Episode 4 of the new documentary #Babies on #netflix talks about how babies acquire language. This episode summarises that babies learn language through the music (pitch, rhythm, flow) of speech. I am even more intrigued to learn the research Dr Erich Jarvis did back in 1990s. In his research, he found out that the vocal learning area in songbirds are right next to the motor cortex, suggesting motor circuits are activated in speech productions, which was believed to be sharing similar mechanisms to humans. This episode ends by encouraging parents to read to their children in supporting their language development. ❤️ all these research! They further support how speech, language, music and movement are all intertwined in us! So if you’re an expecting mom, start singing your favourite song to your bub, because your baby’s ears start to develop as early as at 16 weeks gestation. If you’re a new mom, sing to your baby, engage them with #playsongs, soothe them with #lullabies, transition them to different daily routines (eg. diaper change, bath, dressing, mealtimes) with #transitionsongs. If you work with children, use songs as a strategy, throw in a few #storysongs whenever you can 🎵 Music is POWERFUL. Music makes us human, and humans makes music. #worldmusictherapyday2020 #conbriomusictherapy #babiesconbrio #singtoyourbaby #musicandspeech #musicandmovement https://www.instagram.com/p/B9MY_-hpYa3/?igshid=conk59xqg4wu

I like how the lyrics have spelt out all the classroom expectations. Love the accompanied steady beat in this transition song too....

“Walk Walk Walk” is one of our favourite action songs, from Stephanie Leavell @music_for_kiddos. We bought this CD called “Move it, move it!” and Joli had this CD on while doing her sand art today. She had her sand art completed when her favourite song was played and was dancing to it. I love this song because it is simple, and is beautiful when sung in just acapella. It guides a complete set of actions and allows changing of action words in matching the children’s energy levels when transitioning them from one activity to another in classroom settings. If you like this song, this album is available on Spotify too! #earlychildhoodmusictherapy #earlychildhoodmusic #earlychildhoodclassroom #transitionsongs #actionsongsforkids #conbriomusictherapy #babiesconbrio # https://www.instagram.com/p/CBSZT3VHpBO/?igshid=16crouoyl3w5p
