AO3 WRAPPED!
Tumblr media
(Could not pick a favourite, sorry XD)
And under the cut, I'll include my "Ficlist", of stuff that I wrote/posted this year! In order of popularity (so called) because that's how Spotify does it.
Chapter Two: Happy Reapers (OTGW) - finished the second part of my Guidesman AU! I believe I wrote two chapters this year, the last of which was just in November... which was pretty good timing, what with the ten year anniversary and all.
Something I enjoyed about it: apart from the obvious (being both OTGW and Woodsman centric), I really loved delving into Pottsfield more! It is such a Place, you guys. Such a Place.
The Pilgrim-Apprentice (OTGW) - technically an AU-Gust prompt, but took on a life of its own! A combination of OTGW and Sorceror's Apprentice (that movie with Wizard Nicholas Cage), and a really fun one. Wrote two chapters of that this year too!
Something I enjoyed about it: I honestly liked writing an OP version of Adelaide? She's super creepy, and her powers are cool, and I liked making her a foil for the Woodsman as well as Beatrice (though Beatrice hasn't shown up yet).
Be Careful, Cousin (AIO) - an AU where Bernard Walton gets involved with the Novacom saga! Only wrote one chapter of this, but it was a long time coming.
Something I enjoyed about it: well, personally, I always like getting to write Bernard and Dent interacting, because I maybe accidentally got myself invested even though they were in like two scenes together. But I liked the interactions with the kids too. They were more in-depth than I expected.
Book One: The Search for the Fireflower (TTS, original) - my Tangled AU! Actually, this one probably got the most attention from me over the course of the year, because I wrote three whole chapters and completed the book!
Something I enjoyed about it: Oh gosh, where do I start? I love the wintry vibe throughout, and the way these randomly specific characters worked so well to weave that in. Also, I loved getting to actually write some of these characters for the first time? Like, I never would've known as much about them as I do now if I didn't write them here. (Also, returning to some folks from earlier in the book was cool!)
Collect the Moments (OTGW) - started my fic for the Woodsman and his wife! Only one chapter so far, but it was cute.
Something I enjoyed about it: I think that first moment, where Cordelia "falls in like" so to speak, is really sweet. I just like Cordelia. (Also, her friends were unexpectedly fun?)
The Prince's Bride (aka Not A Kissing Book) - an AU-Gust prompt that I ended up really, really loving?? Just one chapter as well, but a bit longer than usual.
Something I enjoyed about it: *VIBRATES* I LOVED WRITING INIGO AND BUTTERCUP TALKING. Like, I enjoyed the unique style that this one took on in itself, but their interactions were so cool to write, you have no idea. And the twist was fun. ;)
The Ones Who Stayed (Psych) - a first attempt at Psych fanfic! Specifically connected to Scary Sherry, because that one hit me really hard for some reason. Three chapters, but all posted at the same time.
Something I enjoyed about it: this one ended up slightly more intense than most of my fics? But I enjoyed it. Especially the Henry chapter, because he is a good guy and I liked giving him a couple heroic moments (in more than one way). Also accidentally turned Shawn and Gus into Jim and Will, dang it (if you know you know). And the girls were cool.
O'er the Garden Wall: A Shakespearean Translation - started this one too! I only wrote the prologue, but it was fun! And I have more in the works for next year...
Something I enjoyed about it: I love Shakespeare, and it's always fun trying to translate other stories into his particular language. I especially liked working in all the references to both plays and OTGW songs.
The Ghostwriter (Sarah & Duck) - another AU-Gust! A Ghost AU, except I really tried to not make it angsty? When we get there, the end result is supposed to be wonder and delight, but we're only 1/4 of the way in, lol
Something I enjoyed about it: I guess I enjoyed writing Sarah's parts. Little kids always have a way of talking, and Sarah's is specifically her, if you know what I mean. She got some cute things to do, too.
Coffee from Metanesion (original) - an AU-Gust prompt, except it ended up being really weird? Like, Coffeeshop AU for my mind palace two years ago kinda weird?
Something I enjoyed about it: well, this AU was mostly a vehicle for me to explore a few extra-canonical interactions, which were fun to put into that particular setting. Also, hi @claramurphyqueenoffandoms!
The Call of the Wild Hunt (original) - another AU-Gust prompt that turned out really weird. They have a tendency to do that. This one, however, is for Lina and the Locust and has two published chapters (and also the fourth one lol)
Something I enjoyed about it: I liked reworking the opening events of the book for a different situation, and I think some of the images I came up with were cool.
I also uploaded all my OC-Tober projects from 2021 (including a Gravity Falls AU for a friend + a song for an adaptation of Father Brown) and the first few chapters of Lina and the Locust! Since I didn't write any of those this year, though, I figured I'd just mention them.
Template is by @spicedrobot if you want to give it a try!

