BALITANG PALAKASAN: RST-DB Greywolves of Dumaguete City settle for 2nd Place over Team Tarlac [#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE]
(Prepared by Luz Noceda -- Gravesfield Middle School news intern of Disney XD News)
PASAY, MANILA -- A local private High School basketball team of Royal Star Trading-Don Bosco Greywolves stunned out to defeat against Team Tarlac at the National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) via ShoeMart Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Manila, National Capital Region last Sunday afternoon (March 19th, 2023 -- Manila local time).
Rene G. Quinamot Jr., a former elementary teacher of St. Louis School of Don Bosco (SLSDB) and a current Filipino teacher in 7th Grade of Piapi High School (PHS), who was a 2nd Division of the said private school in local basketball league of NBTC, an avid sports fan turned out to be a basketball coach, regardless of educating some Piapinistas and Don Bosco students combined. OneNETnews cannot independently verify the authenticity in the aforesaid school.
Matthew James Jucom from Sibulan, Negros Oriental selected to NBTC's Division 2: Mythical Five to be joined for an all-star side event according to Sports Interactive Network and Dumaguete Sports Today.
Founded in 2006, who was officially managed by Eric Altamirano before participating with SLSDB and Team Tarlac, a basketball program that identifies and develops outstanding players from both private & public high schools who compete in its basketball tournaments. Per integration of Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP), NBTC made its official grassroots program and was approved in all provincial schools by the Department of Education (DepEd).
Much really unfortunate at the national finals in 2nd Division, the scores between RST-DB and Team Tarlac in 4th quarter are 84 points for Don Bosco Greywolves & 86 points for Team Tarlac. RST-DB ends in 2nd Place, leaving Team Don Bosco-Tarlac wins the NBTC champion per sibling rivalry of a regional private high school basketball team for Don Bosco private high school.
Both Dumagueteños and Negrosanons are in full support with a lone sponsor of Royal Star Trading in a healthiest and friendly competition on both sides. Quinamot returns to work as a 7th Grade Filipino teacher of Piapinista by Monday onwards (March 20th, 2023). Coaches, referees, local government units (LGUs) and the authorities are grateful to the national sports community of Negros Oriental.

Stranger in the Night: Beast of Bray Road
It's something that cannot be, and yet, there it stands. The paradox quickly overwhelms any rational mind.
A quick drubbing of two heavy feet on the pavement behind you, an impossible movement of hairy limbs to one side, and suddenly two lemon eyes fearlessly search your own with uncanny, brazen mockery. You're transfixed, chilled, and completely bewildered. Once those lemon eyes have transfixed you with their cogent stare for a few eternal moments, the creature's head snaps away; fangs glinting, leaving you dazed as its hulking from leaps into the brambles or hurdles a stone fence to drop twenty feet onto a creek bed. After a parting glimpse of matted dark fur, all you want is to be anywhere else. As your foot jams on the accelerator or you stumble into a run, willing your legs to hightail it in the opposite direction, you are desperately grateful to have survived this unholy meeting of strangers in the night.
After the night really is stranger if you live in Walworth County or Jefferson County.
The dark hours, the witching hours, are when the creature dubbed the Beast of Bray Road most often shows itself. This enigmatic "thing," as most witnesses tend to call it, was named after a country lane east of Elkhorn, a small town squarely in the center of Walworth County, where it was seen by the first witnesses to go public. Over the past six decades, it has shocked as many as three dozen area residents with its sudden, sporadic appearances.
The first known sighting was in 1936, when a security watchman at a convent and home for the developmentally disabled in Jefferson County made an unsettling discovery one night as the clock neared midnight. Straining to see in the shadows, Mark Schackelman thought he made out something digging in an old Native American burial mound behind the main building. Thinking it must be a dog, he trained his flashlight on the animal. With a shock, he realized that it was not a dog but a man-size, shaggy creature with pointed ears and three long claws on each hand. Years later, he told his son, Joseph, he considered it to be a "demon from hell."
Other sightings occurred throughout the '60s, '70s, and '80s in Jefferson and Walworth counties, with puzzled and frightened witnesses sometimes calling local police in an effort to find out what exactly they had seen. Unbeknownst to one another, surrounding communities whispered for years about a creature known by the local names Bluff Monster or the Eddy.
The whisperings became public for the first time in December 1991, when rumors began to circulate around Elkhorn. People claimed that a shaggy, manlike wolf-headed creature was haunting the cornfields and woods around Bray Road, a country byway several miles long and lined with farms owned by the same families for decades. Eyewitnesses were calling this creature a werewolf.
Jon Fredrickson, the county's animal control officer, used the "W" word on the manila file folder in which he stored all the queries trickling into his office. One story was from witness Lori Endrizzi, who saw the "manimal" kneeling by the side of the road and holding what looked like roadkill in its paws. Fredrickson speculated that perhaps the witness were saying a "deformed coyote." But Endrizzi insisted that if werewolves existed, this creature would be one.
