Amphibia, Zelda, and the Triforce
I know I’ve already covered how Zelda games and Amphibia go hand in hand, but I seem to have overlooked a very pivotal aspect of the game.
For those of you who don’t know, the Triforce is a pivotal part of all Zelda games. Although the function of the Triforce changes from game to game, save it for the continuation of story from Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess, the basic functionality and legend behind it can be applied to Amphibia in more ways than one.
Facts About the Triforce
The Triforce is depicted as “the golden power” in Hylian text.
It was created by the three goddesses of divine power who ALSO created the entire land of Hyrule
Din, goddess of Power. Red. Associated with earth and fire
Farore, goddess of Courage/Cunningness. Green. Associated with wind and Forest
Nayru. goddess of Wisdom/Love. Blue. Associated with water and time
The Triforce will grant godlike power to anyone who holds all three pieces
When two or more Triforce bearers come together, the Triforce symbol will glow on their wrists
When someone holds two or more pieces of the Triforce, they will transform into a being greater than themselves
If the prophesied chosen bearers of the Triforce bring their pieces together, they can choose to use the godlike power to do what they need to do
The Power section of the Triforce is mostly sought after by Ganon. This piece of the Triforce grants its bearer unlimited mystical power, and is also associated with flame
AND THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION????
In order to claim the complete Triforce, the bearer must have a balance of the three values represented by each of the three pieces of the Triforce: power, wisdom, and courage
Which is why, when Ganon tried to obtain and use the completed Triforce to destroy and rule over Hyrule, the Triforce literally split itself, leaving him with only the piece he values most: the piece of Power. The remaining pieces are sealed in those chosen by destiny (we’ll come back to this later).
Ganon is then finally defeated by Link (who holds the Triforce of Courage) in Twilight Princess, after getting stabbed by the Master Sword (more on this in this post) in one of his previous wounds. After his death, Ganon’s Triforce symbols on his wrist vanish, leaving the Triforce of Power up for grabs.
Basic Comparisons:
Well for starters, it’s obvious who got assigned what gem/Triforce piece
Anne got the Wisdom/Love (heart) gem
Marcy got the Courage/Cunningness (wit) gem
Sasha got the Power (strength) gem
The glow of their eyes can be likened to the glow of the Triforce on the specific bearer’s wrist (perhaps in future episodes, we will see each of the Amph Girls’ eyes glow when they finally come together)
The temples don’t just recharge the gems, they also test the intersection of it all
Marcy needed strength to admit defeat, and heart to realize the priority her friends hold to get through the wit temple
Anne will most likely need strength to face her feelings, and wit to understand them in the heart temple
Sasha will need heart to admit her feelings, and wit to understand them in the strength temple
Marcy’s temple was deep within the forest
Anne’s temple is up in the sky, surrounded by rain clouds
Sasha’s temple is literally just a giant volcano, surrounded by fire
Deeper Comparisons:
We all know Andrias is out for the gems and their power, and while we don’t know his entire plan, I think it’s safe to say that the giant salamander at least wants control over Amphibia. We also know that Andrias has some pretty intense knowledge surrounding the Prophecy and the gems/music box (the guy literally has a giant-ass frog robot in his basement that he called “my lord” for shit sakes-), which leads to some questions.
What’s to say that Andrias hasn’t possessed more than one charged gem at a certain period of time? He’s certainly been around long enough to have known about the gems and their power for a while.
So let’s just say, hypothetically, that Andrias, at one point in time, did hold more than one charged gem. If the Triforce and the gems really act in the same way, what’s to say Andrias wouldn’t have changed into a different being? Perhaps into a giant salamander who “mysTerIouSLy” just happens to be “ the first of his name?
And finally, remember the thing I said earlier about how Ganon wasn’t actually able to use all three Triforce pieces because when it boiled down to it, the Triforce split itself and went back to the original bearers? Yeah, here’s what I’m thinking.
Andrias is going to use the three gems. He’s going to be ‘successful’ for a solid minute, the girls’ power at that point will be drained (cause y’know...their powers just so happen to conveniently drain when they recharge the gems), and the world will seem like it’s ending.
But then...it’ll stop.
