V alue - How important is the relationship to them? What is it’s worth in comparison to other things in their life?

As surprising as it may sound. Rio actually values the bond you two share, like... A lot. You're quite literally the only person who came closest to understanding him properly and wanting to recognise how he actually feels. Over the course of the years, his own feelings have been misguided and disregarded a lot plainly due to his title role as the third floormaster. They fail to look past the task he was taken responsible for, which you were able to most progress in. He feels like you have the capability of understanding him and vice versa and that just makes your relationship with him all the more special.

W ild Card - A random Fluff Headcanon.

So. We’re aware Ranger tends to wear the clothing of the deceased in order to feel more human, yes? He’d constantly swap his outfit to what finds itself in your own closet and quite frankly just take anything similar you're wearing in order to look more similar. You wearing headgear? He's taking that. Have any scarfs or shawls? Snatched. He's especially fond of articles you enjoy wearing and it seems as if your scent always manages to calm him down to a certain degree.

Any given accessories are a must during this relationship. The more ridiculous they are, the better. Though I can mainly imagine him not enjoying jewelry pieces and such, due to the given irritation among the body parts. But he’ll remain willing to wear some jewelry as long as it belonged to you, as it rather gives him a bigger sense of sentimental value.

X OXO - Are they very affectionate? Do they love to kiss and cuddle?

...Affectionate isn’t exactly the right word. He’s needy and clingy, that’s for certain. But he almost seems to look down upon actual touchy gestures, believing them to be gross and just a way to pass on germs to a next level. He’s usually quite dramatic about it too, which is rather hilarious and amusing for your sake. It’s like giving a toddler a peck on the forehead or cheek. He’s absolutely going to whine in disgust and feel flustered over it like never before. Every reaction you get out of him is better than the last. Making his flushed state even more endearing. Over time, he tends to grow more accustomed to it though. Which usually just results in him throwing some petty insult as a defense mechanism while turning bright red in the process.

Y earning - How will they cope when they’re missing their partner?

He will quite frankly become the devil himself for those around him. He already tends to be quite the tormenting individual towards the other participants, well multiply that by hundred if you're not there to keep him on a leash. Aside from obeying his father’s commands, you're literally the only one ... And I mean the only person who he behaves decently for. You cease his anger to a certain degree whenever you're in his presence. But when you've ditched him, he won't hesitate to go all out on your friends and allies either.

He truly is just incredibly needy and grows frustrated when he doesn't get what he wants for long [like the bratty man that he is]. He'd be on edge the entire time, growing incredibly snappy to the other participants once more and even more moody than he usually is, making him a lot more difficult to deal with. At this rate, nobody can calm the boy down anymore until you reappear in his sights. That's the way to lighten his mood.

Z eal - Are they willing to go to great lenghts for the relationship? If so, what kind of?

Rio would practically give it all in his power to prevent you from getting executed or harmed within the game. Your bond, to him, was a one in a million chance of ever happening in the first place. The fact how much it even developed over time was like winning the lottery. And it's obvious that he prioritises the relationship a lot. He would go to great lengths to ensure your safety and he won't hesitate in the slightest to get violent in order to do so. He will make sure his superior role will be of use. But ...That doesn't mean his devotion to his father won't be a big risk. He would do everything, and I mean everything in order to make him feel the slightest bit proud; even if you know he never will be no matter what your beloved does in order to get it. And you can only hope, wish, pray that his senses shall be returned ... As Rio Laizer.

But by then it might've already been too late. Time would tell.

Rio pushes his dreams onto you • Apathetic characteristics

O n Cloud Nine - What are they like when they are in love? Is it obvious for others? How do they express their feelings?

He is absolutely terrible when it comes to expressing himself, but it's most definitely visible to those around him and closer to him. Safalin, especially. It's more obvious to the other players rather than his own self. He'll find himself wanting to stay close to you by will despite the current situation. It doesn't matter where you are, what time it is or who died, he wants to stick close to you. The participants also happen to catch him staring at you from across the room at times, he happens to be much less harsh with you and you'll notice him making exceptions for you.

