Btw if you want an example of actually cute and appropriate handling of a baby hippo in an accredited zoo with trained keepers, there’s always Fiona the Hippo at Cincinnati Zoo!

She was born premature and had to be hand raised initially

Fiona felt very safe with her keepers and she would regularly snuggle with them and snooze on their laps. They had to monitor her 24/7 and take feedings in shifts - and it was very uncertain whether she would even survive!

While you might say that it’s hypocritical to support free contact in one situation and not another, this is a situation where free contact was very much okay. They had to support Fiona like this as she was regularly needing medical intervention and needed to be constantly monitored around the clock.

What’s the difference between Fiona and Moo Deng’s situation? Agency and respect. Fiona was never harassed for views or forced into situations she didn’t want to be in.

The content they made with her was showing the process of hand raising a premature baby hippo. Even when they picked her up to put her in her pool she was never madly thrashing to get away.

The goal was always to transition her to be completely hands off and be with her mother Bibi. And her habitat is species appropriate with deep water for swimming in.

She was able to be reintroduced to her mother and grow up engaging in appropriate social behaviours in an enriching and species appropriate habitat.

And she’s now 7 years old and still thriving!

"Initially, the church wasn't a focal point. There were certain characters that needed to visit this location, and I asked, "Seriously, what do we have in our church?" The others replied, "Nothing at all. Our church is completely bare—just a wheel, really. It's quite basic."

That's when I decided to unleash my creativity in the design. For example, they chose to install a glass structure at the top of the church to create a reflective surface. It was like placing an optical clock up there. Therefore, one of the most crucial aspects of designing the church was ensuring the lighting was just right to create the desired atmosphere."

"Let me show you an example of Baroque architecture, which is rich in detail. We're also designing the interior of the church based on large cathedrals. However, the foundation you use might not yield the expected results, because the church itself doesn't require such intricate details. Sometimes, it's about simplifying the design."

"I used Articy for the initial scriptwriting of Disco Elysium. The image only represents a tiny fraction of the text and choice variables involved. This system was also the reason I eventually abandoned the project after a year of outlining the script and shifted my focus to becoming a sound designer. My mind struggled to keep up with the dynamic graphic rules, but fortunately, a more talented writer took over afterward."

"In terms of sound design, it's essential to develop different layers to bring out the charm of the church as a cohesive space. Although this represents only a small portion of the overall design, each layer actually requires a significant amount of time to compose the whole....... Whenever there's a shift or a change due to the dialogue itself, you need to adjust the background sounds. Each time you modify the details in the dialogue, I have to refine the background audio, ensuring that these elements build upon each other like an intricate layer of work."

"It's funny how many scenes involve characters getting smacked in the face. My job was to recreate those, so I locked myself in the bathroom with a recorder and hit my forehead until it turned red.

As a sound designer, I really dig those unsettling, drill-like sounds. So, I mixed in creepy lectures, metal scraping, moans, and cries of pain—because I just love that stuff! (laughs)

Players will be moving through all kinds of areas, so it's super important to make the sound transitions feel natural, trying to create a more immersive vibe in certain spaces.

With all the scenes featuring big cranes, you can hear them from far away, and I wanted to capture that eerie ringing in your ears. That's going to be a thing throughout most of the game. I've found ways to really mess with players while they're playing!"

"I've come across a lot of old objects (like phones and radios) that I needed to perfectly replicate the sounds. I started to become a bit of a hoarder, buying up different models of old phones whenever I found one to add to my collection. The sound effects I can simulate from them are really impressive."

"Some of the devices don't actually exist in real life—just a mix of architecture and tech. When I need to create sound effects, I first look for something similar that exists in our world, then I try to simulate what the sound and appearance of that thing might have been like a century ago.

Towards the end of the game, there's a character carrying a fuel canister. We needed the sound of the canister, so we dug one up from our garage—it had been sitting there since it was five! I realized this would make the sound perfect. So, it had been there for 50 years, and after 40 years, it finally found its purpose.

In some places, I needed unique sound waves, and recreating them was a real headache until one day I happened to walk by a swimming pool and stumbled upon an old wartime torpedo. You can rotate the torpedo's probe, and it slowly rises up, like a proud zombie head. The sounds it made were exactly what I needed!"

🙋How did you manage to get funding?

"Well, since we're in Estonia, you just need to know a wealthy person. You don't need five people—just two who can network, hang out together, and convince them to keep investing! (laughs) Back then, we constantly ran out of money and would tell them, 'Oops, looks like we spent it all! Can you invest a bit more?' That's how we made it through!"

🙋How did you all come together to make the game?

"Luck. It usually doesn't happen this way, and that's the key difference. It has to be. If not, you couldn't create a game of this scale - well, I mean in terms of budget. But creatively, Estonia definitely has writers and artists who can pull it off. With such a small population, there are a lot of quirky folks who are good friends. We were really lucky, though - lots of fortunate circumstances came together. It brought the right people together, allowing those talented fools to collaborate with us. They had experience but hadn't tackled projects of this magnitude before. So yeah, luck is pretty important!"

Better Pool Floats

Hello I have a cute little mod I'm really excited to share with you! It started with a simple little inner tube, but I became so obsessed it turned into a whole pool float overhaul. 

01 / Custom Animation Overrides

I really love using pool floats, but I always thought the default sitting pose was quite boring and stiff. So I've created new custom animations for the “relax” and “nap” interactions for adults and children. The pose is much more relaxed and natural now. 

