{so i wasn’t familiar with this song, so I played it on YouTube but I i hope it’s okay AND okay so moving on}

This gave me college AU vibes in the autumn with the leaves falling around as a sign of the new year. So you’re pretty much looking for all your classes and whatnot and you make friends with Seungkwan along the way who’s honestly just so thrilled to have a new friend and he pretty much makes you swear to him y’all will be best friends forever (okay why not? Insert 🤷🏻‍♀️ emoji )

Fast forward to a few weeks and you need a quiet place to do homework bc the library is CROWDED with people, and you find the art room unlocked. You pass by it everyday and you’ve even gone in there with Seungkwan to return something to his friend, but anyways. You go in and make a beeline for the closest table and pull out your notes and your homework, wondering how the heck you forgot your headphones on your bed. So you you talk quietly amongst yourself, memorizing formulas and pronouncing words and singing some of your favorite songs and then! You see a hand gently placed over your algeba review sheet and glance up to see Xu Minghao peering at you. You know him from a couple of classes and mutual friends but you’re surprised at how he’s holding out his pair of headphones. “If you’re gonna study in here, please be quiet because I can’t concentrate and I need to beat the deadline for an upcoming show.”

You’re too embarrassed to say or do anything so he just leaves them on top of a book and goes back to doing his work. You attempt to focus and you eventually use them and it’s easier to concentrate and ignore Minghao. You finish before him and leave just as quietly as you came in. It wasn’t until you got home that you remembered he let you borrow them and you promised yourself you’d return them ASAP.

You find him the next day in the same place hunched over a sculpture and you tap his shoulder, apologizing for stealing them, and he managed to smile. You ask him what he’s working on and from there a friendship forms.

Before you know it, you’re hanging out together and watching him make art to pay for his necessities. He complains a lot about his roommate Mingyu who’s always yelling at the TV because of the sports channel so he stays in the art room and how because of Seokmin, they’ve had to change the locks because he kept losing his key. You tell him a lot about Seungkwan’s antics and how he almost got arrested once for disturbing the peace when he got intoxicated and he’s laughing along with your stories, and you can feel the butterflies forming whenever he giggles. And soon you realize you have a crush on the dude after he hangs up after making a prank call to Seungcheol but you attempt to squash it quickly.

That is until he invites you to an art case to see his newest work that he was gonna present to the judges and hopefully auction off. And you naturally invite Seungkwan as your plus one. Minghao doesn’t know why his heart sinks when he sees you two together so he decides to text you about it as casually as possible because you can’t see him and the relief he feels when you tell him it’s so you’d have company is enough for him to know that he has a crush on you too and he’s quick to invite you back to the art room after the show’s over. (Bc it wasn’t his best work, he wasn’t able to sell it so he decided to fix it however he could.)

And when you get to the classroom , you see him painting something without a care in the world, so you decide to scare him by quietly walking behind him, slapping your hands on his shoulders and screaming...to which he jumps and then there’s a blue streak in the middle of the drawing paper, so he paints a line across your face giggling uncontrollably, despite the fact that he has to start over.

He says blue might be his favorite color on you and he offers a small towel so you can wipe it off while he restarts his painting. You watch him brushing confident strokes over it, not even noticing his free hand is creeping towards yours until it’s on top of yours. His gaze doesn’t leave the picture but he asks you if you’d like to go out with him sometime and you stutter out a meek, “yes”.

His response? Flicking the brush over your nose to see the blue color again.

“why are you naked?”

the camping trip was chanyeol’s idea. the refusal to sleep in a tent full of drunk, immature, might-as-well-be-twelve-years-old guys, however, was yours.

jongdae’s solution to this problem was renting out a cabin – followed by chanyeol’s very enthusiastic, “in the woods? hell yes!” – and even you had to agree; spending your weekend in a cabin out in nature didn’t sound that bad. jongdae was glad to hear your approval. he may not have shown it, but he’s been waiting for the day you’d agree to go on a trip with him and his friends.

having had a crush on you for as long as he could remember, jongdae kept looking for reasons to spend more time with you alone because he was hoping that during one of these times, he’d finally muster up enough courage to tell you about his feelings. this trip seemed like the perfect opportunity for that.

and then chanyeol ruined everything by giving him the wrong directions to his bedroom that weekend. jongdae had to admit, though, it was partially his fault – he was the last to arrive and, by the time he did, chanyeol was already drunk and couldn’t tell his left hand from his right.

after having parked his car outside of the woods and spent the next fifteen minutes making his way through the muddy terrain, all jongdae really wanted was a shower before he got ready to join the party in the parlor downstairs. 

the cold stream of the water in the bathroom of his room turned out to be the perfect pre-game and, as soon as he stepped out of the shower, he was more than ready for his first drink. only realizing that he’d forgotten to bring a towel, he walked out of the bathroom to look for one in the closet across the room but then he froze at the sound of a surprised gasp.

“i’m not sure if i want to hear the answer,” your voice met his ears and jongdae nearly threw himself out of the window as you continued, “but why are you naked?”

chuckling uncomfortably, jongdae debated turning around but your voice was coming from behind him and he wasn’t sure if he could survive facing you right now. “it’s a funny story. i’d actually just hopped into the shower before slaughtering chanyeol.”

“w-why?”

“because, see, he told me this was my room,” he replied, still frozen in the spot you’d caught him in. “obviously, i wouldn’t parade around your bedroom while completely naked, i’m not—not that drunk. i’m not drunk at all, actually. but now i wish i were.”

you snickered – he wasn’t expecting that – before speaking, “oh, so was that in your plans after you’d get drunk?”

“throwing my clothes off and creeping around your bed? oh, yeah,” he tried to play his awkwardness off with more humor. “that’s my mating call.”

this time you were full-on laughing.

“i’m not sure i’d have been able to resist that,” you admitted, confusing jongdae even more.

unfortunately, he was too busy wishing he was dead to focus on your words.

“let me get you a towel now,” you said then, your next words causing unexpected sensations to run down his body, “but maybe you can show me your mating call later tonight.”

“I made your favourite for tea,” Jongdae’s hushed voice broke your attention from the tv, making him pout as he got to see how red and puffy your face was.

The mug was set on the bed site table before he joined you in bed, wrapping your burning body in his arms in hopes that it would somehow transfer the illness onto him so you’d no longer suffer. 

“You’ll get sick,” you warned quietly but made no attempt to move away from the warmth and comfort he offered. 

Your boyfriend’s reply came in the form of a scoff as he nuzzled his face into your shoulder.

Here's a very unpopular one: I don't like soulmate aus! Mostly because it gives readerss the false understanding that your soulmate is 1) oh so easy to find, 2) the universe deemed that you do have a soulmate (not everyone wants one or needs one) and 3) that it's a magic epic journey to find them. It's great to imagine and pretend, for sure, but real life is so different from that! (Again, totally understand this is fanfiction world but readers are so impressionable!)

Agree! I do like them, and I like writing them, but there’s for sure a fine line. I much prefer the soulmate connections that are very obviously fictional (like being born with your soulmate’s first words to you somewhere on your body) because it makes it more obvious that it will not happen that way!

My unpopular opinion is that I don’t like Mafia AUs!
