The information technology industry is experiencing a boom like never before, and more and more brands are looking to expand in this area because of its immense potential. Furthermore, information technology has various applications, which is also why it has proven to be a beneficial key component in the entire structure that industries now have. With this growing importance, it becomes essential to understand the critical aspects of this industry and the key features that make it the revolutionary tool it is.
Information Technology Trends
New trends arise within this industry every year, and it becomes essential for professionals to be familiar with these different trends and all that they entail. No matter what profession one is working in, being familiar with these can improve your professional standing and help you understand the potential upgrades for the industry you are already working in.
1. Cloud Computing
One of the biggest trends that have emerged during the past year is cloud computing. More and more industries realize that it is essential for a company to have a designated place for all of its digital information and resources. Having a well-protected place that can take care of everything and keep the information safe has almost become a necessity. Cloud computing is the go-to solution for brands who want to improve their work and make it more efficient digitally.
2. Mobile Apps
Mobile applications have only grown in popularity over the past few years, and this year, they are surfacing in bigger and better ways. Brands and industries worldwide are trying to improve their work by using mobile apps and implementing new resources that can make working on the go more efficient.
3. Big Data Analytics
Big data analytics is a trend that has grown over the past few years. This is implemented in almost every industry using large-scale production processes, manufacturing, and supply. Big data analytics allows brands to process their information better and better understand the areas they need to develop.
4. Automation
Automation is one trend that has primarily hit the manufacturing and production units and is estimated to only grow more in the coming years. Automation has also enabled processes to work faster and would allow companies to reach their goals much more efficiently.

While automation grows, artificial intelligence is now seeing the light of day. The past year saw the introduction of several new mediums of artificial intelligence. This year, industries are looking at ways in which they can grow these resources and implement the work they do. Artificial intelligence is now starting to see implementation on a larger scale which is only set to grow more over the coming years.
6. Smart Technology
Intelligent machines that use artificial intelligence or automation are on the rise, even in small-scale units and smaller implementations. Homes are becoming more innovative due to the intelligent technology used and opted for in homes. Simple tools such as Alexa have become essential to homes and are only estimated to increase over the next year.
7. Virtual Reality
The gaming industry has always been one that has experienced growth alongside the field of information technology, and virtual reality has taken this one step further, giving customers the epitome of digital experience. Virtual reality gaming has already started to become popular due to new technology, which improves how the industry can grow.
8. Augmented Reality
Augmented reality is another approach to ‘artificial experiences’ that individuals are now given access to. This has improved how the field has been able to develop. Augmented reality is seeing a lot more applicability outside the gaming industry as well and is something that is seeing more implementation as compared to virtual reality.
9. Blockchain Data
Cryptocurrency might have been at an all-time high in 2017 and 2018, but the fact remains that this is yet to see significant development. Blockchain technology is only starting to grow in popularity and is being implemented by industries worldwide for all it offers.
10. CyberSecurity
With the growth of digital mediums and technology, the potential threats that people can face are only rising. Because of this, cybersecurity has had to grow extensively over the past few years to stay in touch with the growth experienced. TRENDS IN ICT
1. CONVERGENCE- technological convergence is the combination of two or more different entities of technologies to create a new single device.
Smartphones that we use everyday is the best example of convergence which combines print media, broadcast media, and new media into one single device that can do many things, from making calls and and sending texts to taking pictures, making videos and many more.
2. Social Media- is a website, application, or online channel that enables web users to create, co-create, discuss, modify, and exchange user generated content.
SIX TYPES OF SOCIAL MEDIA
⁘ Social networks- these are sites that allows you to connect with other people with the same interest or background. It enables users to communicate with each other by posting information, comments, messages, images, etc. Facebook and Google+ are examples of social networks.
⁘ Bookmarking sites- sites that allow you to store and manage links to various website and resources. Most of the sites allow you to create a tag to others like Pinterest and StumbleUpon.
⁘ Social news- a website that features user-posted stories. Such stories are ranked based on popularity, as voted on by other users of the site or by website administrators. An example of this are Reddit and Digg.
⁘ Media Sharing- sites that allow you to upload and share media content like images, music and video.
Youtube, Flickr and Instagram are some examples.
※ Microblogging- focus on short update from the user. Those are subscribed to the user will be able to receive those updates. An example of these sites are Twitter and Plurk.
※ Blogs and Forums- allow user yo post their content. Other users are able to comment on the said topic. Blogger, Wordpress and Tumblr are some example.
Ⅲ. MOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
the popularity of smartphones and tablets has taken a major rise over the years. This is largely because of the devices capability to do the tasks that were originally found in PCs. Several of these devices are capable of using a high-speed internet. Today the latest model devices use 4G Networking (LTE), which is currently the fastest.
MOBILE OS
1. iOS - use in apple devices such as iPhone and iPad
2. Android - an open source OS developed by Google. Being open source means mobile phone companies use this OS for free.
3. Blackberry OS - used in blackberry devices
4. Windows phone OS - A closed source and proprietary operating system developed by Microsoft.
5. Symbian - the original smartphone OS. Used by Nokia devices
6. Web OS- originally used in smartphone; now in smart TVs.
7. Windows Mobile - developed by Microsoft for smartphones and pocket PCs

