Using your teeth to pull open the bottle cap top of the ice cold orange juice, you took a few huge mouthfuls as you waited for the stop light to turn green, the drink was cold and refreshing causing a shiver to run though your body as you placed the bottle on the passenger's seat. Today you were coming back from annual and yearly no boyfriends or husbands girls vacation weekend you and your best friend always planned since you were in high school.
The trip started out innocently just spending the day at the spa getting your nails done and relaxing, to only end up going clubbing last night and dancing on the table to when I grow up by the pussycat dolls in 6 inch stiletto heels. As much as you loved the girls' vacation and letting loose for a couple days, you couldn’t wait to get home and curl up next to your husband, with a spicy enemies to lovers book with your dog Ace cuddled into your side.
Ace is an old German shepherd that is also an ex police dog whose owner was killed in the line of duty, the poor dog was so confused on why his owner and handler didn’t come back, he would wait for his older owner to return, as time went on Ace grew more and more depressed he refused to work with anybody else or be social with other dogs.
It go so bad that the police department thought it would be better to put Ace up for adoption and hope he would find a loving forever home but Ace just stayed in his kennel hiding away, he refused to eat and would growl at anybody who came near him.
That was until he met your husband of 8 years Leon who was looking for a dog that could protect you while he was away on missions, but also he could play around with at the park or at home when he had time off, the moment the two of them meet they were inseparable and Leon rushed to adopt him that day and after waiting for a week you both welcomed Ace into your little family and you both became the dogs whole world.
Always coming for cuddles and acting like a huge baby even letting you put Leon’s sunglasses on him and take pictures, it filled your heart with so much joy when Ace started putting on weight and started looking healthier.
Then you have your sweet little Oreo who was just your average black cat with white little paws and little face markings with one marking on her chest that looks like a heart, she was a stray when you first found her huddled in a small box on a stormy night outside your mom’s bakery, she was so small and fragile you didn’t think she would make it through the night, she was really skinny and her fur was matted to her skin nearly, she must of been abandoned at a very young age which broke your heart.
She had no collar and no microchip so it was pointless trying to find her old owners. So that night you wrapped her up in your warm woolly scarf and took her home, where both you and Leon very gently brushed her fur, clipped her nails and gave her some food and water after you asked Leon to get some kitten food before you got home. She warmed up to you both but she mostly stuck to your side always wanting cuddles and pets.
You ended up adopting her a few days later after she passed all the vet checks and got her vaccinations, she was a little cautious of Leon since he smelt like Ace, but Ace was a good boy and let Oreo get used to him, even if it meant he got bit and clawed at a few times but slowly they became friends, then even shared Ace’s bed on cold nights and play with their toys with each other.
When the stoplight finally turned green you started driving down the main highway listening to the music that softly played in your car, distracting you from the slightly throbbing pain in your head from your dull hangover. The drive home was quick and you pulled into your garage within 10 minutes, the throbbing in your head subsided and you didn't feel as bad but you where really hungry.
Getting out you grabbed your bag and started heading inside to where you could hear Ace happily barking at the front door, you could even hear his tippy tappy paws, it caused you to smile thinking somebody was excited that you were home.
“Hey Baby.” You say happily after opening the front door, Ace was running around your legs, his tail wagging so fast it was almost like a dark blur as he was barking, it was so sweet, you heard Oreo meow from the small table by the door as if she was saying welcome home, putting your bag down you kneeled down and started petting ace and gave Oreo’s head a soft kiss.
“Yes yes I missed you guys too.” you say as Oreo rubbed her face on your cheek and Ace was nuzzling into your hand. “Where you talking to me sweetheart.” Your husband Leon says with a soft chuckle, causing you to look at him wide eyed before running over and hugging Leon tightly. “Your back early.” you say happily wrapping your arms around his neck, his large arms wrapped around your waist pulling your body closer to him.
“Surprise.” he says as you nuzzle into his chest, you were so glad your husband was home in one piece. “Why didn’t you tell me?” you whined softly hitting his shoulder causing him to laugh before he grabbed your smaller hand in his larger one. “Because I have a surprise for you.” he hints as he starts walking down the hallway of your house, you were a little confused but you followed your husband anyway.
Soon you found yourself outside your storage room, it was a spare bedroom you and Leon used for storage since it was pretty spacious and you didn't really use it, pulling out a key from his pocket Leon slid the key into lock and softly popped open the door. “Go inside.” Leon says, by his tone you could tell he was excited for you to see his surprise, pushing the door open you gasped softly, your one messy and chaotic storage room was turned into an in-home library.
There was black floor to ceiling bookshelves filled with your books and some new ones you recognized, there was also a small wooden ladder that travel down the bookshelves, a fluffy rug on the ground, your window seat was decorated with comfy pillows and a blanket, there was a small coffee table in the middle of the room with a container with bookmarks, colorful page tabs, highlighters fine tip pens, and a blackberry and guava scented candle accompanied by a box of matches, in the far right conner was a little coffee and tea station where you could make a hot drink and cozy up with one of your books, The room felt warm and cozy, you could feel your eyes tearing up at the sight.
“Leon…” you say quietly, your voice cracking slightly, you looked up at your husband teary eyed to which he softly cupped your cheek and kissed you softly. “Happy valentines day, I wanted you to have a place for all your books since they were kind of taking over the house.” he says with a chuckle as he rested his forehead on yours as his rough thumb stroked the soft skin of your cheek, it would explain the black paint smudge on his face.
“I love you so much.” you say wrapping your arms around his neck, sometimes you felt like you didn’t deserve Leon. “Not as much as I love you sweetheart.” he says as he gives your hips a slight squeeze.
Later That Night
You where cozied up in your little library reading one of the new books Leon had purchased you, it was a spicy romance novel that has a few dark twists, just as you were about to turn to the next page your library door opened and saw Leon was leaning against the doorframe with his arms crossed over his chest he must of come back from his night run with Ace.
When your gaze met his there was a soft and gentle look in his baby blue eyes as he took in the sight of you reading your book, the soft light of the lamp casting a warm glow on your skin, to him you where Leon’s little slice of heaven from the rest of the chaos in his world.
“What's this book about?” Leon asked with curiosity as he walked into your library and rested his chin on your shoulder, his stubble tickling the side of your face. “A spicy forbidden romance between a DEA agent and a criminal mastermind.” you tell him with a small giddy look on your face, it was no secret that you had an ‘interest’ in forbidden romances but Leon was no stranger to that.
“Do you like a man in uniform?” he mumbled deeply in your ear as he started to press soft kisses to your neck, a soft sigh left your lips as you bit your bottom lip.
“You know I do.” you say as your eyes flutter closed enjoying the loving affection from your husband, your book now just a passing thought. “How about you put your book down and get that pretty little ass upstairs.” Leon suggests against your ear, his voice a few octaves deeper causing you to squeeze your thighs slightly, you felt one of his hands make its way from your hip up your stomach and chest before he wrapped his fingers around your neck and gave it a light squeeze causing a soft whine to leave your lips.
“Okay.” you say looking up at him through your lashes, releasing your neck he placed an innocent kiss on your forehead before you started making your way to your shared bedroom upstairs.
Once you made it to your shared bedroom you could hear Leon doing something downstairs, but you just went and waited on your bed for him with your hands in your lap, after a couple moments you could hear his heavy footsteps coming up the steps “he must be wearing his boots.” you thought and when he came into view all the moisture in your mouth evaporated, thighs squeezed together and your pussy clenched.
There Leon stood in his work clothing which consisted of a navy blue short sleeve top that was tight around his biceps, dark grey cargo jeans and black combat boots, but what really caught your eyes was the grey tactical vest that was strapped around his front and back. You felt yourself gulping slightly as you looked at your husband up and down, “I’m in danger.” you thought but you couldn’t help but be excited.
“Like what you see doll?” Leon asked, there was a slight tease in his tone as he walked over to you and gently grabbed your chin with his gloved hand, you nodded your head not trusting your voice as you nuzzled your face into his hand, hearing a soft chuckle you felt Leon gently tug your face up before he gently kissed you, his lips were warm and soft his kiss gentle and sweet.
Feeling his hand move away from your chin you felt him start to strip you of your oversized shirt that was clearly his, only breaking the kiss for a second to tug his your shirt off then tossing it on the ground before reconnecting your lips again, you feel back onto your plush bed one of his knees in between your legs as he hovered over you.
Your fingers found their way into his dark hair and gently tugged on his roots, earning you a soft groan from your husband as he tugged your leggings off your legs leaving you in your bra and panties. When Leon finally broke the kiss you looked up at each other breathing heavily, nothing but love and affection swimming in both your eyes for each other.
One of his gloved hands rests on your cheek, his thumb tracing your bottom lip sticking your tongue out slightly you ran it up the front of his glove before taking his gloved thumb into your mouth and gently sucking.
“And you say I'm a tease princess.” Leon groaned, cheekily you gently bit his thumb and your teeth leaving a little imprint in his glove, before you leaned up and kissed him then used your strength to push Leon over onto the other side of the bed then straddle his waist, you felt his eyes on you but you where on a mission you wanted to pay Leon back for the library and the thoughtfulness then went into the idea.
You unclipped his tactical vest and placed on the ground be your bed before you trailed gentle kisses down his clothed chest and stomach as your hands worked on unbutton his pants and tugging them down his legs leaving him in his underwear.
When you finally reached the top of his underwear that had a wet patch, you gently tugged them down revealing his hard cock that was leaking precum everywhere, you looked up at Leon as if to ask permission Leon nodded his head and ran his fingers through your hair and held it in a makeshift ponytail so your hair didn’t get in your eyes.
Smiling soft you let your tongue run up the side before you wrapped your lips around the tip and slowly began to bob your head you could feel every vein and ridge, he was heavy on your tongue but there was a small comfort, you made yourself at home placing your hands on his muscular thighs as you set a smooth pace.
Slowly bobbing your head occasionally he would hit the back of your throat, causing tears to prick your eyes but you blinked them away quickly.
Above you could hear Leon groaning and giving you soft praises of “such a good girl” and “feels so good darling.” the praise sent heat to your cheeks and kept you going, you wanted to make him feel good, you wanted to be his good girl.
You could feel your jaw was being to hurt slightly when your suddenly pulled off, breathing heavily saliva coating your slightly swollen lips a soft whine leaving your throat as you looked at your husband with a pout, he was breathing heavily his cheeks were slightly pink.
“Want to make you feel good too.” Leon says before you can think about what he said he pulls your lower half over his face, his stubble tickling the inside of your thighs, you could feel his warm breath on the wet patch of your panties causing you to clench around nothing and a soft whine to leave your lips.
When you felt him move your panties to the side and his tongue ran up your folds, a soft moan left your lips as you slightly arched your back. You could feel the heat running through your body as he feasted on you, as if he was in his own little world with his tongue deep inside you.
Feeling his wrap his arms around your hips to keep you in place, you went back to giving him the same pleasure, your pillowy lips wrapping around his cock again and bobbing your head at a steady pace with your cheeks slightly sucked in.
You could feel him twitching in your mouth, you pulled away slightly and swirled your tongue around his tip causing his hips to jolt slightly you knew he was close, but so where you as your thighs shook slightly around his head.
“Fuck doll cumming.” Leon groaned before you pushed him all the way down your throat, a few tears rolling down your cheeks at the sudden intrusion but you ignored the pain as your throat muscles tightened around him.
Leon came down your throat with a deep groan and even slightly bucked his hips, you soon followed and came with a loud moan, pulling away slightly you breathed heavily and wiped your mouth. Leon was breathing heavily but there was a huge grin on his face as he moved so now he was hovering over you.
“Another round princess?” he asked as he reached into the bedside table and pulled out a silver square, you could barely pull a thought together but you nodded your head and let your husband position you how he wanted, lucky this time you were laid on your stomach with a pillow under your hips, your head resting against your pillow and soft hum leaving your lips as you where in a comfortable position.
You heard the sound of the condom packet being torn open and the lid of a lube bottle being cracked opened, it wasn’t that you weren't used to Leon’s size but sometimes it made it more comfortable, you heard the sound of the rest of his clothes hit the ground beside the bed as he stripped off, he even carefully took your soaked panties off and tossed them onto the pile of his clothes.
“Cold.” you whined softly as a shiver went down your spine, you felt Leon placed a small blob over your slit and gently rub it in. “I know sweetheart, you'll warm up soon princess I promise.” Leon says before you felt him at your entrance, you closed your eyes and waited for the familiar stretch, a soft moan left your lips as he slowly pushed in being careful and soon bottomed out a soft groan leaving both of your lips as you felt each other.
“Fuck.” you cursed as you placed your face into your pillow, no matter how many times you take him, he always overwhelms you with how good he makes you feel.
“Are you ok?” Leon asked when you felt him gently kiss your shoulder, when he was this gentle with you it made your heart skip a beat, you nodded your head and gave him a smile as you leaned up and softly kissed her cheek.
“I’m ok but I do have one request?” you say when you notice he is still wearing the gloves on his hands, you saw him glance between you and his hands a small smirk on his face as he already knew what you were asking him for, moving his arm his bicep wrapped snug around your neck giving a soft squeeze Leon began to thrust slowly, teasingly but you here in heaven with his bicep around your neck.
“Such a dirty little girl, do you like it when I choke you? Deprive you of oxygen until you nearly pass out.” Leon asked his tone was mean and nasty as the pace of his thrusts picked up, your brain was going fuzzy you couldn’t focus on anything else but him.
You loved it when Leon was your kind and sweet husband but deep deep down a part of you liked it when he was mean and dominant, it made you feel so small being under him, his body towering over yours, his muscles and strength double if not triple then yours and it was such a turn on.
“Yes I do.” you choked out as you looked up at your husband, there was a smirk on his face as he thrusted into your soaked pussy, your gummy walls sucking him in and never wanting him to leave.
“Open.” he demanded and you opened your mouth without hesitation then you felt Leon spit into your mouth making you feel even dirtier, but you loved it and grinned up at him almost as if you were a crazed woman, you swallowed before you opened your mouth again and stick out your tongue.
“Fuck I love you so much.” Leon groaned his voice deeper as he tightened his bicep around your neck, causing small spots to come into your version. You knew your safe word but you didn’t want to use it, this feeling felt like pure ecstasy and you were floating. “You close darling?” you heard Leon ask and you nodded your head feeling the familiar tightening in your stomach.
