this isn't exactly a headcanon, but imagine if instead of immediately sorting first thing, all the first-year students lived together in one big first-year dorm and were sorted at the beginning of their second year. think how different things might have been if the kids had a year to just be kids and make friends without having inter-house friendships immediately torn apart upon exiting the train and loading them with expectations.

This cute idea was from @torakoneko -- thank you ! I believe it was for the Valentine’s Day comic but let’s be honest, Techie probably offer copper wire figurines to Matt all the time, ahah ! But the red wire part was too cute not to draw anyway ~ 

On a side note, if anybody could give me that Kylo Ren poster, it would be very appreciated

“Ssh, I’ve got you. You’re safe with me.”, techienician? thank you!

Matt makes a big show of being the protector, the defender, of the relationship–he’s tough enough to defend his Techie from anything that might frighten or upset him. Bad dreams, bad memories, bullies, you know it, Matt can just barrel in between the problem and Techie, like a huge, charging beast, daring anyone or anything to hurt him. 

It makes Matt feel proud, to be the one that Techie could turn to so reliably. Purposeful. Like a good partner, someone worth being with someone as smart and witty and cute as Techie. But rarely, every once in a while, Matt wishes that their roles could be reversed, just for an afternoon or an evening. 

Like today. He woke up with a headache that’s so powerful his ears feel like they’re ringing, and his temper, which isn’t the best to begin with, is shredded down to the barest minimum. He takes off for his quarters the second his shift is over, and barely undresses before setting aside his glasses and climbing into bed in the dark, pulling the pillow over his eyes to feel the cool, unslept-on part on his face. Absolute relief after the bustle and noise and light of the workday. It could only be better if he had some cold water….but getting up now that he’s settled is the hardest thing he can imagine doing right now. Matt swallows dryly, deciding he can wait. He just wants to sleep.

Hours pass before Techie’s done with his own shift. By this point he’s awake again, feeling better but not great, bleary more than anything. Techie thinks he’s asleep, though, because he hasn’t turned the lights on, though Matt knows he can see pretty well in the dark. He’s lying still enough to pass for asleep. It’s not until right this moment that he realizes that he’s got his own pillow under his head and Techie’s over his face, and the entire blanket cocooned around his whole body. When Techie sits on the bed next to him, he feels a pang of guilt. 

A cold hand touches the littlest slice of Matt’s exposed arm, and Matt jumps at the sensation.

“Shh, I’ve got you. You’re safe with me,” Techie says. There’s a slight sloshing sound, and Matt realizes his hand was so cool because he was holding a bottle of icy-cold water, and some painkillers. 

It’s a telling remark. Matt had not grown up having to flinch away from danger, the way Techie did, but to Techie, any flinch is a sign of something potentially harmful. He’s trying to be soothing. 

“Just a headache,” Matt protests, taking Techie’s pillow off his face and setting it back down where it belonged.

“I can still keep you safe,” Techie insists. “From headaches, anyway.”

Matt sits up and accepts the water and pills. “You can,” he says. “You are.”

“Will it bother you if I work?” Techie whispers in his ear. “I’ll be quiet.”

“Not at all.” He is mostly just pleased that he’s gotten something he wanted from Techie without having to ask, like Techie just can tell. As Techie works, he presses up close to where Matt lies drowsing, his feet against the back of Matt’s knees, as quiet as he promised but no less present.

This is really hard to pick. I don't care about being objective about these things -- I just like characters for different reasons.

(I do have one really hard and fast opinion, though -- Rainbow Dash is an amazing character.)
