Traveling from Singapore to Malaysia Like a Pro: Your Ultimate Guide to an Epic Journey!
Hey there, fellow travelers! If you're itching to explore the wonders of Malaysia from Singapore like a seasoned pro, I've got some awesome insider tips for you. I've been on this journey a few times, and trust me, it's a fantastic adventure packed with incredible sights and unforgettable experiences. So, let's dive right in and get you all set for an epic trip!
Plan Ahead and Book a Sweet Private Car Ride:
First things first, don't leave your travel arrangements to the last minute! Plan ahead and book yourself a super cool private car service like V6 Transport. They've got comfy 7-seat and 10-seat rides that'll make you feel like a VIP on the road. Plus, booking in advance means no stress about getting stuck in long lines or waiting forever for your ride.
Check Those Travel Docs, People!
I know it sounds kinda obvious, but you won't believe how many times folks forget to check their visas and travel documents. Double-check your passport's all good and that you've got any required visas for Malaysia. It'll save you tons of headache at the border, trust me.
Take Your Time Exploring the Best Spots:
Malaysia has so much to offer, from the iconic Petronas Twin Towers to the awe-inspiring Batu Caves. My advice? Avoid the crazy crowds by visiting these hotspots during off-peak hours. That way, you'll have more space to snap Insta-worthy pics and really soak in the beauty of these places.
Get in the Local Vibe and Munch on Street Food:
You can't say you've been to Malaysia without digging into some mouthwatering street food! Head to the hawker centers, and let your taste buds go wild with all the local delicacies. Trust me, it's the best way to experience the true flavors of Malaysia!
Pack Smart, Pack Light:
Listen, I get it – we all wanna bring our entire wardrobe on trips, but that's just not practical. Pack light and opt for comfy and versatile clothes suitable for the tropical weather. Oh, and don't forget to toss in sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and a power bank to keep your gadgets juiced up.
Stay Connected with a Handy Travel SIM Card:
Staying connected is essential, right? Grab yourself a travel SIM card for both Singapore and Malaysia. That way, you can stay on top of your game with maps, translation apps, and more. Plus, you won't miss out on sending envy-inducing pics to your friends back home!
So there you have it, folks – your ultimate guide to rocking your journey from Singapore to Malaysia like a true travel pro! Remember, plan ahead, book a sweet private car, and check those travel docs before you hit the road. Take your time exploring the best spots, savor the local flavors, and don't overpack – keep it light and smart. With these tips, you'll be all set for an epic adventure you'll cherish forever. Safe travels, and have a blast exploring Malaysia like a true pro! Bon voyage!

SIM Card Review: Surfroam
Tumblr media
Since I travel so much I thought I would write some reviews on the products I’ve found useful (and not so useful) on my travels. The first thing I’ll write about is an international SIM Card I just started using called Surfroam.
Prior to getting this SIM Card I had a few options:
1. Getting a local SIM Card in whatever country I was in. 2. Using a card I got in the UK from mobile carrier ‘Three’ or ‘3′. It gave me access to a fairly low prepaid rate that I could top-up anytime which was good anywhere in the EU. The feature was called “Feel at Home” and you could use your balance in far fetched countries like Hong Kong, Australia and the USA as if you were still in the UK. As long as I was able to top-up my balance online this plan would have been okay. However, there are some hurdles - I’ll discuss that in another post I guess. 3. ChatSim. Ideal in some situations, completely annoying in others. Again, this will be a post for another time!
On to the Review!
Signing up for Surfroam was easy. The card was essentially free- well...you had to pay 15 euros for it but that money would also be counted as credit. This was paid for via PayPal which made it fairly easy for me.
I ordered the card while riding a bus in Tanzania and had it mailed to a friend in Berlin. I picked it up about a week later.
The package was small - just a slightly larger envelope than a standard letter. The SIM Card came with instructions, and the standard plastic punch-outs for the various sizes. It also came with one of those tools to remove the card from your phone. I’ve been using a paperclip for the last two years so now it’s nice to finally have one of those little pieces of metal.
Physical installation was easy ... for me - since I switch out SIM Cards for my phone every few weeks (hopefully by the time I need a new iPhone they’ll have dual SIM trays or eSIMs will be more widespread!!).
Now getting the card to work was a little bit more of a hassle. For me the card would work some days and other times not so well. One particularly awful day it would work for about 30 seconds only after I did a complete restart of my iPhone.
After talking to customer service I think I figured out the main issue: The instructions tell you to change the Data APN to ‘globaldata’ but it wasn’t too clear to me that the MMS and Hotspot APNs had to change as well. So I think that was what continued to interfere with connecting. Since that one bad day, the card has been working fine- in Germany at least.
Checking your balance is easy. You go to app.surfroam.com and enter your SIM information and you’re in. Topping up your balance is almost as easy but requires going to a different site. It’s not instantaneous though and you’ll have to wait a few minutes for the new credit to be added. Here is a summary of my thoughts for this card:
Pros: - The low €0.01/mb rate in many EU countries and a few non-EU countries make it convenient for short-term travel. The rate for my home country, Canada, is €0.02/mb, which is actually slightly cheaper than paying for 1gb prepaid with one of the main Canadian service providers. - Easy ordering and straightforward installation. - Works in many, many, many countries all over the world. The rates aren’t great everywhere (see cons) but if you need something in an emergency or just for half a day then this is extremely convenient. - Your balance doesn’t expire.
Cons: - The biggest con I had was getting it to work initially. There are a lot of settings you need to change in order for it to work. Not sure why it can’t be automatically be hardcoded in to the SIM Card. - You get decent rates in some places and AWFUL rates in other places. In some countries you will be FAR better off buying a local SIM Card. Places like India and Tanzania will offer much better rates through local cards than the surfroam rate. If you look at the list of rates, you’ll realize that if you aren’t careful you could spend your entire balance by just sending two photos in Ethiopia! So be very careful and aware of the rate and the country you are going to.
Conclusion: Because the balance doesn’t expire and it works at a decent rate in many european countries, I think surfroam is a great extra SIM Card to have at all times- even if you’re not a super frequent traveller like myself.
If you make occaisional trips to Europe or for some reason end up in South Korea, Afghanistan, or Kazakhstan - you’ll get a reasonable rate on data. So it just really depends on where you’re going to travel and how long you’re going to be in each place.
This review is NOT sponsored but I will place a referral/affiliate link HERE if you’d like to support my continued travels and reviews while getting a SIM Card for yourself.

