There was no retcon for Legion. They harmed people before and showed no guilt over it. Originally they planned on killing someone (check their addon). All that was already in their story before the Rift was added and they killed the guy who worked because he found them. Also no, Legion was not tortured to kill in the Entity realm. Canonwise the devs said if the killer body is heavily damage, it means the killer didn't want to kill first time. Killer with no damage enjoy what they are doing.
This is all just heavily innacurate. Legion’s entire makeup was retconned. Originally Frank was the instigator for one, but much more importantly, the death at the store was throughly unplanned and a snap judgement, rather than a not necessarily even fatal wound snap decision and then a choice to kill. Susie’s refusal to kill the guy was retconned, so was Joey and Julie’s hesitation/difficulty with it, and the entire way that event unfolded, as well as their reaction afterwards (panic in OG vs weirdass celebrating in retcon). In OG, the only crimes they’re noted as doing before the store are bullying, vandalizing, and theft. I’m aware of addons, but in case /you/ didn’t know, most addons are not meant to be part of the canon continuum. Since devs are heavily into AU stuff, a lot of character outfits are like, alternate world versions of the same person, which I think is kinda silly for the world of DbD, but is nevertheless their intended purpose. None of their OG set indicates anything beyond Frank’s backstory pragraph from Darkness Among Us. I know my stuff, I’ve spent copious amounts of time on it. If you want to include extra lore stuff or archives or even cosmetic details as fkn wild as that is considering they won’t even match up with each other, go for it by all means & have fun, but u ain’t the characterization police & I ain’t gonna be bothering answering another if you still wish to be irritated by the way I think of 4 video game characters with almost no established characterization. In OG, instead of being serial killer fanboys, they’re just kinda shitty rowdy punk kids. They didn’t want to or intend to murder, and even Frank’s initial act of violence is described as something unusual for him, and freaks the other 3 out. And kinda himself. I ain’t like, gonna say they were nice, they bullied people for fun, they were asshoels. But that’s a goddamn far cry from the kinds of people who would set fire to a movie theater with people in it or instigate car crashes for fun. And the latter hardly deserves to be tortured and body horror shoved into one agonizing body, let alone the former. Also, that’s not really true w the devs either. They said like 2 years ago that’s usually the case, re: torture. Not every single time. Sure, scars and physical damage are usually the indicator, but that’s not the only way to torture or terrify someone into submission by a loooong shot. It’s fair to base your headcanons around that, & you can leap to ‘any undamaged killer enjoys their murdering’ but it’s not the ironclad word of god, I ain’t fkn gonna go on it every time & am thoroughly justified in that. Also the fact you could possibly read the Legion Rift retcons & Darkness Among Us & not notice any of the retcons is almost worrying to me, so stay safe bro.