He'll noticeably grow less snarky towards those around him when you just so happen to be around, honestly making the other participants stick close to you for comfort [which ends up biting them in the a$$ due to his boiling jealousy]. He is like a love sick puppy, just wanting to be in the same room as you while being in a better mood for the rest of the day because you simply just exist.

P DA - Are they upfront about their relationship? Do they brag with their s/o in front of others? Or are they rather shy to kiss etc. when others are watching?

This can go two ways, but I think this happens to be a simple matter of time. At first, he'll feel slightly embarrassed for being in a relationship with a human while he literally berates them all the time for the sake of fun and entertainment. He'll keep quiet and nobody will likely know about it at all, even if it's more than obvious. He doesn't want it to be directly ‘confirmed’ due to his own inner problems, it making him feel even more weak than he already is. But he tends to warm up.

As soon as your support helps him recover from his inferiority complex, including his many insecurities; he'll grow more much more comfortable than he was beforehand. As soon as he gets the help to work on himself, he'll feel a whole lot less pressure among the relationship and has no problem openly speaking about your true bond either. In fact, he'd likely even grow a bit too excited over the relationship you two have with one another. He literally doesn't shut up and he'll grow to love talking about you. You always manage to find your way into every conversation and he'll keep on babbling until you forcefully drag him off.

Q uirk - Some random ability they have that’s beneficial in a relationship.

His status as the third floormaster can definitely be beneficial for your safety and emotional wellbeing. If you were ever to be mistreated by one of the other participants, they'll be humbled by Ranger real quick. They already fear him like no other, so they'll keep their hands off you for the prevention for a fate worse than death for sure. But the fact you've managed to tame him to a certain degree also result in a sense of awe and respect from the others that they normally wouldn't show.

His perfect physical body lacking flaws and such could certainly cause slight insecurity on your part, but I can see Rio being very strict yet still understanding among the appearance part. He is insecure himself, but he also thinks you should adore your human body until the end, something he just couldn't have ... If you were to struggle with acne, scarring, birth or stretch marks, etc; instead of ridiculing you for it, he'd offer you up to do your skincare with you as a regular activity to help you feel better. He'll hype you up to show off your scars and marks to its fullest all while being supportive of you.

R omance - How romantic are they? What would they do to make their s/o happy? Cliché or rather creative?

This absolute manchild is the least person you should expect to behave romantic all the time. Each and every activity needs to have an entertaining swing to it to prevent his boredom. Rio will at most make small gestures that could be considered loving and hopefully make it clear that he does in fact love you. For example, Ranger would mainly use sticky notes to leave around your room because he has no idea how to word his sentences properly. He'd write down small compliments or habits of yours he likes and then just stick em on your door. Other small things he'd do is create more expressive face cards that usually includes hearts emotives and such, which he'll only use around you.

S upport - Are they helping their s/o achieve their goals? Do they believe in them?

This is a rather difficult topic regarding Ranger. He definitely wants to help you in any case scenario imaginable, but he tends to oblige his own hopes and dreams onto you at times. Due to your status as a human and the fact that he views you as much more tenacious than him or the other dolls, he tries to gain access to a normal life and perspective through you. There's going to be times where he disregards your wishes to instead compare it with his own, pushing his needs onto you and making his support rather for himself instead of his partner.

But besides from that flaw, he does try everything in his power in order to support you in your goals. His floormaster role also tends to come in handy, especially as the others would be more willing to listen with Rio by your side. If your desires happen to include selfless services or helping the other participants, he'll definitely silently judge you for it and throw in a sassy remark here and there for your overly sweet demeanor [how dare you be the angel he so desperately needed in his life]. But despite his stubbornness, he'll most definitely end up giving in and helping you out no matter what.

T hrill - Do they need to try out new things to spice out your relationship? Or do they prefer a certain routine?

Oh, nuh uh. If you think this menace is going to stick to a certain routine, you are DEAD wrong. The whole reason why he gave this lovey dovey lifestyle a chance in the first place was for the sake of change. He wants to try out practically everything with you. As soon as a chance in given for a new experience, he's going to take it with open arms and you'll automatically be dragged with him in the process. He wants to try and keep everything entertaining for the both of you, especially with his current position in the game, wanting nothing more than to be that one person who can snap you out of your current boredom no matter the cost.

All his life he's thought that his only purpose was to cause despair and hopelessness towards the humans among the killing game. But your appearance happened to make a huge change in the matter. He wants to keep you satisfied with him and his antics, while wanting to keep himself well pleased aswell.

U nderstanding - How good do they know their partner? Are they empathetic?

This is another complex situation when it comes to Rio. He's especially talented among reading humans and the emotions they may hold in the current circumstances, but in terms of his empathy ...that is a different story. Rio is already naturally apathetic and lacks the ability to feel compassion for pretty much everybody out there, no matter how hard he tries to rearrange [pun intended] himself into feeling otherwise for your sake.

Don't get me wrong, he cares a lot about you in his own way. And he is willing to put on an act to try and make you feel less detached. Especially when hinting at the fact he has been misunderstood by many himself. But in shorter terms; he understands you and can read you very well for that matter, but ... He has immense trouble caring for that spectrum. He wants to, and he knows he should, which directly explains the facade he prefers to keep on around you. Which is why you'll might have to dig a bit deeper in order to change that habit into genuine sincerity...

The Dress-up Doll; one, if not the single character with the most pent up anger, jealousy and frustrations. But you give him a way or two for all that tension to be pleasantly released. And for being a violent sadist, he's surprisingly obedient and sensitive towards it...

Edit: I'm probably gonna adjust and edit this fic when I gain the motivation for it. It feels incredibly unfinished in my opinion and I internally cringe every time at how fast it gets intimate. Plus, Ranger would never give in that fast, so that's another something I don't really like about it. I believe the main problem is that I wrote the smut before actually thinking of a scenario that led to it, so I just rushed the first part to get it over with. Learning from that mistake, that's for sure.

“So you're telling me you want my bottled up anger to be set free?” The doll spoke in a bitter tone as he raised an eyebrow, his face card expressing one of anger while his bright orange eyes were as cold and emotionless as usual. You two were currently sitting in your assigned room as you left a very directed message for him; which he unsurprisingly took as a challenge or another excuse to torment the participant it was from.

“I hope you understand that you're playing with fire here, bastard” he spoke coldly, sending you a death glare, but you weren't phased in the slightest. You had your one and only goal which you were going to achieve no matter the struggle.

“dangerous, you say~?” you sneakily spoke before you leaned in once more, getting in his face. Your face met the side of his neck as you came in contact with him, giving him the much needed warmth. You kissed his neck as well as nibbling at his skin, the heat of your mouth and probably saliva exposed onto his throat. Your left hand sneakily went over towards him as your stroked him on the other side of his neck with your fingertips, brushing it left and right. All while still continuing your act of leaving soft kisses and bites all over him.

“Gah...!” Even though he was made to be a doll who feels no pain and is unaffected by the cold... he was not unaffected to the heat of your tongue. He felt all the heat that you were putting on him. “W-Why you...~!!” He let out small gasps of pleasure, the feeling was beyond intense.. he loved it. Rio leaned his head to the side.. giving you more access. And as it was given, you didn't hesitate in the slightest. A small giggle leaving your throat and onto his skin which made him shiver slightly. More of your mouth met his neck, but you made sure to remain gentle. Rio's whole body was shaking like a leaf now, he couldn't bear anymore. All of this felt so unnatural, but it felt... natural for Rio at the same time. He is unfortunately quite secretive about himself and the feelings that truly hide behind the sadistic ‘dress-up doll’ role he has. He has an image to maintain, no matter how bad he desires to let out his true colours at times. He oftentimes continues to behave like the cocky and arrogant individual who lacks all positively describable emotions, mocking those around him and not being genuine with not just them, but himself.

