So, until Kresley releases the next book, which I assume will be m/f (FURIE AND KRISTOFF PLSTHX tho I will accept Kosmina and Heath if that's to be... a thing, because Lothaire and Lachlain should be in-laws), my IAD heroine ranking goes like:

Neomi Laress, Dark Needs at Night's Edge. For all the reasons mentioned before. She's feminine and nurturing and soft, while also being unabashedly sexual and a bit vampy. She's clever but also deeply bird-brained at times--gets re-embodied, has unprotected sex with Conrad like 5x a day for a week, and THEN asks Mariketa if she can get pregnant. God bless. My queen.

Elizabeth Peirce, Lothaire. Just. A fucking goddess of a girl, and someone people would HATE today; a subversion of NLOG who knows her own worth the entire time. Tough as nails, never gives up, and is still deeply vulnerable. The scene where Ellie like, bursts into tears after this INSANE sexual encounter because she realizes she's going to die anyway? My baaaaby. And she wins everything in the end and has Lothaire's metaphorical balls in her front coat pocket. Incredible.

Mariketa the Awaited/Awakened, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night. Still a fucking forever girl. Has unlimited power; is also a cheerleader and FOR SURE wears that uniform in the bedroom. Her post-book cameos are probably my favorites because it's largely her getting into mortal peril while Bowen has a heart attack, or Bowen's relatives asking her for spells and her refusing them a family discount.

Lucia the Huntress, Pleasure of a Dark Prince. I love a cold as ice girl who has to deal with FEEEEEELINGS, and Lucia is that. Calm, cool, and collected until she is most definitely not, reluctantly unable to resist Garreth worming his way into her heart.

Sabine, Queen of Illusions, Kiss of a Demon King. A complicated, controversial, absolute BITCH of a heroine which is why I love her. The rare true villainess heroine, and honestly still pretty bad at the end of her book. Also? A true brat. Her having a meltdown because she's tired and hot and her boobs are sore because Rydstrom keeps at 'em is a highlight of the series.

Kaderin the Coldhearted, No Rest for the Wicked. She rose in the ranks after I re-read her book and realized that it was actually great. Kaderin has the kind of journey heroes usually have. She's super cold, a bit mean, and even flirts with someone else in front of her hero. She also is facing certain death and booty calls Sebastian for mid-air plane sex. I love her.

Chloe Todd, MacRieve. Chloe is such a perfect girl--snarky yet innocent, vulnerable yet tough, deserving a lot better than MacRieve and his ISSUES, but also seeing like... the potential in their relationship. She's such a fucking good person, and her like capacity for forgiveness without just... letting go of bad behavior, is great.

Emmaline Troy, A Hunger Like No Other. I remain an Emma defender to the death, and her attempts to baby trap Lachlain in later books only make me like her more. Vampire queen of the werewolves who needs her nails done!!!

Josie, Sweet Ruin. ONE OF THE CRAZIEST BITCHES I'VE EVER READ ABOUT. Gets torture-edged for hours??? Days??? Responds with "I like you so much". Queen. Icon. Legend. Broke Rune down like a motherfucker.

Regin the Radiant, Dreams of a Dark Warrior. Kind of annoying in books leading up to her own, but much easier to understand after. It's all a facade, she's actually very damaged, she has a softer heart than anyone realizes, and she's honestly pretty fucking funny.

Myst the Coveted, The Warlord Wants Forever. We love a VAMP. Myst is allowed to be sexy and problematic and alluring. She needs it to COPE. Also, 10/10 gets caught having rough sex outdoors by her sisters and her first instinct is to cover Nikolai's giant dick so that they don't get any ideas.

Daniela the Ice Maiden, Untouchable. I stan sexy Elsa. The fact that this girl had an icicle up her vag in an effort to make sex work with her hot vampire guy... an icon.

Holly Ashwin, Dark Desires After Dusk. A math professor who goes on a roadtrip with a hot demon and makes him jealous by flirting with other hot demons at a bar. Also didn't even have to be told to use the demon horns to steer his head to where it needed to go. We love a nerd.

Melanthe, Queen of Persuasion, Dark Skye. Met a virgin God warrior and ruined his life. Is unashamed about her sexual history AND a fun, trustworthy sister. Was okay with having sex with Thronos for the first time through a weird sheet thing. Respects cultural traditions of angel demons, we respect it.

Kereny Codrina, Munro. I actually love that Kereny basically exists to dunk on Munro for much of their book. I also loved her "BITCHES, RIGHT?" girl talk with Ellie and the fact that she made out with Munro in front of a man she'd just married.

Lila Barbot, Wicked Abyss. I liked Lila a lot. Turned the tables on Sian, didn't put up with any of his bullshit, and ultimately? Turned out to be a monster-fucker. good for her.

