hi! it's the anon who asked you about heartstopper tv and YES you are so right. the way you mentioned how it was unafraid to say lesbian and transgender made me so happy?? i feel like so many shows opt for the word gay or gnc (which is mmfine) but the heartstopper team had our backs the whole time. plus the deviations from the comics was really cool to see since it's a story we're familiar with and love. it was a very refreshing development on the characters and i'm all for seeing more tao/elle as well as nick&tao (tao my beloved)! i was a little worried about imogen since at first she felt like the female love interest who is inserted to add drama to the mlm couple, which is a trope i think is used poorly in a lot of shows, but it didn't feel like that in the end. she was a lot like becky. good for her. also seeing becky talk to ben at the gate?? AND seeing tori diet-lemonade spring played by the most wonderful jenny walser??! the addition of issac too!! our unbothered king. him reading radio silence in the bowling alley broke me because it was like.... dude....... overall it was just so good especially how it handled intwined romantic and plantonic relationships. i love my tv paris squad

YEAH i was also a bit nervous about imogen in that same way, once the promo material started hinting that she had a crush on nick i was sort of worried she was going to fall into that (usually misogynistic) trope, but i think they handled her story very well. she added a bit of drama and miscommunication in a way i did end up liking. mildly annoying characters my beloved. apparently some people online do absolutely hate her though which fascinates me because imo she didn't really do anything Wrong, she just ran her mouth.

tori.......<3 she was so iconic with her perpetual diet lemonade :') i've always loved how different tori is in heartstopper vs solitaire, her own terrible self-esteem makes her feel like she's being awkward and cold but charlie thinks of those exact same things she does as cool and mysterious. absolutely loved seeing Cool Tori and i DEMAND a solitaire spinoff to we can get Awkward Tori!!!

also YES isaac reading radio silence and talking about it with charlie dgfhkdfjgkj the 4th wall was being shattered as we speak welcome to heartstopper: into the osemanverse

and yes i loved the emphasis on platonic friendships!!! i think that's definitely a staple of alice's writing-- platonic relationships are always just as important (if not more important) than romantic ones. i'm very glad they included that in the show too!!

also, that wasn't becky at the school gate! becky and ben won't date until during solitaire, which is set about a year after this season. it was a different gf who's also in the comics :) (for like 1 panel lol)

best moment: all of them ... ummm julie singing wake up, the speech before stand tall and when julie is in the alley, alex dancing with dirty candy, the locket scene, the chemistry scene, the part where julie finds out who emily is, i still could have followed you, willex meet cute, luke giving julie bright...the list goes on :)! also all the performances (honorable mention: i got the music bc i love that song and it never gets the hype it deserves)

moment that made you cry the most: ok so i know this is technically not in the show but the behind the band episode 3 i think (the one where they record). i cried a lot during bc i just love the show and the cast so much and they’re so inspiring and i just wanna sing and dance and act tooo!!!!! a show moment (i didn’t cry while watching the show don’t kill me ) that made me cry or almost cry would be bright during my many rewatches and also stand tall :)

moment that made you SQUEEEE the most: literally every willex scene ... like all of them ... also edge of great song guitar riff, the part where we find out alex is gay, stand tall, and alex with dirty candy!

favorite ship: ahhhhh i like so many ahhh i’m a multi shipper too so... favorite cannon ship would be willex and favorite non cannon ship would probably be flarrie or lalex or whatever their ship name is but i like all of the ships like reggie/nick is great and underrated goodie. also luke and reggie (i prefer luke to be reggies bi awakening and one sided crush though ) .... anddddd may i present carrie/reggie, ik that kinda comes out of nowhere but i think it would be sooooooooooo cute!

how/why you started the show: i saw a cover of flying solo on tiktok so then i thought why not start this show... then i watched the trailer and didn’t think i would like it (crazy ik especially since i watch the trailer for fun sometimes... 😳) anyways i ended up watching episode 1 and 2 then went to bed and the next day i continued.

