The Blue Hole is one of the most famous dive sites in Dahab. It is located on the eastern part of Sinai a few kilometers north of Dahab; it is a kind of cave, around 130 m deep, accessible from shore. The arch, which connects the Blue Hole to the open sea, starts at around 56 m depth. Enter the water from the beach. It is marked "easy entrance". Cross the hole and leave it through the exit at 7 m. The Blue hole hardly offers corals contrary to the beautiful external wall. The coral growth and its splendid colors are breathtaking. Descend there to your chosen depth. Make sure you stick to a depth well within your ability! On your way back up, search for the rare red anemone in 10 m depth. It is also possible to make an alternative dive just north of the Blue Hole, along the rocky coastal path and enter through a gap in the shoreline rocks. This is done one diver at a time. Divers can then drop down an enclosed chimney in the reef exiting at 30 meters or so onto the sheer wall. The reef is near vertical at this point and as you head south (right shoulder to the reef) you'll come around an outcrop which makes for some fantastic silhouette photographs looking up towards the sunlight. The reef wall is home to lots of clownfish anemones and the blue backdrop makes a great viewing point for trevallies, jacks, barracuda and possibly white-tip and grey reef sharks. As you travel south and ascend you will come to a colorful hard coral slope at around 10 meters, which leads up and over at 6 meters into the blue hole pool. It is best to spend most of the dive on the outside of the reef as the inside pool has little in the way of coral. Use your safety stop to either swim across the pool or around the edge (left shoulder to reef) until you reach the small wooden jetty and exit. Currents can be strong, usually north to south, on the outside of the reef so the northern entry point is often a good option, then drifting down to the pool with the current. Take care not to miss your exit, although if this does happen simply find a safe exit further down the shoreline and be prepared for a walk in full kit. After this fantastic dive, we will take you back to your hotel in Sharm El Sheikh.

Day 8: Egypt Easter Tours, Beach

In the early morning you will move towards the Israeli border, the gate to the so-called ‘Holy Land’. On the shores of the Dead Sea we will make a stop for around 90 minutes; relax or go swimming - the extreme salinity will even allow you to float without any movements. In Jerusalem we will take you to the Mount of Olives. You will enjoy a fantastic panorama view over the Holy City. Then we will start our tour, visiting Jerusalem’s holy sites of Christians, Muslims and Jews. First of all we will show you the Wailing Wall / Western Wall, the last remaining piece of the Great Temple, the most important Jewish sanctuary, a praying and pilgrimage site for Jewish believers who put prayer notes with their wishes and needs into the wall’s cracks. If the Temple Mount will be open to visitors on the day of your visit, you will ascend it to see the Dome of the Rock, one of Islam’s main sanctuaries, built already around 700 AD, and the Al Aqsa Mosque, the third most important mosque in the world (both from the outside). You continue your trip with a walk through the Souk, the Arabic marketplace and then walk along the ‘Via Dolorosa’, Jesus' painful ‘Way of Suffering’; in its end we will arrive at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre / Church of Resurrection, where Jesus is said to have been crucified, buried and finally resurrected. Then we will head to Jesus’ birthplace Bethlehem. You will see the Church of the Nativity, constructed above the Grotto of the Nativity where he is supposed to have been born. Passing by modern Jerusalem we will then head back to the Egyptian border and finally to your hotel in Sharm.

Day 10: Sharm - Optional tour to Colored Canyon

Visita a El Caire

Darrer dia a El Caire. Retrobem l’Essam per la darrera jornada. Primer visita a la Mesquita de Saladí, del segle XIX. Unes làmpades magnífiques il·luminen les cúpules decorades amb detalls daurats. Les finestres tenen vidres de colors. És sobretot una mesquita turística dedicada Al-Màlik an-Nàssir Abu-l-Mudhàffar Salah-ad-Din Yússuf ibn Ayyub (Tikrit, actual Iraq, 1138 - Damasc, 4 de març de 1193), més conegut simplement com a Salah-ad-Din o, catalanitzat, Saladí, un kurd fundador de la dinastia aiúbida, soldà d'Egipte i de Síria. Aquí les vistes sobre El Caire són extraordinàries i es poden distingir les Piràmides. A hores d’ara, tots estem ‘apiramidats’, o sigui, agenollats davant la gosadia de Keops, Kefren i Micerí. ☺️