What is Cloud SIM Technology?
A cloud SIM, also known as a virtual SIM or eSIM, is a type of SIM card that is stored in the cloud and can be accessed via a mobile device or a SIM card reader. Instead of using a physical SIM card, a cloud SIM uses a digital version that can be provisioned and activated over-the-air (OTA) via a wireless connection. It allows a user to switch between different mobile network providers without having to physically change their SIM card.
Cloud SIMs can be used in a variety of devices such as smartphones, tablets, laptops, IoT devices, and more. Cloud SIM technology can provide a number of benefits when compared to traditional roaming. For example, cloud SIMs can allow users to automatically switch to a local network when traveling abroad, which can result in lower roaming charges. Additionally, cloud SIMs can allow for more flexibility when it comes to choosing a mobile network provider, as users can easily switch between providers without having to physically change their SIM card.
Cloud SIM is one of the best solutions available. SIM cards of any operator around the world can be allocated to any users at any time and anywhere. Consumers can gain access to best services provided by multiple local operators, in terms of coverage, experience and price.
A.    Customer arrives in a new country and turns on their Unnitel Device
B.    A unique virtual SIM Card is allocated to the Unnitel device from a local Tier-1 mobile operator
C.    Data flow at 3G/4G rate is provided
D.    When Device is powered off or leave the coverage area the virtual SIM is released
Cloud SIM Outperforms Roaming Cloud SIMs can also help to ease the process of managing and provisioning SIMs for fleet management and IoT devices, because it eliminates the need to physically distribute, install and manage SIM cards. It also allows for over-the-air (OTA) updates, which can be useful in the case of security vulnerabilities or software bugs.
When a cloud SIM is assigned to a better performing Telco, it allows the device to connect to the mobile network with the best signal strength and coverage in the area. This can result in improved call quality, faster internet speeds, and more reliable connectivity.
The process of assigning a better performing Telco to a cloud SIM can vary depending on the provider, but generally, it involves selecting the desired network provider in a mobile application or web interface, and then activating the SIM card over a wireless connection.

What is an international SIM card?
Before we get into international sim cards, let’s understand what a ‘Sim Card’ is. A SIM stands for Subscriber Identity Module, and stores basic information like name and number about the user of the phone. It is a small plastic card that goes inside your phone and uses the Global System of Mobile Communications, or GSM, for short. A sim card allows you to make calls, send messages and access the internet. In the same vein, an international sim card has the same functionality as a normal sim card but can be used worldwide.
An international SIM card or travel SIM card allows you to connect to a local network in various countries around the world. In this manner, you can avoid excessive roaming fees that your local operator or carrier may charge when you are abroad. While buying a local SIM card may prove marginally cheaper if you are staying in one country for extended periods of time, an international SIM is a far more flexible option for frequent travelers, especially if you have several destinations during your trip. International SIM cards are all about convenience. Here are some advantages of using an international SIM card like
There’s also the factor of convenience, International sim cards can readily be bought from an airport kiosk, the minute you arrive in a new country. So if you were wondering, “Where to buy the best international sim card from?”, we hope you’ve got your answer. It takes just a couple of minutes to set up but soon you will be hooked up with data, calls and texts before you even step outside to catch a taxi.
Most international sim cards allow students to access data, calls and texts in over 100 different countries around the world
How Does An International Sim Card Work?
International sim cards allow users to connect to different networks in the world without being charged outrageously for making or receiving calls. This is possible because carriers make bilateral agreements with other carriers ahead of time to allow each other’s customers to use telecommunications networks across the globe.