is a nonprofit service designed to help people who have visual and reading impairments.
assistive Media is an Internet-delivered audio reading service for people with visual or perceptual reading impairments.
the purpose is to heighten educational, cultural, and quality-of-living standards through the pure enjoyment of reading via the good and useful work of not-for-profit service.
Ⅴ. CLOUD COMPUTING
distributed computing on internet or delivery of computing service over the internet.
EXAMPLES : Yahoo!, Gmail, Hotmail
instead of running an e-mail program on your computer, you log in to a Web e-mail account remotely. The software and storage for your account doesn’t exist on your computer – it’s on the service’s computer cloud.It has three components
1. Client computers – clients are the device that the end user interact with cloud.
2. Distributed Servers – Often servers are in geographically different places, but server acts as if they are working next to each other.
3. Datacenters – It is collection of servers where application is placed and is accessed via Internet.
TYPES OF CLOUDS
• Public cloud - allows systems and services to be easily accessible to the general public. Public cloud may be less secured because of its openness, e.g. e-mail
• Private cloud - allows systems and services to be accessible within an organization. It offers increased security because of its private nature.
• Community cloud - allows systems and services to be accessible by group of organizations.
• Hybrid cloud - is a mixture of public and private cloud. However, the critical activities are performed using private cloud while the non-critical activities are performed using public cloud

