Jim can’t help but smile. He looks behind him as it there’s maybe a kid standing there that she’s talking to instead, but nope. She had been addressing Jim, that much was clear. He cocked a brow. “They say lots of things, right? I’m interested what your favorite is.”

"Yeah." Ember repeated the word back, an inscrutable expression on her face. "Yeah. Okay, sure. I know we didn't exactly help people get used to us when we chose to not interact with, y'know, basically anyone who wasn't a fire caster, but it's not like that anymore." Fire danced across Ember's palm and wrapped itself around her fingertips. "It'll only burn you if I let it, and I have zero reason to do that. We're all cool here."

Jim looked as uncomfortable as he felt. The truth was, fire made him extremely nervous. When he’d seen the girl controlling that element, he’d just simply reacted. He’d flinched. “Sorry. Wasn’t trying to jump to conclusions. I just-” He shifted in his spot, awkwardly avoiding her eyes. “...Yeah.”
