One of the planned highlights I have for this trip is high tea!
I was hoping for a somewhat social experience so this is one of the few tours I book on this trip.
Annoyingly it doesn’t go great.
The time I booked didn’t have anyone else signed up, so the company offered to move me to an earlier or later time (my choice). While I appreciate the accommodation, what they failed to mention (or maybe didn’t know), is that the only folks on the new time are two very elderly ladies, who can’t really do much walking.
And it’s intended to be a 1hr walk of the gardens, followed by high tea. This is deeply sad since the attached walk was a major reason why I chose this tour. :(
So instead we get a sort of glance at the gardens, with the poor tour guide doing his best to compensate, while we have a very slow walk.
The tea itself was at least very good!
I’m not sure if it was the best tea in town, (there are more than a few options, some of them very unique) but it seemed like a nicely typical one, and was one I could find attached to a tour and that didn’t look to garlic heavy.
We have tea in the Orangery at Kensington Palace, a type of building which normally houses orange trees. But in this case was called such just because its bricks are orange.
High tea comes with multiple tiers (on one of the tea tiers).
The top tier is sweets: “Chocolate orange croustillant Strawberry and rose mini cheesecake Raspberry Victoria sponge Orange choux”
I didn’t have much of the chocolate ones, but the little nibbles I had were very good
The middle is scones with cream and jam: “Traditional scones Cornish clotted cream, blackcurrant preserves (alternative fruit preserves available)”
This tier ended up being my favorite, which I would not have guessed!.
and the bottom is the savory sandwiches. “English cucumber, dill finger sandwich Free range egg mayonnaise, salad cress finger sandwich Cured chalk stream trout, cream cheese, chives bagel Coronation chicken bridge roll Gammon ham, vine tomato, wholegrain mustard finger sandwich”
You also get a tea of your choice: “ORGANIC CHAQUOING GREEN A mellow, classic green tea from Sri Lanka which is known for some of the best green teas in the world.”
I noticed while researching that many places had gluten free, vegan, and/or vegetarian options as well.
According to the guide, tea started as more of a working class thing and got more posh over time. Nowadays high tea like this is a special occasion. But many folks have a smaller afternoon tea version, as their schedule allows.
And tea bags? an accident! Apparently a tea merchant would store his orders out in small lightweight bags with a string and label attached, mainly for ease of storage/labeling. When he found out folks were submerging the bags in water to make tea he was shocked!
Did I get dressed up and wear my bee dress (from Salem) for this? 100% yes
Will I ever forgive my hair for being just awful on the occasion? No.
If I go for high tea again as a solo traveler, I think I’d either a) just go solo (you get your own set of tiers anyway- just go hungry!) and thus have a wider range of menus to choose from. Or b) maybe try and find another traveler to share the experience with (preferably one with some photography skills.)
Do check if you can make a solo booking before you go. Some places seem to be limited to parties of 2 or more.
I think the Orangery allowed solo bookings, and seems to be a fairly quintessential example of a traditional English high tea.
If you’re looking for something smaller, cream tea (tea with scones that comes with clotted cream and jam) is likely a great option!

On February 13, 1931, Charlie Chaplin sailed for Europe on a tour to promote his new film, "City Light's", during which he visited England, Germany, Austria, Italy, and France. After the tour ended, Chaplin stayed in Europe—mostly in Switzerland and the French Riviera—because he simply did not feel like returning to Hollywood. In February 1932, after being away from home for exactly a year, Charlie Chaplin decided to return to California. Instead of taking the shorter, faster route across the Atlantic and then to the American continent, he took the longer, roundabout route through the Orient, a part of the world he had always wanted to visit and explore.
Not wanting to travel alone, Charlie Chaplin asked his brother Sydney, then living in Nice in the south of France, to accompany him.
Charlie's personal secretary, Toraichi Kono, a Japanese who had worked for him since 1916, also accompanied him on the journey. On March 2, 1932, they boarded the Japanese liner NYK (Nippon Yusen Kaisha) Suwa Maru at the port of Naples, Italy. Passing through the Suez Canal and Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), they arrived in Singapore on March 27, according to the local press, - although the date March 25, a Friday, is listed in the itinerary given in Charlie Chaplin's travel diaries.
Pictured: Charlie Chaplin was the guest of Ranee of Sarawak, her daughter H.H. Daya Elizabeth and Mr. H.C. Strickland, on April 27, 1932. Charlie's brother Sydney Chaplin is visible on the right.

Thank you so much for answering my ask about the sodastream and oxfam situation.
I personally think it's really disappointing and I'm kind of annoyed because she was "neutral" and kind of dismissive about the company being on a settlement. I didn't know about this before becoming a fan 😭😭 and I'm very pro palestine so this is upsetting I'm ngl. I'm trying to remain hopeful that she will say something (Marcel better answer your dms)
Anyways, if you could make that master post of the work she's done for different causes I would really appreciate it.
Let's continue to spread awareness and advocated for palestine!!
i didn’t know it too, i discovered in the past weeks. i’am feeling a bit unsure on how to proceed because i fully support the cause, but her silence and her past doing isn’t something i’m willing to support along with her.
i look up a lot to her, but, lately i can’t bring myself much to even follows what she’s doing with interests or happiness to see her up and about. i know her work is a thing and her own personal beliefs are another, but, i can’t bring my self to stan someone who stay silent in front of a genocide. no matter how much i love her work. maybe i’m hypocrite –whatever, i just can’t.
as for her publicist well, i’m pretty sure he will not answer me, like the other people i texted to, and we likely know why. so yeah.
to answer your last question we can start with her own skin care brand. she is proposing to the market and educating people on the importance of having a routine of skin care, but also to respect the environment. their products are cruelty free (they test the products first hand and not on animals) and, of course, they are good for the environment. the packaging around every product is completely reusable and made with materials good for the environment.
her brand made also lots of collabs with different other brands on support of women empowerment and healthy lifestyle. they also made pride month’s contents last year.
scarlett is in the first line for woman’s rights. she has been invited to speak and partecipate on woman’s march a lot. she talked about the importance of the right of abortion, donated for helping research to find a breast cancer cure (in the past weeks she went to an event about it and donated $2M).
she has been active during her ambassador role at Oxfam. in 2007 she skipped the oscars in order to tour in india and sri lanka for the Oxfam project visiting anti violence center for women.
recently she has been active with the OpenAI situation getting politicians to write a law about it and a member of the congress has asked her publicly to come to the congress to speak in order to encourage to pass the law.
and, of course, she has been active in her world too. during the SAG - AFTRA strike she has been one of the A-list actors to find seat and find à solution on the matter, she also donated for the cause.
she probably did many more good actions and advocacy, these are the most majoring one i guess.

