#TRAKTIVISTthrowback⠀ ⠀ Every episode on #TRAKTIVISTradio, we highlight an Asian American artist/group that has significantly impacted our musical history. Whether they were front & center in the spotlight or hustled in the background, it is extremely important to respect & appreciate those who have opened up the doors & paved the road for participation & sustainable musical careers as an Asian American. ⠀ ⠀ For Episode 002, we spotlight @foxybrown. She was initially mistaken as “Half Black & Filipino” because of Jay-Z’s verse on “Ain’t No N****,” a song that helped break her into the mainstream. Born Inga DeCarlo Fung Marchand, Foxy Brown is actually a Chinese-Trinidadian American rapper from Brooklyn, New York. Her albums include Ill Na Na in 1996, followed by Chyna Doll in 1999, and Grammy-nominated Broken Silence[6] in 2001. She was also part of the 1996 supergroup The Firm (Nas, Foxy Brown Nature, production by Dr. Dre). When Jay-Z became the new president and CEO of Def Jam Records in 2004, Foxy Brown was signed as one of the first artists on his new roster. ⠀ ⠀ Listen to this throwback on the re-air of TRAKTIVIST RADIO on Dash Radio + Identity Asia this Sunday 11am pst + Monday 3am pst.