Because the gems function like the Triforce, and in order to use all three parts of the Triforce at once, you have to have all three values within yourself. Something that Anne, Marcy, and Sasha all (…some values more deeply buried than others...*cough* Sasha *cough*) have that Andrias doesn’t. Once the gems all split and get returned to their original prophesied owners, it’ll be game over for Andrias.
Which leads me to my final (slightly far-fetched) theory. What if the main reason Andrias is draining the souls of Amphibians and putting them into robots (see this post) isn’t just for functionality. But to try and suck the values out of them.
Think about it. What if Andrias is trying to suck the values out of Amphibians to try to make himself finally able to harness the power of all three gems? Cause after all, you can’t hold a completed Triforce unless you have all three values within yourself.

Ok so I was thinking about Marcy (with my @toxicpsychox of course) and realized something about the timeline.
Marcy brought Anne and Sasha to Amphibia with the hopes that she could buy some time before moving away. But she didn’t intend to keep them there forever. And for the longest time, I was thinking that she accepted Andrias’s proposition out of a deep fear of losing her friends.
And of course she is afraid of it, that’s her main motive. But she isn’t just doing this out of fear, out of selfishness.
She said “I did it for us.” Not that she did it to keep them there. But she did it...partially for Anne.
This analysis by BorkTheMork explains that Anne and Marcy’s communication is largely driven by situations, not choices. In fact, there are only two main events in which the two of them have really chosen to admit something to each other.
And the important thing? In Marcy at the Gates, Anne says this.
“Because I just got you back, okay? And I don’t...I don’t wanna lose you again.”
And in that scene?
“I did it for us.”
She did it for Anne, because Anne said that she didn’t want to lose her.
Look, when Marcy brought Anne to Amphibia, she believed that deep down, Anne didn’t want her. That if her parents moved away, Anne wouldn’t make any effort to stay with her, to keep their friendship and reunite in the future. Therefore, this was temporary at best; it was only a matter of time before Anne found out that she brought them there, and decided to leave.
But then Anne said this. Anne made it clear that her motive was to stay with Marcy. Which was Marcy’s motive, too! That’s the whole reason why she did this. And realizing that Anne wants the same thing, that Anne also would hate to be apart from Marcy...dang. It really seemed like Anne would approve of Marcy’s decision, didn’t it?
Then the two of them had great times together. They grew closer and it really became clear that their friendship could survive any world. But Anne still didn’t want to leave her frog friends, that was made obvious by the events in Day at the Aquarium.
So for Marcy to accept Andrias’s proposition, to trap them in Amphibia forever? It wasn’t just kind to Marcy. It as also kind to Anne.
Think about it. Anne doesn’t want to leave Marcy. Anne doesn’t want to leave the Plantars. If Marcy kept Anne in Amphibia, she could have everything she wanted! So in a way, Anne’s desire to stay with Anne was a sort of permission.
If Anne hadn’t said that to Marcy in the barbariant tunnels, if Anne hadn’t communicated with Marcy, then Marcy probably wouldn’t have accepted Andrias’s proposition. Not if she still believed that Anne would be better off without her.

The Legend of Zelda and Amphibia
I am not much of an intense analyzer (not a public one, at least) but just... bear with me for a moment.
I’m sure everyone has heard of the classic Nintendo franchise, The Legend of Zelda, but did you know that Matt Braly based some of Amphibia off the game? According to his reddit AMA, His favorite game in the franchise (and the one he primarily used to base Amphibia after) just happens to be Breath of the Wild, arguably one of the most complex Zelda games to date.
For this analysis, let’s focus on some of the bigger aspects of the show and how they relate to the Zelda franchise.
There will obviously be Breath of the Wild and Amphibia spoilers below, so don’t come for me lmao
The Master Sword and It’s Power
In any Zelda game, the Master Sword is the best item a player can get. Not only is the sword The Weapon Of Choice™, but it also happens to have different special abilities depending on what game you play. In Zelda: Twilight Princess, for example, the sword cures Link of his curse and grants him the ability to teleport to places he has previously explored. In Breath of the Wild, the master sword grants Link the power to defeat Calamity Ganon, and as the game Wikipedia states, “seal the darkness away” (we’ll talk about this later). Funny enough, the Master Sword also has a delightful blue glow, similar to that of Anne’s sword in the show.