“Yes.” you choked out in between moans, your thighs were trembling and your head was feeling foggy. “Cumming.” you cry out as you let out a high pitch moan and came around Leon, you felt him soon follow. After a couple minutes you slowly felt him pull out then discard the used condom in the rubbish.
an hour later
You were freshly showered and dressed in one of Leon’s shirts and a pair of panties, you both were relaxing in bed cuddled into Leon with Ace sleeping in his dog bed next to the window and Oreo resting and purring in between you and Leon.
“I wasn’t too rough was I?” you heard Leon asked as he was tracing his thumb on your hip bone under his shirt you were wearing. “No, you were perfect as always.” you say you press a kiss to the top of his bare chest that had a few old scars, this caused him to smile and pull you closer to him being careful of Oreo as he doesn’t want to be attacked by her again.
“Happy Valentine's Day doll.” Leon says as he kisses your head and makes sure both you and Oreo are comfortable on the bed, “Happy Valentine's Day honey.” you say as you leaned up and softly kissed him, grateful to have a husband as kind, caring and gentle as Leon….

The last and the newest world by XKandDF is called Miniportis. It is also steep world, like Hillspatch from the previous post, but it has darker colors, more rainy weather, rocky shores with cliffs, and it gives very Twinbrook vibes. I think there’s more public lots and small parks, than in previous world too.
It’s also tiny world and uses probably only University expansion pack. More pictures and relation under the cut.
...
Most houses are squished behind city hall, near corner of the world. These small pathways gives very cozy and cameral effect. It’s also very decadent to live on the literal edge of the world. xd
The large green building at the beginning of the alley with small houses, was actually a library, it’s spacious as for lot this size. It has three floors.
As you can guess, houses here are quite small, but I still like the design and atmosphere.
There are several district with various architecture though. On opposite side of world you can find more modern houses, with more space inside.
There’s even gym on this small district.
What I found really cute, is small replica of Goth Family house from The Sims 1, it’s near the cemetery. It’s sadly too small and doesn’t have kitchen, but textures inside were recreated perfectly comparing with original.
But if you’re looking for something really chic, then check out these modern buildings near entrance to office area. They also have three floors.
This office complex get me quite lost the first time when I was looking at it. Rabbit holes are placed on top of each other, and between them there are a few secret places to discover.
For example, there’s hidden spa somewhere inside.
The entrance to the science lab is hidden also. It’s under floor of hospital rabbit hole. Floors doesn’t vanish when you close up, so I had to tilt camera to see it. Keeping eyes on your sims might be tricky in this environment, but I like it. It’s definitely something different.
If you’re looking for something bigger, for family type of gameplay, then this alley, with victorian houses, might be for you. Something similar was in previous world by this creator.
This time it gets more floral, path is wider, and interiors seems bigger.
Central place in this town is destined for festival park. If I recall coreclty, it was called Rosebud Plaza. Another reference to The Sims 1.
And when it comes to other nooks and special places on fresh air, these bellow are my favorites:
- small gazebo with lake, between science lab and modern houses
- a terraced balconies around restaurant and grocery store
- waterfall under cliffs, with a place to relax
- terraced garden opposite school
- a house that looks like from Twikki Island from The Sims 2 Bon Voyage
and many more :)
I didn’t show all places that I wanted, this overview would be too long. There are also other charming areas like mine entrance, the inside of dome near science lab, few parks in the middle, houses behind theatre and probably even more. As for for world this tiny, it has so many things to see.
It’s hard to show everything by screenshots, my laptop isn’t good enough for video rendering, but maybe someone will make overview in video form as well.
I would only recommend mods by Nraas like overwatch and maybe also error trap. This world was built only with base game and University EP, but when you have Pets installed, a wild horses might block in some places, so better to have that in mind.
I hope this overview was useful to you, thanks for reading. 💛
(one more view at the end, cause why not)

Great Snowy Mountains
Some days ago I saw a beautiful photo taken in Daisetsuzan National Park, Hokkaido and I had to realize that since I became a fan of Golden Kamuy, Daisetsuzan reminds me of the 5th episode from the 2nd season of the anime. This is one of my favourite episodes, titled Hara no Naka (腹の中) – ’In the Belly’. It has a lot of exciting scenes and several of my favourite characters show up as well. Anyone who saw this episode can guess how to use up a deer when a storm breaks out… and what happens to a human caught by Pawci-Kamuy :)
I had the idea that I will write an informative post about this wonderful and dangerous mountain range, so I gathered some information about its merciless climate and I brought some pictures from the anime and manga as well. You can virtually explore some mountain tracks or ski trails of the area and find some stunning views via Google Maps. This is how Daisetsuzan appears in the anime: at first we see the lower area in front of the mountain region and then the mighty mountains, Daisetsuzan itself:
Daisetsuzan (大雪山) means ’great snowy mountains’ and is located in the middle of Hokkaido. The name refers not just to one certain mountain but to the wide volcanic mountain range in the area. It has fourteen peaks higher than 2000 m, the most highest among them are: Asahidake (2291 m), Hokuchindake (2244 m) and Hakuundake (2229 m). The Daisetsuzan range and its surrounding area creates the Daisetsuzan National Park which is the largest national park in Japan, founded in 1934. Its wildlife is rich with brown bears, deers and small mammals.
At summer season nature wakes up as shown in the anime:
Daisetsuzan has its own special climate: after a cool summer, autumn quickly arrives with colored leaves in September and snowfall begins already in October. The winter here is very long and harsh. These are the seasons of Daisetsuzan:
Spring (June)
In spring the snow begins to melt, although snowfall is not unusual even in June. The top of the mountains are still covered with snow, but some trails are ready to be reopened again after the long winter season.
Summer (July & August)
This short summer is the most ideal season to go hiking and explore the alpine zone of Daisetsuzan. Almost all snow disappears and we can enjoy the beaufitul scenery for what Ainu people call this place Kamuy Mintar (’playground of the gods’). Nature also awakes: this is the season of vivid flower fields, attracting rare butterfly species and small mountain mammals (like chipmunks and pikas as above). Although this is the best season to hike the high mountain region, the cool summer weather can be dangerous as well. Sudden windstorms or rainfalls can occur anytime and climbers can easily lose the trail due to thick fog.
Autumn (September)
Daisetsuzan shows us the earliest colored leaves in Japan, because momiji (紅葉) starts already in September. Red Japanese rowans, yellow birch trees and green dwarf pines cover the slopes with vivid colors.
Winter (from October till May)
Winter season is eight months long. Snow arrives in October and the particularly severe weather with extreme cold and wind lasts from November to April. According to daisetsuzan.or.jp: „In general, air temperature drops by 0.6℃ with every 100 m climb in elevation, and drops by 0.6-0.7℃ for every degree of latitude travelled northward from the equator. The apparent temperature felt by the human body is also said to drop by 1℃ for every 1 m/s increase in wind speed. Thus, in a 2,000-meter class mountain with a wind speed of 5 m/s, humans will feel a temperature 17℃ lower than that at the foot of the mountain.” Winter hikers can get lost easily and they are at risk of hypothermia as well.
Daisetsuzan National Park is rich in geographical features including mountains, volcanoes, gorges, rivers, waterfalls, hot springs. I would like to pick three of them which appear in Golden Kamuy as well.
Tenninkyo Gorge (天人峡 - Tenninkyou)
Tenninkyo is located at the western foothills of Daisetsuzan. It is a gorge surrounded by giant basalt columns, created by active volcanoes 30,000 years ago. It is also a popular spa destination due to the high-quality hot spring water of the area. In Golden Kamuy, Sugimoto’s group is approaching Daisetsuzan from the direction of Tenninkyo with the airship.
Hagoromo Waterfall (羽衣の滝 – Hagoromo no taki)
Hagoromo is the longest waterfall in Hokkaido with its 270 meters. Its water showers down from seven levels of cliffs and the scenery is most beautiful in autumn with colored leaves around. In Golden Kamuy, the airship crashes down in this area (not far from Tenninkyo mentioned above) and Sugimoto’s group decides to climb up the mountains of Daisetsuzan, running away from the soldiers chasing them.
Mount Asahi (旭岳 - Asahidake)
Sugimoto’s group successfully manage to climb quite high in the mountain but they got caught by a dangerous windstorm. In the morning they sneak out from the corpses of the deers (yes, actually this is how they managed to stay alive) and they find themself near by Asahidake, the highest peak in Hokkaido (2291 m). Asahidake is an active volcano, nowadays with hot spring resort, ropeway and ski resort.
The story of Golden Kamuy starts in February 1907, when Asirpa and Sugimoto met each other. In my estimation, Sugimoto’s group crossed over Daisetsuzan in July which is confirmed by the awakened nature and lack of snow as well. Summer or not, our favourite characters had no other choice than to fight with the elements at Daisetsuzan.
I also listed some Japanese expressions from the anime:
yama o koeru (山を越える): to cross over the mountain
nigeru (逃げる): to run away
tenki ga kuzureru (天気が崩れる): the weather turns bad
kaze ga tsuyoku naru (風が強くなる): the wind gets stronger
ame ga furisou da (雨が降りそうだ): it seems it is going to rain
yuki ga nokottenai (雪が残ってない): there is no snow left
teitaion-shou (低体温症): hypothermia
shika (鹿): deer
douji ni (同時に): simultaneously
hinan suru (避難する): to find a shelter

A Kid from Queens Part 20
Pairing: Peter Parker x Stark!Reader
Info: CA: Civil War Era. Tony Stark enlists his daughter to find the web slinging spider in Queens.
Word count: 2.6k
Warnings: Language
A/N: For my sweet, sweet anon- Happy Birthday my love! This is for you, as you wish.
Any and all feedback is much appreciated!
Masterlist linked in my bio. Taglist in the reblog.

With the gala a little more than a week away, you began to make your preparations. You’d already gotten your dress and had it fitted with your tailor. That left Peter. It wouldn’t be a stretch for you to assume that he’d never been to a gala before. Meaning most likely, he also didn’t have a suit. Or one that wasn’t a hand-me-down.
Of course, you’d already picked out the perfect Tom Ford black suit for him. You were the one that invited him and wanted him to come, the least you could do is get him a nice suit that he can wear for years to come. For that to happen, it would have to be tailored to perfection, and luckily you knew just the place.
Yes, you already had all of his measurements from his Spider-Man suit so you could just give them that, but where’s the fun in that? Everyone deserves a private audience with the best tailor in New York at least once in their life. The thrill of almost being impaled with tiny pins is completely worth the reward of having something made so perfectly for you. To have an item that no other person owns, and only fits you. Your body gets to be the canvas that the garment is painted on.
You’d already made the appointment when you texted Peter.
Are you free after school today?
Nearly an hour later, in what you suspected was a passing period, you got a reply.
Yeah, why?
You smirked as you typed your response, you wanted this to be a surprise.
You’ll see ;)
Peter shook his head with a smile at your cryptic message, if he knew one thing, it was to always expect the unexpected from a Stark.
As the final bell rang, he leisurely made his way from his locker out to the entrance of the school. He walked absentmindedly, hands in his pockets before he looked up and his eyes grew wide.
On the street in front of the school, you were leaning against your convertible. Sunglasses on, arms crossed as Flash stood before you. Your body language was a clear indication that you weren’t amused with Flash’s feeble attempts to flirt with you.
As you looked up and your eyes met with Peter's, a smile spread across your face as you wiggled your fingers in a wave. Flash whipped around to see what, or rather who, had drawn your attention.
“Penis Parker, your ride’s here.” Flash teased as Peter approached the car. You slowly lifted your sunglasses to the top of your head.
“You know Flash,” You took a long breath, drawing out your words, “For a straight guy, you really love to talk about Peter’s dick.”
Laughter erupted around you from the small crowd of Flash’s cronies that had gathered to watch him shoot his shot with a Stark. You lowered your sunglasses as you held your smirk, Flash’s face turned beet red and he stormed off with a huff.
“I think that was the greatest thing I’ve ever witnessed.” Peter beamed, a giddy smile on his face. You walked around the hood of the car and hopped back into the driver seat.
“I was just stating a fact,” You chuckled, “Hop in.”
Peter did as instructed, closing the door behind him. You kicked the car into drive and sped off.
“Did Flash ask why you were here?” Peter asked curiously, and you nodded in response.
“I told him Tony Stark needs Peter’s help on a project for his internship and asked me to pick him up right away,” You smirked, “That shut him up.”
Peter chuckled, imagining the look on Flash’s face when he realized that Peter wasn’t making any of this Stark Internship stuff up, and that Tony Stark actually knew who he was.
“So where are we really headed? Your text was very mysterious.” He smiled, you turned to face him once you’d reached the stop light.
You lifted your glasses and smiled at him, your eyes meeting. You couldn’t believe the two of you were here like this. A month ago you weren’t even speaking, and as much as that broke your heart it was worth it. The hiding and sneaking around was worth it to be here now with him, driving around New York with the top down, not caring who saw you.
You reached to take his hand, giving it a squeeze. Peter leaned closer to you and you met him halfway, your lips meeting for a moment in a chaste kiss.
A honk from the car behind you forced you apart as the light turned green.
“Let’s get a move on!” The driver yelled.
“We’re having a moment here!” You yelled back, earning a middle finger in response as you took your foot off the break.
“I love this fucking city,” You laughed, and Peter joined in.
“Are you gonna answer my question or am I supposed to guess?” Peter smirked, his hand still in yours.
“Queens.” You answer, glancing at Peter and seeing him raise a brow, “We’re going to a gala, and you need a suit. We’re going to my tailor.”
“So does that mean I get to see your dress?” He wiggles his brows, causing you to laugh.
“No, it’s a surprise.” You shook your head, using the heel of your hand to turn the steering wheel, taking you onto the Queensboro bridge. The first place you’d met Peter. If your father hadn’t enlisted you to find the webslinger, you would have never met him. Or maybe you would have. Maybe you were destined to meet and no matter what path you followed it would always lead to him.
“Where is this gala again?” Peter asked after a moment, he had been glancing out the car at the bridge. You wondered if he was also thinking about your chance encounter.
“Inside Belvedere Castle in Central Park.” You answer, it had recently reopened but you’ve never been to an event inside. It normally housed exhibits or small private parties. You’d be lying if you said you weren’t excited, and a little nervous. You didn’t want anything to go wrong, you needed a good night, especially considering what had happened last time. You knew you’d be safe with Peter by your side, but you just wanted one smooth night with no heroes required.
“Cool,” Peter nodded, having never been there himself. How he got wrapped up in a life of billionaires and crime fighting, he’d never know.
“So I figured we could get some food after the fitting? And maybe bring May some, because we need to do some schmoozing.” You said, causing Peter to raise a brow.
“Why?” He asked, curiously.
“Soo... they always book rooms in a hotel near the venue for after the gala. They collect the most donations at the bar of the afterparty and this year they picked The Plaza. They gave me a room, so I thought we could stay there, order room service, kinda have a mini vacation.” You explained, hoping this wouldn’t be too much. A gala is one thing, but spending the night in a big fancy hotel is another.
“That sounds amazing!” Peter beamed.
“But,” You said, drawing out the word, “I don’t want May to kill me, so we kinda need her blessing.”
“Yeah that’s a good idea. I don't think she’ll mind.” He said casually.
“I’m prepared with more shoes if she says no,” You laughed, but you weren’t kidding.
“I’m sure that won’t be necessary.” Peter chuckled, shaking his head.
“I don’t know... If my son asked to spend a night in a fancy hotel with his girlfriend I’d be a little hesitant.” You shrugged.
That was the first time Peter had heard you refer to yourself as his girlfriend, and that was the first time you’d said it outloud. You liked the way it sounded, you could get used to that.
- - - - - 🕷 - - - - -
After a fitting full of laughter and you shamelessly checking out Peter’s ass, the two of you were sitting at the kitchen table eating dinner and chatting.
“Hey guys,” May says as she walks in the door, “Oo that smells good.”
“We got you some.” You smile, pointing back to the box on the counter.
“Aw, you guys.” She smiled as she made her way to the kitchen, ruffling Peter’s hair on the way.
“How was work?” Peter asked Aunt May while he tried to flatten his hair.
“Good, good. What are you kids up to?” She asked, taking a bite.
“We were just talking about that charity gala I told you about.” Peter said.
“Oh right, the childhood cancer one.” She nodded, chewing.
“Yeah, so Y/N was just telling me that they gave us a room in the Plaza for that night, but we wanted to make sure that was ok with you first.” He said, and this was the moment of truth.
“I don’t know Peter, let me think about it.” May said, just as you’d suspected.
Peter looked at you, worry evident in his eyes, he wasn’t expecting her to say that. You shook your head in a “don’t worry, I got this, follow my lead” kinda way.
You picked up your phone, and stared at it for a moment, forming your plan.
“Oh shoot,” You muttered, pretending to read and scroll through something on your phone.
“What is it?” Peter asked, looking over your shoulder, seeing the screen was black as you continued to tap on it.
“I forgot I had booked a salon and spa appointment for tomorrow but I have a meeting with the Robotics Board upstate,” You explained, turning and speaking directly to Peter.
“Can you get it moved?” He asked, playing along.
“No, it’s nonrefundable,” You shook your head, and went back to swiping on the blank screen before pretending like a brilliant idea just popped in your head, “Aunt May, why don’t you go?”
“Me?” She asked, surprised.
“I mean, it will just go to waste otherwise and I can’t make it. We’re starting trials on new nano-tech prototypes so it’s probably going to take all day.” You explained. If this whole engineering and CEO thing didn’t work out, you might have to go into acting, because you were killing this.
“Well... I guess if it’s gonna go to waste. I haven’t been to the spa in forever.” May smiled. Hook, line, sinker.
“Perfect, problem solved!” You smiled, and quickly changed the subject back to Peter’s day at school to not seem too suspicious.
Now we wait.
- - - - - 🕷 - - - - -
The three of you talked for hours, about life, about school, about work. It felt good, normal even. Like this was something you could get used to. Peter and his Aunt accepted you so quickly into their world and their lives. You felt like you’ve been doing this for years, like you’ve known each other for years. They didn’t treat you like the daughter of a billionaire, they just treated you like Y/N.
Before you knew it, it was late and about time for you to head home. When you were with Peter time seemed to fly by. You were gathering your things when May spoke up.
“When’s this gala again?” She asked Peter, and you knew your plan was coming to fruition.
“Friday.” He answered.
“The Plaza you said?” She asked, and the two of you nodded in response.
She sighed, knowing you’d both be safe there and it was close to the venue.
“Ok.” She nodded and both of your faces lit up. It worked!
“But no alcohol.” She pointed at both of you with a stern face.
“No alcohol.” You and Peter repeated in unison, nodding along. That wouldn’t be a problem, you’d learned your lesson from last time you were drunk around Peter.
“No drugs.” She maintained her protective stare.
“No drugs.” You both nodded.
So far the bar was pretty low. If it were your father he’d be saying ‘No hacking government agencies, no lazers, and don’t do anything I would do’ which really took a lot off the list.
“And use protection.” May said finally, your eyes going wide. Peter dropped his head into his hands.
“May....” He groaned in embarrassment. You hoped your cheeks weren’t betraying you and turning a bright red. You never expected that to come out of May’s mouth.
“I’m just saying. You’re both adults, I just want you to be careful.” She answered, and you smiled and nodded awkwardly.
“I’ll um, I’ll walk you out.” Peter pointed to the door, and you followed him.
Peter was silent on the trip from the apartment to the elevator.
“Told you we’d need the spa day,” You smirked, trying to cheer him up. He still looked mortified by May’s comment.
“You know, my father would have said something much worse, so you shouldn’t be embarrassed.” You tried, comfortingly grabbing onto his arm.
“I know, I just... I don’t want you to think that’s the only reason I want to go. Especially after what Thomas said-” Peter began to ramble, but you cut him off.
“Hey, hey. I know you Peter. I know you’re not like that. I don’t want you to worry about that. We’re in no rush. It’ll happen when the time is right.” You said, still surprised that clearly what Thomas had said was weighing on him so heavily. You knew he’d said it just to get under Peter’s skin, but you couldn’t let him win.
“Ok.” He nodded, seeming to be convinced by your words as the two of you stepped off the elevator onto the first floor.
“Now we can have a relaxing night out where you don’t have to lie about where you’re going.” You smiled, trying to lighten the mood as you were approaching the door.
“Yeah you’re right, I’m sorry.” Peter shook his head for even bringing up Thomas. You grabbed his arm once more, stopping him from opening the door. He turned back to you, and furrowed his brows slighting in anticipation.
“There’s no need to apologize for caring, Peter. It’s sweet.” You assured him, and he smiled. He bent down to kiss you before leading you out to your car.
“Text me when you get home safe.” Peter instructed as he opened your car door for you, a true gentleman.
“I will, I’ll see you Friday. I actually do have a meeting for the Robotics Board tomorrow. Now I have to go book May a salon and spa appointment. Maybe I’ll throw in a manicure for good measure.” You rambled as you got into the car and started the engine, lowering the window as Peter closed the door.
“You’re gonna spoil her.” He teased, leaning into the open window.
“Who else am I going to spoil? Unless you want some Jimmy Choos and a mani pedi?” You teased back, making Peter chuckle.
“Drive safe.” He kissed you once more before backing up back onto the sidewalk.
“Bye.” You smiled with a wink before pulling out onto the street.
Once you had returned home and gotten into your pjs you raised your phone to take a selfie. Snapping the picture, you sent it to Peter to let him know you’d made it home safe.
Proof of life ;)
Almost immediately you saw the three flashing dots appear as Peter typed his reply.
Cute pjs, goodnight, don’t let the spiders bite.
You chuckled, shaking your head at your phone screen.
I don’t think that’s how the saying goes lol, stay safe on patrols tonight x
Pulling your blanket over yourself as you settled into bed, you heard your phone ding.
I always am ;)
You shook your head, that boy was going to be the death of you.

6 Most Amazing Places You Can Visit In Bali
Bali – Indonesia’s Paradise!
Bali is not just a place but definitely a state of mind – It is the most beautiful island of Indonesia that will conjure amazing thoughts of the tropical forests surrounded by blue waters, instilling a spiritual feeling in your soul and a perfect balance of the mind with the body. There are thousands of tourists who visit Bali every year to enjoy the serenity that is offered by the turquoise water and palm trees. For the native people of Bali, their religion is one of the most important things and an integral part of their lives. The religious aspect of the native people of Bali, the entire island would impart a spiritual feeling all around.
Well, it’s not surprising to know that the main religion of the native Balinese is Hindu dharma which also blends other beliefs such a Javanese, and Buddhism.
Having visited Bali several times, the mystic locations have inspired me to share some of the best places that you can explore and enjoy with not just your romantic partner but also with your friends and family. Bali, according to the tourists, is considered the most evocative as well as most popular destination of the vast Indonesian archipelago. As soon as you will step into the mesmerizing land of Bali, you would feel a spark in your mind-body, and soul. It will make you feel intoxicated and away from the hustle-bustle of city life, routine work, and stressful life.
The capital of Bali – Denpasar, is the most fascinating place that includes white-sand beaches and amazing hinterlands. The people who are looking forward to surfing in Bali, contemplate the place as Macca and love to spend their entire trip exploring different beaches and surfing.
I have listed some of the best places that you can explore when you are in Bali!
#1 The Place That Is Topping The List – Pura Tanah Lot:
Pura Tanah Lot is a religious place that is approximately 20 to 22 km from Kuta and lies in the northwest direction. Pura Tanah Lot is considered the most iconic temple or spiritual location of Bali. The Pura Tahna Lot is surrounded by spectacular sea and stunning rocks where the waves hit the rock and create a captivating panorama.
The Pura Tanah Lot is considered one of the most sacred temples on the island. There are numerous solo travelers, families on tours, traveling friends, and other tourists who love to visit the Pura Tanah Lot temple mostly during the evening and view the beautiful sunset.
Tourists find their way to the temple from various places such as Legian or Sanur or even Kuta. Along the way, just like other tourists, you can find several souvenir sellers where you can buy some really amazing things for memories.
If you want to go deep into the history of the Pura Tanah Lot temple then it was built in the 16th century. The inspiration for the temple was embraced by the priest Nirartha. The temple was built by the local fishermen who lived near the shore of the sea.
Being a foreigner (tourists), you won’t be allowed to enter the temple because it is the belief of the native people that the temple will lose its sanctity if outsiders enter it. But don’t be disheartened, you would be able to enjoy the view of the temple and experience peace by taking a walk around the temple, taking photos, and completely soaking yourself in the beauty of the place.
Once you have viewed all the temples and various sacred shrines on the island, you can have a relaxing time at the cliff-top cafe – Kopi Luwak. It is quite popular among tourists because of the tasty meals, beverages, and friendly ambiance.
TOP TIP: The backdrop of the restaurant and cafe offers you Instagram-worthy photo ops which you can instantly click and upload on your Instagram account.
Traveler Tip: While visiting the temples and shrines in Bali, make sure you are dressed respectfully – respecting the decorum of the place, such as wearing a sarong and sash.
#2 Enjoy The Scenic Beauty Of Mount Batur: Mount Batur
Trekking in Bali sounds really amazing, isn’t it? But do you the exact location where trekking would not just be an adventurous activity but also fun? – Mount Batur!
You, along with your group can trek up to the highest peak of Mount Batur that is almost 1700 to 1800 meters above the ground. Trekking on Mount Batur will give you a thrill that you would never get to experience anywhere else in the world. Besides, the view of Bali from the top of Mount Batur will be just stunning. If not trekking, you can experience the beautiful sunrise as well as the sunset behind the tall, wide lush green mountains.
Mount Batur is actually an active volcano and is situated in the central highlands of Bali, in the Kintamani district. It is considered a sacred place by the native Bali people and even you would feel the piousness of the place. Hiking or trekking on Mount Batur is always on the top ‘to-do’ list of tourists. The trekking path or the trail is well marked so that the people traveling through do go get lost or confused while coming back. To make the trek more interesting, these trekking guides will provide you breakfast of delicious eff, bread, and hot beverages that are cooked directly from the steam of the volcano.
Besides Mount Batur, you would get to witness the beauty of the lake Batur which is also considered as the one and only source of irrigation in the entire region. The view of lake Batur from the top is completely stunning and mesmerizing.
Travel Tip: If you have already planned for trekking on Mount Batur, you would have to ensure that you are using high-quality trekking shoes and have proper warm clothes as the temperature in the morning time would be extremely low.
You can get a perfect pair of trekking shoes from either Amazon or Flipkart. Just have a look.
Along the trail of Mount Batur, you can also visit the famous temple of Pura Ulun Danu Batur. This temple is situated in the northwest direction of lake Batur. Surrounding the temple, you would get to experience a therapeutic soak or a hot bath in the hot springs.
#3 Temple – Pura Ulun Danu Bratan
If you want to witness the beauty of the picturesque temple of Bali, then visit a small island that lies on the western shore of Lake Bratan. It is located in the cool breeze highlands of central Bali. The temple was built in the 17th-century and it is among the top places to visit when you are in Bali. The temple is having an amazing scenic beauty because of the backdrop offered by the Gunung Bratan. The temple is having a thatched appearance which is reflected in the waters of the lake and makes the entire location mesmerizing. During the air pressure and breeze, the water level of the lake rises and at that time, the temple seems to float on the surface of the lake.
The lake is very important to the native people living there because it is the best source of drinking water and even for irrigation the water from the lake is used. An entire temple is a sacred place of the Devi Danu. The people of Bali consider her the goddess of water and due to her, everyone is getting clean drinking water.
Beside the temple complex, you could see the statue of Budhha exactly on the left side of the temple – sitting in the meditation position over a lotus structure. The status of the Buddha explains that the people of Bali have completely adopted the beliefs of Lord Buddha and follow them religiously.
To view the best beauty of this Bali temple, you must visit the place in the morning. The resign run spreads the soft sunlight and the cool mist in the air will mesmerize you. The tourists who are interested in visiting the temple from inside can hire a canoe and paddle out on the lake.
The Botanical Garden Of Bali!
The Bali Botanical Garden: If you have visited the temple Pura Ulun Danu Bratan, you can move ahead to visit the Botanical Garden of Bali. The Botanical Garden of Bali is also known as the Kebun Raya Bali. Here you can observe the bamboo forest, begonias, orchid collection, and medicinal or herbal plants. Alongside the Botanical Garden Of Bali, you will be able to go to Bali’s Treetop Adventure Park – it would be a great place not just for the kids but also for the adults. There are multiple ziplines or Tarzan swings for adventurous activities and also a perfectly designed suspension bridge.
To Get The Exact Address Of The Place – Jalan Bedugul – Singaraja, Candikuning, Baturiti, Kabupaten Tabanan.
#4 Experience The Serenity Of The Nusa Beach: If you want to escape from all the sightseeing trips and tours of Bali and spend some quality time with your family or friends, then you can visit the Nusa Dua Beach. Just imagine, you are having the glass of your cool drink in your hands, reading a book, relaxing on the recline sun lounger, and experiencing the soothing feeling of the white sand. Isn’t it all enthralling? Well, it is certainly! You can visit the private peninsula of Bali and choose anyone from the luxurious resorts to feel the pristine sand of Bali and the cool breeze.
The staff of the resort is extremely proactive and they make sure that the resorts are not polluting the place in any way. Even they are taking special care of the white care and keep it clean. There are many things that you can perform on Nusa Dua Beach – swimming, surfing, parasailing, and sunbathing.
Traveler Tip: You might have to make some payment for hiring the sun lounger or eating or doing the activities at the beach.
The tourists can also enjoy the luxurious spa services available near Nusa Dua Beach – it will help you to relax and have a great experience.
#5 Having A Fun Bath With Your Family/Friends In Sekumpul Waterfall
The Sekumpul Waterfall is just another beautiful place offered by Bali and it is located in the Singaraja region. It is situated almost 66 to 70 kilometers from the Ubud. Many tourists have listed Sekumpul Waterfall as one of the most beautiful falls of Bali. This specific waterfall is a combination or blend of 7 different waterfalls which gives a perfect cascading effect. The entire area is surrounded by mist generated due to water and carried along to the jungle-clad cliff.
Travel Trip: Note that if you choose to drive yourself here, locals might try and stop you well before the entrance, demanding exorbitant entrance and parking fees. It’s a good idea to hire a local guide who knows how to negotiate these roadblocks and access the correct trailhead to the falls.
#6 Understanding The Culture And People Of Bali: Most often the tourists are visiting Bali to know the different cultures that are being religiously followed or to mark the difference between the traditions of the people of Bali and that of the other countries that are Buddha followers. For that, you would have to visit the villages and understand the terrace farming they have adopted for rice fields, attend their cultural programs, and know how the people are dressing in Bali. It would be completely refreshing to meet new people, and spend some quality time with them.
It would be better if you take a visit to Sideman Valley. This valley is situated in the northeast of the Ubud and will give you the feeling of the old Bali where the villagers reside and have a happy living. The village is full of rice fields that are perfectly shaped into terrace farming. While you are strolling through the village, you would get to know the routine of the villagers and how they are spending their day. Besides, you will be learning more about the scenic beauty of the village valley that has a big Mount Agung as the backdrop. Most often the tourists come to spend time with the villager or go on a hiking trip and sometimes follow the summit of Mount Agung and some for the Yoga retreats.

Satan x Evelyn (oc)
Purely. Mindless. Self. Indulgence.
I miss driving the Great Ocean Road. So I decided I wanted my oc Evelyn to take Satan for a short holiday.
Satan stood as close to the edge as the fencing would allow; his hands upon the railing and leaning forward as he breathed deep the ocean air as the icy winds whipped up salt and foam to fill his senses.
He felt so calm; looking out onto the unforgiving throes of the water; its white wash a reminder to anyone who dared defy their safety that the water would be their end. He watched how it rushed up and slammed into the jagged rock formations that had been eroded away from the main land and still managed to stand imposing on their own.
“This place is beautiful!” Satan declared as he looked over his shoulder; Evelyn standing just behind him, huddled under her large puffy jacket. His voice was barely heard from beneath the sharp gush of crisp air and the thunderous bellows of the water against rock, really standing up to its given name Thunder Cave.
“I knew you’d love it here,” she called out with her soft smile and closed the distance between them, pulling her hand out from her pocket and slipped it beneath his clothing to caress his back.
Indeed, it was true; Satan had never felt so calm and detached from his own sin since Evelyn had taken him along one of her favourite stretches of road. The Great Ocean Road had held so many wondrous natural beauties, a sad story of its creation as they stopped at each pocket of beach towns to refuel, or eat or to simply wander and to stop at any prop of information spread across a tourist board or printed in metal plaques set in large rocks.
She would even find random pockets along the road where you could park, no town or seemingly anything of importance; until she took his hand and when safe, dashed across the road to take him down hidden pathways to show off hidden streams, pools and waterfalls. It was a plethora of concealed beauty; you just had to know where to look.
With each stop they made Evelyn would do her best to give Satan a little history; ever hungry for learning more, Satan enjoyed every second. She explained how the Chocolaterie in Torquay was a small family run business while telling him how amazing everything tasted. Bells Beach was possibly the most well-known location when it came to surfing in Victoria; the two of them standing at the very top to watch a few brave – or idiotic – souls take on the waves in the overly frigid waters.
He found the story of Tom Pearce and Eva Carmichael truly astounding as he and Evelyn stood on the sand between the towering sandstone cliffs of Loch Ard Gorge while she told the tale; but, Thunder Cave was probably his most favourite spot. Even more so than standing on the sand near the 12 Apostles when the water rushed over the shore to hit their feet and Evelyn had squealed at the icy contact.
Here, At the Thunder Cave, Satan had felt so in tune to his surroundings. It was as beautiful as it was dangerous; the fencing a reminder to keep humans at bay. This place was dangerous; with every crash against the rock, a booming sound filled his chest and he sighed completely at peace.
He moved his weight off his arms, placing his feet back to the ground beneath him and turned to Evelyn; admiring how the wind tore strands of her vibrant red hair and whipped it across her speckled face, deep blue eyes still shining even under the overcast skies.
“Thank you for bringing me here,” he murmured as he wrapped his arms around her; listening to her hum happily. It was slight, but he knew the sound meant she was impressed with herself.
“I love it so much here,” she sighed as she propped her chin onto his shoulder; looking out into the grey clouded sky and grey waters. “Especially this time of year… I love the cold, and there’s never as many people around.”
He chuckled softly; as he watched the minuscule amount of people walking the pathways; either continuing to a different area to admire, or ignoring that he and Evelyn were having an intimate moment and walked over so they could take in the wondrous display of Thunder Cave.
“Of course, someone had to come along and burst a little bubble,” Satan sighed loudly as the two separated from one another.
She laughed, hushing him and gently whacking his shoulder with the back of her hand before slipping it into his and made the walk back to the car park; letting out shivered breaths as they sat themselves into her car and slammed the doors closed.
“You kind of forgot how chilly it actually is,” Satan noted as a shiver ran up his back while Evelyn started the car and turned the heating on low; enough to chase the chill from the air but not have them sweltering.
“Until you get into the car, hey,” she chuckled as she rubbed her hands together and held her fingers close to the vent.
Satan looked at the faint blush across her nose and cheeks; a gentle sniffle as her body adjusted to the change in temperature; he loved how such simple things affected a human more than it did him. The drive back to Port Campbell was blissfully quiet; conversation coming and going in an easy flow over the radio softly playing.
Port Campbell was a small quaint town; Evelyn describe it as more of a stopover for herself, just a place to stay a night or two while using the day to venture out to see the sights. Quiet, friendly; she liked it. They stopped there to have a sit down dinner; enjoying the boisterous yet soft ambience of 12 Rocks Beach Bar Café. Satan found sitting down in a human restaurant; looking at a menu full of human world food exciting; he didn’t get to do it anywhere near enough and listened to the quiet ooh’s and yum’s as Evelyn silently read over the menu before calling out dishes she thought Satan might enjoy trying.
Afterwards, there was a quick stop at the supermarket to grab a few sweets before making the short drive to Daisy Hill Country Cottages where they had splurged on the Callistemon spa suite. The views from their suite were green rolling hills, the occasion sheep strutting into view in their paddocks, a windmill peaking over trees; it was again quiet and calm, and while Satan enjoyed it; the sight of Evelyn nestling comfortably into a bubble bath while tucking into a pint of ice cream was by far the best thing about the place. He was quick to join her.
She had explained how she like the town as it had a lot of the coastal sights with just a short drive; a good stopover point if she wanted to go to Warrnambool but making a weekend out of it; and it was also right near the Gourmet Trail where travelers would be spoiled with cheese, fudge and chocolates, strawberries, ice cream, and whiskey.
Satan had suggested bringing Beel next time and Evelyn had laughed before explaining most places were small businesses; he would have run them into the ground while complaining he had only been fed a sample.
When the pint was empty and the bath had run cold; Satan and Evelyn dried off, turning the rooms heater on before slipping into bed; Satan listening with interest as Evelyn explained with an eagerness of all the places she still wanted to take him the following morning as they sat against the headboard of the bed; her arms around his waist, a hand fiddling with the doona cover; his arm around her shoulders and pulled her closer to him and laced his fingers into hers. He rather her attention on him than fiddling with any bed sheet.
Neither remembered falling asleep; simply waking to the sunlight chasing the cold of night away and its soft glow spilling in through the window they forgot to cover with the curtains the night prior. After getting themselves ready; they headed back into town, grabbing a something for breakfast and perched themselves at a public table close to the beach; huddled together in their puffer jackets to rid the chill of the wind before heading off for another full day of adventure, food and for Satan, more lessons from Evelyn.

Where reopening is working (NYT) Across much of the United States and Europe, the coronavirus has been spreading less rapidly than many people feared. Over the past six weeks—as communities have started to reopen, Americans have flocked to beaches and lakes and European schools have reopened—but the number of new cases has continued falling in many places. Across the Northeast and Midwest of the U.S., they’re down more than 50 percent, and often much more, since May 1. Nationwide, weekly deaths have fallen for six weeks in a row. And Europe “seems to have turned a corner,” Caitlin Rivers of Johns Hopkins University says. How could this be? Public health experts gave two main answers. One, the virus spreads much less easily outdoors than indoors. “Summer—being outside, warmer weather, humidity—seems to help, and we may have underestimated how much it’s helped,” Ashish Jha, the incoming dean of Brown University School of Public Health, told me. Two, many people are taking more precautions than they were in February and March. They’re wearing masks, remaining six feet apart and being careful about what they touch. The combination appears to have eliminated most “superspreader events,” like parties, concerts and restaurant meals, where multiple people get sick. Such events may account for 80 percent of all transmissions, research suggests.
Beleaguered and besieged, police try to come to grips with a nation’s anger (Washington Post) The crowds have thinned and the smoke has cleared, with more than a week of nationwide protests leaving in their wake a nation increasingly resolved to change a broken law enforcement system. But they also have left police officers badly shaken, and in some cases physically bruised. Nationwide, police leaders say the rank and file are struggling to come to grips with the level of animus they encountered on the streets, as epithets, bricks and bottles all came hurtling their way. Police have been targets of protest many times before, of course. But never quite like this. “I’ve had members say they feel like a Vietnam veteran returning home to a country that hates them,” said Robert Harris, a Los Angeles police officer and director of the force’s police union. “It’s not that our members expect thank-yous. It’s the difficulty in knowing that the protesters want to be treated with equality and fairness and respect, and what they’re protesting for isn’t afforded to the officers themselves.” “The morale is low,” he said. “They’ve taken quite a beating.”
Federal Debt Tops $26 Trillion for First Time; Jumps $2 Trillion in Just 63 Days (CNS News) The debt of the federal government topped $26 trillion for the first time on Tuesday, when it climbed from $25,960,547,920,986.11 to $26,003,751,512,344.91, according to data released today by the Treasury Department. The federal debt had topped $24 trillion for the first time on April 7, 2020.
A Single Session of Exercise Alters 9,815 Molecules in Our Blood (NYT) When we exercise, the levels of thousands of substances in our bloodstream rise and drop, according to an eye-opening new study of the immediate, interior impacts of working out. The study is the most comprehensive cataloging to date of the molecular changes that occur during and after exercise and underscores how consequential activity—and inactivity—may be for our bodies and health. Over all, the researchers were taken aback by the magnitude of the changes in people’s molecular profiles after exercise, according to Dr. Michael Snyder, the chair of the genetics department at Stanford University and senior author of the study. “I had thought, it’s only about nine minutes of exercise, how much is going to change? A lot, as it turns out.”
United will require passengers to complete health assessments before they fly (Washington Post) United Airlines on Wednesday became at least the second U.S. carrier to ask travelers to answer questions about their health status before they fly, part of a strategy to ease the minds of travelers concerned about flying in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. United’s “Ready-to-Fly” checklist will ask travelers to confirm that they have not experienced any coronavirus-related symptoms in the 14 previous days or been in close contact with any individual who has tested positive during the same time period. It also will require passengers to verify that they are aware of the airline’s policy requiring face coverings when aboard an airplane.
Are religious communities reviving the revival? Outdoor worship is a US tradition (Religion News Service) Religious communities have been forced to find alternative ways to worship together during the coronavirus pandemic. For some that has meant going online, but others have turned to a distinctly non-digital practice steeped in this history of the American religious experience: outdoor worship. Prayer sessions in parking lots and services in green spaces formed part of an improvised response to the lockdown by religious leaders and they may now be part of the plan as the United States emerges from the crisis. Indeed, a team of clergy and scientists have issued a new guide suggesting, among other recommendations, that baptisms could take place in “flowing streams, lakes or in beach settings.” So are brick-and-mortar houses of worship essential? It is a question that states and courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, have asked in considering the extent to which states can or should place restrictions on meetings in religious buildings. Religious communities, too, have reflected on whether the term “church” describes a building or a community. While white evangelical Protestants have been some of the more vocal protesters of government restrictions on houses of worship during the pandemic, they actually have a long history of embracing outdoor worship in services and revivals.
Watch kids near water (NYT) This year, with outings to the community pool, day camps and pool parties still on hold, kids cooped up at home will be eager to get in the water as the weather warms. Experts worry that parents are stretched too thin to provide the required supervision, leading to an increase in child drownings this summer. As of mid-May, both Florida and Texas—the top two states for child drownings in pools and spas—are already seeing higher numbers than last year. If you have toddlers and you think you don’t have to worry because you don’t have a real pool—just one of those little plastic or inflatable baby pools—you still have a hazard sitting in your yard. Little kids can drown in less than two inches of water. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, drowning is the leading cause of injury death in children ages 1 to 4, and nearly 70 percent of the time, it happens when children aren’t supposed to be in the pool.
