ebird’s apps drive me up the wall
#‘we’ve made birding accessible!’ if you don’t download a million packs that take up space on your phone the apps don’t work#if someone sees a bird that the app hasn’t downloaded you don’t get to see it and confirm your ID#if you’ve been birding since you were a kid and can’t recall what location and date you saw each bird at you can’t make a proper life list#merlin is good for on the spot bird call ID but i personally find it impossible to use and the idea that it’s always 100% accurate… Lol#true accessible birding should reach out to birders of all experience levels and not force you to download (or buy like the sibley app)#a million different bullshit things#ebird’s rare bird alerts are nice but they’re very inaccessible for new birders because they don’t explain#why something may be rare in one county but not another (for example)#also people rating perfectly IDable photos with one star??? fuck off they’re gonna post Nothing next time#anyway. nobody except me cares about this
