This has been Andrew's reaction so far btw, but Neil is right so 🫢

He frowned. “I think they look nice. What’s wrong with my choices?” Andrew looked at the bland, ugly clothing with contempt. “Everything. I am not letting my daughter wear prison clothes.” Neil rolled his eyes. “Drama queen.” “Let’s hope she doesn’t inherit your taste,” Andrew said, snatching the outfit away and shoving it in the wrong place. He moved on. There were a few cutesy outfits hooked over his fingers. Neil looked down at Josie, who was just blowing spit bubbles with her mouth. He pursed his lips before muttering lowly, "Your daddy's an asshole.” Andrew felt cold all over for a moment before shooting Neil a vicious look. "Shut the fuck up." A nearby mother cut a disapproving look at him. Neil’s face filled with genuine and wary curiosity. "What? You don't like that?" Neil waited for his unforthcoming response before guessing he was correct. "She has to call you something. Preferably, not Andrew. Dad, papa, father…" Andrew marched in another direction, done with him. "Stop talking before you lose your tongue. You’ve annoyed me enough as it is." Neil shrugged. “Too bad. Maybe you shouldn’t have got me pregnant.”

Andrew doubled back and reached over to shove him roughly, careful not to jostle Josie. Neil laughed, retreating to the opposite side of the rack with a smirk.

The hardest part of writing this kid fic has been deciding whether Andrew should be called dad/daddy or papa by their kid.

I had a mini crisis before when I was rereading the series and realized he and Neil predominantly use the words 'father' and 'mother' in convos. And I refused to accept a reality where they make their daughter address them that way, that's where I draw the line.

Neil says mother/father 99% of the time unless he's lying (like to Bee) or speaking to Mary aloud as mom. So Mary was definitely mom, Nathan ??? Who knows.
