dabi hc that he is not touya, but a nomu made using touta's corpse. like a long-term experiment. the doctor wants to test longevity and how much he can adjust a personality so he makes a child-nomu that can grow and develop in the outside world.

since nomu keep key characteristics from the main host, there is enough to recall being touya, but not enough presence of mind to be touya, so he changes names often enough. dabi seems to be catching on tho/maybe touuya is coming through more with time.

the major fault with this nomu is his body's consistent level of decay and rejection of sofisticated treatment, leading to cruder methods of adhering skin and connective tissue to his body. his quirk undoes the healing and there’s only so long you can continue to slap bloody bandages over open wounds so at one point he says fuck this and just fucking staples on the latest skin onto himself instead of worrying about it anymore

Arms crossed, eyebrow raised, Y/N looked utterly unimpressed.

"Why are you the way that you are?"

They thought they saw the eldest Todoroki tense at their playful jab, but it was gone so quickly they couldn't say for sure.

Sheepishly scratching his head, Touya gave his best apology smile, the one that said 'I'm sorry but also I'm totally messing with you.'

"Sorry... Looks like what I lack in common sense, I make up for in sarcasm. But you still love me, right?"

Now Y/N considered themselves a strong person, but maybe it was the smile, maybe it was the way his voice wavered ever so slightly when he asked, or maybe it was just the fact that they really didn't care about that old shoe... but they held out their arms with a resigned yet loving smile:

"Of course I do."

Touya chuckled and roughly pulled them to his chest.

"Sooo does that mean you're keeping him?"

"You're the worst Dabi."

"What?"

"I said you're the best man! Fuck you for bringing all these cats, you know I'm allergic! I love them! Hate the bastards."

Dabi never thought he'd be grateful for Twice's obnoxious halves arguing... but it effectively stopped his own usually repressed self from taking over any longer. He really had to stop zoning out like that.

"I'm not bringing them, they're just following me."

As if on cue, one of the stray cats jumped on his lap, demanding to be pet.

Dabi went to push him away but ended up lazily stroking his head after deciding it wasn't worth the trouble.

"Ohh they love you! So you're more of a cat person?" Toga chirped, squealing as a kitten hissed and clawed at her arm, drawing some blood.

Abruptly, Dabi stood up, grabbed his coat and walked out, not sparing a glance to any of them.

"Whatever."