Trajecte en autocar. Visita del barri copte. Entrem a l ‘Església de Sant Sergi. Els coptes són els cristians d’Egipte, de la branca ortodoxa que defensa la natura única de Déu. A la pràctica, Sant Sergi és una petita basílica de tres naus amb moltes icones exposades a les naus laterals. Hi ha daurats, però lleus, i sobretot, conté la cova on la Sagrada Família es va refugiar durant un mes per fugir de la persecució d’Herodes.

Més tard anem, ja mig groguis, a dinar a un vaixell atracat al marge occidental del Nil. N’hi ha diversos. Hi anem en un grup de tretze catalans que han viscut aquests dies egipcis amb nosaltres. També una parella, ella santanderina, ell, viguès, que malauradament ha sucumbit als constipats i avui no ens acompanya. Ja som una mica amics tots: hem parlat de gats, de vols en paracaiguda, de compres, del parentiu de cadascú, de les meravelles d’Egipte i més. Ah! I de la calor i de la seguretat (capítol a part).

Acabem de dinar prou bé i fem un tour en autocar. Ens assenyalen els edificis més importants, la ciutat que ha crescut al cementiri des de fa molts anys, les esglésies cristianes als barris benestants (moltes més de les esperades, un 20% de la població és cristiana), els hotels de luxe tocant el Nil, les botigues selectes. El guia nostre ens diu que les botigues de llenceria aquí són molt més agosarades que les del món occidental i que les dones egípcies, un cop a casa, són ‘la bomba’. En dubtem una mica veient-les, algunes, cobertes de cap a peus amb els burkes negres. Hi ha zones d’El Caire ben arbrades i cuidades i altres mig asfaltades, brutes, on la misèria i la brutor es donen la mà. Hi ha cinemes i teatres, la primera òpera del continent africà. Però jo veig Orient Pròxim, no Àfrica , tot i que a Aswan es veien moltes banderes de Bob Marley, em semblen sobretot orientals i mediterranis. El menjar: comença sempre amb Mezze variats d’hummus, baba ganoush, tahini, formatge de cabra, verdures envinagrades i picants. De segon, sempre ens han ofert carn (pollastre, bou, la salsitxa de carn picada o kofta) o peix (llobarro del Nil) a la planxa o barbacoa. De postres, un dia baklava, la resta, fruita fresca.

Acabem el tour en autocar on molts ulls esgotats han tancat les parpelles i anem al mercat Al Khalili. Cal que us informi ara que a El Caire, des d’ahir al matí, ens acompanya un securata en trajo marró i amb pistola apenes dissimulada a la butxaca dreta posterior. No somriu. Ens compacta, ens aparta si veu algun perill i, al mercat, intenta dirigir les nostres passes pero el grup és massa gran i tenim ànimes rebels. Ens desfem d’ell com el James Bond. Està per la nostra seguretat, però no ens agrada molt. Ens toca a tots, homes i dones, a l’espatlla. Observa i mira en totes direccions amb l’ull inquiet.

Bé, pero som al mercat tradicional d’El Caire i trobem tots els souvenirs, totes les samarretes habituals. Hi ha joiers i botigues de catifes i làmpades. Assetgen una mica els venedors però res comparat amb els dels entorns dels museus. A les noies ens diuen Shakira (les rossetes) o Sara Montiel, però a ells no els diuen Manolo Escobar ni Chiquito de la Calzada. No és just.

Cau la tarda i fa la temperatura perfecta. Fem les darreres fotografies i retrobem l’Essam que ens esperava a un cafè. Ens recomana el suc de mango. Alguns avui tenim la panxa en rebel·lió.