GOA’S TOURISM UNDER FIRE: VIRAL CLAIMS VS GOVT. RESPONSE
Goa, India’s crown jewel for coastal tourism, is in the line of fire after viral social media posts highlighted the problems tourists face. The complaints about overpriced services, local transport issues, and a decline in foreign visitors have cast a shadow on Goa’s tourism industry. However, the state government is actively addressing these concerns to make sure travelers can still enjoy their dream vacations with affordable Goa tour packages and international tour packages.
Tumblr media
Decrease in Foreign Tourist Arrivals
A recent report by CEIC Data reported an unprecedented shrinkage in the number of foreign tourists flowing into Goa—from 8.5 million foreign visitors in 2019 down to 1.5 million this year. While the state’s Department of Tourism disputes these figures, one thing cannot be denied: that Goa gets really stiff competition from international destinations.
The reasons may include low or reasonable costs as many tourists from Europe shifted to destinations like Sri Lanka and Thailand because these have international tour packages comparable to that offered by Goa, India.
Goa Tour Package
‘Taxi Mafia’ and Overpricing: A Growing Concern
Some of the biggest complaints tourists in Goa have are with the ‘taxi mafia,’ who overcharge and intimidate people. A lot of tourists get irritated with these incidents. In support, one tourist mentioned paying ₹1,800 for a 37-kilometer drive, and other experiences include harassment from groups of taxi drivers for traveling in private vehicles or offering rides to friends.
The absence of affordable travel options, including ride-hailing services like Ola and Uber, added to the irritation. Services like these have been resisted from the beginning by local taxi unions, hence making traveling inside Goa costlier than many international destinations.
In view of this, most of the travel companies these days include pre-arranged transport in their tour packages to Goa so that tourists may not have to face any hassle.
Domestic Tourism on the Rise
Even with decreasing numbers of foreign arrivals, it recorded a steadily rising graph regarding domestic tourism. Domestic travelers also make their way to Goa along with Delhi and Bangalore as people of the nation are choosing this in many flights packages along with resorts or hotels plus conveyance.
For example, Farepayer Travels has introduced elaborated domestic tour packages, soothing to the purse, ensuring that for a budget-conscious tourist in search of sea beaches, nightlife, and heritage sites, travel to Goa is within his reach.
International Destinations: A Threat to Goa’s Allure?
Also, more and more numbers of Indians are going on international tours against Goa due to issues in cost and accessibility. Destinations like Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia have taken turns which promise affordability and feasibility.
“Post-COVID, once people discovered Southeast Asia and its visa-free options, Goa started losing its edge,” shared a traveler on X. More and more domestic tourists prefer international tour packages, with all the luxurious experiences included in them, at reasonable prices.
Affordable Goa Tour Packages: The Key to Reviving Tourism
To remain competitive, Goa must focus on offering value-driven tour packages. Travel companies like Farepayer Travels are stepping in with customized options such as:
Goa Tour Packages from Delhi: Including round-trip flights, airport transfers, hotel stays, and guided tours of major attractions like Calangute Beach and Old Goa.
All-Inclusive Goa Tour Packages: Covering accommodation, meals, local transport, and excursions.
Budget-Friendly Domestic Tour Packages: Perfect for families and solo travelers seeking affordable getaways within India.
Government’s Assurance on Tourism Revival
In response to these criticisms, Goa’s Department of Tourism has released an official statement highlighting that over 4.5 lakh foreign tourists visited the state in 2023. The government has also pledged to modernize infrastructure and explore solutions for affordable transport, ensuring a positive experience for all visitors.
How to Plan Your Next Trip to Goa
If you’re considering Goa for your next vacation, here are some tips:
Book Comprehensive Tour Packages: Choose trusted providers like Farepayer Travels for all-inclusive packages, including flights, hotels, and local sightseeing.
Research Transport Options: While local taxis are costly, many tour packages include private transport.
Compare Goa with International Destinations: Evaluate the cost of a Goa trip versus an international tour package to destinations like Thailand or Sri Lanka.
The Road Ahead for Goa Tourism
As the competition from international destinations grows, Goa’s tourism stakeholders must innovate and adapt. Affordable Goa tour packages, better infrastructure, and addressing traveler concerns like transport issues are critical to maintaining Goa’s status as a top destination for both domestic and international tourists.
Plan Your Perfect Trip with Farepayer Travels Whether you’re seeking a relaxing beach holiday or an adventurous international tour, Farepayer Travels offers a variety of options tailored to your budget:
