How to Decide Who to Trust When Buying a Tens Unit
A Lot of People who suffer from chronic muscle strain could gain from having an inexpensive TENS unit to reduce their reliance on pain medication also as an effective way to help proper muscular functioning. These battery-powered, high-tech apparatus can be lifesavers for anyone that has problems with chronic pain. Using you can indicate the difference between being at distress and using a busy way of life. It’s possible to find inexpensive TENS units online at low prices. Various men and women have discovered it is a fantastic investment, even as buying these means needing relief from pain that is debilitating. Continue reading to understand some tips to create a decision in your purchase.
TENS is an anagram for Transcutaneous Electric Nerve Stimulation. The components work by distributing stimulating lesions across the epidermis and guts strands. It’s essential to know the way the body responds to pain to ensure you can truly understand the advantages of this kind of therapy. When an individual has an injury or anxiety which creates sharp muscle strain, muscle guarding does occur. This is your body’s method of tensing the muscles at the neighborhood of the damage as a way to trap the location. It reduces blood circulation and will cause additional effects such as the development of surplus waste, lower metabolic rate, along with other unwanted side results.
The TENS unit cubes Electrical stimulation that will get to the brain, which then calms the muscles collections without any needing drugs. This will aid the human body in healing itself while minimizing some immediate pain. This procedure also leads to the brain to produce endorphins, a hormone which behaves as ordinary internal painkillers.
Organizations selling a considerable number of thousands of Units assert their product are the ideal value for that amount of money but neglect to Set the causes why. Having been in the business for over 30 Decades, since the industrial negative began, we believe we could provide some reasons one apparatus Is much far better compared to another.
Lifetime Warranties
The most significant problem with a lifetime warranty is most multiple units reevaluate producer’s or supplier’s existence. There is not any significance in a lifetime warranty in the event the corporation that warranted it has gone outside of business. Start looking for components out of the companies which have been with us and so are very likely to stay.
Best Technologies
Technologies constantly shift which is amongst that main reason why that “life warranties” are only workable before an improvement technology simplifies the old standards. From the thousands firm the technologies change approximately every 3- 5 decades. Medicare will replace components using newer models every five years, knowing it is not a matter of this machine is old. However, the existing technology has shifted a lot of new brand apparatus has been justified.
Short Warranty Cables, Rechargers and Other Accessory Items.
If a business is reluctant to warranty something just such as the wires, which run the power by the thousands unit into the electrodes then be skeptical. Some companies have offered a substantial number of units economical but a thirty-day warranty on the wires. The expense of replacing the cables surpasses the price of the unit, and that’s the pricing model that the businesses used to create a profit. That’s a deceptive means to conduct business.
How to Use the Tens Unit
Broadly speaking in just about all situations multiple units will undoubtedly reduce or eradicate the pain. The issue is not anybody chooses the time or gets the amount of cash, to guarantee the individual is educated about what best to use a machine and the reason also why. Most ineffective tens trials aren’t failures as the device failed to work however neglect as nobody took the opportunity to assist the patient know how exactly to make utilize of the invention for their particular issue. Instruction has become the most high priced advertising and advertising and advertising cost to some company within the industry however should they neglect to get it done that they usually do not live.
Customer Service
Warranties, accessories, and motor without charging, and also capacity to take care of the particulars of this individual’s pain problems should be managed promptly by the company selling the thousands unit. Pain patients want help immediately and perhaps never in the capability of the firm. In the event, the organization won’t possess “customer support” people you can speak to directly afterward they supply “customer no service” since Clark Howard points on his favorite application.

Experience Vagus Nerve Stimulation from Home
During a time when many of us are spending most of our time at home, we’re looking for new ways to stay busy and healthy. Perhaps you’ve started working out at home, or you’re cooking more than you ever have before. But did you know vagus nerve stimulation can also be done from the comfort of your home?
Today we’re going to discuss the wonders of at-home vagus nerve stimulation. But first, let’s talk about the vagus nerve and the benefits of stimulating it in the first place.
What is the vagus nerve?
The vagus is the 10th cranial nerve, and it’s often called “CN X.” Vagus is the Latin term for “wandering,” and the more you learn about the vagus nerve, the more its name makes sense.
The vagus nerve is the longest nerve of the autonomic system. It extends all the way from your brainstem to your digestive system. Along the way, it “wanders” into virtually every major organ system of the body. In fact, the vagus is the information highway from the brain to the heart, airways, lungs, esophagus, stomach, pancreas, and small intestines.
Because the vagus nerve is part of the autonomic nervous system (which regulates body processes without conscious effort), it plays an important role in regulating critical body functions—heart rate, blood pressure, sweating, digestion, and speaking, to name a few.
Interestingly, the management and processing of emotions also happen via the vagus nerve. This takes place between the heart, gut, and brain. This explains why we often have a strong “gut reaction” to intense mental and emotional states.
The vagus nerve is known to balance the nervous system by promoting a relaxation response. When stimulated, the vagus nerve can help with, among other things, mood, calmness, digestion, and sexual arousal.
You’re probably also familiar with the “fight or flight response.” This refers to the physiological reaction your body can have to perceived threats or attacks. It’s urging you to either fight and face a threat, or to flee from it.
Your ever-vigilant sympathetic nervous system revs up and releases adrenaline and the stress hormone cortisol into your body during this process.
But then, the vagus nerve tells your body to relax by releasing acetylcholine to balance things out. Think of the vagus nerve as a fiber optic cable sending back instructions to release enzymes and proteins to calm you down.
What is vagus nerve stimulation?
Using the right technology, you can now trigger this calming response with vagus nerve stimulation.
While it’s become even more popular in recent years, vagus nerve stimulation has been utilized and studied for decades. Practices like meditation, yoga, chanting, and mindfulness all provide indirect stimulation to the vagus nerve, primarily through deep breathing.
There are also more invasive methods known as direct vagus nerve stimulation that involve implanting a surgical device that sends electrical signals to an electrode wrapped around the left vagus nerve inside the neck. These devices are utilized for specific medical conditions like epilepsy and depression that are otherwise difficult to treat using conventional medicine.
But there’s great news for those who want to experience the many benefits of vagus nerve stimulation (which we’ll get to shortly) in a non-invasive and safe way known as transcutaneous VNS or tVNS.
Scientists are focusing on the benefits of ear-based tVNS and its potential to maintain a healthy balance in the nervous system and, to the extent possible, mitigating the effects of chronic conditions. tVNS can be applied by the user and does not require surgery or other procedures.
What are the benefits of vagus nerve stimulation?
As you can imagine, based on the important functions of the vagus nerve, there are significant benefits to stimulating it.
Researchers are discovering that the vagus nerve has a significant impact on the symptoms of a variety of disorders. Evidence shows that stimulating the vagus nerve can reduce the symptoms associated with depression and the effects of anxiety.
As for transcutaneous VNS, it has been successfully studied in numerous individuals for a variety of purposes. These include improving mood, sleep, focus and cognition, and athletic performance recovery.
Take a look at this video to learn more about vagus nerve stimulation.
At-home vagus nerve stimulation

Frost & Sullivan Commends Omron Healthcare's Creation of its New Heat Pain Pro™ TENS Unit, the First Device on the Market that Combines Both Heat and Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS)
Patients use the Heat Pain Pro TENS Unit, an OTC at home medical device, to manage acute muscle and joint pain
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Sept. 20, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Based on its recent analysis of the home pain management industry, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Omron Healthcare, Inc. with the 2017 North America New Product Innovation Award. In line with the growing awareness of the opioid epidemic, Omron Healthcare, Inc. (Omron) created its new Heat Pain Pro TENS Unit—the first device on the market that combines TENS technology and heat -- a combination used by physical therapists to maximize therapy effectiveness. The innovative product has multiple modes and intensity levels, empowering users to tailor their pain relief based on their specific needs.
Omron's advanced Heat Pain Pro TENS Unit integrates a heating component because it aids in pain management and end users understand its effectiveness. Furthermore, by providing heat and TENS in a single unit, customers do not have to purchase multiple solutions to achieve pain relief.
"The increased focus on the opioid epidemic will shift pain management solutions toward a device-centric focus to alleviate opioid dependence. As a result, companies with systems demonstrating effective solutions that minimize opioid dependence are well-positioned for rapid growth," said Swarna Sundar, Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan.
Omron Healthcare empowers users to personalize their pain relief management through different modes, including:
Two delivery modes—(1) alternating heat and TENS for one minute each, for thirty minutes, or (2) delivering 15 minutes of heat followed by 15 minutes of TENS
Two heat settings—(1) 107° Fahrenheit or (2) 110° Fahrenheit, three massage modes: (1) tap, (2) knead, or (3) rub
Preset modes for six specific body parts—(1) arm, (2) lower back, (3) leg, (4) foot, (5) joint, and (6) shoulder pain
Twenty intensity level settings: steadily increasing the intensity
"The system's overall cost provides long-term value to its customers, considering the system is versatile and easy-to-use, delivers high TENS power for pain relief, and has a long lifespan. Omron plans to conduct a study to demonstrate the savings that users experience leveraging Omron TENS devices and pads compared to the competitive offerings," said Swarna Sundar, Research Analyst at Frost & Sullivan.
Current users experience various levels of pain relief depending on pain levels, pain location, and the frequency and intensity of device use. The accepted use standard of TENS is three times per day, allowing users to relieve their pain throughout the day as needed.
"Millions of Americans suffer from daily pain. Whether they are experiencing back pain, aching knees, joint pain or chronic discomfort, people are looking for safer, more effective pain management options," said Carol Lucarelli, director of marketing and product development for Omron Healthcare, Inc. "Increased awareness of the potential dangers of opioids and prescription pain killers is driving more consumer interest in pain management options. The Omron HEAT Pain Pro is a safe, effective, accessible drug-free choice."
Each year, Frost & Sullivan presents this recognition to the company that leverages competitive intelligence to successfully execute its corporate strategy, resulting in stronger market share, competitive brand positioning, and customer satisfaction.
Frost & Sullivan Best Practices awards recognize companies in a variety of regional and global markets for demonstrating outstanding achievement and superior performance in areas such as leadership, technological innovation, customer service, and strategic product development. Industry analysts compare market participants and measure performance through in-depth interviews, analysis, and extensive secondary research to identify best practices in the industry.

Quote
'I asked him how he thought he could help me. He wrote that just lately he'd been experimenting with transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, TENS for short. He said the idea of using electricity to stimulate damaged nerves went back thousands of years, that it was invented by some old Roman --' A dusty door far back in my memory opened. 'An old Roman named Scribonius. He discovered that if a guy with a bad leg stepped on an electric eel, the pain sometimes went away. And that "just lately" stuff was crap, Hugh. Your Rev was playing around with TENS before it was officially invented.' He stared at me, eyebrows up. 'Go on,' I said. 'Okay, but we'll come back to this, right?'

Benji bought me a taser gun for my uterus.
I know this doesn’t sound like something he deserves to be praised for, but consider this: it could possibly be THE happier alternative to spending a considerable amount of time each month in either a drugged haze, or dragging myself in a fetal position along the pavement, by my teeth. To be honest I don’t mind the drugged haze, but it gets in the way of the whole Safe Motorcycling business.
Now there’s plenty to celebrate about being female, but the inconveniences of the menstrual cycle don’t count for any of it. “Inconvenience” is actually putting it mildly. My sentiments run more along the lines of “FUCK WHY THE GAHMEN START EXCAVATING FOR THE NEXT MRT LINE IN MY UTERUS”. I’m not alone in my misery, seeing as how medical professionals report that up to 70% of women grit their teeth through Leak Week cramps.
So when the great worldwideweb hollers that someone’s invented a thing called Livia which promises to be THE OFF SWITCH TO YOUR (girlfriend’s) CRAMPS, you throw money at them and wait for a miracle to arrive in the mail.
This, precisely:
Source
Okay, Livia isn’t radical technology by any means. It’s actually a TENS unit - Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation - which uses electrical currents to disrupt the pain signals to your brain. Kind of like a roadblock on the highway to hell. A basic TENS unit can be had for less than 100 USD, and they are already a pretty common prescription for DIY pain management.
Source
Figuring that the average lady wouldn’t be too keen on strapping on one of these aircon remote controllers, and walking around looking like an unexploded terrorist, the people behind Livia made their device alot more discreet, simple, and supposedly tuned to the exact frequency of your ovaries’ war cry.
Truth: Pretty packaging makes attacking your ladyparts with an electrocution device sound less horrible. That’s probably why Livia costs 149 USD, from here.
How do you use it?
I wish my tyre repair kit was this ridiculously easy to use. In fact, the first time I deployed Livia was by the sidewalk, struggling with my laptop and baptised in a haze of cigarette ash and the curious side-eye of squatter ah peks. It wasn’t a disaster. The sticky sides of the electrode pads go on your lower abdomen, about a palm’s width apart. There are just 3 buttons to concern yourself with: the on-off switch, the power-up, and the power-down. Note: this tiny little thing packs a surprising punch. I discovered this very noisily on a public escalator, when I got too ambitious with the power-up. Trust me, go easy on that shit.