Bettina, Shadow's Claim. I actually am a Bettina defender, though she admittedly was a bit of an idiot at points. Like, my dude, this man is so fucking hot, don't waste a good thing. But still, I loved her being a horny princess classic who designs weapons.

Carrow the Incarcerated, Demon from the Dark. I liked Carrow. I liked the kid she chose to be a stepmom to and her entire "finding motherhood" arc less, but it was solid. Still, her teaching a Tarzan-esque vampire/demon guy to bathe was real cool.

Would you rank the IAD heroines?

I mean, I've only gotten to know four out of like... 17ish? Not sure, I know there are 2-3 novellas and like 16-17 full length books, but I believe one of those novellas is m/m (sadly it is far down the line because I reeeeeeeally wanna read it).

But thus far, I think my heroine ranking is pretty reflective of the hero rating, and how I'd rank their books. Sometimes I'll really enjoy a hero or heroine and their story is less than idea.

But anyway, on to the ladies.

Neomi Laress, ghost/phantom, Dark Needs at Night's Edge. I absolutely adore Neomi. She may be my favorite romance heroine EVER. Neomi sees a crazy virgin vampire and goes "I can break that pony in right". She does a striptease with the immortal line, "Still not stimulating enough? Maybe Conrad wants to see my panties instead?" in order to PROVE TO HERSELF THAT HE CAN SEE HER LMAO. But she's also soooo sex positive, genuinely. She loves sex, she has no shame about being a burlesque dancer in the past, she takes such joy in not only being pleased but pleasing, and she wants him to have a full life, which, for him, will include sex. So breaking him in is basically charity, except she falls in love. I also love that Neomi became a ghost, basically, because she was so fucking angry that her horrible ex killed her right when she bought her own house that she just wasn't able to leave this earth. I love her, I love her.

Mariketa the Awaited/Awakened, witch, Wicked Deeds on a Winter's Night. Another forever girl, who I love almost as much as Neomi. A woman who got a college cheerleading scholarship and then dropped out of college. Has a hot pink bedroom with pom poms. Is also a witch of immense potential power. I knew I was gone for Mariketa after it was revealed that she brought a vibrator with her to the jungle while on a mystical quest for a time travel key thing, and I'm fairly certain that's when Bowen knew he was gone for Mariketa. When that moron called her the wrong name when he came and she dramatically left him a fuck you note in the mud and ran off to make a point before he stole her away to a private island? My GIRL. I love how blithe and fun Mariketa is. I love that her husband is her "beast familiar" and her parents know this, so her parents know she gets fucked doggy style in the dirt all night at least once a month. Good for Mariketa, I love all this for her.

Emmaline Troy, vampire/valkyrie hybrid, A Hunger Like No Other. A lot of people shit on Emma because she's so timid, but I actually find her to be really fun. Understandably, she's terrified when this giant wolf man takes off with her. She grows into her boldness, her new role as the werewolf queen--she fucking kills the vampire king, for fuck's sake (who is her father!!!). And as problematic as A Hunger Like No Other was... I enjoyed the old school romance style sexual awakening of Emma. It's not what I want taught to kids lmao, but it was a good story. Also, she summons lightning when she comes hard, and I think that's fun.

Kaderin the Coldhearted, valkyrie, No Rest for the Wicked. I like Kaderin a lot, but I don't know that I looove Kaderin. So many people do, I'm sure. She's a total badass. I love that she wears vampire fangs as trophies and then falls in love with one. I relate to her fear of emotional intimacy (maybe too much). I wish she'd been like... a little more accepting of Sebastian's love, but I get that this was the plot, so on, so on. I feel like Emma's rejection of Lachlain and Mariketa's rejection of Bowen felt more... authentic, though? Because Lachlain and Bowen were literal beasts, whereas Sebastian was honestly pretty accommodating. Even if he was a vampire.

Lay’s Lit: is it the first appareance of the traitor?

If you have a stan tw acc, you may have already encountered with threads related to this topic and you know that a lot of poeple now see Lay as the helmet man from the provious MVs of EXO. Yes, the traitor.

But if you don’t... don’t worry, i’ll give my best to sum it up.

Thanks to its imperial aesthetic, some users state that Lit might preceed what’s narrated in MAMA. In the events that take place in Yixing’s mv we can see that the army there is abviously training for a war (or more likely an invasion). If so, that might be the reason why protecting the tree of life turned out to be necessary: the red force, this time in the form of imperial soldiers, was in its way to destroy it. All under Lay’s commands. That’s why people on twitter say he is and always has been evil.

Although I find his betrayal very plausible, I'm not so sure of him being evil since the very beginning. In my opinion, the Lay we have seen in all of EXO’s music videos is not the real legend, but a puppet of the red force.