I chose not to override every animation, so you can still play the original EA version if you choose “sunbathe”.  Since I didn’t override every animation, there will be some jumpy transitions between the EA pose and the relaxed pose. It’s particularly noticeable if the sim has a drink while relaxing, because there are a lot of different drink animations. There may also be some clipping or small imperfections.

02 / Improved Locomotion

I didn’t like how quickly the pool float would spin around and drift away, so I adjusted the movement speed to be much slower. Now it gently floats at a more natural pace.

03 / Custom Tuning Override

This will override the gameplay functionality for all pool floats in the game, including any cc that uses the default object_SitLoungeFloat tuning. I refined a lot of little details to improve the overall gameplay experience. 

"Relax" now restores a bit of energy and fun, and also reduces negative buffs.

New "Relax Nude" interaction

Tired sims won't autonomously go to nap in the pool instead of like, a bed or sofa.

Sims won't always fall asleep after relaxing. Now they'll only fall asleep if they're tired, bored, lazy or drunk. (You can still manually use the nap interaction though.) 

Removed the “scared” buffs and fear triggers. I found it annoying my sims would frequently develop a fear of swimming after relaxing on a pool float. Make it make sense EA!

Other small changes that no one will even notice 

Bonus / Italia Classic Pool Float (Requires Riviera Retreat)

I originally designed this pool float for my upcoming Italia Tartosa World, but I'm sharing it early so you can enjoy it now. Just to be clear, my cc float is not required for the other features of the mod. And the mod features will work with floats from other packs like Island Living as well.

This mod is in early Access until 14/10/24. I worked really hard on this so I appreciate your patience and support ♡

after the games, nam-gyu goes fully hedonistic mode. uses his winnings to burn through every vice he couldn’t afford before.

he nearly dies in a club in itaewon—found in a bathroom stall foaming at the mouth. once he’s discharged from the psych hold, you tell him you’ve booked a recovery resort for the both of you in gangwon-do. you promise gourmet food, swimming pools, minibars; a private getaway to give your relationship one last shot.

except it’s not a resort. it’s a luxury rehab centre with armed medical staff. LOL

they take his phone and put him through detox. they call you emergency contact when he threatens to claw out his IV with a fork.

nam-gyu gets one phonecall, and he uses it to call you a manipulative cunt.

you say: “if i don’t make you live through this, then what the fuck was the point.”

three weeks in, you visit during the allotted hour. he nearly lunges at you. staff pull him back by the shirt.

he screams in your face, “you know i hate you for this, right? you fucking psychotic manipulative cunt?” you tell calmly him, “i know. but i’d rather you hate me than die of overdose.”

he doesn’t talk to you for the next month.

two months in, you get another phone call.

“i don’t hate you anymore. still think about strangling you in your sleep, but. less often.”

you drive up the same weekend and bring him some junk food he likes and copies of dogeared murakami paperbacks that you’re not sure if he actually reads.

six months later, he mails you a polaroid of himself eating soba and flipping off the camera. on the back: “clean. bored. now get me out of this place.”

CHOI SU-BONG (최수봉) / PLAYER 230

so he disappeared for a full week during squid game. no staff contact, no sightings, no updates. rumors swirl—dead, arrested, fled the country most likely.

he finally reappears at a press event for his label, sunglasses on indoors, chewing on his hoodie string. when asked where he’s been:

“self-medicating,” thanos says with a dazzling smile. “creative reset.”

three months later, he drops the comeback album. every track hits global charts: two go platinum in korea. billboard ranks it top album of the year. fans call it “his magnum opus.”

track 8 is just titled “230.” nobody knows what it means. only you do. that song dominated melon, bugs, genie, itunes, spotify—all of it—for 14 weeks straight.

thanos starts soft launching you on his instagram stories: a dinner table—two sets of chopsticks, one plate, your hands blurry in motion pouring soju.

internet comments go feral and his PR team has an aneurysm. but he doesn’t care.

he refers to you in interviews vaguely: “my partner,” “the reason i didn’t die that hellish week.”

CHO HYUN-JU (조현주) / PLAYER 120

first things first: hyun-ju is already the most beautiful woman you’ve ever seen. always has been—pre-op, mid-transition, but after the surgery, she glows.

during her recovery, you live together in bangkok for a while, five-star-hotels. days spent in silk robes, nights with mango sticky rice and rooftop cocktails. she loved the infinity pool and breakfast buffets.

when she’s strong enough to walk without pain, you both go dancing. in high heels.

every morning/evening she (shyly) asks you to take her photo by the window, natural light on her face, no filter.

a year later, you buy a pink bougainvillea near hua hin. it has white-tiled floors, tall windows that opened to sea air. breezy balconies, palm trees tangled over the fence line.

you get married barefoot in your own backyard, her veil pinned with seashells.

she calls you her wife every chance she gets.

“i waited my whole life to be me,” she says, resting her head on your shoulder. “and now i get to be yours, too.”

little does she know, you were hers in the beginning.

KIM JUN-HEE (김준희)/ PLAYER 222

after the games, you and jun-hee split the prize money. she tries to argue—insists she won’t take more than half—but you don’t budge. after all, she has a baby girl to take care of.

you relocate somewhere safe: a mid-rise, two-bedroom apartment with a 24-hour doorman. sunlight floods every room in the morning.

she spends her share of money on diapers, powdered formula, and baby clothes: soft pastel onesies, duck-shaped slippers, and a growing army of jellycats on the couch. you find them charming.

shyly, jun-hee asks if it’s okay to list you as her emergency contact.

eventually, you invest in a small online business together: handmade floral wreaths, pressed flower bookmarks. then grows into a physical space: a tiny but aesthetically pleasing storefront, minimal signage.

goes without saying that you’re the baby’s godmother.
