The new ck3 dlc rocks. Being able to run around as an adventurer for a while and then get landed to start your run towards being a kind or emperor adds a ton of background and motivation. Now I have a reason why this random family has this land and is influential in the area. I ran around Byzantium as a mercenary and then in my old age bought an estate and settled into empire politics. Now my son who I'm playing as is a governor vying for increased power of his family in the realm. Really, really cool expansion of the paths you can follow in this game. One of the best paradox DLCs ever imo.

Last night I grabbed my laptop to hook up to my speakers for night time background noise. Windows 11 update prompt on boot. Get past that and the lock screen, now I have to wait for things to start up just so I can close them. It's running awfully slow. Open up task manager and we see strange windows background processes taking up all the CPU. What thing is Windows downloading onto my computer without me asking? Firefox didn't work when I launched it. I had to use Edge.

I have a bachelor's degree in computer science, and it took me until this year to realize I hate just about everything to do with computer technology as it's evolved to the current day. I've been shaken to my core realizing I can't support anything happening in the industry. My whole plan for the first quarter of my life has evaporated right when it was done.

Right now we're going through what me and my friends are lovingly calling "the enshittification" of the information era. We're approaching the limits of capacity what greed can push against reasonable existence. We are being crushed by a shareholder class that is squeezing every drop of life from us and our earth for their lines to keep going up. I am keeping hope that this is a low point, a necessary point after the acceleration of our technology. That we'll get to see a new era of responsible tech development that isn't dominated by pairs of companies at each manufacturing level.

Until then, I need to figure out what the hell to do with myself

You know what, fuck it, I don't *want* some frivolous, artisanal, lighter-than-air computer with no customizability, no upgradeability, no reparability, no ports, and a lifetime of *maybe* 3 years if you're lucky. I want a fucking great BEAST of a computer that's designed to last a minimum of 50 years, with ports up the wazoo and optional drives for every kind of media! I want modular components that you can drop in a bog for a year, dry them off, and have them still work fine! I want them to make a noise like "ker-chunk!" when you slide them into place! I want a switch that you pull to turn it on! And I don't want software that constantly forces you to get a pointless, cosmetic "upgrade" every few months either! I want durability! I want longevity! I want satisfying haptics! I want Silicon Valley to go fuck itself!

One big plus about working on the same study project most of this year is that I've gathered a lot of knowledge on how I learn best and what kind of notes I need. Which is a lot lol.

I hope I can turn this level of study towards art when I'm not spending so much energy getting a job.

My image tagging project is coming along. Still using TagSpaces which puts the tags in the filename. I wish the software was faster, it's a slowwww electron app. Don't like it when I can interact with software faster than it can handle/display.

finishing up the initial statistics part of my cert today, then going back and filling out wiki note pages. Then on to regression and machine learning. Challenging stuff coming but I'm getting there!

the last vestige of me thinking round thin metal frames can work but my lenses are entirely too big for that look now