As other witnesses began to speak up, it became apparent that the hairy phenomenon was not limited to Bray Road. In fact, the sightings went back decades and crossed county lines, meaning either that a reproducing family of such creatures existed or that the "thing" was very long-lived and able to travel great distances.
The witnesses, with one or two exceptions, seemed trustworthy. Most were reluctant, and many felt fear when recalling their encounters. There was no single "type" of witness either. The witnesses were male and female, children and the elderly, white-collar and blue-collar, and local folks as well as those just passing through. Almost all said something like, "I Know what I saw, and nothing is going to change that."
This descriptions were similar: height between five and seven feet; hairy shaggy and often extremely wild; coloration dark brown, sometimes gray or silver streaks or tips. Those who had a good look usually reported the creatures being like a wolf or German shepherd, with pointy ears, although some have claimed the head was apelike. The creature was sometimes seen standing on two feet, other times being on all fours. The most compelling characteristic, however, was its aggressive stare.
One witness, Williams Bay businessman Marvin Kirschnik, who came forward in 2003, was able to corroborate the other sightings with one of his own in 1981. HIs was unusual in that it had happened in broad daylight. Driving along Highway 11 near Bray Road one August afternoon, Kirschnik became aware of a creature staring at him from behind a fallen tree. He pulled over and scrutinized the creature from the window of his van for a good minute, he estimated, as it returned his gaze. Finally, totally unnerved by its stare and by his inability to identify the beast, Kirschnik sped off. But he made a drawing of it as soon as he got home. Its resemblance to the descriptions of other witnesses is remarkable, although Kirschnik's drawing was made then years before the newspaper story broke.
Does the Beast still prowl? Stories keep rolling in. However, most of the recent sightings have been in places other places than Bray Road, which hasn't had one since the early '90s. A woman saw the creature in Washington County in the summer of 2003, and in May 2004, a Madison man saw a strange dog-ape beast prowling a sidewalk about one a.m. in a dimly lit residential area. Some Illinois have also reported seeing it in four different places in recent months.
One woman who regularly saw what she called the Bluff Monster while growing up in southern Jefferson County gave a description that makes the Beast sound more like Bigfoot than Wolfman. There have been other witnesses who felt that the creature bore Yeti-like traits. A professional couple from Kenosha both saw a seven-foot-tall, almost classic Sasquatch-type creature hurl a bridge rail into Honey Lake in eastern Walworth County. Some cryptozoologists-those who study unknown animals-have speculated that the Beast may indeed be a smaller species of Bigfoot.
Of course, there have been sightings of various bipedal canines around the world and elsewhere in the United States, including the Michigan Dog Man flap in the mid-1980s. But the Beast of Bray Road remains unique for the number of sightings and the worldwide attention it has received. As to the true nature of the Beast, probably only time and perhaps a video or a lucky capture will solve the mystery to everyone's satisfaction.

Prologue
The woods whistled with a breeze as Rowan sat in the back of the cop car with her… protector of sorts. His name was Kennedy… or something. She tucked strands of hair behind her ears quickly - a nervous tic she'd never learned to hide.
“Enjoying the trip, Miss?” one of the cops asked in a playful tone, “a fun get away with the novio?” Rowan shifted her thin rimmed glasses up her aristocratically pointed nose.
“It's doctor,” she corrected. “And I'm not on this trip for pleasure and Mister Kennedy is not of any romantic relation to me. We have a professional working relationship. Nothing more.
“Ouch,” the cop driving laughed, “that must hurt, huh?” He asked, meeting gazes with Kennedy in the rear view mirror.
“You get used to it,” Kennedy said. Rowan resumed gazing out the window, taking in the surroundings. Why was she even here? Surely, someone of Kennedy's rapport knew how to do a basic medical examination? She looked back at the manila folder on her lap.
Saving the president's daughter. What a pleasant task.
The car came to a stop and the cops chattered in Spanish. Rowan only caught a few words here and there. She knew enough Spanish to let people know that she barely knew Spanish. She'd taken German - which had come in handy when she'd studied abroad in Germany, but was rendered null when she came back to reside in the states.
The cop stepped out and she sighed, hoping it wouldn't take him forever. She uncrossed and then crossed her legs patiently. She flipped through the file absently - looking for something to engage her.
When the second cop left the car, her gaze flicked up and then back down to the file.
She'd always been like this - relatively disinterested in anything that wasn't a task or some scientific oddity. She was also relatively disinterested in others.
“Stay in the car, Doctor,” Kennedy said after a few moments. She nodded, waving her hand dismissively. She ran her thumb along the edge of the manila folder thoughtfully. Her foot bounced to an unspecified beat as she read diligently through the case.
