Well, you asked, so I'll pick some bones. First, with @toysoldieralan's words:

I fail to see not just why this would be a fair assumption to make, but how this could be the case at all: don't octopi resist being handled by aquarium handlers in ways they are uncomfortable with or that imply events that displease them? Is the argument that the resistance we see may be less than what they would display in the wild and we'd have no way to know if compliance on their part was genuine or just fell in this grey area? Even then, I do not think we have reasons to believe octopi in captivity would go as far as to actively comply with things they would resist in the wild.

And now, onto how you (as in @pyrrhiccomedy) mentioned the prerequisite of them

understanding what is being offered on an intellectual level and not purely as a matter of rote animal instinct,

which I feel conflates instincts with reflexes. Fortunately, we are animals, so we can personally verify that instincts aren't a sort of separate entity governing our body irrespective of our wishes, but merely any sort of core motivating factor that doesn't ultimately stem from rational thought. Our own sexual attraction is no less of an instinct than other animals' (or we'd know better than experiencing it when looking at lines on a screen, wouldn't we), and we don't for a second think of questioning the morality of that ("Do you want to have sex with me, or are your instincts just making you do it?" is not really a sentence that we consider to make sense*), nor really of any of the myriad of things that animals indulge in for things that we could easily trace back to instincts ("But is it okay to take my dog out for a walk when my dog doesn't really want to go for a walk and it's just his instincts telling him he does?" is universally understood to be a deranged sentence).

Of course, you could ask "But what if the animal in question has an instinctive drive that clashes with the best course of action indicated by rational thought and they do not have the self-control to go with the latter?", but I find that question kind of moot. After all, if the supposed superior intellect sees reason to believe they ought to refuse, they shouldn't make the offer altogether, and if they don't... well, it's not like you should interface with their logic instead of or in addition to their wants. It's one brain outputting one decision. If you're not going to respect their final answer, what even is the point in looking to get it in the first place? If you don't care what their answer is you are not looking for their consent.

If in turn I may ask a question back for you to freely ignore, what are the factors that separate this from bestiality in your mind, or more specifically what are the factors that make this concept acceptable and bestiality not so? I'm curious because the language barrier was brought up and we know a lot more about how the animals commonly involved in bestiality communicate and how to communicate with them than we do about either when it comes to octopi, and what those factors are in your mind would be a pretty serious assumption that I'd rather not make.

what we really need to drill down on here is whether or not an octopus is intelligent enough to consent to a sexual encounter

and if not how can we change that

yeah, that makes sense! i just wouldve liked to know at least a little bit more about them, y'know? at the very least, it wouldve been nice to know about how they met their pets, or like. literally anything. but ig there's nothing i can do to change what we got!

am i the only one who didnt rly. like. flaks character trailer? i mean, dont get me wrong, i LOVE them, and i'm so excited to play as someone whos nb like me. but i feel like we learned less about them than everyone else? i mean, we got more insight into zanes personality and we learned that his only friends prior to this found family was his digi clone. we learned more about mozes military past and her survivors guilt and her companionship with her iron bear. we learned more about amaras personality and we learned more about how far her fame reaches on her home planet. but with flak, we... learned they like shooting things? and we learned more about the personalities of their pets? i dont know. i wouldve liked to learn more about their past, too. it wouldve been cool to gain more insight into how they met their pets, but i guess all i can do is hope we'll learn more later

i was being hyperbolic i guess but the point remains that he uses a lot of “inspirational” quotes because it’s obvious from his original work he has nothing else to say. plus, again, the aforementioned twisting things around to suit his narrative, which is overwhelmingly intellectually elitist, on top of an underlying classist thread that winds through a lot of his work. most people only see the surface-level “be who you want to be” message and see it as “inspiring” but any amount of analysis reveals some pretty ugly messages. oh, and the racism, can’t forget the racism. or the reliance on shock value.

but sure let’s all be inspired.

When depression hits me I sort of stop being a person. I don't know if that makes sense. I stick to the sideline and do nothing but observe other things and people until I stop actively thinking of myself as something observable. I fade out of my own perseption of reality and become nothing but an observer/analizer for days on end. Then I feel kind of worthless later on but I never get upset with myself because I am, after all, "just an observer". Later on, when I start feeling better, I always feel like my pain was unjustified because the memories don't feel real enough. Being a spectre is strange in memory.

Do you have any info on pre-WW2 Yugoslavia? Both my grandparents lived there. Also any information on what it was like as the war began and during it. I have stories from my grandma and I'm curious to hear what the history books say happened.

Sorry, not really. I mean, I could probably find you some titles, but I’d be running the same Google searches you would. For during-the-war stuff, the best I’ve got is the book I recced before: War And Occupation In Yugoslavia, by Jozo Tomasevich.

i’m pathetically devoted to pixar, so from finding nemo on (minus cars, because i didn’t have taste back then), i’ve seen all of them in theaters!

...except this year. theater shut down before i could see onward. i eventually did watch it, but it felt so wrong...my record’s been shattered

hm tbh i get really get tired of the general “do you have any advice” questions.. usually whatever theyre asking is too general for me to answer and it doesnt help me or them.....plus i have a faq that has a TON of information already.. id like to see an ask with someone that went through that.. and then asked me a ? about it... so they could learn more and i could make clarifications

I skipped the dinosaur movie, and I feel like I've missed a few since then... Now I'm going to have to check a list. I WAS super devoted to Pixar when I was younger... I wanted to work for them enough that I started my college experience in Digital Design before... Stuff happened

good dinosaur is worth one watch for the art alone. i mean they’re all worth it, but that one just has predictable written all over it and i’ve really had no desire to watch it again..which is weird for me lol