I aleshores fem la passejada medieval a peu (divina caminada tranquil·la) per zones pausades on els joves es troben per parlar en grup. Alguns fumen, però pocs. Es veu que la marihuana està estenent-se com a tot arreu, però el tràfic es castiga amb la forca. Amb la forca. Com la violació. Som a carrers sense turistes farcits de mesquites medievals il·luminades amb un gust exquisit. No sé quina és més maca però totes donen vint voltes a la de Saladí del matí. Tothom ha sortit a prendre la fresca i la gent ens observa. Hi ha noies jovenetes que es fan fotos amb nosaltres, altres dones occidentals. El somriure permanent al seu llavis pintats plens d’alegria. Un record melancònic de llum taronja i groga, com de mango.

I la cloenda d’Història: de camí cap al restaurant de luxe i vistes privilegiades (‘Citadelle View’) on soparem, ens aturem en autocar a un punt de l’autopista. A una banda, la tribuna on Anwar El Sadat (antic president egipci) va rebre les 36 bales per part d’un militar que conduïa un tanc. Enmig d’una desfilada, un home va aturar-se, va pujar les escales i es va adreçar al seu davant per disparar. Hi va haver altres morts i ferits. El primer impacte va arribar al coll i va matar de manera fulminant el president. El perpetrador del magnicidi va ser detingut i alliberat al cap d’uns anys. Va reaparèixer a primera línia al costat de Bin Laden. Ja és mort.

El més particular de la historia és que Sadat havia deixat dit que volia ser enterrat devora el monument dedicat al Soldat Desconegut, una piràmide moderna i blanca. Aquest monument era i està situat just a l’altra banda de l’autopista on havien instal·lat la tribuna que va presidir. A la fi, la seva mortalla embolicada en un llenç de lli va travessar els carrils renouers de l’autopista per descansar eternament a pocs metres d’allà on va trobar la mort violenta, la fi trista de qui va voler la pau amb els israelians i va signar el Acords de Pau de Camp David. A internet podeu trobar les imatges, tan impactants. Era l’any 1981.

Finalment, festí delicat i preciós amb vistes llunyanes d’altres mesquites il·luminades. El guia avui sopa amb nosaltres. Darreres preguntes. Ell ens ven un Islam perfecte en una societat ideal on tothom s’ajuda, on les dones viuen amb alegria amb el vel o sense segons la seva voluntat. No ens ho creiem del tot però ha fet tanta bona feina que tots l’acomiadem amb recança a l’entrada de l’hotel, segurament per sempre. Que tingui molt bona vida amb la dona i els tres fills. Inch Alá.

Un capítol a part: la seguretat. S’ha arribat a fer feixuc el nombre de controls que hem hagut de superar a l’aeroport, de fins a tres vegades. També hem passat controls en entrar al vaixell i a l’hotel (que, per cert, algun dia ha oblidat de fer-nos l’habitació) i cada cop que hem accedit a un museu, sovint també a la sortida. Suposo que és el preu de la seguretat.

4 días 3 noches crucero por el Nilo

Día 1: Tours en Aswan

Nuestro representante va a recibirte en el aeropuerto de Aswan o en la estación del tren y va a llevarte a tu lujoso crucero por el Nilo a bordo del barco Nile Dolphin. También vas a disfrutar de tomar el almuerzo a bordo del barco. Además vas a visitar la Alta Presa, el templo de Philae y el Obelisco inacabado en Aswan. Después disfrutarás de un paseo en faluca por el río Nilo rodeando el jardín botánico. Por último, la cena te ofrecerá a bordo del barco y pasarás la noche en Aswan.

Día 2: Tour al Templo de Kom Ombo

Por la mañana, disfrutarás de tomar un delicioso desayuno a bordo del barco Nile Dolphin. Luego navegará hacia Kom Ombo donde visitarás el templo de Kom Ombo que es dedicado a dos Dioses quienes son Sobek y Horus. Más tarde, tomarás el almuerzo a bordo del barco. Por último, navegará a Edfu donde tomarás la cena a bordo del barco y pasarás la noche.

Día 3: Tour al Templo de Edfu y Tours en Luxor