Wellbeing has emerged as a hot topic across many areas of our social, workplace, and government ecosystems in recent years. While there is currently no agreed international definition for wellbeing, those who research the area agree that wellbeing is more than the absence of disease, it is a construct with many parts. In order to flourish people need to experience high levels of wellbeing.
A cultural narrative describes what is unique about the place and the people your educational setting is part of. In the New Zealand context, a cultural narrative recognises the histories of and by mana whenua (tribes who have territorial authority over land), their sacred places, their interactions with the land and their ways of being as a people. It helps build a common understanding of their values, their heritage and their traditional and spiritual connections to the land and the environment.
This trend involves the ways in which technology can enable re-discovery and preservation of the connections we have with ‘our place’. It is about preserving the notion of place as an important part of identity, including how we understand our past and how we face the future.
Social mapping also includes the emerging practices of using big data to bring together multiple views of communities to reveal areas of particular need or opportunity. This includes the community of a school/kura, and the range of factors that may be working for or against the learning and wellbeing of students/ākonga.
A newspaper headline earlier this year declared “Six month school report to parents looks set to be axed”, drawing attention to the proposal in a publicly available conversation document which asks: "How can we shift from reporting to parents and whānau as a twice-yearly 'compliance' activity to ongoing information sharing with ākonga [students], parents and whānau?”.
Six-monthly school / kura reports on student / ākonga progress and achievement has been an historical requirement from the government. This approach to reporting is retrospective, providing parents, whānau and board of trustees with information on a child’s past performance, and not always providing an accurate picture of their ‘real-time’ performance. Instead of using formative assessment to improve future learning, these reports are static, and without meaningful next steps for development.
For a long time schools / kura have been regarded as independent even ‘insular’ places where teaching and learning take place. We ‘send’ our tamariki to school or we ‘go’ to school to learn, in much the same way as we ‘go’ to our place of employment or ‘go’ to the dentist. This traditional view of schools and schooling has more often focused on the structures that support the institution, rather than activities that support the learning.
Since the New Zealand education reforms of 1989 the policies and resourcing from the central government have reinforced this notion of schools as stand-alone entities.
A traditional view of the teacher’s role is as a giver of knowledge. Teachers share knowledge with students on a particular subject, through lessons that build on their prior knowledge and move them toward a deeper understanding of the subject. Supporting this view are underpinning beliefs about knowledge as being ‘fixed’ and able to be ‘transferred’.
Of course, teachers do have other roles: as evaluators of how effectively the transfer of knowledge has been achieved, as managers of behaviour and expectations, and as ‘carers’ catering for the health and wellbeing needs of those in their charge. But for the most part these exist to ensure the process of knowledge transfer is efficiently served.
Micro-credentialing returns the ownership to the learner, and allows them to map their own pathway through the things of interest to them, and have them recognised in a transferrable way. Think of the badges earned in Guides or Scouts. The individual is able to pursue the area(s) of particular interest to her/him, and the criteria for earning the “badge of learning” is made explicit.
Micro-credentials are, at their core, certifications offered for taking courses and developing skills in specific areas. Variously called badges, nano-credentials or nano-degrees, these credentials promise recognition for workforce upskilling and reskilling.
Data that is gathered and stored in this way is referred to as ‘big data’. Having access to big data enables us to do searches, compare information, and see correlations and trends in ways never before experienced. We’ve become used to seeing the modelling of complex weather patterns on the evening news, predictions made about election outcomes, or movements on the stock exchange, all made possible because of big data.
Big data is a massive volume of data that moves too fast and is too large and complex to analyse and process without the use of very sophisticated technology. Every day, big data systems gather billions and trillions of items of information from millions of people from a range of sources such as web analytics, social media, customer service information and mobile phone applications and services.
The concept of human capital has been around for some time. It emerged in economic writing to recognise the fact that people are viewed as crucial to an organisation’s performance, rather than simply as workers who carry out set routines and activities. Economists regard expenditure on education, training, medical care, and so on as investments in human capital.
Traditional ways of measuring success - personally and as a nation - are often linked with economic outcomes, and social status. In a world where these may no longer hold value, we need to consider new ways of thinking about success. We need to broaden the definition of school/kura success by expanding the indicators used to measure progress towards that goal.
Many of the current local and international approaches to measuring and reporting on educational quality have tended to be limited to literacy, numeracy and science achievement. These measures are necessary but not sufficient. A growing chorus of voices is asking, “Isn’t education about more than that? Don’t we need healthy kids who can think; who are innovative and will grow up to be engaged citizens?” When there is too much emphasis on narrow goals, important priorities can be overshadowed.

a) Social Networks - These are sites that allows you to connect with other people with the same interests or background. Once the user creates his/her account, he/she can set up a profile, add people, share content, etc. Ex. Facebook and Google+

TYPES OF CLOUDS
PUBLIC CLOUD allows systems and services to be easily accessible to the general public. Public cloud may be less secured because of its openness, e.g. e-mail.
PRIVATE CLOUD allows systems and services to be accessible within an organization. It offers increased security because of its private nature.
COMMUNITY CLOUD allows systems and services to be accessible by group of organizations. HYBRID CLOUD is a mixture of public and private cloud. However, the critical activities are performed using private cloud while the non- critical activities are performed using public cloud.