She looked up when Kennedy didn't return. Of course, she could defy his orders. They were of equal status regarding professional employment. She cracked open the door and looked for the male. She clicked her tongue when he was nowhere within her line of sight.
She opened the door, leaving the file in the backseat. Just in case of emergency, the doctor had been required to go through gun training and received a handgun. Kennedy was meant to be the primary defender, and she liked it much better that way. It wasn't that she was god awful with guns, but the recoil certainly had a way of knocking her ungracefully onto her ass.
“Mister Kennedy?” she called out into the eerily still blackness. Silence answered her. Complete, total silence. That was wrong. In her study of ecosystems, there should be at the very least, the sound of insects. She crept forward, her hands coated in a light film of sweat. She looked at the intimidating sheen of unfiltered moonlight on the leaves that seemed to tremble in fear.
She shuffled forward, her handgun firmly in her palms. It was eerie. Something was definitely wrong. She didn't dare speak, in fear that something would leap out of the bushes and grab her.
She remained silent - until a palm rested on the center of the back and she let out a yelp, whirling and pointing her gun at the assailant. “Doctor Brannon, it's just me,” Kennedy said, raising his hands.
She lowered her handgun. “I could have shot you,” she warned, embarrassment flooding her features.
He gave her a doubtful look, but didn't challenge her. “This place is some sort of infection site,” he said with a grimace.
“Great. And they didn't think to quarantine it,” Rowan grumbled, a few strands of hair falling out of her pristine bun. She let out a huff of irritation. “Though I suppose I'm useful now.” She shifted her glasses up her nose. With the light sheen of sweet on her nose, they'd slipped down her angular face.
“I just wanna get in and get out. The Spanish government should be fine handling this,” said Kennedy. Rowan nodded. In this situation it would be better to find the president's daughter and get the hell out of this place. She nudged her glasses father up her nose until they dug into the bridge.
“I cannot argue with that,” she said with a definitive nod.
“Alright. Stay beside me doctor. And only shoot if you absolutely have to,” he warned with a serious expression. She nodded and looked down at her gun.
Rowan gravitated to Kennedy's right side. Her weakest side was her left side. Why not cut her losses now? She looked around, muscles coiled and ready to spring. She let out a small breath. If she was in a safe zone this place was quarantined, she'd have a field day conjuring up a delicious scientific procedure. Nothing in the heavens seemed to align for her.
“Mister Kennedy,” she gestured to a lookout. He ducked behind it, pulling her with him. She adjusted her jacket with a scowl.
“Must you be so rough?” she mumbled.
He shot her a look but moved to observe the area before them. “Infected village. You look around for a safe entry point and I'll see how much of the locale I can pick off,” the man said. “Any questions?”
“Not that I can think of,” Rowan said thickly. “Thank you, Mister Kennedy.”
“Alright, the Mister bullshit’s gotta go. I think this situation is a first name basis kind of thing,” he said. She remained silent. She had forgotten his name. With a sigh he looked at her.
“It's Leon,” he said. Leon. She'd known it had been something unique.
“Rowan,” she replied.
He nodded. “Alright, Rowan, find a place to meet up and I'll take care of everything else,” he ran off into danger and she let out a low groan.
“I knew this job paid too well,” she muttered as she climbed the hill, looking for a way around. She looked at where all the infected gathered around Leon. A house. They could meet in a house.
She picked the one with the least amount of movable objects - less opportunity to make noise. She opened the window and winced at the squeak. She eased herself in, moving her bangs from her eyes. She coughed at the dust but turned on her flashlight.
She was terrible with a gun, but she could manage a flashlight like no other! In fact, her flashlight skills were quite formidable!
She examined the home, picking up a picture. She looked around, feeling sick in the eerie silence.
The door slammed open and she screamed, during a shot.
“JESUS! ROWAN!” yelped Leon. She lowered her gun and let out a breath.
“Don't scare me like that,” she rasped. He didn't say anything, but he went ahead of her to scout out the rest of the house. She licked her lips and followed him, her flashlight gripped in her palms like a lifeline.
She was at the stairs when a palm wrapped around her throat and her world went dark.

cw: murder, robbery, adult themes, minors dni
sick, sick, sick pt 3
“I thought you knew how to pick locks,” Steve shrugs, watching as Billy carefully unlocks the massive front door.
“I do,” Billy offers as he steps inside, head craning up to case the place. He’s looking for lights. None of them are on. He motions for Steve to follow him up the stairs. Steve closes the door a little too hard, causing Billy to press him against the wood paneling.
“Sorry,” Steve whispers, eyes wide, “Heavy door.”
“You’re a fucking idiot,” Billy hisses, pulling back as he continues up the stairs, idiotic boyfriend at his feet.