You’ll either have to pry his feelings out of him or you have to be experienced among the understanding of other beings and psychological themes. You need to be careful to not come off as too insensitive if you decide to push attention onto the topic though, as Ranger is rather quick to holding grudges. But if you have a gentle approach, don’t push anything and remain respectful throughout the entire conversation; he’s going to be more hooked than he was before. A partner who attempts to understand him to the best of their ability being exactly what the male craves in his life.

I nspiration - Did their s/o change them somehow, or the other way around? Like trying out new things or helped them overcome personal problems?

Oh, absolutely! He noticeably becomes a whole lot less hostile to those around you, letting go of his pride as the floormaster and instead just focusing on his relationship with you some more. He couldn’t care less about the other participants and isn’t one to grow a sympathetic mindset, even with your guidance included ...but atleast he doesn’t entirely treat your peers with complete disrespect any longer. He’s not gonna go soft on them, but he’ll put up and have basic mercy upon them because of the benefit it would have for you regarding their trust.

If you’re the type to allow him to rant about his bottled up feelings and just listen to him; He’ll have a higher chance of overcoming his inferiority complex and jealousy towards the players as well. It’s best to keep quiet on high advice and such, as it’s not something he personally needs among the topic. Besides, his cockiness is too high up to actually accept instruction and recommendations from another. It would take hours of talking and stacks of effort, but it’s worthy seeing the male finally show a speck of sincere self-respect towards himself for once.

J ealousy - Do they get jealous easily? How do they deal with it?

You don’t have to say that twice. He is already a naturally jealous individual due to the attachment he grows towards you and his hidden insecurities. Now just add an inferiority complex that takes over while his partner is constantly surrounded by those he considers better and superior. His view on himself is already as bad as it gets, but it gets severely horrid when other humans keep trying to get close to you and bond while he’s not nearby. Getting frustrated with everyone around, you and himself in the duration of it.

You’ll have to try and comfort Ranger at a moment’s notice, or atleast reassurance is deeply required. Paranoia overflows the boy when he’s not there to keep an eye on you. And when he is, it usually would end up in a pointless fight, and at the very least a yelling fit. He usually just tries to direct his anger towards those who try and talk to you, but sometimes even you manage to be pulled into the argument, especially if you’re not one to notice the habits he struggles with. There’s only so much bottled up jealousy Rio can handle until he completely snaps, lashing out with teary eyes. Being the most fragile towards his own overwhelming emotions.

K iss - Are they a good kisser? What was the first kiss like?

He has absolutely zero experience among intimate themes and relationships as a whole. Although he wouldn’t dare to ever admit this, Rio truly is a hopeless romantic at heart, no matter how hard he tries to deny it. He likes to think that he knows exactly what he’s doing, usually resulting in him getting too cocky and completely messing up the act. It would take forever for him to even give you a simple peck on cheek, much less on the lips.

He feels surprisingly nervous whenever it occurs too, his palms getting sweaty while the gears in his head are spinning and turning in circles, overheating all while he tries to keep his cool. And despite his efforts, his desire to have power over the situation are quite ineffective and shortcoming. Kisses truly being the weak spot for his persona.

L ove Confession - How would they confess to their s/o?

It would take quite literally everything he has to even admit his own feelings to himself, much less the one person who managed to steal the sadist’s heart in the first place. He would continue to push his feelings to the side, only to realise they come kicking back in twice as hard. Long story short, his ego and pride will be completely shattered by the end of the day and it would take indescribably long. But if he does finally manage to accept his ‘secret’ crush towards you, he has absolutely fallen head over heels by then.

He’ll be surprisingly needy and hesitant when confessing his love for you, being out in a state of nervousness he’s never been in before. The dork would be tripping over his words, stuttering, practically begging you to accept his confession with open arms while his cheeks casually turn as red as tomatoes.

M arriage - Do they want to get married? How do they propose? What would the marriage be like?