Zoom censors video talks on Hong Kong and Tiananmen, drawing criticism (Washington Post) Several prominent critics of the Chinese government, including protest leaders in Hong Kong and pro-democracy activists in the United States, have accused Zoom of shutting their accounts and severing live events in recent weeks under pressure from Beijing. The three incidents are reviving concerns about the fast-growing Silicon Valley company’s susceptibility to Chinese government influence weeks after the firm began facing scrutiny over security, including its routing of data through China. Coming in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, the episode also highlights the world’s dependency on services such as Zoom and their ability to control speech. Zoom on Thursday acknowledged that “a few recent meetings” related to China have been disrupted. In each instance, event organizers told The Washington Post that they relied on Zoom in lieu of in-person events because of social distancing and travel restrictions. And each of the Zoom accounts and events was created and hosted outside mainland China but appeared to be quashed under Chinese government pressure after publicly advertised.
EU pushes back on Beijing (Foreign Policy) China’s aggressive diplomacy in Europe is now causing serious pushback. The European Union, normally reluctant to speak out against Beijing, has accused the government of running “targeted influence operations and disinformation campaigns in the EU, its neighborhood, and globally,” along with Russia. The move may be a response to earlier criticism that the EU softened a report on the same topic. Meanwhile, Britain’s swerve away from China has been fast, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson proposing a D-10 alliance of democracies—the existing G-7, plus South Korea, India, and Australia—to build 5G networks free of Chinese influence. The Hong Kong crisis has further soured U.K.-Chinese relations, with Beijing warning that it may pull out a British nuclear power construction deal. Since the original nuclear deal was widely seen as a disaster in the U.K., this doesn’t give Beijing much leverage.
Poland troop plan falters (Foreign Policy) After U.S. President Donald Trump said he would remove 9,500 troops from Germany, plans to relocate troops further east in Poland have fallen into disarray, Reuters reports. A plan announced in June of last year to send 1,000 U.S. troops to Poland permanently has been held up over disputes over how much of the bill Poland would cover, where to station the troops, and whether they would gain legal immunity while stationed there.
Lack of beds slows Delhi’s virus fight (AP) In New Delhi, a sprawling capital region of 46 million and home to some of India’s highest concentration of hospitals, a pregnant woman’s death after a frantic hunt for a sickbed was a worrying sign about the country’s ability to cope with a wave of new coronavirus cases. “She kept begging us to save her life, but we couldn’t do anything,” Shailendra Kumar said, after driving his sister-in-law, Neelam, and her husband for hours, only to be turned away at eight public and private hospitals. Two and a half months of nationwide lockdown kept numbers of infections relatively low in India. But with restrictions easing in recent weeks, cases have shot up, rising by a record of nearly 10,000 on Thursday, raising questions about whether authorities have done enough to avert catastrophe. Half of Delhi’s 8,200 hospital beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients are already full and officials are projecting more than half a million cases in the city alone by July 31.
Chinese recovery (Foreign Policy) Some data indicates that the speed of economic recovery in China may be faster than feared, with oil use already back to 90 percent of pre-coronavirus levels. Domestic demand for consumer goods is strong, but a lack of global demand is hamstringing Chinese manufacturers: Reopened factories are struggling to find customers.
Floyd killing finds echoes of abuse in South Africa, Kenya (AP) Collins Khosa was killed by law enforcement officers in a poor township in Johannesburg over a cup of beer left in his yard. The 40-year-old black man was choked, slammed against a wall, beaten, kicked and hit with the butt of a rifle by the soldiers as police watched, his family says. Two months later, South Africans staged a march against police brutality. But it was mostly about the killing of George Floyd in the United States, with the case of Khosa, who died on April 10, raised only briefly. Despite racial reconciliation that emerged after the end of the apartheid system, poor and black South Africans still fall victim to security forces that now are mostly black. The country is plagued by violent crime, and police often are accused of resorting to heavy-handed tactics. Journalist Daneel Knoetze, who looked into police brutality in South Africa between 2012 and 2019, found that there were more than 42,000 criminal complaints against police, which included more than 2,800 killings—more than one a day. There were more than 27,000 cases of alleged assault by police, many classified as torture, and victims were “overwhelmingly” poor and black, he said. And in Kenya, the police force has for two decades been ranked the country’s most corrupt institution. It’s also Kenya’s most deadly, killing far more people than criminals do, according to human rights groups.

Sink or Swim **Ben Hardy**
Prompt was from here
“I need to make my ex jealous.” Fake dating trope.
Warnings: Swearing, Ben being too cute for his own good, and also hot af, mentions of body issues.
Word count: +8.7k
A/N: I’ve had some major heart eyes for Ben since I first saw him in X-Men: Apocalypse (ooF)
□■□■□■□■□
The invite on Facebook that went around to the majority of your old classmates made you want to curse. You stared at the event on your laptop screen, sat at your dining table in your pyjamas, legs curled up as you rested your chin on your knee.
A dinner party hosted by one of the girls who you shared English with at your high school. She had been popular, naturally, and her looks hadn't faded over time, despite it being almost 12 years since you had all graduated. She'd gone on to work at a modelling agency, whereas you'd decided to work behind the scenes as a hair stylist.
However you could hardly complain about your job, as it had allowed you to work many amazing opportunities. The most recent one being on the set of Bohemian Rhapsody, the new biopic that had recently hit the cinemas.
You'd been assistant to the head stylist who was in charge of all the wigs. This meant you had fixed and removed wig after wig, morning and evening, for a few months. It had been a brilliant experience, and one that you'd not taken for granted.
It also meant you had gotten a lot of time with the actors and actresses in the film, specifically Ben, who had portrayed Roger Taylor in the film. You'd gotten on well with him, however it had never progressed into anything more, certainly not into anything romantic.
Sure, Ben was easy on the eyes, but you were professional and so was he.
You'd swapped numbers after filming wrapped, but mainly because Ben found you a real laugh to be around. You were around the same age and so it was nice to be able to talk about similar topics, such as TV shows you'd both grown up with, how your school life had been, etc.
After the filming was done, Ben had invited you out a couple of times for pizza or a drink, since you lived a half hour drive from his area, it was easy to drop by and catch up.
Looking through the invited guests of the dinner party, you read many names you recognised, and some that you didn't. Already there was 30 responses from people confirming that they were going. They looked to be mainly people who hadn't settled down, with little responsibilities such as kids or serious jobs, meaning they had little in their schedules.
You clicked the 'Interested' button, not wanting to seem rude or ignorant. But then you saw a name that caught your eye, having RSVP'd that they would be attending, and it filled you with anxiety.
It was your high school boyfriend. Or ex for that matter.
He'd dumped you before prom, telling you that he didn't want to go with a girl like you, and that he had been asked by someone far better.
Looks like they hadn't worked out either, as they weren't in each other's friend lists when you had a cheeky sneak through. A little stalking never hurt anyone.
However this new revelation made you consider changing your answer to 'Not Going'.
You really didn't want to face that ass after 12 years, with no boyfriend or much else to show for it. If you were going to be reunited with him, you wanted to be able to rub it in his face about how successful your life had become after he ditched you.
Unable to ponder on it any more, you slammed the laptop shut and ran upstairs to get dressed, checking the time on your phone. A missed call.
From Ben.
You rang him back, having him pick up after the third dial. By the sound of it, he seemed to be in a car.
"Ben?" You asked down the phone, to which he laughed.
"Why do you sound so confused?" He responded with a question of his own, obviously humoured by your quizzical tone.
"Because I don't know why you're calling me?" You suggested, opening your wardrobe and trying to pick out an outfit for the day. You hadn't got anything really planned, so it didn't need to be anything special.
A pause on his end.
"Please don't tell me you forgot our plans." He whined, a little annoyed as he huffed down the phone.
You frowned, trying to recall making any plans with him. Then it suddenly hit you like a freight train.
Swimming!
"Shit! Ben, I'm so sorry, it completely slipped my mind." You stammered, now beginning to rifle through your drawers for your swimming costumes.
That was also something you and Ben had discovered you both enjoyed whilst on the Bo Rhap set. Your love for water.
He'd suggested you both go swimming one day, and that day had finally come around. He'd asked you last week when he'd popped over for a cup of tea, although you had been a little occupied with not burning your house down whilst he spoke to you. You'd been baking, or attempting to, a cake for your mother's birthday, and had agreed to go, only half-concentrating on what he was saying.
There was a laugh on his end, and it filled you with a little bit of relief, glad to know he wasn't too annoyed.
"Well it's a good job I called you then!" He pointed out, much to your chagrin. "I'll be there in 10, okay?" And with that he hung up, leaving you the chance to run around like a headless chicken, trying to gather up a bag to take with you to the swimming centre. It was the local one near you, about five minutes away from your house, making it easy for you to walk there whenever you felt like it, as you couldn't drive.
You chucked in a clean towel, along with some underwear and a bra, and some toiletries for after you were finished. You didn't fancy reeking like chlorine around Ben, despite the fact you rather enjoyed the way the swimming pools smelled. You'd opted to put your swimming costume on under your clothes to save you time in the changing room. You'd only had two choices to decide between when it came to which swimming costume you could wear.
Either you picked a really old, grey one-piece suit that was practically threadbare, or you put on the red, polka-dot bikini that you'd bought for a weekend away with your girlfriends. You'd gone up to celebrate one of their 30th birthdays at a spa centre with a pool and jacuzzi, and so you'd treated yourself to a new costume.
Aside from that, it hadn't been worn again, and was in practically mint condition. The only downside was that it was a bikini, and you didn't really fancy showing off a load of skin around Ben. He was a good-looking bloke, and very chiselled too. You didn't want him to find your body repulsive or have someone else at the pool laugh at you and Ben and the obvious fact that you didn't really belong around him.
Perhaps you could take a t-shirt?
You chucked in an old shirt that you didn't mind getting all chlorinated, and then went to brush your teeth in the bathroom. You tied your hair back from your face, putting it onto a simple ponytail so that it wouldn't hopefully get entirely wet.
It was starting to stress you out a little, as you realised Ben would be here any second, and you felt rather crappy in regard to your appearance, knowing that it was stupid to wear makeup to a pool, but not liking the idea of going bare-faced.
But then you had no more time to think about it, as your front doorbell rang, signalling that Ben was here. Cursing under your breath as you gave yourself one last look over, you grabbed your little bag of stuff and ran downstairs. You could see his shadow through the frosted glass of the front door as you picked up your keys to let him in.
Opening the door revealed him stood with his back to you, as he looked down the street whilst he waited for you. Upon hearing the door click, he turned around and saw you standing in the doorway, which made a smile spread upon his perfectly pink lips.
His hair had been shaved at the sides and the back, the top remaining relatively long, although he'd pushed it back and fixed it with some product. He was sporting a thin, grey jumper as the air was relatively crisp still at this time of year, along with some blue jeans and basic white trainers.
"Ready?" He asked, nibbling on his bottom lip with one of his canines as you grabbed some flat shoes and pushed them on. You nodded at him, feeling a little conscious of your clothes and your bare face, stepping out the house and locking it behind you.
Ben's car was gorgeous, a beautiful matte green, similar to the colour of moss, with tinted windows and leather interior. He treasured this car like it was his baby, obviously having spent a fair bit of money on it.
He opened the passenger door for you, so you could climb in easily, having to use the little built in step to get in. It was a real beast of a car.
Once Ben had gotten in the driver's seat and gotten you both off your little street, he looked over at you, noticing the tense way you were sat and how you were nibbling on your nails.
"You alright?" He asked, trying to keep his eyes on the road but also look at you occasionally. You nodded and made a humming noise.
"Just thinking." You told him, feeling a little bad that you weren't acting your usual self today. You didn't want to ruin the mood or your day that you had planned.
Ben laughed to himself. "That can sometimes be a dangerous thing to do. Care to indulge me as to what's on your mind?" He enquired, pulling his car into the car park for the swimming pool centre. It was hardly bound to be busy on a weekday, but there were a few cars parked up. When he stopped the car you shook your head, putting on a smile.
"It's nothing Ben, really. Let's just go and enjoy ourselves." You told him, hopefully making it clear that you didn't want to speak any more on the subject. He got the hint and just nodded, getting his bag out the back of the car and following you into the building.
The faint smell of chlorine and cleaning fluid hit your nose instantly as you walked in, and you couldn't help but inhale deeply. Ben shot you a funny look, but you just giggled, feeling the heat in your cheeks inflame.
"I like the smell." You told him sheepishly, to which he couldn't help but smile, placing a hand on your back and guiding the two of you to the front desk. The receptionist seemed a little surprised to see you with someone, recognising you from the many previous visits, however none of them having a partner beside you. You wondered if she would recognise Ben, as she kept glancing back and forth between the two of you but said nothing. You paid for your time in the pool and then walked off to the changing rooms.
A little bit of dread crept up into your throat as you neared the door with the female sign on it, realising you were going to have to get undressed and meet Ben on the other side, no doubt feeling like a fool.
Ben squeezed your bicep, grabbing your attention away from the door. You turned to him and found him stood by the gent's changing room.
He shot you a playful grin raising an eyebrow, and you couldn't deny how it made your heart flutter a little.
"See you on the other side?" He asked, pushing the door open. You nodded, giving him an uneasy smile, but he didn't pick up on your slight discomfort.
He headed inside, and you dashed into the women's, finding an empty cubicle and shutting the door, locking it so no one walked in on you. Plonking your bag on the seat, not wanting to put it on the wet tiles, you slipped off your shoes, glad you didn't have socks on that would get soaked by the water that people trailed through from the pool and showers.
Inside the tiny cubicle, you managed to shimmy off your jeans and the nice shirt you had on, folding them neatly in your bag, taking out the old, scruffy one that you planned to wear over your costume.
It was such a nice bikini, you felt it was a shame to cover it up, but you kept having the same thought of how Ben would react to seeing your body that was nowhere near as perfect as his was.
With a sigh, you unlocked the cubicle and chucked your bag and shoes into a locker, taking the little key that was attached to a plastic bracelet and locking it up, tying it around your wrist. There was a floor-length mirror on the wall before you headed past the showers and towards the pool entrance. You stood in front of it, inspecting how the bikini looked, wondering if somehow it had become too tight or loose in the short drive from your house to here. It hadn't, it looked the same.
You looked down at the shirt clenched in your fists and eventually caved, throwing it on over your head.
It came down to your upper thigh, covering as much as you needed it to, much to your relief. Sighing, you walked towards the changing room exit that lead out into the pool area, ignoring the funny look that one woman gave you as you passed her in the shower area.
You dodged the cold little puddle of water that was always in public swimming pool areas, hating how you had to walk through it to go back and forth between the pool and changing rooms. Stepping out into the huge leisure room, you could see the glistening water, the orange glow from the lights bouncing off its surface. It was so calming to see, instantly putting you at some form of ease, making you momentarily forget about the intrusive worries and doubts in your head.
That is, until you heard your name being called from your right and you looked to see Ben walked towards you. It was painfully unfair to see how brilliant he looked in his swimming shorts, his toned and very muscular torso on display for everyone to see. You could see the muscles under the skin shift as he got closer to you, the way they tensed when he ran his hand through his hair.
You knew then that it had been a good idea to put the t-shirt on, knowing that you would look ridiculous stood next to him.
"Hey! You look a little lost, is everything alright? What's with the t-shirt?" Ben asked when he finally had gotten to your side, giving you the once over as he spotted the t-shirt you donned over your costume. You shifted from foot to foot, toying with the hem of the shirt as you tried to find a better excuse than simply the fact that you felt rather crappy compared to him. You knew that people were looking at him, more specifically the women that were in the pool. Even the young lifeguard that sat up on her tall chair couldn't help but give him a very satisfied look down. Ben seemed oblivious to it all.
"Just, feel a little bloated?" You guessed, not entirely convincing him. He raised an eyebrow but said nothing more.
"No worries. Well, let's get in then!" He pushed you playfully, teasing at throwing you in the pool, making you squeal.
"Ben!" You snapped, although you had a huge grin on your face. He backed away before you could grab at him, diving in head fist, with the grace of an Olympic athlete. You watched him disappear under the surface, before popping back up with a splash, flicking his head to shake the wet hair out of his eyes. Rubbing it with his hand caused it to stick out at weird angles, and you couldn't help but laugh at how funny he looked.
"Coming in?" He asked, swimming back towards the edge of the pool. You nodded, sitting down onto the cold tiles and slipping your legs into the water first, opting to sit on the edge for a little bit first.
Ben swam up to your side, resting his arms on the side so he could tread water easily.
"So, why the t-shirt? And be honest with me this time." Ben asked you, his face deadly serious, catching you a little off guard. So he hadn't believed your poorly put together lie. You felt your face go extremely hot at having been caught out.
"It's just..." You trailed off, hating the fact that you were going to have to tell him the truth. You didn't want to sound like an ass.
Ben waited patiently, careful to not pressure you into speaking. He rest his chin on his hands, continuing to tread the water as he watched you fumble over your words.
"It's you, Ben." You admitted, wincing at the way his eyebrows furrowed together.
"Me?" He responded, and you quickly tried to explain.
"NO, well yes. It's complicated." You sighed, pinching the bridge of your nose as you tried to keep back the tears. Ben stayed silent. "You're hot..." You began, earning a laugh from him.
"Thanks love." He replied with a shit-eating grin. You swatted his arm.
"Shush, I wasn't done." You chided him, only he simply waggled his eyebrows, biting his bottom lip. You tried to ignore how that little action made you feel. "Well, as I said, you're hot..and I'm, well I'm not, basically." You explained to him, hoping he would understand what you were trying to say.
Ben silently pulled himself out of the water, his bicep muscles tensing and flexing as he did so, so that he was sat next to you, your shoulders bumping slightly. You kept your eyes focused on the shimmering surface of the pool. It was too much of a distraction having Ben sat next to you with beads of water sliding down over his abs and dripping off the ends of his hair.
"You know that is a load of shit, right?" He laughed, wrapping an arm around you and pulling you closer to him, his hand resting on your waist. "Listen to me, you're beautiful. Now I don't say that often, except as a joke occasionally on one of Joe's Instagram posts."
You couldn't help but laugh, having seen said Instagram comments for yourself.
"But on a serious note, you do not have to feel like you're worth any less because you're with me. I hate that you feel so insecure around me, because I always want you to be comfortable." Ben confessed, tugging on your ponytail jokingly so that you'd turn to look at him.
"It's just so difficult." You sighed, wrapping the t-shirt fabric around your finger.
Ben nodded. "You can keep the t-shirt on if you like, that's entirely your choice. But I just want you to know that I think everything about you is perfect. You're very hot, if you don't mind me saying." Ben nudged you at that last part, making a giggle erupt from your lips. It was a sound that Ben loved to hear and was glad that he was the one who could make it happen.
You began to pull your legs out of the water, and Ben frowned up at you as you got to your feet.
"I'll be right back." You mumbled, turning on your heel and going back into the changing rooms, forgetting about the cold puddle and stepping through it with a shiver and a grumble.
You stood outside the locker that was yours and opened it. With a long, slow exhale, you tugged the t-shirt up over your head, screwing it up and locking the door in a hurry, not wanting to change your mind if you lingered for too long.
Tugging at the bra part of the bikini, you repositioned it, hoping that it covered your breasts up well. You really didn't want a slip up to happen in front of Ben.
Perhaps you should have just wore the old swimsuit, you thought.
It was far too late now though, and you tried not to look in the mirror as you walked past it, failing miserably.
Ben's words echoed around your head as you tried not to look at all the imperfections you saw instantaneously.
I think everything about you is perfect.
You managed to pull your gaze away from the mirror and head back to the pool, forcing your arms to remain at their sides and not wrap around your midriff like you so wanted to do. You dodged the puddle and poked your head out to look around the big pool room. Ben was floating in the pool, not paying any attention to anyone as he gently floated on his back. Grumbling, you forced your feet to walk, one in front of the other, so that you were now well and truly exposed.
Nowhere to hide now.
"Fuck it." You whispered to yourself as you stepped up to the side of the pool.
It was at this same moment that Ben happened to look over, obviously wondering where you had gotten to, and spotted you stood on the edge with your hands balled into fists. You couldn't help but groan, as you'd been hoping you would be able to get in the pool without him seeing.
The smile however, that graced Ben's lips was one of pure happiness and...admiration?
He swum over to you until he was a metre from the edge, looking up at you.
"You took it off." He pointed out, his voice soft. It made your heart melt a little.
"Yeah." You admitted sheepishly, clearing your throat as you felt yourself grow more awkward by the second.
Ben quickly looked you up and down, but it didn't go unnoticed by you.
"You're even more beautiful than I first thought." Ben told you, making a warm heat pool in your stomach that spread all the way up to your cheeks.
"Thanks, Ben." You replied, sitting down and quickly lowering yourself into the pool, wanting to at least cover yourself up partially, plus it was getting rather chilly just standing on the edge like a lemon. The water was relatively warm, and it felt so natural to slip into it, you couldn't help but smile as you felt the warmth wrap around your body, in between your fingers and toes. Ben pushed away, and you swum after him, heading towards the shallower part of the pool.
It was here that you could eventually stand up, the water just reaching your collarbones whilst it only just made it up to Ben's pectorals.
"Feeling okay?" Ben asked you, moving his hands in the water, feeling the way it swirled around him, creating little currents. You nodded, bouncing on your tiptoes.
Ben stepped a little closer to you, and your heartbeat went a little funny when he nibbled on his lower lip, now flushing a deep red colour by how often he seemed to bite on it. You wondered if it was a habit or something to do with nerves, although you couldn't fathom why he'd be nervous around you.
"Is that everything you had on your mind?" He asked you, a drop of water slipping down his cheek and eventually dripping off his jawline. It was a pretty sharp jawline.
You shrugged. "There was this other thing, a dinner party, but it's alright, I've decided not to go." You told him nonchalantly. Ben pulled a face, his bottom lip sticking out a little in a pout.
"Why not?" He asked, splashing you playfully with a little water. You giggled, splashing him back, the water simply hitting his chest and running over his rock-hard muscles. You swore mentally at yourself to stop looking at his body.
"Because it's a high school reunion, hosted by a really popular girl who's now a model, and my ex who dumped me before prom has RSVP'd that he's going. I don't fancy turning up single and having to deal with him the entire night." You grimaced. Ben nodded, understanding your reasoning for not wanting to go.
"Just get a date for the evening." He told you, splashing a little harder, a few droplets of water hitting your cheek. You shook your head, partially due to the fact that Ben was going to get drowned if he kept pushing his luck.
"It's too short notice." You sighed, chucking a rather large amount of water at him. Ben wiped the water off his face with a grin.
"I'll go with you then." He offered, slapping his hand on the surface of the water, creating a huge spray of water that drenched your face and your hair. You gasped in shock, jumping on Ben and trying to push him under the water, but with little luck as he was far stronger than you and had anticipated your move.
His strong hands gripped onto your hips, holding you still as you burst into a fit of giggles at your pathetic attempt of shoving his head underwater. You didn't even register how close you now had gotten to Ben, hands resting on his shoulders as his toned abs were pressed against your stomach. The heat that radiated off the two of you as you stayed pressed together was intense, Ben's eyes flicking down to your lips on more than one occasion.
"So?" Ben practically whispered, unable to stop himself from letting his hand slip a little higher up to rest on your waist. The sensation of his hand on your bare skin made you shiver. But you remembered he had asked you a question, so you tried to remain focused on the conversation rather than how you enjoyed his hands on your body.
"Erm...So what?" You asked, having a momentary lapse of memory loss.
Ben chuckled, with you being able to feel the rumble of his chest under your hands. "Want me to go to this dinner party with you? I'll pose as your boyfriend or something, and make your ex see what he missed out on." Ben offered, explaining the little plan he had concocted. Your eyes widened in surprise.
"You mean, be my...fake boyfriend?" You laughed, unable to believe what you had just heard.
"Well, I never said fake, but sure." Ben joked, but you didn't miss his quick glance at your lips again.
Could Ben be interested in you?
You shook off the thought quickly, scolding yourself for how ridiculous you sounded.
But still, the offer of having Ben as your boyfriend was inviting, even if it was just for one night. Plus, you could rub it in your ex's face.
How wonderful that sounded.
With a mischievous smile, you agreed to Ben's plan.
□■□■□■□■□
It was two days after your trip to the swimming pool with Ben, and you were finishing up your makeup in the bathroom mirror, knowing Ben was coming to pick you up in the next few minutes. You hadn't forgotten about this night however, but you had been a little late in getting ready, as you had been on the phone to your mother about the dinner party.
When she'd asked if you were going alone, you had mentioned Ben, but stated firmly that it was simply as friends. Your mother hadn't sounded very convinced.
Now the evening was upon you, you had butterflies in your stomach. It was silly, but it almost felt like a date to you, even though you had told yourself countless times today that it wasn't, if anything it was an operation.
Operation: Jealous Asshole Ex.
You'd put a lot of effort into your appearance tonight as well, but you didn't know if it was because you were doing it to pile on the jealousy, or if it was because you were going to be with Ben.
Either way, you scrubbed up pretty well.
It was a black dress that your mother had bought for you. You'd had a bonding day together and went to a huge shopping centre where you'd had lunch and treated yourselves. You'd been rather resistant to let your mum get you something, especially a dress that you'd had no idea when you would ever wear. But now you were grateful.
The dress zipped up your back to your shoulder blades and had a halter neck front but with a cut out that showed off a little bit of cleavage. It had built in breast support and boy; did it support alright. You'd never known your boobs to look so bouncy and voluptuous.
It was pretty modest in length as it came down to the top of your knee, but it was devilishly tight, hugging every single part of your body, hiding nothing. Had it not been so figure-hugging you would have considered wearing something over the top, but due to its tight form, it seemed to make everything look slimmer and curvy.
Whilst you detested heels, you had nothing flat to wear that matched, so you begrudgingly borrowed a pair of black stilettos from one of your friends. You'd curled your hair instead of tying it up and let it hang loose, framing your now dolled-up face.
You liked this style. It made you look confident and sexy.
Something you often struggled to feel.
The doorbell rang downstairs and your heart began to thump heavily in your chest.
Ben was here.
You grabbed your phone and carefully got down the stairs without any injuries. You were certain that you'd trip and twist your ankle by the end of the night.
There was no hesitation this time as you opened your door, eager to find out what Ben would think of how you looked.
You didn't have to wait long to find out, as his mouth physically dropped open when he laid his eyes on you. But you were no better as you gaped at how handsome he looked.
He was sporting a black blazer with shiny black lapels, alongside some tight black dress trousers. What made your jaw drop was the shirt. You recognised it as one he'd worn at a premiere for Bohemian Rhapsody, having seen photos online, but in person you couldn't stop staring. It was made of a mesh kind of material, slightly opaque, just enough to be able to see how defined and toned he was under his clothes.
"Ben.." You trailed off. You couldn't deny how good he looked, and it was impossible for you to tear your eyes away from him.
Ben was quick to speak up in your silence.
"You look stunning. Absolutely gorgeous." He complimented you, extending a hand out to you. You took it without hesitation as he leaned in and pressed a gentle kiss to your cheek. You could smell the cologne he'd put on, the intoxicating scent drawing you in closer. He was so magnetic to you, attracting you like a moth to a flame.
"And you don't look half bad yourself." You joked when he pulled back from you. Ben rolled his eyes and shrugged.
"What, this old thing?" He waved it off, feigning disinterest. You bit your lower lip just at the sight of him laughing, looking so ravishing in his suit. His hair was slicked to one side, with a couple of blond strands falling over his forehead.
"I don't doubt that tonight will be a success with you looking like that." You told him, as you headed towards his car. He opened the door, just like he had done a couple of days ago, only he stayed and helped you into the car, keeping a hand firmly on your back for support. When you were in, he gave you one last smile before shutting the door and returning to the driver's side.
He was treating you so nicely, it made your heart swell.
This felt a lot like a date to you.
But you knew that it wasn't really. So you pushed the thought out of your mind and waited patiently for him to begin to drive to the dinner party. But before he did, Ben remembered something and slipped his hand inside his blazer. You watched quizzically, wondering whether he'd forgotten something, until he pulled out a singular, red rose.
It wasn't real, and Ben explained it was to make sure that you never had to get rid of it, that it would be forever permanent. You just about fainted at his sweet gesture, fingers trembling slightly as you took the rose from him, stroking the petals that were made of velvet.
