I’ve reentered my anime era. I rewatched ouran high school host club and princess jellyfish then I watched yuri on ice for the first time. I’m thinking toradora next? I’m really looking for the cutesy relatively short anime that will break my heart when it’s over :)))

HIIII gio!!!! i finally got the time to watch anime and i hv been curretnyl rewatching my fav anime, which are mostly shounen. id love to get so recs on shoujo anime bc i want to get in to it!!! xoxo
Honestly, shoujo is as vast as it can be... so i'm going to recommend a few very different things because idk which genre you're looking for
Natsume Yuujinchou (my all-time favorite) - slice of life, supernatural, iyashikei - It is about an orphan boy who can see yokai and gets adopted by a family in the town his grandmother used to live in. He inherits his grandmother's "Book of Friends," a book full of the names of the yokai his grandmother defeated. This anime deals with loneliness, belonging, learning to trust others again, love, and hope.
Tumblr media
Akatsuki no Yona - fanatsy, action, romance - Yona is a naive and sheltered little princess living a perfect life alongside her childhood friends until one day her father gets murdered by the friend she was in love with. She is forced to flee the palace and face the world, collecting allies in her quest to come home and get her throne back. Also she is fucking badass.
Tumblr media
Kamisama Hajimemashita - fantasy, romance - Nanami has just recently become homeless after her father's gambling leaves them bankrupt. Wandering through the streets, she finds and rescues a man who promises to give her a home. When she gets to her new home, she realizes it is a shrine, and the man was actually a god who tricked her into becoming a new god and taking over his duties as god. Trying to leave, she gets trapped by his familiar, Tomoe, and is now bound to her divine duties while simultaneously having to learn how to deal with Tomoe.
Tumblr media
Akagami no Shirayukihime - fantasy, romance - Shirayuki is an apothecary on the run from becoming a concubine. She gets rescued by a prince and his two aids in the woods, and to repay her debt to them, she becomes an apothecary in the castle.
Tumblr media
Yubisaki to Renren - adult cast, romance - we follow Yuki, a hearing impaired university student, as she broadens her horizons meeting new friends and falling in love
Tumblr media
Ikoku Nikki - drama, josei (josei is like the adult version of shoujo, dealing with more heavy topics and targeted to an older audience) - this one hasnt aired yet, but it is from a manga I really love. Asa is a teenager who just lost her parents and now has to live with her aunt, Makio. Her aunt has always hated her mother so the two of them had never properly met before the funeral. Now they have to learn to live together while navigating through grief and loss.
Going by this short list you can already tell my favorite genre is fantasy, specially historical fantasy or yokai/gods stuff
And here are some of the classic romance shoujo that I feel like everyone from the 90s or 2000s have watched/heard about: Toradora, Ouran High School Host Club, Kimi ni Todoke, Kaichou wa Maid-sama, Fruits Basket, Ao Haru Ride

Finished my toradora rewatch. Huge swaths of it apparently went over my head the other times I rewatched it. I never realized how early Taiga started falling for Ryuji and how early she realized and became conflicted by it. I also misunderstood the weird UFO and Ghost analogy Minorin uses and her actions near the finale. The entire finale sequence apparently flew over my head too. I misunderstood the running away and their decision to come back AND Taiga's decision to leave. It's weird how I missed all that since this is like my favorite Romcom... and I not only watched the anime multiple times, I also looked for translations of the light novel.
I still think Kawashima's character is frustrating. She was both the most honest with her feelings and the most dishonest. She keeps putting a layer of sarcasm when she tells Ryuji that she likes him so the poor sap only thinks she's messing with him and then she gets annoyed that Ryuji doesn't get it. Stop with the riddles!
Just realizing that this story really likes women who sacrifice their happiness for others for some reason. Not only the main 3, but also Kitamura's crush, the President. The theme of "I'll refuse to tell the person I like that I like them because it will hurt someone else" for the President she didn't want Kitamura to throw everything out and pursue her. For Taiga she thinks she'll hurt both Ryuji and Minorin. For Minorin she thinks it will leave Taiga alone. For Kawashima... ????... it's implied it's because she's also worried about Taiga but she's so fucking frustrating to read.

this has been my past year of media
I watch The Hunger Games. There are no fat people. Characters are either rich and altering their bodies, or poor and starving so I guess? (as if starving doesn't often make people put on weight when they do have food)
I watch Succession. There are no fat people. Some people act like Shiv Roy's slim thick body type is body diversity. They're all rich people so I guess?
I watch Heartstopper. There are a couple fat people. This show prides itself on diversity so I would expect there be at least a couple.
I watch Sex Education. There are no fat people. This show also prides itself on diversity so.... you know...
I watch Beef. There are no fat people.
I watch a dozen random movies on Netflix with my mom. There are no fat people except maybe one comically horny woman who feels like a complete joke.
I watch Our Flag Means Death. There are a few fat people. This is unbelievably refreshing.
I watch The Bear. There is one fat person. He's basically comic relief all the time but he's sweet and people love him, so that's nice.
I watch Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. There are no fat people. The only fat characters are in the background or are villians/annoying one off characters.
I watch Daisy Jones and The Six. There are no fat people.
I rewatch one of my favourite animes, Toradora! There are no fat people
I watch Romantic Killer. There are no fat people.
I watch Dungeon Meshi. There are two stocky dwarves, and they're highly competent and respected. This is nice.

I found volume 1 of the Toradora light novel at Barnes and Noble and ended up buying it. I look forward to reading it but in the meantime, I figured I might as well rewatch the anime. The last time I watched this anime was back when I was in college in roughly 2014 so it's been awhile
I always found it adorkable the way Minori is always so extra about the way she's running/walking in the first opening and ending. It really shows off her dorky, playful personality for sure.

I’m rewatching toradora and it’s so good
Everyone else thinks “he’s” scary bc of how he looks and “he’s” the scary short chick’s dog?
The scary short chick is insecure about everything and lashes out to
Hold on I just saw a scene I don’t remember what the fuck hold on

Ik I’m already known for defending Toradora on here but I’ve been rewatching it (in sub for the first time actually) and wtf this show is genuinely so good lmao people are insane for hating on it to the degree that they do
it’s a tightly written show with really good complex characters, obviously it has some outdated or uninteresting scenes or minor plot points here and there, but overall it’s genuinely just good. like it’s an objectively well written show. And hottest take of all, Taiga literally isn’t even that bad. I made a whole post about how necessary the negative aspects of her personality are for her character development, but as I’m watching it again I’m like there’s actually no way people hold a grudge against this character for saying, like, 3 maximum actually mean things
When it comes to shows I first watched as a teenager I try to take my judgement of their quality with a grain of salt bc I know some of that could be nostalgia talking, but every time I watch Toradora again I’m like no this is actually excellent and everyone else is wrong

More physical media going out of print, including two that really shock me -- Cardcaptor Sakura and Toradora. We're increasingly at the mercy of whether licensing keeps getting renewed and whether the declining number of streaming services feel like keeping a show online if we ever want to rewatch something.