"FOOL!"
OC-Tober Day 21: Hero Turned Villain. Y'all voted for "Hero Canonically Turned Villain", so here is a certain spirit named Azarias.
He's technically from a prequel to one of my books, but the main place you can find him is in my Tangled AU (featuring all of my OCs, and which I literally made a sideblog for). Azarias and his friend Wayland are sent to warn the king of what taking the magical flower will do.
The king doesn't listen.
And in his rage, Azarias lets something else take over him. Something he's resisted for a long time.
This OC-Tober challenge brought to you by @katiethedane12! I should be posting the few other prompts I finished in the next couple days.

And here's a sketch of Melisande, because I wanted to figure out her adventuring outfit!
It's definitely taking from Cassandra in a couple respects, of course. But Melisande's style is also very different from Cassandra's, mainly because I don't think she would ever willingly wear pants. The result? An adventuring dress!
She has boots, of course, plus a pouch and a small dagger (just in case). The pouch probably has some of her herbs and such, like a first aid kit. She also has a cloak, which for reasons unspecified is definitely dark blue. Blue is kinda just her color.
(Might do her hair differently? I don't know. We'll see.)
(Edit: there's now a colored version!)

🖊 Wayland
Wow, this is actually perfect timing, because I just finished Book 1 of the AU the other day!
Okay, so Wayland is really cool. In fact, he used to not even be in his own story - just in the AU, as the medieval version of an actual character/the Quirin to Azarias' Hector - but I liked him so much I put him in one anyway! The same one as Azarias, actually.
But that's enough backstory. Now, on to the actual character!
In writing Wayland, I've noticed that he's... well, a little at odds with himself. He's a peacemaker who must act as a soldier. A father at heart who cannot find a home. A faithful friend who finds he must take up his sword against those he cares about.
And he hates that! He WANTS to find peace, he WANTS to have a family, he WANTS to keep his friends. But the wars he must wage keep him from doing that. He can make peace for others, but never for himself. And it seems like everyone he tries to hold in his heart is eventually lost, either to their enemies or to themselves.
And that's only the first book! I have a whole bunch more story mapped out for this AU, and, well, he gets it pretty rough before the end of the whole thing.
But... he will find it. I think Wayland will find the peace he's looking for. I think he'll find the home he's longing for. And I think he'll find the friends that won't go away... or that come back in the end.
I really like this guy.

This here. This is the AU. Because I accidentally packed a lot of emotional devastation in this thing, but also. The whole concept is some of the most ridiculous nonsense I've ever come up with, when you look at the whole thing.
As far as what's written? Chapter 7 is kind of the sharpest example of it, I think. Because that's how you get both the Box and Dork-a-Dust within pages of each other.
Also, as shown in the previous post, Book One is much more of the former, whereas Book Two is very much the latter. It's all in the narrators.
I have realized that the perfect form of media must have a delicate balance between absolutely heart wrenching pure emotional devastation and the most ridiculous nonsense you have ever seen in your whole life

Weird writer things:
When you reread an old piece and realize it has the exact same vibe as your favourite show, which you didn't know existed at the time you wrote it.

Kingdom of Othrys Masterlist!
Well, if you've happened upon this odd little blog, you'll probably need to know what you're getting into before you delve in.
Essentially, what we have here is an AU of Tangled. Movie, show, all of it. In theory, it follows the same general plot as Tangled. The central difference, however, is that all the characters (and a good bit of the worldbuilding) are from my stories.
Of which there are way too many.
I know it's extremely random and niche, but I've been having fun with it, and so has my sister. So I'm gonna keep at it for the time being.
Though there are numerous side characters, the main people we follow are the cheery monster prince Naphtali, his clever best friend Baron (ex magic thief), and the rather solemn handmaiden Melisande. They tell the ghostly, wintry tale from its beginning to... well, hopefully the end. Eventually.
Now then, if that sounds interesting to you, allow me to show you how to find your way around! As your map, here is the table of contents, with all links in place (the chapter links go to the individual Tumblr posts).
Book 1: The Search for the Fireflower (also on AO3!)
Writing the Story
Trusting to Fairy Tales
The Two Heralds
Dire Warnings
The Impossible Blossom
Seeing the Lights
Frey
The Lighthouse
Workings of a Witch
Go Back
Wayland and the Winter Child
The Hope
Obviously, this will be updated as I continue to write more and more.
Anyways, welcome to the Kingdom of Othrys! I hope you find something worthwhile!

And here's my Valentine's Day post! I've sketched A Kiss for Them!
This was actually requested by one of my sisters (maybe two), who wanted me to draw Prometheus and Melisande kissing, and decided it should be the AU version. So here it is! Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm wavering, because part of me wants to keep doing OTGW stuff and write more of those fics, but part of me also wants to work on my Tangled AU, which is super wintery and more in the season, and which is also fun to write. It's like I'm toeing the borders between autumn and winter, and I don't know which side to land on.

See, the problem is, I have all these stories and characters, and I weave them into the AU in all these fun ways, simply because I can, but then Cool Side Character 3 never shows up again despite having had a whole chapter fleshing them out.

A sketch of Naphtali, enjoying a snowfall from the tower. Which I'm actually going to have be a lighthouse now, because I have a lighthouse in a story, and it sounds cool.