"You're such a charmer." You giggled, leaning over and kissing his cheek quickly, pulling back before he could react. Although it was dark as he drove you both towards the party, you could swear that in the glow of the street lights, his cheeks had gone a faint red.
Had you made him all flustered?
It humoured you to think so, but how likely was it to be that you'd managed to make him blush?
You didn't think about it anymore as you sat in silence for the rest of the journey, albeit a comfortable silence.
It wasn't until you arrived at the house that you started to feel some jitters. There were cars parked along the street, lots of guests having already arrived. You dreaded to think how many you would remember, and how many might remember you. But you were only here for one thing, and you intended to carry out the plan you and Ben had devised.
Once Ben had parked up, you both hopped out and crossed the road towards the house. Although it was more of an estate really.
"Jesus, this place isn't half posh." Ben muttered under his breath, shoving his hands in his pockets as you both walked down the fully-packed driveway. You hummed in agreement, but in reality you were trying to calm the nerves coursing through you, straightening your dress and fixing your hair.
You'd like to think you'd changed considerably since high school, but who knew?
Ben noticed your nerves and brought one of his hands out of his pocket to grab yours. You startled at the sudden contact and the unusual action, something that neither of you had done before.
"What are you-"
"Come on." Ben interrupted, throwing you a playful wink as he noticed your confusion. He pulled you along towards the front door. He was the one to push the doorbell button, hearing the little chime from inside. The entire door was made of frosted glass, so you could see a dark shape getting closer as the person on the other side approached.
Gripping Ben's hand a little tighter, you let out a deep breath before the door was opened.
And there she was.
Amelia Hargreeves.
The host of the evening, who hadn't seemed to of changed a bit, save for her chest being a lot bigger than it was, and her curves having gotten even more curvier than when she was 16. Although she had dark brunette hair, it was a little lighter at the tips, hinting that she'd gotten a balayage recently. The dress she wore was beautiful, obviously made specifically for her by some clothing brand.
But she wore a smile as she greeted you and Ben. You noticed the big engagement ring on her left hand and sighed a little, glad that you wouldn't have to worry about her possibly trying to get on with Ben. Not that it should really matter to you.
"Oh my god, hi!" She pulled you in, giving you an air kiss on either side of your cheeks, before doing the same with Ben. "I'm so glad you made it, please come in. Geoffrey and I were just talking about you!" Amelia ushered you both inside.
You put on a big smile, perhaps a little too forced, but still believable. "I hope we aren't late." You replied, stepping into the spacious, open hallway. You could hear soft music and chatter down the hall, knowing that everyone must be through there.
Amelia shut the door, beaming at the two of you. "Not at all! Please, come through and meet everyone else. God, you look so beautiful tonight, I love the dress." Amelia lead you down the hall, passing numerous pieces of art, pictures and decor.
You couldn't help but feel a little sense of pride in yourself. Amelia, whilst she had never been cruel to you in school, hadn't exactly been the best person ever, often a little self-centred and egotistical. But she was being especially nice to you tonight, and you had to wonder if perhaps she'd changed her tune.
"Thank you, and I love yours as well." You complimented her back, to which she laughed, a little, tinkling laugh.
"Thanks, it's Louis Vuitton." She giggled.
You had to refrain from rolling your eyes just a little.
She looked over her shoulder at Ben, giving him a warm smile.
"You're an unfamiliar face though, how do you two know each other?" She asked, looking back and forth between you both, waiting for one of you to answer. You clammed up, hoping Ben would take the lead in spinning this web of lies.
"We met on set actually, we're currently seeing each other." Ben smiled proudly, to which Amelia cooed.
"How sweet! Geoffrey and I met in Milan, I was over there, and he was doing a shoot with me in it. We're engaged." She waggled her hand, as if we hadn't seen the boulder of a stone on her finger.
Ben smiled. "That's lovely."
He was far better at this small talk business than you were, and for that you were so grateful.
The chatter of voices had gotten louder now as you reached the big open space, a giant living room with ceiling-to-floor windows overlooking the garden. The ceiling was tall and had a large, modern-looking chandelier in the middle, casting a golden light over the entire room. People were sat around, and many were stood in little groups, all talking amongst themselves. Some were in deep conversation, whilst others were laughing at whatever one person had said. It was a calm and relaxed atmosphere.
A few pairs of eyes spotted you instantly, and many people turned to the sound of heels clicking on the wooden floor. Ben let go of your hand, much to your distress, until he slipped his arm around your waist, pulling you a little closer into him. You were grateful for the support.
Amelia introduced the two of you, which had your face turning a deep red as many watched on, Ben smiling at anyone who happened to be looking your way. When Amelia had moved on, a couple of people came up to you instantly. You recognised them both.
Keerah and Jonathan. Both of them had been in your maths class.
Keerah's thick, black hair was tied in a braid that trailed down the length of her back, with little beads and rings woven in, and she wore a deep blue gown with a white sash around the middle. Jonathan's curly red hair was now cut short, so that the curls stayed close to his head instead of the wild mop he had sported in high school. He was wearing a white, short-sleeved shirt and skinny black tie. He'd actually been rather nice in school, often mucking around in class to entertain the students, much to the teacher's chagrin.
"I thought that was you!" Keerah laughed, giving you a quick hug and shaking Ben's hand. "You barely look like yourself anymore! Wow, 12 years makes a difference, huh?"
She was sweet to you and Ben, and Jonathan piped up, a bottle of beer in his hand.
"You haven't got drinks? Come on, let's get you something." He led the two of you over to the built-in bar at one side of the room. There was even a man in uniform stood behind it, waiting to serve whoever came up. You ordered a glass of white wine, but only a small, whereas Ben went with a bottle of beer, the same as Jonathan.
"I thought you were driving?" You asked Ben, brows knitting together as he took a swig from the bottle. He gives you a smile.
"I'll just have one, and if I end up having more we can get a taxi. Don't worry, baby." He smirked. You almost keeled over at the little nickname he had decided on adopting for you. You hadn't expected any names to be brought into play, but you sure as hell weren't complaining. You just took a sip of your wine, listening as Jonathan asked Ben about what he did for a job.
Ben wound an arm around you, pulling you into his side.
"I'm an actor, I just starred in a film that came out in the back end of last year." Ben sipped his bottle, watching Jonathan's eyes grow wide.
"Blimey mate, what was it?" Jonathan asked, fully interested.
"Bohemian Rhapsody."
Keerah gasped. "Oh shit, you're the drummer!" She laughed, covering her mouth. Ben nodded, to which Jonathan shakes his hand.
"Bloody hell, good on you mate." He replied, still in awe. Keerah tapped your shoulder, drawing your attention away from Ben, who you had been watching, no doubt with a stupid smile on your face.
"Did you know Jacob was coming?" She asked. You grimaced at the name, recognising it all too well. Ben's ears must have pricked up as his head also turns to look at Keerah.
"Jacob?" Ben echoes, to which Keerah laughs nervously.
"Sorry, didn't mean to bring up your old flame, but I remember how it ended with you two and I didn't want you to get a nasty surprise if you saw him." Keerah apologised to you and Ben, but you waved it off with a laugh.
"Don't apologise, it was 12 years ago. How petty would I be to still hold a grudge against the bloke?" You joked, earning laughs from Jonathan and Keerah, even a chuckle from Ben, but that was more because of the fact that he knew the reason why you were both here.
Jonathan took a long gulp from his bottle before spotting something out the corner of his eye.
"Well shit, it's a good job you don't have a grudge, because he's coming over now." Jonathan put a hand on Keerah's elbow, mentioning that perhaps they should give you and Jacob some space. Keerah agreed and they left, promising to speak to you and Ben later.
You turned to Ben, panic set in your eyes as you stared into his perfectly calm ones. He noticed your worry and set his drink down on the bar, placing both his hands on your shoulders.
"You feeling okay?" He asked, worry laced into his words. You couldn't help but feel a little happy at how he fretted over you and the genuine concern he seemed to show.
"Yeah, with you here I'll be fine." You assured him, placing a hand on the lapel of his jacket. Ben pressed his hand over yours, curling his fingers around yours and bringing your hand to his lips, kissing it softly as he continued to look at you. You could feel him smiling against your skin, and the simple gesture had your head reeling, wishing he would stop being so charming. But that was his whole point of being here tonight.
There was a gentle pressure on your back, the cold hand against your bare skin making your blood freeze. The sound of your name on his tongue made you want to turn around and punch him in the face. Ben lowered your hand, but kept a firm grip on it, his eyes instantly going from twinkling to dark and threatening as he looks behind you.
Turning around, you were met with the very man you had come to see tonight, but now wished you were a million miles away from. Jacob.
His brunette hair was still wavy and long, the ends brushing the collar of his black shirt that was unbuttoned at the top. He wore no tie, but instead he donned a smooth, arrogant smirk on his lips. He no doubt still thought he was the shit, as it was blatantly obvious by the way he looked past you at Ben, raising a single eyebrow silently.
You could feel Ben tense behind you, and you wondered if he might actually punch Jacob.
Part of you secretly prayed for it.
Jacob was the first to speak. "Well, I'll have to admit I didn't expect you to be looking so foxy tonight, so colour me impressed." He joked, sticking his hands in his pocket and letting his head fall slightly to one side, letting his gaze travel up and down your body at an excruciatingly slow pace.
Ben cleared his throat, causing Jacob's eyes to snap back up and look at the intimidating blond behind you.
"Hello mate, loved the film." Jacob stuck his hand out for Ben to shake, which he did. Very firmly.
Jacob couldn't completely hide the wince as Ben squeezed his hand to death. You had to admit it was a little hot seeing Ben so worked up, using his body to appear more intimidating to Jacob.
"Thanks, bud." Ben replied with a smile, although his eyes remained cold.
Jacob shifted his gaze back to you, giving you a lazy smile. "So, how have you been?"
You braved a smile as you spoke to him, remaining civil but uninterested. "Good, made some good friends and worked on some big films, such as the one I met Ben on." You leaned into Ben, feeling his hands go to your waist and pull you against his chest. Jacob nodded.
"Yes, you seem very happy together. How long have you been dating?" He asked, the tone in his voice dripping with sarcasm. You felt the itching urge in your hand to slap him cross the face. Ben hummed, turning you to face him and leaning down to look at you, his face inches away from yours.
"It's been a few months hasn't it, baby?" He asked, one hand slipping up your back to rest at the nape of your neck. Ben looks at you through heavy, almost lust-filled eyes, that bottom lip being caught in between his teeth as he gazed down at you. You knew it was just an act, but you liked having this opportunity to have fun. So you slipped your hands up to link around his neck, pulling him a little further in, giving him an award-winning smile of your own.
Ben showed no surprise at your sudden change in mood, instead he seemed to lap it up.
"That sounds about right..." You purred. "Baby."
The name he had now affectionately called you twice came as shock to him when it came from your mouth. Ben knew he shouldn't be finding it hot, the way you spoke to him and how you looked at him. But he had initially been acting at the start of the night, only now it didn't seem like it was pretend anymore.
He'd never seen you like this before, and he couldn't help but wonder if you were actually flirting with him out of your own interest.
Remembering that Jacob, the self-righteous asshole, was still stood in front of them, Ben devised a smart, little plan to get them away from him. And to also make Jacob regret ever deciding to dump you, and to even think he could try to speak to you again.
Leaning down to your ear, he whispered, "Follow me."
You looked over at Jacob who was stood there, looking rather irritated at how little you seemed to care about this presence, before looking back at Ben. Nodding your head, Ben turned to Jacob with a shit-eating grin.
"Excuse us, we have some business to take care of."
The numerous suggestions that statement left hanging in the air made you want to blush, and Jacob seemed unable to hide his scowl at the two of you as Ben pushed you away from the bloke. You daren't look over your shoulder, but out the corner of your eye you saw Ben wink at Jacob from over his shoulder, before walking alongside you.
The two of you were walking back towards the hallway that you'd arrived from, the slightly darker corridor leading away from the room. You weren't out of the room just yet, but that must have been Ben's plan, as he stopped you just before the corner where you two would vanish out of Jacob's sight.
"Sorry about this." Ben muttered to you, and before you could ask what he meant, he pulled you in and smashed his lips to yours in a hungry kiss. You couldn't help the moan that escaped you as he slipped a hand to the back of your head, running his fingers through your hair and pulling slightly, the other one trailing down to playfully grab a handful of your ass.
Although you were supposed to just be acting, you knew that everything you did in retaliation to Ben was 100% of your own accord and your own attraction to the man that was currently making out with you. He pulled away, bringing your lips apart for just a few seconds so he could whisper to you.
"Walk back a little." He commanded you, before bringing his lips back to yours and slowly pushing you backwards. You did as he asked, making little steps back until you felt the cold plaster of the wall behind you, meaning that you were pinned against Ben.
With his body pressed against yours, you couldn't help but get a little more desperate in your kissing. You parted your lips a little and Ben knew instantly what you wanted, his tongue slipping into your mouth as you deepened the kiss.
"Ben-" You gasped, as his kisses began to trail down from your mouth, travelling along your jawline and down your neck. He hummed in response but didn't stop. You moaned, but then quickly bit down on your lip to stifle it, not wanting anyone to come along and find you both.
"Ben...Baby, please." You whined, accidentally letting the nickname slip from your mouth. He stopped the kisses on your neck, bringing his face up to look at you again. His lips were slightly swollen and red, and was a little laboured in his breathing, but you found it all extremely hot.
"Baby?" He teased. You fidgeted, looking away from him in embarrassment.
"Sorry, it just slipped." You mumbled. Ben rolled his eyes, hooking a finger under your chin and bringing your face up so that you would look at him.
"Yes, and that intense make out session we just had was definitely me just acting." He told you, the sarcasm dripping off his tongue as he looked back and forth from your eyes to your lips that were no doubt swollen like his.
"When did you stop acting?" You asked, biting your lower lip as you toyed with the lapels of his jacket. Ben laughed quietly.
"When I picked you up to go swimming, two days ago."
You blink in surprise, casting your mind back to the day in question. Those kind things he said, the way he admired you and seemed so pleased when you joined him in the pool. When he had offered to be your boyfriend.
