📚 Books I finished in February!

The first three are E-arcs

Queen of Crimson Throne by Kaitlyn Swanson - (releases 2/7/2025) This is the second book in a series, and I am happy with it.

Across Time and Starlight by Alessandro Candotti - (released 2/4/2025), this is a no. The wording was too poetic, and the story didn't make sense.

A Simple Twist of Fate by April Asher - (releases 5/13/2025) If you like raunchy Hallmark, then this is for you. It was an ok read for me. The beginning was good, but then it just fell flat by the end. Though the second couple sounded interesting, I don't think I will continue this standalone series. The chapter titles were wild I will give it that 😂.

Rebel Witch by Kristen Ciccarelli - Last book in a duology. Absolutely loved this sequel! I can re-read this duology happily. It is easy to follow along and dive back into this world of witches and witch hunters (real enemies to lovers in book one).

Serpent and Dove by Shelby Mahurin - I wanted to continue the witch and witch hunter theme, and this has been sitting on my shelf for a year. The audiobook was good, I did like the story. It's true to its time period, so there were phrases that did tick me off, but I don't hold that against the story. I will eventually read the sequel (i say that about every series i'm in the middle of, but im hoping to be in the mood to pick this back up). I'm just stuck in the Elfhame at the moment

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black - Another book that had been sitting on my shelf for a year. I deeply regret waiting to read this one. I should have trusted my gut when I originally got it because it's now a favorite! Devoured it and the rest of the trilogy

The Wicked King - 100% sure, this is my favorite in the series. Cardan, I could never be tired of you

The Queen of Nothing - I felt horrible when Jude said she might be screaming after killing the snake.

How the King of Elfhame Learned to Hate Stories - I happily enjoyed being in Cardan's head. This was a better ending to the series

I'm trying to read books I've had on my shelves for a while rather than going out and buying more, but I teeter totter on a fine line 😂. The artist Frostbite came out with fanart for the Ragpicker King, and I'm extremely tempted to buy the first book and this book just because of the fanart.

It's actually more about the feelings of resemblance. All my teachers' designs or some named NPC, even LIs, were based on my first impressions of their descriptions.

For example, Doren, who's buffy and has shaggy red hair and laid back personality and well-intention, so I immediately remember Iskandar/Alexander from Fate franchise.

And River, he seems too strict and upright, the kind of teacher I would be too scared to make small talk during class, so I remember Lord El-Melloi ll / Waver Velvet. So I make him has thoes scrunched eyebrows and Waver hairstyle lol

And then we have these dudes lol

Sirris? Part of his design is based on Sydney's and the other part is referenced from Zen (Mystic Messenger). I really think Sirris's an attractive (read: fuckable) man, and Zen was my MysMes bias too lol and also I wanted to fuck Sirris so very bad

Mason? I dunno why but he seems so friendly and, like, I just think of him as another classmate, a good one at that, not a teacher, and damn that's a shame we can't fuck him (or any other teachers we like). His design came to me naturally, not any ref I could recall now, but if there's any character with the same style I used to like, must be Takumi from Shokugeki Soma.

Winter is a different case. I based him on my own Ivory Wraith design, and the Wraith has already had a spite ingame so yeah. One thing I didn't think of at first, was that he would look older. Damn sure this fine gentleman is immortal lol.

Eden, a tricky one since I don't really interact with him. But like I've mentioned earlier today on an ask, I do like the type of character who's "lonely to the point of desperate" so you can expect my Eden design to look like Totter from Arknights (read: I want to peg him)

And other School's LIs and Alex pretty much have their in-game description already and they're pretty clear, especially Sydney. You can already see that Sydney's fanart is almost the same, save for the length of their hair or the side of fringes, etc,...

The only free-to-imagine is Robin since they don't have any description about their appearance save that they have very soft hair, and I took it as an opportunity to mix a bunch of my fav tropes into creating one character: Too many freckles you can literally connect them into constellations, chwubby big build like a hugging pillow, green eyes like the translucent gemstone PC brings back to the museum and can touch it to feel calm,... Lol, it works wonders.

As a character design artist myself I have a pretty large mental library of character types and design tropes, and lucky me, this game is all about stereotypes lol.

I will always be in awe of fanartists who make designs for the characters considering they literally are just dialogue and we have very little to go off of in terms of actual looks.

actually, if i got right, in kishimoto's sketches nothing was ripped, and pants looked like usual ninja pants. this fact makes me rlly annoyed bc it means they spoiled sasuke's look on purpose

To be honest, I disagree with this. It's very, very hard to tell with the initial designs whether that was what Kishimoto was going for or not, because they are very rough sketches. That being said, the rugged look DOES make sense with Sasuke because of what he's doing; he's out in the world, he's travelling, he probably doesn't care if the edges of his clothing are a little tattered because as long as they're functional, they're good enough for him. I don't think it necessarily spoils his look, it's just something I'm personally not aesthetically into for him as a character.

If Kishimoto did all the original sketches, it would mean he had to approve the final design, so it's still his work in a sense.