Billy leads him to the study, opening the door slowly and then begins his search for the money. While Billy looks, Steve takes in the room. Wonders if the huge desk in the center of the room is where this asshole fucks his boyfriend. However, he’s distracted by that thought when Billy curses. He turns his attention to find Billy pushing papers off the desk and then digging through filing cabinets. Steve walks around the room, looking the Manila envelope he’s heard so much about when he trips over a big metal safe.
“Wouldn’t be in there, would it?” Steve asks as he rubs his tender shin.
Billy groans lowly, plops down on his ass in front of the safe and attempts a few combinations. As Billy keeps failing, Steve keeps his eyes trained on the door. His breath hitches as a tall and fat man opens it.
“Uh, sweetheart?” Steve tries and Billy motions him to shut up as he attempts another code.
“No, really. I… turn around, Billy.”
“For fucks sake, Steve! What?” Billy turns to see Linden standing behind him. “Oh.”

Helm is an intimate, 24-seat restaurant is an expression of Chef Josh Boutwood’s life experiences and culinary training. Designed with a minimalist eye in palettes of black, copper, and grey. Helm’s dining experience centers Josh’s multi-course tasting menu and the one-on- one interaction between the kitchen and the guest.
At Helm, dining becomes theater, an interactive form of culinary performance art.
Our 10-course meal took inspiration from Magellan's voyage to the Philippines. It was a journey that took 1080 days compressed by Boutwood in just two delicious hours over ten mouthwatering bites. In a nutshell, it was an international menu, with each dish composed of flavours and ingredients from a country Magellan visited sewn altogether by the ingenuity of the talented chef.
Ember Manila is a charcoal grill specialty restaurant by Chef Josh Boutwood. Contrary to chef's other concept restaurants where the interior is somewhat masculine, Ember has done the opposite without deviating from its core element: no-frills, uncomplicated, and warm.
This restaurant in Makati has a modern space-like yet chic style, enough to make you feel at home and welcome. The cozy seats along the curved bar allow diners to witness the magic happening in the open kitchen. It also has a curated one-page menu categorized into small plates like tapas, large plates like family sharing dishes, side plates, and sweets to complete the ensemble. Chef Josh loves biodynamic and natural wines which you can order to pair with your meal.
We did not miss the chance to try chef's signature dish, the charcoal-grilled steak, and we loved it for the smoky char flavor and the locked in juiciness of the meat.
Last but not the least, our 3rd Chef Josh Bautwood's restaurant here in Metro Manila, is Test Kitchen in Rockwell. Here, we celebrated my boyfriend's birthday with his mom (read: naks part of the family lol) and had an intimate dinner for three. We've only fancied trying fine dining tasting menus recently, and we learned that these kind of food require diner to slow down and savor the details; they took the time and only ask the same of you (key takeaway from Mark Mylod's The Menu, if you ask me haha)
Downstairs is where all the action is—get your minds out of the gutter—and where you can really see the kitchen’s cogs turning. But upstairs is where true magic takes place, especially if you’re a real nerd about food. The second floor is where they age the meats, ferment the ingredients and store the spices. This is where you can geek out on the fermented fruits and ingredients, house-made garum (fish sauce) and special spices.
We heard that Chef is opening a new restaurant named "The Dandy Lion" in Ayala Triangle Garden, and we are more than excited to try it once it opens its doors to the public.

Five Interesting Nonfiction Books
Malaya: Essays on Freedom by Cinelle Barnes
As an undocumented teenager living in New York, her journey of self-discovery was just beginning. Because she couldn’t get a driver’s license or file taxes, Cinelle worked as a cleaning lady and a nanny and took other odd jobs—and learned to look over her shoulder, hoping she wouldn’t get caught. When she falls in love and marries a white man from the South, Cinelle finds herself trying to adjust to the thorny underbelly of “southern hospitality” while dealing with being a new mother, an immigrant affected by PTSD, and a woman with a brown body in a profoundly white world. From her immigration to the United States, to navigating a broken legal system, to balancing assimilation and a sense of self, Cinelle comes to rely on her resilience and her faith in the human spirit to survive and come of age all over again. Lyrical, emotionally driven, and told through stories both lived and overheard, Cinelle’s intensely personal, yet universal, exploration of race, class, and identity redefines what it means to be a woman—and an American—in a divided country. 2. Lola's House: Filipino Women Living with War by M. Evelina Galang
During World War II more than one thousand Filipinas were kidnapped by the Imperial Japanese Army. Lolas’ House tells the stories of sixteen surviving Filipino “comfort women.”
M. Evelina Galang enters into the lives of the women at Lolas’ House, a community center in metro Manila. She accompanies them to the sites of their abduction and protests with them at the gates of the Japanese embassy. Each woman gives her testimony, and even though the women relive their horror at each telling, they offer their stories so that no woman anywhere should suffer wartime rape and torture.