Let’s see the key points that led me to this:

1. THE EYE.

“ When The skies and the grounds were one legends through there twelve forces nurtured the tree of life. An eye of red forces created the evil which covered the heart of tree of life and the heart slowly grew dry”

This is from Mama’s intro, as you may recognize. The reason I brought this here is because of this scene in Lit:

Yup, that’s an eye. Also, the word “eye” can refer to a person who watch over something or someone. Maybe, a spy? 

2. LAY AS THE ONLY ONE THAT HAS A POWER CLOSELY RELATED TO THE TREE.

Lay’s power is to heal and it has been represented with flowers blooming throughout all of EXO’s storyline. Flourishing is equal to be born. 

With that being said, we can assume both Lay and the tree are/create life. He could have healed the tree, couldn't he? Then, why didn’t he do it?

3. HE LOST A BATTLE.

Lit is a beautifully done cinematic music video. In its intro we can see a Lay that looks quite different from what we perceive of him while the story unfolds. 

You can almost read on his face “How did I lose?”

He knows he has a lot to face now. Alone.

There’s no way for him to go out of that one.

4. THEN, HE WAS HELD CAPTIVE.

Like I said, he wouldn’t be able to fight back. It is impossible for somene whose power is to give life to defeat an entire army by his own. Of course, they were going to take him away. Doing so, they eliminated the possibility of Lay using his power to heal the tree they wanted to destroy.

I don’t think the red force have gone as far as killing him, they also needed him.

5. THE TEA AND THE THERMAL BATH.

Technology plays a big part in EXO’s worldview. Red Force is always trying to mess up with the legends through technology (overdose’s labyrinth, lucky one’s lab, power’s robot, obsession’s clones,etc) but having in mind that this story has a historical context, there’s no room for technology here.

That doesn’t mean that the Red Force didn’t have its ways back then.

There are a couple of very interesting close-up shots in Lit:

The way the tea scene is intertwined with the bath scene made me think about the chances of it being the same water in both cases.

In the way I see it, this how they managed to gain control over him: through a ceremony of some kind.

In the same way the Red Force created X-EXO in Obsession, they made their troy horse out of the legend no one would ever raise doubts.

6. THE MUZZLE (+RED LIGHTS).

If Lay himself decided to walk the evil path and be a villain, why is he wearing something that restrict him from talking? Someone must not want him to be free or to tell what he knows.

Another thing I’d like to point out is the similarity of this footage (the lightning, especially the red laser in Lay’s face) with Obsession.

Whether it is inside his own mind or in a physical placement, the real Lay is still a hostage meanwhile his evil counterpart is fighting alongside the one who are controlling him.

These are only theories and opinions of my own, I might be completely wrong. But... Kai’s debut MV revolved around EXO’s worldview and later on Baekhyun (our spoiler king) told us that his future work would continue it too, so our Yixing might have been the first one to link his solo work to the main plot. Only SM know.

Let’s hope they give us more content in the following months.

-          Invokes the protection and power of his mother, Eos, the primordial dawn goddess. Memnon has access to her chariot, which is pulled by two horses, Firebright and Daybright. Setting a trail of fire and sparks, he charges towards the enemy, leaving chaos in his wake.

-          Because Memnon prefers single combat and dueling, this works as a Single Target Noble Phantasm. The burn, however, is applied to all targets.

Penthesilea: Ah, the Queen of the Amazons. It was a great honor to serve alongside her. Her prowess in battle is like none I’d ever seen. She’s really amazing. You know, she used to wear a decorated helmet that obscured her face… well, when it came off in the middle of combat, Achilles stopped what he was doing and just stood there! She nearly took off his head! Can you imagine, the great Achean, standing there looking like…? [clears throat] I mean, of course, I’m glad I got to witness such a glorious exchange. A battle between two warriors of that caliber is a rare thing.

Hektor: Hektor. It is a shame that we never met in life! I’m honored to be fight alongside – oh, no thank you. I don’t smoke.

Paris: … I’m a bit worried. They say Apollo is a great god, but this is…

Artemis: Ah, the goddess of the moon! My mother spoke of you often. I am truly blessed to meet you. Strangely… you remind me of… Oh, never mind.

Achilles: Yes, I remember him quite well. I don’t have any grudges. Zeus blessed our battle, and it was an exhilarating fight. I’m honored to have been able to cross blades with someone like him. Though… I do wonder if it’s alright to speak to him. I suppose, in his position, it’s possible… Perhaps if I offered to duel him once again, he would forgive me! Yes, I shall do that.

Queen of Sheba: I have traveled through many lands, but there is something about you that is familiar. Please tell me more about your kingdom – I would like to hear of it, even though we were not alive in the same era. Hmm? What do you mean, knowledge costs extra? Is this some kind of border tax?