The word ‘marriage’ doesn’t even exist in his vocabulary and he honestly doesn’t want it to either. Rio finds the thought of dressing up in white and having to behave all neatly and proper just sounds way too sappy for him. He’s quite the childish and playful character, so he isn’t one to think of proposing at all. He also tends to have quite the busy schedule among the killing game, so the topic usually wouldn’t even cross his mind in the first place. And if you do manage to bring it up, he’ll tackle that back down fast and get all whiny. He 100% rants about it with Safalin too. Mainly because she’s the only one besides you willing to listen to his rambling.

What I would see happening, however, is his interest towards the thought of it growing due to you hyping up the idea and Safalin being supportive of it and giving him the much needed advice. He tends to behave disgusted over the fact that you even have the audacity to bring it up, and yet somewhere in the back of his mind ... he cannot help but have a jolt of excitement going through him whenever you so happily talk about marriage. Even at first hand he considers himself to be too immature for it. He also gets rather flustered over lovey dovey circumstances and isn’t even emotionally capable enough to ask you out on a simple date. He just wouldn’t have the strength for proposing, even if he warms up to the idea. But even when it’s not directly stated, he looks forward to a potential wedding you have the chance of planning in the future.

N icknames - What do they call their s/o?

Nicknames never really cross his mind at first hand. Early into the relationship, he’ll mainly just call you by your last name to piss you off; much due to the fact that calling another by their last name can indicate a simple acquainted bond instead of an actual deep and serious relationship. But even as he slowly grows out of that phase, he doesn’t use much else other than your real name.

Something that can get to him, however; is you using the desired nicknames for affectionate motives. As long as he catches one single glimpse of you calling him something other than “Rio” or “Ranger”, you bet your a$$ he’s going to be calling you by the exact same pet-name by next morning. He’s especially fond of using the nickname “Darlin'” for you. Taking any opportunity known to mankind to just tease you to death.

A ctivities - What do they like to do with their s/o? How do they spend their free time with them?

Because you’re technically both stuck in a killing game where danger lingers at every corner, a lot of the more ‘normal’ activities are most likely minimised. The role of being the third floormaster also puts a ton of responsibility on his hands, so most free time gets reduced to the smallest possible degree. This doesn’t stop you, however. You just keep dragging him along with you against his will. Rio would feel slightly weirded out but strangely amused by your behaviour towards him. Unlike the others, you never treated him as your enemy to begin with. He’d play along with you at first. Constantly watching if you have any hidden motives or goals behind your sickly sweet demeanor. Only to figure out the facts and realise that... You don't.

You’d pull him along to do quite literally anything remotely fun you have the chance of doing in this hell hole, pulling him away from the killing game itself after the said attractions to instead spend both of your time in your assigned room. I especially enjoy the thought of you both doing activities in order to make him feel more human rather than as a doll. This usually just results in you painting his nails, giving him some make-up of your own to enjoy, using some facial paint on his features or brushing his beautiful ginger locks as you both babble your days away. Other fun things would include you both creating more face cards such as the ones he always held with him, helping you make some of your own so you two can twin.

B eauty - What do they admire about their s/o? What do they think is beautiful about them?

Due to him physically being a doll and having this inferiority complex towards humans, he’s most likely going to adore every single inch of you, his low status striking him once again, but he wouldn’t dare show you this. It sadly does add onto insecurity and even potential jealousy. And although the list of things he adores about you is endless, there’s something else in particular that specifically helped you steal his heart with no exceptions.

Your determination to be kind to him.

This is what he admires about you the most. We all know he can behave like an unbearable prick and he made it clear that he wasn’t up for friendships with humans. And yet... You never lost your hope in him. Despite his floormaster title, you still viewed an treated him as you did with any other participant. You still smiled at him. And your lack of resentment towards him might just be exactly what he needed in order to lessen his own towards the other players in the game.

C omfort - How would they help their s/o when they feel down/have a panic attack etc.?