why i love the show: the representation. madison reyes having the lead role is so big and important and special to me... especially as a young latina/hispanic girl. seeing her as julie has changed my life completely and madi is such an amazing role model and makes me want to sing and dance and follow my dreams. the story. grief/loss is one of the main themes of the show and it’s something i don’t have a ton of experience with on a large scale (of course i’ve lost things like friends,etc but a parent and life are huge things ) . it was nice to see this topic showcased in a real and authentic way. the friendships. on screen and off screen. i LOVE the friendship between the phantoms as well and with julie and i love julie’s friendship with flynn. it was really refreshing to see these relationships and such strong bonds in a tv show. the cast is super close and so amazing and cute and they are just so so so talented. the music. of course i love the music and musica elements of the show. the songs and performances are so amazing! the whole cast is so talented and make it look so easy ! i feel like i could pick up a guitar and be just as great as charlie and/or jeremy or wail on some drums and replicate the magic that owen creates (which just attests to the talents of the cast). DIRTY CANDY/DIRTY CANDI. savanah, tori and the other dirty candy(i) girls are so talented and the songs slap i don’t care what anyone says. wow and all eyes on me are bops... i’ll say that til the day i die haha also the dancing is so good like pls can i dance like sav!!!!

Solitaire

Hi guys! First post that isnt a reblog but I just finsihed Solitaire and other than the fact that I feel completly empty and ecstatic at the same time, I want to just talk about how fucking amazing Solitaire is. Solitaire gives the perfect essense of just being a person and not being able to process the shit thats happening. Tori Spring is such a brave and real character, and the relashionship that Micheal and her developed through the book was actually so refreshing and amazing to read. The creativity of the book is so unmatched and just like all the main events of the story were so descriptive and youthful, LIKE THE FIREWORKS SCENE ESPECIALLY and all the scenes where Micheal and Tori are just not giving a shit about others and enjoying eachothers livelyhood, like its so good. Tori wasn’t just a steryotpical and one dimensional “sad girl”, she was so much more. She just felt out of place, and it was so touching to see another person (like me) just hate so much and feel so different from others for hating so much. I think the building burning at the end was just an amazing way to end off the book because its so disruptive and quiet just like the rest of the book. I also really enjoyed how the end of the book was in Nick’s car, because it was so oridinary and real. Their conversations that no one interupted were so quiet and ordinary, I really love Tori.

solitaire is alice oseman’s debut novel! it focuses on mental health, lgbt+ relationships, the internet, liveblogging yr sad feelings and things being funny because they’re true.

our story revolves around victoria “tori” spring, a very pessimistic teenager who is now in 6th form of an UK grammar school. her hobbies include:1. sleeping2. blogging3.one day, she sees a post it on a wall and basically, stuff escalates and now there’s a bunch of people pulling pranks on the school. she also meets this guy michael, who desperately wants to solve the mystery of who is behind solitaire and be her friend (???). so, tori, like a good main character,

.........literally just doesn’t care about any of this.

and then stuff happens! read to find out!

i personally really enjoyed solitaire because of uhh.,,.,. so many reasons:1. it’s portrayal of mental health issues and lgbt+ relationships as real things. nick and charlie’s relationship is very real and regarded as normal!! v refreshing + good2. the subversion of a lot of YA lit tropes!! also super refreshing and fun to read, especially when, like me, you are Done with clichés3. The Teenagers Actually Act And Talk Like Real Teenagers4. not exactly a part of the book, but the fact that the author is an absolute sweetheart??? ive sent alice so damn many asks over the years over on @chronicintrovert that im like, genuinely surprised she hasn’t blocked me yet. catch me logging the fuck on at 3 am to ask if michael will ever own a dog (the answer is yes a corgi). definitely helped me love these books even more bc u have SO much canon expansion which is something i personally live for

a bit of a disclaimer is that solitaire was written back in 2010, so it sometimes doesnt live up to todays #woke standards (as in, a very white cast) but its still better than.... literally 99.9% of YA lit out there. this isnt even a hyperbole???

also! i will Have to reccomend u alice’s other projects! - radio silence (book):  girl meets the creator behind her fave podcast. also uni stress and bad parents. - i was born for this (book):  trans band member & fangirl of said band’s paths accidentally intertwine. also internet friendships and regular friendships and sweet old people.- @heartstoppercomic (webcomic):  boy meets boy. also, dogs and shoes. this follows the love story of nick and charlie, two characters from solitaire.

all of alices projects feature a diverse cast, lgbt+ topics, mental heath issues and good old fashioned mental breakdowns. i would 100000000000% reccomend them to any human being, alive or dead (catch me reading iwbft in the afterlife)