Iskandar: You want to hear about Okeanos? I’m happy to tell you - but I’m afraid it’s not very exciting. I was raised there, you see, so a lot of my stories involve me doing chores and... oh? You still want to know? Very well.

Scheherazade: A woman who collects stories. I wonder... Hmm? Oh, it’s nothing. Never mind.

Nordic Heroes: They seem to be looking at me. I wonder – do they know something about me that I don’t? Is there something on my face?”

The story goes that after Hektor’s death, King Priam of Troy summoned an army from a distant land. Alongside the Queen of the Amazons, Penthesilea, Memnon sailed to Troy from Aethiopia, to defend the besieged city from the wrath of Achilles.

Profile Three / Bond Two: “A lost hero, you say…? Well, it can’t be helped. “

Where Hektor was Achilles’s great enemy, it’s more accurate to say that Memnon was his rival. Memnon was also the son of a goddess, and had many powers that made him equal Achilles in combat. The Greeks feared him and his army. However…

Profile Four / Bond Three: “Yes, my mother is the goddess of the dawn. I even had relatives in the royal family at Troy, but I was raised by the Hesperides on the shores of Okeanos. Yes, it’s a real place. I’m serious. Perhaps one day, you will be able to reach it.”

Zeus was impressed by Achilles’s strength, but also favored Memnon. It is said that he blessed their battle, making them tireless, and the god of the forge, Hephaestus, had also given both of the heroes indestructible armor.

The written text of this story is lost, except for all but a few sentence fragments. The glorious final battle of Troy faded into myth, and then nothingness. Though many writers carried on describing Memnon’s legacy and fame, his shining hour was eclipsed by time.

Profile Five / Bond Four: “I was given many blessings from the gods. I would not say I have any regrets about how I lived my life. After all, if there is even one person who remembers that I lived…”

After the death of Achilles’s most beloved partner, Patroclus, the hero was inconsolable, and it seemed that he would lose the will to fight. However, Antilochos - the youth who cared for his horses and occasionally helped Achilles steer his chariot in combat - cheered him up and convinced him to continue living. Later, during a battle, Memnon struck Antilochos down, forcing the hero of the Acheans to grieve yet another loved one.

Profile Six / Bond Five: “I would like to tell you a story. It’s a great tale about a man who travels the world from end to end. Would you care for tea? It’s a bit long, so we may be here for awhile.”

Not long after Memnon’s death, the Trojan War ended, and a new tale began. It’s said that his mother wept inconsolably at her son’s death, and so Zeus granted Memnon immortality.

The ancient world of Northern Africa was said to have many statues of Memnon, marking the places where he had stayed or traveled to. These too are now lost.

However, despite all odds, the enduring soul of Memnon remains alive in human memory. It is for this reason that he can be called from the Throne of Heroes.

Personal Notes:

He’s BAAAQ with a single target buster because I wanted him to stand out from other Five Star Riders, basically, and the weird mechanic thing with burns is just something I think would be Neat because again I have no clue how a lot of the funky mini-mechanical technic-stuff works in FGO even after a year of playing. But like, if Space Ishtar can change her NP Card-type, then Memnon can have a single target NP that de-buffs all enemies.

So basically, he’s one of Penthesilea’s allies/an ally of Troy. He and Penth terrify the Greeks, at first Achilles is distracted by the hot new Amazon and his cute new rebound boy (I’m not a fan of Antilochos just like, on principle because this is a Patrolcus stanning household, but oh well), but then he eventually gets his act together and while he defeats Penth, Memnon winds up killing Antilochos. This leads Achilles to going on another rampage, and slays Memnon in the process. And after this, Paris (a known fool and idiot) finally asks Apollo for help in killing Achilles, leading to the end of the Trojan war.

There seems to be sources about Memnon that show he was well-known in the ancient world as a mythological figure (writers such as Herodotus reference him in their works/tales about Africa and he was probably memorialized in statues in various temples) but the primary text (the lost epic detailing the end of the Trojan War: Aethiopis) is basically gone. Which is a shame, because he’s a fascinating character - a true foil to Achilles in almost every way.

So basically, IT’S FREE REAL ESTATE.

Obviously because I’ve been deep in Achilles Loving Hell, I’ve been deep-diving into the lore, and even though there isn’t a lot to go on, the things I do find are rich and juicy. I imagine Memnon to be a bit older and wiser than Achilles (probably has a beard tbh, but not like a bushy beard) and a bit more relaxed. The guy was raised by nymphs and was basically nice to everyone, so it seemed. Memnon is not the type to go berserk in combat, but he also doesn’t hold back when it comes to beating your ass. There’s a sweet spot between Hektor “I Suppress All Emotions and Only Strategize” style of fighting and Achilles “I Am Strong and Fast and Have a Lot of Feelings so Fuck You” style of fighting, and Memnon is probably riiiight in there, crunching on some golden apples that his mom gave him for a snack.

(There’s also apparently a weird and funky piece of very obscure and maybe fake lore which states that Memnon might related by blood to Thor, which idk how true that is but I think it’d be hilarious to include.)

Ok, here’s the thing though… announcing that you love someone FOR THE FIRST TIME should be a private thing, not posted for the world to see (in my opinion).

So here’s the thing, at this point the audience doesn’t know this yet, but as I am rewatching this, I know what’s going on and Ricky at this point has no frame of reference where “love” works. He thinks that his parents are still in love (or at least he hopes), but his mom has been going away for long periods of time, he knows that their marriage isn’t doing too hot, and he is in the middle of it. Of course he couldn’t say it.

“It was a BREAK it wasn’t a break UP.” “ I’m sorry Ricky, but it’s a break UP now.”

Ok so like, I love Courtney and she gets better as the season goes on but the “I’m dismantling the patriarchy this year, and I’m not afraid to start with you,” was just,,, I don’t know I guess it just reminds me of the people that I went to high school/worked with that were all talk and buzzwords and no actual sustenance

The “interviews” where Nini’s like: “everything is great” and Ricky is like; “everything is terrible, love is dead” is hilarious and I love it

Also why does nobody talk about how what Ricky’s mom is doing is kind of really shitty? Like she left her child for weeks at a time, without explaining what was going on?

“I’m actually bummed that we don’t have any competition here” - also a very realistic line but the cockiness needs to go (I’m guessing it might be a major point in his redemption. He’s definitely used to getting what he wants all the time, so it would be good to see him start to accept that that’s just not how life works)

Also, who is the guy with the grey/white hair? He’s one of my favourites.

Also how do they think that Gina should be Gabriella? She’s definitely more of a Sharpay, and if they want to go with a boy for Sharpay (we love Seb) then she should at least be Ryan (why not genderbend the both of them?). She should be someone who is super out there and has lots of musical numbers so she can dance and show off her talent and personality, Gabriella just isn’t that kind of character.

Also miss Jenn’s type casting is really not my thing (you look like a Taylor, you’re a Chad, etc. Should they not just choose who they want to audition for and then be put where they actually fit?)

Okay so here’s my thoughts about Ricky calling the break. His mom has been away for a long time (because of the whole divorce thing) so in his mind, being far away from each other means that the love thing will kind of be messed up and also like his mom texts him right before and definitely reminds him.

It also gives us sight into what Ricky thinks will happen with his parents. He thinks as soon as his mom comes home for good that it will all be fine with his parents, and that’s not what happens (as we know from episode 4). This is also mirrored in Ricky and Nini’s relationship.

Also long distance for teenagers? (grade 10s going into grade 11 at that point) like that isn’t something they’ve ever been told could work

I’m not saying that Nini’s reaction isn’t valid, I’m just trying to explain what I think is going on with Ricky

Although Nini is the only person Ricky goes to for advice, so shouldn’t she kind of be aware of these issues? Although I guess Ricky’s not even very aware of what’s going on at this point either

“Troy would have arrived on time” incorrect - many people have mentioned this but like, Troy was always late. It’s a major plot point in all of the movies.

EJ’s “You got this babe,” is what caused Miss Jen to spill on the light thing and then made the lights go out → metaphor? EJ is actually stifling Nini by being so “supportive” (by accident)

“I’m not thrown,” queen! Literally 1. Boyfriend tells her he loves her causing slightly traumatic flashback 2. Ex boyfriend runs in to auditions for something he’s said he hates and 3. Lights get messed. We stan. Not thrown, what a legend. (and then proceeds to sing and face her dream fears)

im? willing to take it a step further too and say that the Tea is that sarah loses at ftc to cirie and andrea at the VERY least (id reach for aubry beating her as well but im Tired), which means, lil miss sarah here, would have to go to the end with brad/tai/troy (or michaela ig) in order to win......... so are you gonna tell me youre.....gonna stan..... for sarah...and act impressed by her game...when the only people her nobody ass can beat is second chance rejects, somebody who has been manipulated by others to ruin his own game, and a girl that the edit has shown to rub her tribe mates the wrong way?

a sarah win would literally be so unsatisfying and would leave such a bad taste in my mouth (not like this season hasnt done that already, but you know what i mean), but if u wanna try to jump on board the zzzz sarah hype train so you dont completely hate the outcome of this season...Go For It

Survivor 34: Finale

[S] Hey, they did invite Varner! [A] I'm not surprised that they invited Varner. That scenario will probably be a good half of the reunion.

[S] "For the first time ever, we brought back 20 of Survivor's biggest game changers." They may not have had 20 players, but the original all-star was a much better group of game changers.