Rio has little to no experience in proper communication, much less the instinctive responses the human body and mind can have towards themselves. As soon as you fall into these little habits, he would at first just stare blankly at you; not knowing what on earth to think. He’d move over towards you, being somewhat awkward with his movements yet being strangely... Caring at the same time. He won’t be too intimately touchy with you, but you’ll definitely get a hug here and there and he always seems to want to entangle his hand with yours.

Ranger has seen the affects of true despair on past participants. And despite his lack of care and empathy towards others, he knows he doesn’t want you to feel the same way. He finds the sensitivity of human emotions difficult to deal with, but ... He cannot help but feel this need to help you. Despite being rather unhandy when it comes to physical contact and affection, it seems like he wants to stay close to you or at least remain in the same room whenever you’re feeling down or are going through an episode. He’d also leave behind snacks and other basic human needs to make sure you’ll still take good care of yourself. He does truly care about you in his own way ...and it will show as long as you keep note of the little details.

D reams - How do they picture their future with their s/o?

He doesn’t really tend to think about the future nor care about it that deeply. To him, the only importance is here and now. Though every now and then his mind will go towards the what ifs. He’s seen romantically involved relationships between other players before you came along and though he never thought much of it back then; he sometimes cannot help but hope for the exact same things to happen between you two. The connections he’s gotten glimpses of before you two became a couple stuck with him and it now sometimes makes him wonder if the same are capable between you and him.

Somewhere deep down, he truly does desire a bond of trust with another that doesn’t require certain motives or gets deeply affected with the current circumstances you find yourselves in. He wants to be understood and accepted for who he is.

He naturally feels inferior towards those who are human and you are no exception. This mainly results in him trying to boss you around and act like a much more dominant individual than he actually is. He’s always had this facade to keep on in order to live up to his father’s expectations as the third floormaster. He wants to believe that he’ll stick together like glue until the end, with or without being looked after. But he keeps on feeling this damned warmth in his chest whenever you provide the littlest bit of affection, resulting in him melting in your arms behind pure instinct.

Realistically speaking, the boy loves to be babied and has a soft spot for those who are the nurturing type. He’s really just a child in an adult’s body, especially after facing the neglect of his father. He likes to convince himself that he doesn’t need love and care at all. But if anything, he internally craves it more than anything. He finds himself getting shaken up with the tiniest bit of affection and doesn’t know how to handle the sensation of it. He truly is rather sensitive towards it all.

F ight - Would they be easy to forgive their s/o? How are they fighting?

Ah yes. Very fluffy, guys.

It most likely depends on what the fight is about. You both constantly get into little squabbles and contests where you test one another, mainly caused by Ranger’s unending and merciless teasing. But there is absolutely no hard feelings behind a lovers quarrel. Heavier topics however ... are a different story. It most likely ranges between his insecurities getting the best of him and taking it out on you, or you calling out his father’s terrible influence. And if it’s mentioned, Ranger goes mad.

Even if somewhere deep down, he knows that you’re more than right. After a screaming fit is thrown, he’s likely going to avoid you for a while to try and sort his feelings out. Fortunately after this, he will 100% come crawling back like his life depends on it. And in all honesty, it does. You’re the only one out there who made him experience these foreign feelings... he wouldn’t dare lose that now. He seems like the type to never directly apologise because of his stubborn- and pettiness, but he would stop trying to prevent facing you at some point. He’d still dodge questions and reason, but he would try and show he’s sorry by giving you little gifts all around the block.

G ratitude - How grateful are they in general? Are they aware of what their s/o is doing for them?

He wouldn’t share it to the open eye for sure, but he does realise that you’ve always done a lot for him. He sometimes even considers himself undeserving for every little effort you’ve put into your bond with him. He struggles a lot with sharing his true emotions and it has a lot of healing to do in order for this to get better. He shows his gratefulness through physical touch and contact, something he usually wouldn’t allow at all and where one could get highly punished for. Instead, he just shows his appreciation and gratitude for you through his own ways and as much as he possibly can.