Lolas’ House is a book of testimony, but it is also a book of witness, of survival, and of the female body. Intensely personal and globally political, it is the legacy of Lolas’ House to the world. (goodreads.com)
3. Empire of Care: Nurses and Migration in Filipino American History by Catherine Ceniza Choy
In western countries, including the United States, foreign-trained nurses constitute a crucial labor supply. Far and away the largest number of these nurses come from the Philippines. Why is it that a developing nation with a comparatively greater need for trained medical professionals sends so many of its nurses to work in wealthier countries? Catherine Ceniza Choy engages this question through an examination of the unique relationship between the professionalization of nursing and the twentieth-century migration of Filipinos to the United States. The first book-length study of the history of Filipino nurses in the United States, Empire of Care brings to the fore the complicated connections among nursing, American colonialism, and the racialization of Filipinos . Choy conducted extensive interviews with Filipino nurses in New York City and spoke with leading Filipino nurses across the United States. She combines their perspectives with various others—including those of Philippine and American government and health officials—to demonstrate how the desire of Filipino nurses to migrate abroad cannot be reduced to economic logic, but must instead be understood as a fundamentally transnational process. She argues that the origins of Filipino nurse migrations do not lie in the Philippines' independence in 1946 or the relaxation of U.S. immigration rules in 1965, but rather in the creation of an Americanized hospital training system during the period of early-twentieth-century colonial rule. Choy challenges celebratory narratives regarding professional migrants’ mobility by analyzing the scapegoating of Filipino nurses during difficult political times, the absence of professional solidarity between Filipino and American nurses, and the exploitation of foreign-trained nurses through temporary work visas. She shows how the culture of American imperialism persists today, continuing to shape the reception of Filipino nurses in the United States. (goodreads.com)
4. Monsoon Mansion by Cinelle Barnes
Told with a lyrical, almost-dreamlike voice as intoxicating as the moonflowers and orchids that inhabit this world, Monsoon Mansion is a harrowing yet triumphant coming-of-age memoir exploring the dark, troubled waters of a family's rise and fall from grace in the Philippines. It would take a young warrior to survive it. Cinelle Barnes was barely three years old when her family moved into Mansion Royale, a stately ten-bedroom home in the Philippines. Filled with her mother's opulent social aspirations and the gloriously excessive evidence of her father's self-made success, it was a girl's storybook playland. But when a monsoon hits, her father leaves, and her mother's terrible lover takes the reins, Cinelle's fantastical childhood turns toward tyranny she could never have imagined. Formerly a home worthy of magazines and lavish parties, Mansion Royale becomes a dangerous shell of the splendid palace it had once been. In this remarkable ode to survival, Cinelle creates something magical out of her truth--underscored by her complicated relationship with her mother. Through a tangle of tragedy and betrayal emerges a revelatory journey of perseverance and strength, of grit and beauty, and of coming to terms with the price of family--and what it takes to grow up. 5. Somewhere in the Middle: A journey to the Philippines in search of roots, belonging, and identity by Deborah Francisco Douglas
Half Filipino but raised in an American household, Deborah Francisco Douglas had always longed to know more about her Filipino heritage. So when a thick government-issued envelope arrived at her door announcing her assignment to the Philippines as a Peace Corps Volunteer, she snatched the opportunity and set out on a journey of self-discovery, travel, and adventure. Arriving in the mountain town of Baguio City, Philippines, she was introduced to a life of obnoxious roosters, bucket baths, and kids shouting her name every time she walked down the street. Despite her attempts to get involved in the community, her desire for belonging and identity did not materialize as quickly as planned. Realizing that “Filipino time” means nothing ever happens in a hurry, Deborah braces for the journey ahead, hoping to find answers, and above all, to find herself. Filled with warmth and humor, Somewhere in the Middle captures the simple joy found in ordinary moments and in the people we share our lives with, shedding new light on what it truly means to find the place where you belong. Whether you’re hoping to unearth your own cultural roots, volunteer abroad, or find your next travel adventure, this memoir offers inspiration for all those yearning to discover who they are and where they belong in the world. himeko juri grew up in-between two countries, japan and the philippines. juri was primarily based in japan, with frequent trips to the philippines to visit extended family, while also participating in what she is most known for pre-debut — beauty and talent pageants. she competed in pageants from age 7 in both countries, with her last competition in 2017, after her 18th birthday. during this period in her life, she not only took up pageantry, but other enriching activities such as vocal lessons, classical piano and ballet. all of which were used to enhance her likeliness to win in pageants. she also took up fashion modeling during her pre-teens, then later delved into editorial during her teen years.
