yeah well I think you guys use fanfic as a stand in for shallow low stakes writing and immature/inexperienced writers because it's an easy short hand to make fun of people, even though it ultimately hurts the point you're making.

blindly using the idea of Tropes as a stand in for not being able to write dark or interesting or complex characters and stories is just so baseline ridiculous. not every fanfic trope is a coffee shop au and not every published novel is from stephen king.

the entire point of fanfic "tropes" is to make it Easier to find the kind of story you're looking for, if you can't find dark or high stakes fanfic that is literally a skill issue

Another Undertale anti-skeleharem idea thanks to my mind poorly attempting to figure out dialogue for my tik tok vids.

So, something I've seen fluctuating with popularity in the skeleharem fics is the isekai into Undertale trope. So, imagine that two friends, one completely familiar with Undertale and especially the skeleharem fandom (though he'll be attracted to a different group in the fic), and one with very little knowledge about the game thanks to the friend, get transmigrated to Undertale.

This is obviously a dream come true for Friend while OC is just there for the ride. As they get settled, some things happen that make Friend realize that maybe they're not in the best situation while OC is struggling to understand the dangers.

First, they're both Mages. Which was cool; until Friend realized ABO Dynamics apply for Mages and Monsters, and not the flexible kind he'd prefer. He's quick to find out their alignments; Friend's being Alpha (a relief to him), and OC's being Omega (something Friend immediately panicked over while she watched with confusion).

Second, they live in a monster neighborhood. Preferable, since there were a lot of hate crimes being committed against Mages as much as against Monsters. However, one of their neighbors are the skeletons. Which wouldn't be so bad, if Friend hadn't been given a dose of reality that a good portion had darker morals and were really manipulative. Granted, he had no idea if any of them had changed or were different from their depictions, but he didn't want to risk catching their attention regardless. Which is why, when he kept catching a few of them talking or interacting with OC, he always freaked and was protective and stuff. Making her confused and the skeletons feel all types of ways.

Third, and perhaps the worst, is that most of the skeletons have a couple girlfriends. This wouldn't really be a problem, if Friend didn't realize that they're the anti-harem toxic type girlfriends. And when he does, he tries to warn OC to stay away from the guys, but she doesn't understand why. Mainly because she's currently not interested and because the skeletons are approaching her, not the other way around.

Don't worry. OC wouldn't be a meek or shy or defenseless type despite being an Omega. She's just kinda blind to the dangers that a seasoned fan of Undertale would be familiar with. Friend would probably end up with a different character because although he read a bunch of skeleharem, he also felt more attracted to Grillby, Mettaton, and Napstablook. So he's more likely to end up with one of them if not all of them.

You know those ABO AU fics where Jason and the Bats are either still at odds, or they've reconciled to a certain degree but still hold each other at arms length? But then they unwittingly stumble across the fact that Jason is an Omega, and basically kidnap him back home and suddenly everything is sunshine and daisies?

I need like, an entire rec of fics where that very adamantly does not happen.

I need fics where Jason is unable to reconcile their sudden acceptance with the sorry state of their relationship before they found out, and their absolute lack of effort to fix it beforehand.

But most importantly, I need fics where he simply cannot stomach to have Bruce at his throat after he literally cut it open.

Or whatever.

The Selection au, Coryo is the prince who's father dies suddenly. His grandmother is queen regent until Coriolanus is married and in order to find a partner they host a selection (If you've never read that series, basically they gather a bunch of girls from different background to do a bachelor style thing to marry a prince, it is not a great book series but I love it as a concept for fics so tbh 6/10 even though it has admittedly been awhile since I read it)

Sejanus is in love with his best friend Marcus, but is pushed by both his family and Marcus to sign up for the selection as a way to potentially help his family gain power (mostly pressured by his dad, but I think Marcus sees it as a chance for Sejanus to really do something, like he's always wanted) He's chosen and sent away to live in the palace with 23 other contenders (probably the other mentors + Lucy gray but I might pick through that later)