[S] Would people actually vote for Brad to win? Does "do you need the million" play into voting in an all-star season? [A] People would certainly vote for Brad. He'll give a sob story about his wife. And the "do they need the million" never works in the same way that no one ever wins because they "need it the most."

[A] Did Jeff just say Cirie is a "perennial fan favorite"? Who the hell is a hardcore Cirie stan? SHE DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

[S] "In her four seasons, Cerie has done basically nothing." - Jeff Probst, essentially

[S] Sarah's explanation still makes no sense. Why vote Michaela, not Cirie? [A] Sarah didn't vote Cirie because doing so would result in Cirie not giving Sarah her vote. She can explain away voting out Michaela in a way that Michaela may still respect her; Cirie would not only not vote her, she would try to poison the jury.

[S] God I hate Sarah. Get off your fucking high horse. Tai is a bad person because he was going to stab you in the back despite your "generosity?" FUCKING HYPOCRITE!

[A] You all need to fucking back off of Tai. Ya'll are screaming at him for doing the same shit you do on a daily basis. I hope he uses an idol and it gets Sarah or Cirie out.

[A] Tai, don't tell Sarah. That will not get you back in her good graces. She and Cirie will just take you out.

[S] I want Culpepper or Tai to win. Would be fine with Aubry or Troy. Culpepper and Troy have not ever pretended to be anything. Tai is lovable. Aubry is a good game player and has the added bonus of not being Sarah. [A] I always want Tai to win, but acknowledge that he is horrible at this game - he's just naive and lovable. Culpepper winning I'd be fine with - I just don't want him to make final three because his final speech would be all about Monica *gag*. Aubry or Troyzan winning would be an underdog victory in that I constantly forget they're still here and can't name a single major thing they have done all season. Sarah is just a bitch and Cirie is useless.

[S] So theoretically Tai can play both idols, Troy can play his idol, and Sarah has the legacy advantage. Tai can play kingmaker where there is only one person who CAN go home.

[A] Brad, why would you pick Sarah? If you picked Tai and Troyzan, you all could have chatted and realized you could supremely dominate this game.

[S] Wow, Brad. Bad strategy. The angry bully is what made Tai flip last time. This play isn't gonna work. [A] When will Brad realize that making demands and trying to put someone on a leash is not the way to win allies?

[A] Tai, don't do it. Keep your idols. Think about the fact that he just picked Sarah over you for reward. He is using you. He is bullying you.

[A] The fact that Brad wants to make a fool of Tai - not get him out because he's a threat - makes me retract my previous statement about being okay with him winning.

[S] I think this tribal ends with Cirie HAVING to go home.

[S] Poor Tai...he's right though, he does need to toughen up. [A] Tai crying is killing me. I just want to hug him through the screen.

[S] So did he NOT give Brad his idol?

[A] Not going to lie, I'm loving this new final tribal format. Saves me from Brad constantly talking about Monica. [S] I don't like this final tribal format. The players should be advocating for themselves, not other players advocating for them.

[S] I don't understand Michaela's question about what Brad knows about her. How was Brad SUPPOSED to answer that? [A] Michaela's question to Brad was really just pointing out that Brad didn't make personal connections/he didn't know anything substantial about the other contestants.

[S] I am absolutely sad that Debbie is on the jury. Stop talking. [A] Did Debbie just say she's Brad's lieutenant? So we're just ignoring her crazy outbursts about Brad being a dictator? [S] Debbie, you are literally making me want Brad to lose. Also, didn't Debbie hate Brad?

[S] Michaela is so annoying. Sarah is so annoying. Not surprised they are on the same side.

[A] Troyzan, you sitting in the final doesn't mean you played well. People take dead-weight/patsies all the time. That being said, I feel bad for you because you probably did play well, but because you weren't agro-aggressive, newer contestants won't appreciate your game play.

[S] It won't happen, but at this point I want Troy to win.

[A] Hold up. Is Brad wearing a burlap sack?

[A] Also, all of Brad's mannerisms when responding to Tai make me want to punch him. He keeps treating him like a child.

[A] Hailey: "Brad, did you just say you used condescension as a strategy to control..." ME: "YES THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE SAID AND DID."

[A] So Debbie legit just complimented Brad's dictator mentality. Bitch is crazy.

[A] He won't get a single vote, but I'd love it if Troyzan just won because right now it's either rewarding a bully or rewarding a high-horse riding liar.

[S] I think Sarah will win. What a shit season.

[A] I've said it before and I'll say it again because this final tribal once again proves it: they need to go back to a final two format.

[S] Culpepper with mustache but no beard seems weird. [A] Brad looked better in the burlap sack.

[A] Zeke is more excited than Sarah that Sarah won.

[S] Ahhhh Tai and Brad. Adorbs.