So where does that leave us with Amphibia theories? Well, if Anne’s sword is anything like the Master Sword, it could perhaps be a portion of the key to unlocking the Calamity Box. We also know that in The Prophecy of Amphibia, there are three weapons mentioned, not just one. All three weapons combined could come together to create something like the Master Sword.
Hyrulian Guardians and Newtopian Robots
In Breath of the Wild, there are giant-ass guardians that roam Hyrule. When the people of Hyrule learned that Calamity Ganon would one day return, they set off to create guardians to protect the people of Hyrule. They also created specific guardians called Divine Beasts to protect certain sectors of Hyrule. For many years, the guardians lay dormant. When Calamity Ganon rose from his dark slumber, he used what little power he had to awaken and corrupt both the guardians and the Divine Beasts.
Remember the whole seal the darkness” away bit that the Zelda prophecy states? Yeah, the Amphibia prophecy also talks about sealing away darkness. “Three stars burning bright, come from beyond to expel the night”. My guess is that we’re going to see a robot-awakening, just like we did in Zelda. Once those robots awake, there will be darkness throughout the land, and the three girls will have to expel it.
My guess is that something very similar to the events in Hyrule are about to happen in Amphibia. Since we know that robots of some kind exist in Amphibia, and that some of them are laying dormant (like in the huts Sprig and Anne stumble upon in Fort in the Road). What’s to say that they won’t awake when the Calamity Box finally starts functioning again? Or when Andrias uses the Calamity Box for his plan?
(Funny enough, all of the robot-like huts in Amphibia look like the same exact robotic structures in Breath of the Wild.)
Gems/Triforce Parallels
Everyone knows that in the Temple of Time (arguably one of the coolest and most complex temples in the Legend of Zelda franchise) changes from game to game. Let’s focus on the Temple of Time in Ocarina of Time for a second.
In this Temple of Time, we see that in order to obtain the Master Sword, Link first has to go through a room with three gems of power. These three gems power the Triforce and allow Link to enter the next part of the temple, and ultimately grab the Master Sword.
Now let’s relate this to Amphibia, shall we? In Amphibia, there are three gems of power, just like in Zelda. We also know that the three gems of power in Amphibia are separate colors, with separate powers. In Zelda, this is also the case.
If my theories are correct, and Amphibia does have purposeful Zelda references, then the three Amphibia gems are going to act very similar to that of the Zelda gems. I think we can expect to see the gems all come together to form some sort of ultimate weapon to defeat Andrias. Either that, or they create a power great enough to destroy Andrias, no sword necessary.
Andrias and His Pawns
To wrap this sucker up, let’s talk about Andrias for a hot minute. We all know Andrias is using the girls as pawns to get what he wants, but...why couldn’t Andrias just go through the temples on his own? If he already knows the box’s potential, and already knows about the temples and how to get through them, why couldn’t he just go through himself? It would sure make the process of becoming All Powerful™ a lot easier.
We could chalk it up to laziness, sure. But I’m thinking there’s a greater reason for Andrias’ chess game.
We all know that Anne, Sasha, and Marcy are The™ three people listed in the prophecy; we know that they are the “stars shining bright to ward off the night” or whatever the prophecy says. We also happen to know that all three of the girls have some sort of power. Granted, none of them have realized that they have power, but it’s there.
We saw Anne’s eyes glow, as well as Marcy’s. Assuming that Sasha also has powers (and let’s be real, she absolutely does if the other two have them), we can assume that those powers are going to be used for something.
The real reason Andrias can’t go through the temples on his own and get the power? Anne, Sasha, and Marcy hold the other half of the power to getting in and out of the temples. Just like any Zelda game, you need certain abilities and items to get through the temples and rooms. Without them, the game is unplayable. The temples become impossible to get through, and you would perish.
Since Anne, Sasha, and Marcy hold the other half of the gem’s special abilities, only they can get through the temples. Not Andrias. And my guess is that when the girls step foot into the temples, their powers will be amplified. And they’ll finally fucking realize THAT THEIR EYES GLOW.
Anyways. Matt Braly is a Zelda nerd and I am 78% certain that some of the stuff I listed will play out exactly like a Zelda game. I could be wrong tho, who knows.
(Also, thanks to @pyroclastic727 for helping me organize my thoughts and giving me the confidence booster to post this sucker lol)