TRENDS IN ICT
Wellbeing has emerged as a hot topic across many areas of our social, workplace, and government ecosystems in recent years. While there is currently no agreed international definition for wellbeing, those who research the area agree that wellbeing is more than the absence of disease, it is a construct with many parts. In order to flourish people need to experience high levels of wellbeing.
A cultural narrative describes what is unique about the place and the people your educational setting is part of. In the New Zealand context, a cultural narrative recognises the histories of and by mana whenua (tribes who have territorial authority over land), their sacred places, their interactions with the land and their ways of being as a people. It helps build a common understanding of their values, their heritage and their traditional and spiritual connections to the land and the environment.
This trend involves the ways in which technology can enable re-discovery and preservation of the connections we have with ‘our place’. It is about preserving the notion of place as an important part of identity, including how we understand our past and how we face the future.Social mapping also includes the emerging practices of using big data to bring together multiple views of communities to reveal areas of particular need or opportunity. This includes the community of a school/kura, and the range of factors that may be working for or against the learning and wellbeing of students/ākonga.
A newspaper headline earlier this year declared “Six month school report to parents looks set to be axed”, drawing attention to the proposal in a publicly available conversation document which asks: "How can we shift from reporting to parents and whānau as a twice-yearly 'compliance' activity to ongoing information sharing with ākonga [students], parents and whānau?”. Six-monthly school / kura reports on student / ākonga progress and achievement has been an historical requirement from the government. This approach to reporting is retrospective, providing parents, whānau and board of trustees with information on a child’s past performance, and not always providing an accurate picture of their ‘real-time’ performance. Instead of using formative assessment to improve future learning, these reports are static, and without meaningful next steps for development.
For a long time schools / kura have been regarded as independent even ‘insular’ places where teaching and learning take place. We ‘send’ our tamariki to school or we ‘go’ to school to learn, in much the same way as we ‘go’ to our place of employment or ‘go’ to the dentist. This traditional view of schools and schooling has more often focused on the structures that support the institution, rather than activities that support the learning.Since the New Zealand education reforms of 1989 the policies and resourcing from the central government have reinforced this notion of schools as stand-alone entities.
A traditional view of the teacher’s role is as a giver of knowledge. Teachers share knowledge with students on a particular subject, through lessons that build on their prior knowledge and move them toward a deeper understanding of the subject. Supporting this view are underpinning beliefs about knowledge as being ‘fixed’ and able to be ‘transferred’.Of course, teachers do have other roles: as evaluators of how effectively the transfer of knowledge has been achieved, as managers of behaviour and expectations, and as ‘carers’ catering for the health and wellbeing needs of those in their charge. But for the most part these exist to ensure the process of knowledge transfer is efficiently served.
Micro-credentialing returns the ownership to the learner, and allows them to map their own pathway through the things of interest to them, and have them recognised in a transferrable way. Think of the badges earned in Guides or Scouts. The individual is able to pursue the area(s) of particular interest to her/him, and the criteria for earning the “badge of learning” is made explicit.
Micro-credentials are, at their core, certifications offered for taking courses and developing skills in specific areas. Variously called badges, nano-credentials or nano-degrees, these credentials promise recognition for workforce upskilling and reskilling.
Data that is gathered and stored in this way is referred to as ‘big data’. Having access to big data enables us to do searches, compare information, and see correlations and trends in ways never before experienced. We’ve become used to seeing the modelling of complex weather patterns on the evening news, predictions made about election outcomes, or movements on the stock exchange, all made possible because of big data.
Big data is a massive volume of data that moves too fast and is too large and complex to analyse and process without the use of very sophisticated technology. Every day, big data systems gather billions and trillions of items of information from millions of people from a range of sources such as web analytics, social media, customer service information and mobile phone applications and services.
The concept of human capital has been around for some time. It emerged in economic writing to recognise the fact that people are viewed as crucial to an organisation’s performance, rather than simply as workers who carry out set routines and activities. Economists regard expenditure on education, training, medical care, and so on as investments in human capital.
Traditional ways of measuring success - personally and as a nation - are often linked with economic outcomes, and social status. In a world where these may no longer hold value, we need to consider new ways of thinking about success. We need to broaden the definition of school/kura success by expanding the indicators used to measure progress towards that goal.
Many of the current local and international approaches to measuring and reporting on educational quality have tended to be limited to literacy, numeracy and science achievement. These measures are necessary but not sufficient. A growing chorus of voices is asking, “Isn’t education about more than that? Don’t we need healthy kids who can think; who are innovative and will grow up to be engaged citizens?” When there is too much emphasis on narrow goals, important priorities can be overshadowed.

CONVERGENCE.
Technological convergence is the synergy of technological advancements to work on a similar goal or task. For example, besides using your personal computer to create word documents, you can now use your artphone. It can also use cloud technologies to sync files from one device to another while also using LTE technology which means you can access your files anytime, anywhere. Convergence is using several technologies to accomplish a task conveniently.
SOCIAL MEDIA
Social media is a website, application, or online channel that enables web users to create, co-create, discuss, modify, and exchange user-generated content. According to Nielsen, a global information and measurement company, Internet users spend more time in social media sites than in any other type of site. With this, more and more advertisers use social media to promote their product.
