Day 2 - Traffic Police

I've technically done this last afternoon but haven't coloured them in yet.

The one on the left would be based on Japanese traffic wardens. Considering the examples I found are usually venerable policemen, and I conceptualised a dog as a mascot, I decided to base him on a Tosa Inu! This is because they're usually gentle and stoic, while capable of being fierce and authoritative, considering Tosas are guard dogs.

Now for the right, it's more based on my personal experiences with Malaysian traffic police. Since the traffic police here doesn't exactly have a designated traffic warden position (afaik), the bike patrol would take over for traffic redirection duties. Unlike the Japanese traffic police, they kinda look like the opposite of gentle and stoic, having a more imposing presence on the road than usual. They even sport a pair of Aviators sometimes! I've decided on the tiger as a base because they're usually the symbol of authority here and they're pretty much an animal you don't want to mess with.

Supporting real artists for the win!

That reminds me, last month I got a logo commissioned for the car group I run on Facebook. It was done by the guy who did the People of New Zealand comics.

The Group is for a car that was exclusive to the New Zealand market (and I own one). Based on the 5th generation Galant with a 3.0 Single Overhead Cam V6. They were used as Traffic police cars back when the Traffic police and the regular police were separate. So if you were speeding in the late 80s and early 90s in NZ, you would most likely be ticketed by somebody driving one of these.

Here's a fun commission I completed recently: a logo for my client's nature photography company. This is the same person who commissioned the Two Brothers painting a couple of years back! That was a lovely collaboration, and so was this. I love it when clients come back for another project.

I rarely do logo work, and it can be tricky to settle on a design as there's just so many options. But the commissioner was a great help with his feedback, and we're both very pleased with the end result. For fun, below are the very first sketch ideas, and some of the final contenders.
