the rational part of brain knows I can only afford one horse and at Mo’s grazing there’s only enough spare paddocks for 1 horse (1 horse = 2 paddocks to rotate) so if I wanted two horses I wouldn’t be able to rest a paddock unless I put them both in together but only 1 paddock is big enough to comfortably have 2 horses, so if I got 2 horses I’d have to board one with Mo and the other somewhere else

but the ✨spicy✨ part of my brain is telling me to get both since it’s hard choosing who I want more 👀😬

6/25に立川競輪場バンク走行会に行って来ました。20名ぐらいの参加者は自前のロードバイク、輪行でピストを担いでくる方、車で来る方、競輪学校受験を目指す方、ひらひらのスカートを付けたロード女子など、だれでも参加できる練習会です。愛好家が集まる場所なので、皆さん気さくに和気あいあいとやっています。

1年ぐらいドロップハンドルの自転車に乗っていなかったせいか、お店から自走してる時も、歩道の段差など後輪を持ち上げたつもりがちょっと足りなかったり「やっぱりたまに乗らないと感覚が全然違うなー慎重に行こう」危なっかしいと思ったので、フラットぺダルと靴を持参していきました。

初めてのバンク走行会。よくTVなどでレポーターが体験しているのを見ますが、さぞかし難しいのだろうと思っていました、さすがに初めの数周は揺れたりしながら走っていましたが上級者の方と走らせてもらいコツがつかめました。

バンクは部分は意外と高低差がありそれを利用して加速したりできます。また、止まってると無風状態でも、この日はかすかに南風。ゴールラインは結構な向かい風に感じました。周回練習をして、プロ選手がタイム計測をしてくれます。

せっかくなのでハロン（２００ｍを助走をつけてタイムを競う競技）から発走機でのゼロスタートも２００ｍ、１０００ｍ計測してもらいました。

２００ｍ走り終わった後「スターとうまいね」なんて言われてＢＭＸはゼロスタートが多いのでそれが利いてるのかな？なんて思いながらちょっと休んで１０００ｍ。ちょっと抑えめになんて思って緩めに出たら２コーナー立ち上がりぐらいで「もうきつい」。スタートラインではハッパをかけられながら「もう１週半もあるのか―」そのあとは「とりあえず足を回そう」と思いかなり垂れた感じがして、手がしびれてきて、最後のストレートは体が動かないなりにも踏み切れた？感じでした。ＢＭＸは立ち漕ぎがメインなのでもう少し立ち漕ぎを増やしていれば速かったかな？なんて考えながらも「もう動きません！」

立川のビルの谷間に芝生の生えた自転車乗りの楽園。車を気にせず爆走できるこんなところがお店から２０分のところにあります。

貸出ピスト＆ヘルメット、グローブもあるので自転車を持っていない方でも参加可能です。ぜひ体験してみてください。

いろんな競技をやってみるとそれぞれのすごさを体感できます。

um. I managed a sooubway? I’ve volunteered as a teacher’s aide at a primary school? idk the horses might surprise you if you only know me online but in real life it’s no surprise at all.

7. do you think aliens are real?

well I’m not going to write them off completely

8. can you drive a manual car?

ye boi can drive anything you like

9. what’s your guilty pleasure?

having friends in every clique at work and collecting the gossip from every side on the daily

10. tattoos?

they’re cool but they’re not my thing

I don’t like colours by themselves

12. things people do that drive you crazy?

I share one of our work areas at work with another guy and everything about the way he leaves it drives me NUTS but technically it’s clean so I can’t complain. like, he leaves all the gates on the machine we use open, I picked up five of his water bottles and three of his work lists and threw them in the bin for him today, he’s never swept the entire shed in his life so it’s always right on the verge of being too full of sand because of course the sandpit is right next door....he lets my horses get away with blue murder and then wonders why they’re badly behaved... UGH

deep water and like, general climate anxiety

14. favorite childhood sport?

mmmmmm does horse riding count

I played netball for a while and I did actually really like it but it was too bitchy and competitive in the end so I stopped. and I always liked a bit of badminton, I ended up basically coaching the lower badminton grades in high school so I guess that was a bit of a side passion that I never went chasing

15. do you talk to yourself?

yes but I spend even more time talking to whatever horse I happen to be holding

16. what movie do you adore?

howl’s moving castle (or any of the studio ghibli films really) or singing in the rain. they’re my happy place.

17. do you like doing puzzles?

yesssss but I haven’t really done any kind of puzzles recently. I don’t like it when I can’t succeed though, I spend too much of my time trying to beat down brick walls already without doing it for fun too.

18. favorite kind of music?

like any subgenre of pop or indie is my main choice (hozier and imagine dragons are my go-tos when I don’t know what to listen to), but I can listen to anything. I was raised on the like, australian rock and country (and bush ballad) classics so they’ve always got a special place in my heart.

19. tea or coffee?

I hate milk and hot drinks okay

20. the first thing you remember you wanted to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be ‘something with horses’ but I was too young to understand what that actually meant lmao, I remember I really wanted to breed horses but now that I know the veterinary side of that I’m so not interested anymore lol. I know I decided I wanted to write books at 5 years old and I’m still holding on to that one so maybe that was my first thing?

other than that, I started watching horse racing on TV somewhere in there and I ended up in that industry so. yay for following your dreams I guess.

Mijn oma vindt heel wat liederen leuk, maar dit nummer blinkt er toch wel uit voor haar. Ze heeft het nummer: ‘Ik heb eerbied voor jouw grijze haren’ gekozen van Bobbejaan Schoepen. 

Het lied is uitgebracht in het jaar 1960 en heeft in de Hitparade maximaal plaats 10 behaalt. Ook is het lied een paar keer gecoverd geweest door Vlaamse, Nederlandse en zelfs Duitse zangers.

Bobbejaan, de zanger en componist van dit lied, heet eigenlijk niet Bobbejaan Schoepen, maar Modest Schoepen. Hij was ook de oprichter van het Belgische pretpark Bobbejaanland, wat begon met een zwemvijver en een podium waar Bobbejaan optrad. En uiteindelijk geëvolueerd was tot een pretpark met verschillende achtbanen, trackrides en flatrides. Bobbejaan werd geboren in Boom in het jaar 1925 en stierf in Turnhout in 2010.

Mijn oma vindt dit een belangrijk lied omdat dit haar doet terugdenken aan haar reeds overleden man die het met zijn beste vriend bracht tijdens hun optredens in het bejaardentehuis.