(try explaining to mom that this isn’t some fancy treatment for her eyebags.)
So, did it work?
Just like with experimental cooking, I took this on with cautious optimism. I had my usual industrial-strength painkillers on standby, because my faith in delicate pastel-coloured objects sold on the faceless Internet is weak, WEAK.
But hey, in the time taken for me to inhale half a bowl of soupy noodles (probably 20min, but feels like 2 hours when your womb is trying to devour your wretched soul), the pain had dulled enormously.
No fucking way, I thought, and then proceeded to be functional enough to get the groceries, walk unassisted back to my bike, and get home without needing to be horizontal at all.
(me, looking less like an amoeba, and more like a proud ambulatory product of evolution. pity the Livia doesn’t zap away abit of tummy wiggle while it’s there.)
When I went to bed, it was with a comforting purr on my belly. Happily, I made it through the night without accidentally hitting the power-up and electroshocking my reproductive system onto the ceiling. But I did have to wake up once and pop a light painkiller.
So there you have it - Livia isn’t a complete miracle worker, but it’s likely to slash your reliance on the heavy drugs. For girls who don’t have it as bad, it could probably be the solid end-all to your woes.
Downsides:
1) You can’t wear this thing into the bathtub, nor into the swimming pool (yes, you can swim, and climb mountains, and do awesome shit even on your period, if you use a lunette). But I’m happy to report that in the brief interlude it took for an unhurried shower, my brain’s pain processors hadn’t unscrambled themselves. Score!
2) The user’s manual firmly admonishes against using Livia while it’s charging. Each juice-up promises to deliver 15 hours of painlessness, but then that sounds like a 15-hour countdown to being pulled off life support.
3) Can you build up a tolerance to being zapped? Livia’s official website says no, but what if one day I need to hug an MRT track just to slap my pain receptors into submission?
4) Livia’s not cheap. But then, neither are the painkillers that work. Boyfriends, husbands, lovers and partners - take a leaf from Benji’s playbook and make a gift of this; it’s yonks more useful than a manicured vegetable, and those roses don’t even taste good, okay?
Besides, hey, women’s problems are the world’s problems.

7 of the Most Effective Biohacks for Stress Relief
You can’t go far without hearing the word “hacking” in today’s world. You’ve heard of computer hacking. You’ve heard of election hacking. But what about biohacking? Unlike your traditional computer hacking, biohacks entail the use of biology and science to upgrade and improve your mind and body.
What are biohacks?
Biohacks serve many purposes. Many people have found ways to use biology to their advantage to improve their sleep, mood, stress levels, and wellness.
Biohacking is also called DIY biology, and this term refers to a variety of ways you can “manipulate” your brain and body to perform at their best.
Now, we know you’re wondering what some of these biohacks are.
Here are just a few common examples:
Intermittent fasting
Bluelight blocking
Increasing vitamin D levels
Red light therapy
The best stress-relieving biohacks
But for today’s blog, we’re going to focus on the best biohacks for stress relief. There are some simple but powerful ways you can improve your life and your wellbeing by minimizing stress levels and the toll they take on your body.
Virtually every person on the planet deals with stress of one kind or another throughout their life. Most of us regularly encounter stressful situations of varying degrees, not to mention the stress of a traumatic event.
Whether you experience acute stress or long-term chronic stress, stress affects the body and mind in several ways. From an increased likelihood of heart disease, problems sleeping, weight loss or gain, and mental health problems, stress can cause significant and lasting damage. It’s no wonder we’re all on the lookout for ways to lower our stress levels.
Here are 7 biohacks to help you manage your stress.
1. Get outside
Are you feeling particularly moody or stressed out? There are studies that show spending time outside can help!
Here are a few examples:
A UK study found when people were physically active in natural outdoor settings instead of “synthetic environments,” they were less angry, tired, and sad.
A 2015 study from the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences found walking in a park reduced blood flow to the part of the brain commonly associated with brooding.
Finally, a famous study found patients healing from gallbladder surgery who looked out on a tree garden as opposed to a brick wall healed, on average, a day faster, needed significantly less pain medication, and had fewer post-surgical complications.
If you needed a reason to spend more time in the great outdoors, you’ve found it!
2. Practice gratitude
Gratitude is one of the easiest and most effective biohacks to reduce stress.
Gratitude begets gratitude. The more time you spend focusing on being grateful for what you have and what is, the more likely you are to continue practicing that gratitude. You’ll gradually start to reap its benefits because you’ve trained your brain to do so.
Among those benefits? Lower stress levels, boosted mood, better sleep, and improved self-esteem, to name a few!
3. Meditation
Meditation has often been a study subject to see how effective it is at reducing stress, boosting your mood, and improving your overall wellbeing.
As it turns out, it’s proven to be an incredibly useful biohacking tool with a range of cognitive and non-cognitive benefits. Take a look at this study that found a meditation practice is associated with increased job satisfaction, job performance, and work engagement.
4. Aromatherapy
What smell do you associate with comfort or pleasure? For some, it’s their grandma’s baking. For others, it might be the smell of the ocean or a particular laundry detergent. These smells tie to positive memories and feelings. And when we smell them, our brain goes back to that happy moment when we first smelled that particular scent.
There are strong correlations between our olfactory center and our emotional and memory centers, each of which is part of the limbic system. This system controls many human behaviors, including obtaining food and self-preservation.
Scent also has a unique and powerful impact on the brain. In fact, smells can actually create feelings and memories in the brain. Preliminary research also shows that aromatherapy can actually alter brain waves and behavior. Not to mention, aromatherapy is known to decrease cortisol (the stress hormone) in the body.
So it’s no wonder there are specific biohacks designed to stimulate it!
For centuries, aromatherapy has been used to positively impact mood and wellbeing. It can be particularly beneficial as a stress reliever if you pick the right scents.
These three scents most commonly associate with stress relief:
Lavender
Frankincense
Peppermint
But not every person experiences scents the same way. It can take some time to find the right scent(s) that have a calming effect on you. Some people prefer to use candles for aromatherapy, while others might use essential oils, bath salts, etc.
Like reading about biohacks for stress relief? You won’t want to miss out on other hacks for dealing with stress and anxiety in this post.
5. Breathwork
Even though it only takes a few seconds, we often forget to take deep breaths. Breathwork is a powerful stress reliever. It’s even called “the body’s built-in stress reliever!”
In 1970, a Harvard researcher named Herbert Benson coined the term “The Relaxation Response.” His scientific research proved that short periods of meditation (with breathing as a focus) could actually alter the body’s stress response.
In his more recent work, his research demonstrates how that same technique can lead to genetic changes. Its future use could even include treating diseases with a stress component.
Several different deep breathing techniques can improve your mood, stress levels, alertness, and more. A few examples include roll breathing, morning breathing, and belly breathing.
6. Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR)
It’s got a fancy name, but ASMR is actually pretty simple.
ASMR can lower your heart rate (and your stress levels!) just by listening to pleasant sounds like tapping, crackling, and whispering. These sounds have the effect of “tickling” your brain by stimulating your scalp and moving down your body.
And all it takes to experience it for yourself is searching “ASMR” on YouTube and finding a track you like!
7. Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS)
The Vagus nerve is the longest nerve of the autonomic nervous system (the system that regulates a variety of body processes that take place without conscious effort). This nerve’s strength is called “vagal tone.” Low vagal tone often links to chronic health conditions, mood problems, inflammation, and even mental health issues.
Interested in diving deeper? Take a look at this study that found low vagal tone associates with impaired post-stress recovery of cardiovascular, endocrine, and immune markers.
But if you have a low vagal tone, what can you do to strengthen it?
There are a few different ways to stimulate the vagus nerve. In this case, we’re focusing on what’s known as ear-based tVNS (transcutaneous VNS) today. The effects of ear-based tVNS are proven in several studies. It can effectively improve mood and stress levels, sleep, focus and cognition, and athletic performance recovery in many people.
Now, how can you experience these effects for yourself? Our favorite way is using Xen by Nuevana technology! This includes our headphones that use electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve to send messages to the brain to generate calming sensations to the body.
Headphones and stress relief?
Yes — that’s right! But not just any headphones will do.
Xen by Nuevana is wellness technology invented by a top cardiac surgeon and backed by science. Xen Headphones connect to a handheld device that generates an electrical current, all controlled by an app on your phone. Xen uses a revolutionary platform to send gentle, calming electrical signals via our patented earbuds, targeting a branch of the vagus nerve in the ear. It then seamlessly syncs vagus nerve stimulation with your music.
And the best part? You can easily integrate it into your daily routine! Experience the benefits of Xen by Neuvana, including promoting balance, relaxation, and stress levels, all while commuting, working at your desk, watching TV, or just hanging out with friends.