in 2018, juri was originally being signed to weiss x labs, edelweiss' modeling and acting agency, in preparation for her modeling debut in east asia. however, in-between her contract, she was approached with an offer to debut in an idol group. her addition to timeslip would be confirmed mid-2018 despite her mother's disapproval, with just under a year to train with the other girls. juri was the final member to be added to the florettes line-up.
during debut era, juri received a lot of attention for her angelic features. she frequently received backhanded compliments about her visuals alongside her 'spaced out' expressions during her rookie years, with phrases about how her "face makes up for her blank stare." she was often paired with sua due to their contrasting images and similar doll-like faces. additionally, juri's pageantry background has always been a fascination for flowerbuds and the general public, with many pre-debut pictures of juri circulating the internet until present day. as the band's fame steadily inclined, juri became more well-known for her sweetness and incredible fanservice through viral video call clips and fansign images. she is the designated girlfriend/boyfriend stan enabler, and is the member with the highest male fan population. currently, juri is the second most popular member of the group, sharing the place with sua.

#OneNETnewsEXCLUSIVE: Philippine Apple-partner store 'Power Mac Center' opens at Marina Town in Dumaguete
(Written by Rhayniel Saldasal Calimpong / Freelance News Writer, Online Media Reporter and News Presenter of OneNETnews)
DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- The long wait is officially over as the country's premier partner from the American tech giant 'Apple' recently opened the first-ever full Power Mac Center (PMC) store, during newly-opened Filinvest Malls at the Level 1 of Marina Town along Escaño Beach, here in 'Eduardo J. Blanco Street' corner 'Flores Avenue, Brgy. Piapi, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental'.
OneNETnews is the first in its reporting of our exclusive scoop that the new store offers customers easy access to a wide range of Apple devices, accessories and other premium products, and on hand in-store to the public, here in the City of Gentle People on Thursday morning (September 26th, 2024 at 11:25am -- Dumaguete local time).
PMC Director for Marketing and Product Management named Mr. Joey Alvarez say that the new branch of 'Power Mac Store' caters all the Negrosanon people that suits your needs whether if you're a high school or college student like Piapi High School (PHS) and Silliman University (SU), office work individual, online freelancers, or getting it rewarded on your payday. Local enthusiasts are exciting to purchase Apple models and products combined: "Marina Town is uniquely nestled along Dumaguete Bay (Escaño Beach). As the development is redefining the landscape of the city, our store empowers people to personally get acquainted with the latest devices so they can maximize technology and be part of shaping the future of their progressive city", Alvarez noted.
Customers in Dumaguete City are invited to join the celebration by visiting the newly-opened 'PMC Marina Town' to enjoy special opening deals including several promotional sales and discounts covering 13-inch MacBook Air M1, iPad's 9th Generation, AirPods and Apple Pencil's 2nd Generation, 20 watt USB-C type Power Adapter; and a trade-in value when you trade in your current device like Huawei, Vivo and Oppo android phone models.
Online and offline payments can be done in-store, such as fintech e-wallets of GCash and Maya, QR Payments by QRPH, Debit and Credit Cards from physical and digital banks like Rizal Commercial Banking Corporation (RCBC) and Tonik Digital Bank (TDB), straight cash in Philippine Pesos for rich-income individuals (due to price stock exchange imports from America), regular bank cheques, gift cheques and installment plans like GCredit, GLoan, Maya Easy Credit, Home Credit, SPayLater, SLoan & Tonik Loan for low to no income earners with legally required documents & government valid IDs, per the examples of PhilSys from Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) and Driver's License from Land Transportation Office (LTO). All these exclusive deals are only valid for a limited time from Thursday thru Sunday only, between September 26th to 29th.
Established in the late-August 1994, 'Power Mac Center' is a premier Apple premium reseller in the country. The first flagship branch in the mid-90s is located at the ShoeMart Megamall (SM) in 'Mandaluyong, Metro Manila, National Capital Region'. It has grown significantly over the years, now boasting 143 retail branches, service centers and training centers nationwide. As an Apple authorized service provider and Apple premium reseller, PMC offers as mentioned above, with a wide range of Apple products, including iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple TV+ streaming box and accessories. Power banks and headphones are also a plus. They also provide top-notch repair and maintenance services through their Apple-certified technicians.
Apart from newly-opened store in the early weekend, PMC celebrates its 30th Anniversary last month for this year. They are expanded its footprint beyond Metro Manila to regions like Pampanga, Naga, Bohol, Iloilo, Cebu, Isabela, Bukidnon, Butuan, Cagayan de Oro, Zamboanga, and now… Dumaguete! A new campaign event 'Road to 30' with a series of activities and surprises awaits for loyal PMC customers with 'Techpreneur Festival' and 'Creativity Camp' workshops.
To mark its 30th anniversary, PMC launched the "Miles and Milestones: The 30th Anniversary Raffle", offering prizes like a BYD (Build Your Dreams) ATTO 3 electric vehicle, Philippine Airlines' Mabuhay Miles (PAMM) business class trips for 2 to San Francisco, United States of America (U.S.A.); PAMM business class trips for 2 to Osaka, Japan; Apple devices & accessories, 2 winners of PHP150,000 PMC gift certificates (or approximately U$D2,700), and 2 consolation GCs ranging from PHP3,000 to PHP30,000. The 30th anniversary promo of PMC runs from May 31st to December 31st, 2024, as approved by the Department of Trade and Industry - Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (DTI-FTEB).
Recently, Apple launched the iPhone 16 phone model series in America, a week ahead of mall opening here in our city at Marina Town on Friday (September 20th), which are yet to reach the world markets for PMC. Meanwhile, they are now selling iPhone 15s launched last year in late mid-September 2023, and other Apple-related products at the time of our writing.
Today, our news team of OneNETnews learned exclusively that the 'Power Mac Center' has been consistently bringing American tech giant 'Apple' closer to Filipinos anywhere in the country, including right here in Negros Oriental alone, without needing it to buy originally from the source in the Californian state.
PMC Marina Town opens daily from Mondays thru Sundays - 10am to 9pm, while other stores in Negros Island Region (NIR) include 'The Loop' branches at Ayala Malls Capitol Central in South Capital Road, Bacolod City, Negros Occidental; and Robinson's Place in Brgy. Calindagan, this said city and province.
'Power Mac Center' has become a trusted name in the country, known for delivering the complete Apple experience to its customers. It is the best bet to shop responsibly when you own one.
A big special thanks to Power Mac Center in Dumaguete City for witnessing history first in internet TV broadcasting for making this local tech store opening event possible.
This news report is brought to you by Apple: the official premier partner of PMC, and DTX Coffee Mix - Nagakape ka na, naka-detox ka pa!

[The Keihancarl Diaries: September 14, 2024]
Keihancarl here. The weather feels kind of unpredictable, as there’s the possibility of rainfall during the weekend. Well then, I’m heading to the SMX Convention Center for this year’s Manila International Book Fair, the sixth MIBF event I’ve attended since 2017. And of course, if the weather cooperates, there’s a chance I’ll get to visit Ayala Malls Manila Bay for the second time, as well as the Parqal Mall, both located in the nearby Aseana City.
xxxxxxxxxx
I’m going all-black for this weekend. Not that unusual, right? Well, I have to make sure to make the most out of this day so I really have to leave the house early. I'll probably have to deal with traffic along the way, but I guess it's pretty normal nowadays. Anyway, it was still sunny when I left, and (luckily) traffic was light along Commonwealth Avenue, well, except for North Fairview. I managed to reach North Avenue about an hour later.
On the way to North Avenue, I was having a hard time deciding between riding the MRT-3 to Taft (with a short jeepney/bus ride to SM Mall Of Asia) or taking the EDSA Bus Carousel all the way there (and save me the trouble of switching transport later). I ended up taking the MRT anyway.
I load up my Beep card and head inside the train. Looks like there's rain in the Ortigas area, but only for a bit. Well, the weather report says that there’ll be a chance of scattered rainfall throughout the day. I was hoping it wouldn’t rain in the Pasay and Parañaque areas, since I’m planning to visit a couple of malls at the Aseana City after the MIBF.
Reaching MRT Taft Station, I took a short bus ride (EDSA Carousel) to the Mall Of Asia Complex. Oh, and I happened to see the LRT-1 Gen 4 trains while passing by the overpass to the EDSA Bus Carousel. Would love to ride these new trains soon, well, probably on my 34th birthday.
I reached SMX about 10 minutes past twelve. As soon as I got inside, I decided to have a hotdog (on a stick) at one of the stands. Although I’m starting to get hungry, I don’t feel like having lunch just yet… well maybe later.
I decided to check some of the booths on the first floor, including Fully Booked, National Book Store, and the Precious Pages Group (including Black Ink Comics). I bought a copy of The Restaurant Of Many Orders (at 20 percent off) at the Fully Booked booth, and three bargain-priced manga books at the NBS booth.
Heading to the second level, I passed by a couple of booths, Komiket and Tankobonbon. I bought a couple of books at the Komiket booth.
This is the first time since 2019 that the MIBF occupied two floors of the SMX Convention Center, excluding Function Rooms 4 and 5 (which are closed). And yes, this is the first time that I actually had a large haul of books from the event.
National Book Store finally made a comeback to the MIBF for the first time since 2019. Tuttle Publishing, however, was not among the list of exhibitors. The latter is one of the exhibitors I always visited at most of the previous MIBF events. But at least I bought one of the publisher’s books (the manga version of The Restaurant Of Many Orders) at the Fully Booked booth.