[A] C'mon, Jeff. Don't rub it in that Culpepper made a mistake.

[A] That's seriously the rule for a tie? That's kind of amazing.

[A] Man, I wish Troyzan would have won.

[S] Yea I don't miss Sandra.

Next season: Heroes vs. Healers vs. Hustlers: [S] Why do the seasons ALWAYS have to have a gimmick? Especially tribes based on a common trait. The entire reason Survivor is interesting is because it's a bunch of different people forced to interact. [A] Seriously? Stahp with the gimmicks. Just let it be two random tribes. Also, please leave Fiji.

[S] "Three very different ways of life." Literally none of them are mutually exclusive.

It was so hot and humid outside just now when I went to get the newspaper (yes, we still have it delivered) that it felt like I was walking into a sauna. I hope it rains to cut the humidity down. We certainly need the water as our gardens are wilting. It's been so dry that there's a burn ban in effect. I couldn't make a fire in the fire pit up at the cottage, much to my disappointment. The pleasure of sitting around a fire must be a primitive thing hard wired since we first were able to make fire.

Detective Comics #1009 – Peter J. Tomasi (writer) Christian Duce (art) Luis Guerrero (colours) Rob Leigh (letters). A new story starts here and it's a doozy. Deadshot is the bad guy and he might have been contracted to kill Bruce Wayne. The next issue can't hit the racks fast enough for me.

Event Leviathan #2 – Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Alex Maleev (art) Josh Reed (letters). I'm late to this because I had to wait on reorders. I think the identity of who Leviathan is gets revealed this issue. I'm glad it didn't take the team of the world's greatest detectives too long to figure it out.

Event Leviathan #3 – Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Alex Maleev (art) Josh Reed (letters). Psyche! Leviathan isn't who the detectives suspected it was last issue. It's still a mystery and the real deal does show up this issue. You may recall that Amanda Waller has been MIA, well not anymore. She's a big part of this thing. This story has fans talking and that's always fun.

The Amazing Spider-Man #27 – Nick Spencer (writer) Kev Walker (pencils) John Dell (inks) Laura Martin (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). The new Syndicate has been hired to capture Boomerang and Spidey is forced to help his roommate Fred/Boomerang. Things don't turn out so well for the good guys. The last page has a shocking surprise that harkens back to the good old days of Stan Lee.

Powers of X #2 – Jonathan Hickman (writer) R.B. Silva (art) R.B. Silva & Adriano Di Benedetto (inks) Marte Gracia (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). The X in the title also represents the Roman numeral for ten. The scope of this issue is huge. We go from year zero of the X-Men to year 1000 as the mutants try to find a way to survive. There's not a lot of action but a heck of a lot of planning and strategising. I think our patience will be rewarded when Jonathan Hickman starts cooking with gas.

Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man #10 – Tom Taylor (writer) Ken Lashley (art pages 1 – 14, thumbnails pages 15 – 17) Scott Hanna (inks pages 15 – 17) Luca Maresca (art pages 18 – 20) Nolan Woodard (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). The team-up with Hobie Brown, the good guy Prowler, ends with a cameo from Iron Man. I like bad guy makes good stories.

Catwoman #14 – Ram V (writer) Mirka Andolfo (art) Arif Prianto (colours) Saida Temofonte (letters). Hermosa Heat part 1. It's a new story with a new writer. There's a bounty on Catwoman and she going to find out who put it out there. I'm not a fan of the new cut-outs on her cat suit. I think it's just to show more titillating skin for the fanboys and that's creepy. The panels with the side boobs is what makes me think that.

Ironheart #9 – Eve L. Ewing (writer) Luciano Vecchio (art) Geoffo (layouts) Matt Milla (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Riri goes to Wakanda in search of the mystical Wellspring of Power. She and Shuri meet for the first time and the young women's personalities clash like oil and water. Fortunately, a crisis bonds them later. A new character joins the story on the last page and she's related to someone that Ironheart fought against back in Chicago. I want to learn more about Silhouette.

Silver Surfer Black #3 – Donny Cates (writer) Tradd Moore (art) Dave Stewart (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). The planet Ego helps Norrin Radd to recover from his battle with Knull and it's a good thing because then the Silver Surfer can return the favour and cure Ego of a type of cancer. The surprise is what's causing the cancer. This weird story just got a lot weirder.

Loki #2 – Daniel Kibblesmith (writer) Oscar Bazaldua (art) David Curiel (colours) VC's Clayton Cowles (letters). Loki visits Tony Stark to ask to join the Avengers. 'Tis to laugh, as they say. This issue ends in a most unlikely place and I can't wait to find out what happens next.

Miles Morales: Spider-Man #9 – Saladin Ahmed (writer) Javier Garron (art) David Curiel (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Is it time for Miles to be rescued from his kidnappers? Yes it is. His dad Jeff and his uncle Aaron team up to save Miles. Aaron getting a new Prowler suit might mean trouble in the future. I wonder how long Miles's mysterious kidnappers are going to stay a mystery?

Batman Universe #2 – Brian Michael Bendis (writer) Nick Derington (art) Dave Stewart (colours) Josh Reed (letters). I think Brian Bendis is using this book to play with all the heroes and villains in the DCU. Batman teams up with Green Arrow briefly and goes to Gorilla City. By the end of the issue he's on another planet and I don't know if the Thanagarians are going to welcome him nicely or not. Oh, and we find out who the big bad is. I groaned.

Punisher Kill Krew #1 – Gerry Duggan (writer) Juan Ferreyra (art) VC's Cory Petit (letters). This is what I love about comic books. You can tell whatever far fetched story you want and have it beautifully illustrated. This is a spin off from War of the Realms where Frank Castle continues his war hunting down a frost giant named Kasyckla. But how is he supposed to get to Jotunheim? Wouldja believe via chariot pulled by one of Thor's goats? I wonder who is going to be in his Krew?

Once & Future #1 – Kieron Gillen (writer) Dan Mora (art) Tamra Bonvillain (colours) Ed Dukeshire (letters). I don't know why people are speculating on this book but it seems to be the hot buy of the week. This new 6-issue mini is a twist on the Arthurian legend with it not being clear whether Arthur is a good guy or a bad guy. There's a group of people wanting to resurrect the dead king to make Britain great again. This faction will kill to get their way. Duncan gets roped by his grandmother Bridgette into stopping this group of bad guys. I like the feisty Bridgette so I will keep reading this to see what else she and Duncan get up to. It's jolly good fun.

Gwenpool Strikes Back #1 – Leah Williams (writer) David Baldeon (art) Jesus Aburtov (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). I never got into this fourth wall breaking comic book character before but I read a story that she was in recently and liked how fun she was. This issue is a great introduction to this whacky character and you needn't have read any of her previous appearances to get what's going on. You will get an extra kick out of Gwenpool if you're a dyed in the wool Marvel Maniac like me though. The rest of this 5-issue mini is going on to my “must read” list.

Age of Conan Valeria #1 – Meredith Finch (writer) Aneke (art) Andy Troy (colours) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). I was not impressed with Age of Conan Bêlit because I liked the book version of Bêlit more than the comic book version. Valeria is another matter however. She fought alongside Conan in “Red Nails” my all time favourite Conan comic book story. The way Barry Smith drew her made me fall in love with her. This origin story has Valeria hunting down her brother's killer and even though she looks like Betty Cooper with a sword, I like this enough to find out if she succeeds in her quest.

Silver Surfer The Prodigal Son #1 – Peter David (writer) Francesco Manna (art) Espen Grundetjern (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Now that the Fantastic Four have gotten him off Earth, Prah'd'ghul's adventures take him into space. Where there's space, there glides the Silver Surfer. This story flashes back to when the Silver Surfer was the herald of Galactus. In this issue he's just an Uber for Prah'd'ghul.

Fantastic Four #13 – Dan Slott (writer) Sean Izaakse (art) Marcio Menyz (colours) VC's Joe Caramagna (letters). The conclusion of the Thing versus the Hulk fight. I won't tell you who the winner is but I will tell you that the biggest loser is the Puppet Master. You won't like him when he's angry, and the Puppet Master made the Hulk extremely angry.

Conan the Barbarian Exodus #1 – Esad Ribic (writer & art) VC's Travis Lanham (letters). This was an easy job for VC's Travis Lanham. There are no captions or dialogue other than a few Hyborian Age word balloons. This is the story of a young Conan wandering the land and surviving against man and beast. It won't take long to “read” but I spent a lot of time just taking in the beautiful artistry. Any time Esad Ribic draws a comic book it's worth picking up.

Doctor Strange #17 – Mark Waid (writer) Barry Kitson (pencils) Scott Koblish (inks) Brian Reber (colours) VC's Cory Petit (letters). Herald Supreme part 6 is the conclusion to Stephen Strange's adventure with Galactus. This is a classic “deal with the devil” story when Mephisto enters the picture. Oh my god what a corny ending. Mark Waid also writes History of the Marvel Universe and he includes the whole thing right here. I did not finish the first issue of that chronicle and I am taking this opportunity to stop reading this title as well just because it got too maudlin.

Symbiote Spider-Man #5 – Peter David (writer) Greg Land (pencils) Jay Leisten (inks) Frank D'Armata (colours) VC's Joe Sabino (letters). Here's another weak ending. There was never a doubt that Spider-Man and the Black Cat would win against Mysterio but boy was it ever done in a mundane way. I will think twice about reading this title the next time this book hits the racks.