It was already 2:00 in the afternoon, but there was a lot of time left so I decided to leave the event (and the Mall Of Asia Complex) to visit Ayala Malls Manila Bay. It’s been more than 4 years since I last visited that mall (exactly a month before the COVID lockdown), but I knew that it was doing well since then. Might as well visit Parqal Mall while I’m there.
It only took me 10 minutes to walk to Parqal Mall, which is actually a strip mall with a large roof above it. The area was breezy when I got there, not to mention that it is close to the bay. Since I didn't have anything to drink since leaving the house, I stopped by The Marketplace Supermarket to buy something to drink (it's just a bottle of C2) and consumed it along the way.
From the Parqal Mall, it took me less than 5 minutes to reach Ayala Malls Manila Bay. I visited several shops inside the mall, including Flying Tiger Copenhagen (probably the Danish version of the Japanese brand Daiso) and Biblio. There was an event by Foot Locker at the mall’s atrium.
I was getting hungry, considering that I didn’t have anything but a hotdog for lunch. I suppose it’s time for Pepper Lunch (after noticing it from the other side of the balcony). Besides, it’s already 3:00 PM and I’m only at the mall’s second level.
I decided on beef pepper rice, which is so far the only item I ordered at Pepper Lunch (I initially thought of trying their salmon pepper rice). I took a moment to write this post while waiting for the food to cool down a bit. The weight of the books I bought at the book fair adds up to the slight feeling of exhaustion, along with the crowd of people at the venue. It was also quite stuffy inside since the air conditioning unit was under maintenance, hence the portable air coolers.
I then continued checking the rest of the upper floors, as well as some of the shops. The Sun Garden on the fifth floor is already open, the last time I was there it was still closed. So far, I believe only Zus Coffee is open.
After checking the rest of the mall, I headed back to the Mall Of Asia Complex and passed by the Neo Chinatown area. It only took me less than fifteen minutes before I reached the SMX Convention Center, though I didn't bother checking the MIBF again. Anyway, it's time to visit the two malls in the complex, starting with the S’Maison Mall. I got inside the mall via the bridgeway from SMX.
I only checked the Fully Booked branch there, which had already relocated to the ground floor from the second floor. Nothing much, considering that I’ve already bought what I wanted at the MIBF. And yes, all of the books are 20 percent off. Also, I didn't bother checking the rest of the shops inside the mall.
I made my way to SM Mall Of Asia using the other bridgeway at the other end of S'Maison. Once I got there, I checked Decathlon first. After that, I immediately head to the esplanade.
Looks like a reclamation project has commenced near the MOA Eye. Some parts of the esplanade were cordoned off as well. Also, I’m not sure when these lamp posts were installed, but they sure brightened up the area.
From the esplanade, I made my way to the other side of the mall, the part near The Galeon. I then checked some of the shops inside.
Feeling parched, I decided to have a drink from ChaTraMue, at the MOA Food Hall. I ordered a plum red tea, with konjac jelly. The drink was kind of sour and salty at the same time, like kiamoy (dried sour plums/prunes covered by some orange powder). Is that how the drink is supposed to taste like?
I took a moment to check some of the shops. Nitori is opening soon, as well as a gashapon shop.
I then checked the Sky Park for a while, and Aperitif (cafe/restaurant) is now open. I decided to skip the Fully Booked x Kinokuniya branch at the mall due to time constraints.
Later on, I dropped by IKEA at the MOA Square. I was taking pics of some amazing displays, but the gamer’s room was the most awesome. And the kitchen.
And it’s time to go home. Unfortunately, there were no more UV Express vans to SM Fairview so I’ll have to find another way to get home. I could’ve probably taken the MRT-3 or the EDSA Bus Carousel to North Avenue, but getting a UV Express ride from Trinoma or SM North is quite a hassle, especially if I’ll have to line up for about 15 to 30 minutes. Instead, I took a jeep to the Taft Avenue-Buendia intersection and took the UV Express van from there. Traffic is mostly light, with slight traffic in North Fairview.
I got home before 11:00 PM. That was the first time I’d been out on a mall-hopping trip for more than 13 hours, and my hips and my left shoulder hurt so much from walking too much and my bag’s weight respectively. Despite this, I had a lot of fun at the event, and I’m quite pleased with this trip, even with some minor problems.
xxxxxxxxxx
It sure was a fun weekend, even though I ended up feeling worn out. My all-black outfit sure was kind of ordinary, but it was complimented well with my usual accessories (particularly the black fingerless gloves).
I’m planning another trip for my 34th birthday (it’s less than a month away). When or where it will happen will depend on the situation, but I’m really pushing for it to happen. Manila might be the obvious choice, but I’m considering Ortigas/Greenhills or Alabang as well (the latter two I’ve yet to revisit). Of course, I’m gonna wear all-black on that trip as well.
I suppose this is where I’ll end this post. Until next time! Ciao!