"At least we don't have to lie to these people anymore." You giggled, leaning forward and standing up onto your tiptoes to kiss him gently on his soft, pink lips. Ben didn't back away from the kiss when you did, instead leaning in again to stop your lips from breaking contact.
After one more long and passionate kiss, he finally reigned it in enough to pull away. He held out his hand for you, visibly happy when you took it without hesitation, before you began to walk back into the party together.
"Let's knock 'em dead, baby."

Love Is Complicated. (SuhoxReader) Pt.7
Pt. 1, Pt. 2, Pt. 3, Pt. 4, Pt. 5, Pt. 6
It was time for the wedding, and I was just as nervous as I was the first time around. Suho ended up inviting his parents. He was very stern with them and told them that if they don’t like it, they just shouldn’t come. To my surprise, however, they did come. They even said they were proud of him. I told my parents about the wedding, but told them not to bother to come, since they lived in the US, and it would be too much of a hassle if they did, but Suho insisted, and bought them plane tickets and a hotel anyways. I honestly didn’t care who came, I just wanted to finally be married to him.
The wedding wasn’t as big and extravagant like the first one, since we only had a week to plan, but our planner did a good job. It was held in a nearby park, and the party event was going to be in the park’s party room, and I was 100% okay with it. Suho also insisted that I got a whole new dress, instead of the one I had last time. He said that since he’s already seen me in it, it would be bad luck.
I looked at myself in the mirror, like I did before, and left when it was time to go. My dad led me down the isle again, and I was finally standing with Suho in front of me.
“No one is gonna run down the isle confessing their love to you, right?” He asked in a whisper, making me chuckle.
“I really hope not, and I hope it’s the same way for you.” I say, half joking. He smiled and shook his head. The pastor said his thing and we said our vows and I do’s and this time, actually got to kiss, making the marriage official.
~~~
After the reception, Suho and I immediately got in the limo and drove to our honeymoon destination. We just went to Busan, we couldn’t go far since Suho only took a couple days off.
Our hotel room was gorgeous, and even though it was really cold and we couldn’t go to the beach, there was a spa and heated pool we were planning on going to, but since we got there pretty late, we went straight to bed and watched a movie, made out a little bit, and when the movie was almost over, he started doing work on his laptop when he remembered that he had something due tomorrow, so I cuddled up to him and fell asleep.
The next morning, we woke up early, and went to the spa. We did the couple treatment, and it was the best thing ever, honestly. For once, we both just got to relax and not worry about work, or Suho’s best friend being in love with him or anything. After the spa, we went shopping, mainly for the kids, even though we didn’t know the gender of the babies yet, we kind of just guessed.
Once we were done, we went swimming. AND after that, we were exhausted, so we went back to the hotel room.
“Today was fun, but I could sleep for a good ten hours.” Suho said, plopping on the bed.
“Me too.” I sigh, laying beside him.
“You know what we could do to end a relaxing but tiring day?” Suho suggested, adjusting himself so he was looking down at me. I smiled, and wrapped my arms around his neck and we leaned into each other, before our lips could touch, his cell phone rang, interrupting us like it did more than it should.
“Suho.” I whined. He sighed and looked at his phone, and then answered.
“Hello?” He said, sitting up correctly. He listened to whoever was on the phone for a second, but stopped them from going any further in the conversation. “Listen, I love you, I really do, and I want to hear all about it, but, I’m kind of really busy right now. Can I call you later?” He asked. “I’m sorry. Okay. I’ll call you later. Bye.” He said, hanging the phone up.
“Who do you love that’s not me?” I asked, pouting a bit.
“That was Avia. She said Chen moved in, and she wanted to tell me about it. But that’s not important.” He said, leaning closer to me again, but I pulled away a little.
“I know you don’t mean it like that, but could you not... Tell her you love her? It’s just kind of not settling to hear.” I asked. “I’m sorry, is that dramatic? I don’t want to be that crazy wife, who everyone thinks is trying to control her husband.” I say, slightly freaking out a little.
“Sorry, all I heard was wife and husband.” He said, giving me a kiss. “I understand how you feel. I’ve told you before, and I’ll tell you a million times more, you have nothing to worry about.” He said, giving me another kiss.
We were on the honeymoon for another day, and then late that night, we drove back home. I liked being on the honeymoon, but nothing really beats being home to be honest. The only thing was, Suho had to go back to work and I wouldn’t be able to see him. Just because he’s at work, doesn’t mean I can’t visit him though.
The next morning, he got up early like usual, but instead of sleeping in, I decided to get up as well, and get ready with him. I turned on music, but it was like early 2000’s rap that Suho doesn’t know, but I made him listen to anyways. I got in the shower as he finished doing whatever he was doing. Before I fully got in, he stopped me.
"Look!" He said, excitedly, turning me to the mirror. "Your baby bump is starting to show." He said, smiling. I smiled too, and put my hands on my stomach.
"We should probably think up some names soon. We need to be prepared." I said, getting fully in the shower now.
"Speaking of being prepared, I was thinking-" Soho started, but like anytime he was going to say something important, his phone started ringing. "Oh, this is important, I need to take this." He said, answering the phone. "Hello? Yeah, I'm getting ready now, I'll be in the office in the next hour." He said, leaving the bathroom. I rolled my eyes, and continued taking my shower. Once I got out, Suho came back in. "That was corporate, there's gonna be a meeting as soon as I get in, so I need to go now. But, I wanna talk to you when I get home." He said, kissing the top of my head.
"Will you be home late tonight then?" I asked.
"Probably, the meeting is supposed to last all day, so I won't be able to eat lunch either. We might have a little break, but I'll probably just work more." He said.
"You shouldn't work yourself like this, you'll get sick." I said, worried for him.
"I'll be fine, don't worry about me too much, okay?" He said, kissing my cheek this time. "i gotta go. I'll text you when I can." He said, leaving the bathroom.
I finished getting ready, and then ran some errands while the maids cleaned the apartment. I didn't want to be in their way. On my way out of the apartment, I ran into Avia. I smiled awkwardly, and nodded my head to her just a little. And of course, we would have gotten on the same elevator, riding from the top floor to the bottom. The ride down was silent, and awkward and I was more than happy when the doors opened to the floor I was getting off at.
Suho came home later than expected. Which, I wasn’t surprised, but it would’ve been nice to at least eat dinner with him tonight. I ended up leaving him food in the fridge, and tried to stay up and wait for him, but I fell asleep on the couch. Like most nights, when Suho came home, he immediately would wake me up without trying to. I heard the door open and opened my eyes to see if it was him. He smiled, took off his shoes and put his coat jacket on the stand by the door.
“Did I wake you? I’m sorry.” He said, sitting next to me on the couch. “You should sleep in the bed, you’ll catch a cold out here.” Suho said, putting my legs on his lap, and letting me continue to lay down comfortably.
“I wanted to wait for you. Dinner’s in the fridge if you’re hungry. I’m sure you are, you probably haven’t eaten all day.” I say.
“I’m starving.” He said, putting his hands on his stomach.
“By the way, what did you want to talk about this morning?” I asked, sitting up a bit.
“This morning?” He said, in thought. “Oh, so I had this idea.” He said.
“Let’s hear it.” I say.
“This Christmas, how would you like to go to Germany, and spend a whole week there? We could celebrate Christmas there and I’ll make sure no one from work bothers me.” He suggested.
“A week in Germany!? Of course!” I said, excited.
“However, there’s one thing.” He said, making me slump my shoulders.
“Uh oh.” I said, scared to hear what that one thing is.
“I would like to invite Avia, and anyone else of her choosing.” He said. I whined a little like a two year old, and laid back down. “Come on, she’s still my friend, and I consider her family. I would like to spend Christmas with her too. And it’s not like it’ll just be the three of us, there’ll be another person.” He said. “And I’ll make sure that we all have fun and there’s no drama. Plus there’s a Christmas present I have that effects all of us.” He said, wiggling his eyebrows a bit.
“Fine, but I’m gonna complain about it.” I said. He smiled, and kissed my forehead.
“Good. I’ll call her tomorrow and ask if she can come.” He said, with a smile. I know I’ve been impossible for the past few days, so I wanted to make him happy. “In the mean time, I’m going to eat, you go get some sleep in the bed, Okay? I won’t be too long.” He said, moving my legs and going to the kitchen as I went to our bedroom and fell asleep.
~~Avia’s P.O.V~~
I got a call that I could come into work, I’ve applied at a near by cafe, and got the job, luckily. However, apparently, after the fight at the after party, Kai fired Sehun and he was now working at this cafe, but I was pretty excited, so I got up quickly, put my hair in a messy ponytai. I threw on a pair of leggings and sweater and headed to the cafe.
“You’re slow, we called you in like an hour ago.” Sehun said, pulling out two mugs from underneath the counter. “Get back here,”
I went behind the counter and walked to him.
“Okay, so I’m going to start with basics. So a classic espresso and cream.” He began. “Wait, put this on.” He tossed me a green T-shirt, that honestly looked terrible, but I didn’t argue. I put it over my sweater so i could continue working.
“Okay, so you go over to this machine, and fill the cup up like halfway.” He demonstrated, and I did the same after him. “This is the hard part,” He said. I was only half paying attention now, already growing bored. He put his hand on my face, and forced me to look at him. “I need you to pay attention, Okay?”
“It’s just coffee,” I said, my voice distorted due to being squished. I pushed his hands away.
“Just coffee.” He scoffed. “Tell that to my one million Instagram followers, who come to me for quality espresso art.” Sehun threw the towel he was holding in his hand over his shoulder.
“What the hell happened to you?” I asked.
“No cursing in uniform, now pay attention. So you just pour starting from the bottom, wiggle it back and forth, and then pull back. See? Easy peasy.” He set the cup down on the counter, and rang the bell next to the register. “Now you try,” he leaned his elbow on the counter. I tried but it just ended up a swirly mess.
“How is this easy?” I stomped. My phone started ringing in my pocket. I pulled it out, and saw it was Suho. “Ooooh,” I smiled, answering. “Hello?” Sehun took my phone and hung up. “Ugh rude!” He put my phone in his back pocket.
“Just be happy I didn’t put it in the blender like I did with the last guy who worked here.”
“Do you think you’re taking this a bit too seriously?” I asked.
“I don’t think so. I took finance too seriously, and now, I’m out and having a better time than ever, so I’m not going to mess this up.” He said. “Okay, Just watch me and figure it out as you go. I think you’ll catch on.” He said. I was still curious as to why Suho called me in the middle of the day.
~~Your P.O.V~~
“I called Avia, but she hung up immediately.” Suho said, putting his phone back in his pocket.
“Oh well, looks like she doesn’t want to go.” I shrug.
“I didnt even ask her yet.” Suho said. I pouted a little, and sat on the couch. “You’ll have fun, I promise. We’ll have a lot of time together, there won’t be any work, or distractions,” He said, suggestively, sitting next to me.
“We’ll have one distraction.” I say. He put his finger under my chin, and made me look at him.
“Avia won’t be a distraction. She’ll bring Kyungsoo most likely, and she’ll be too preoccupied with him.” He said.
“Sure.” I say, rolling my eyes. He pulled me closer to him.
“Don’t be like that. You’ll have a good time. We’ll have a good time. Who knows, maybe we’ll end up with triplets by the end of this trip.” He said, putting his forehead to mine.
“That’s not how that works. I’m already pregnant, I can’t get pregnant again.” I laughed.
“I know, but I can hope.” He said, giving me a kiss.
“Let’s just be happy for the two we’re gonna have.” I say.
“I guess you’re right. I’ve just become greedy, haven’t I?” He asked. Suho’s phone rang, and he answered after a few seconds. “Avia, hey. Why’d you hang up earlier? You have a job now? Where?” Suho asked. “A cafe? Well, congratulations. Oh, what did I call for? Oh yeah, so, for Christmas week, (Y/N) and I are going to go to Germany, and were wondering if you wanted to come with us. You can bring whoever you’d like.” He explained. “Okay, great. We’ll see you soon.” He said, before hanging up. “Avia’s in.” He said.
“Great.” I sigh.
Bye, Korea
I taught English in Busan, Korea for a year, ending June 2011. I remember the dread I felt flying to Portland then. I left Portland again and returned to Korea February 2013. I felt like I was home. Since then, I’ve quit teaching and I’ve been working remotely for almost four years. When I flew back to Portland in August 2017, without any intention of coming back to South Korea, butterflies (different from before) filled my stomach.
I love Korea and it’s been a great experience living there. I love learning more about where I come from and improving on the language. I also know in my heart that I’m American and that I want to create my home in the U.S.
For the last month in Korea, I walked around as if in a trance. I can’t believe how much time has passed and how much life has changed. I miss singing along with my appliances (i.e. rice cooker and washing machine) and waking up with tinfoil in my bed because I fell asleep eating kimbap.
I feel nostalgic for a time, as well as places, which is an overwhelming feeling. It’s scary to think of returning to Korea, and think of the last time I left, as if no time had passed at all. Time goes fast, life is short, and the impermanence of things is hitting me harder than it ever has.
I did SO much in Korea, met amazing people, ate all the things, and had amazing experiences. But, still, I know I can’t do everything I wanted to do or do things again. There are so many places to go in this world, but maybe I’ll be back. Because I obsessively make lists, here’s a list of places I wanted to experience but didn’t make the time for:
Andong Traditional Folk Village - Rural Korea is a sharp contrast from the fast-paced neon and concrete cityscapes. I never went to the mask festival at the end of September and beginning of October each year. Apparently this is the town for some awesome chicken, as well.
Anyang Art Park (안양예술공원) - This a cool park in Anyang City that's free and a photo dream. You can get off at Anyang Station (Line 1) and take bus number 2 to the park. It's a very large place and it might be a bit confusing, but so many photo worthy spots. Definitely wear walking shoes and bring water in this heat!
Beopgi basin - Nestled in the mountains just 45 minutes north of Busan. Renting a car and visiting Hongryong Falls (홍룡폭포) would be a great way to spend a day.
Beopjusa temple stay - Literally “Mountain Removed from Worldliness,” Songnisan is where the 7th-century Buddhist Beopjusa temple is still located. It has the largest buddha in Korea.
Bukchon Village - I’ve been here before but really wanted to visit this picturesque neighborhood again. It’s flanked by two palaces —Gyeongbok Palace to the west and Changdeok Palace to the east— this village has the largest cluster of privately owned traditional Korean wooden homes or hanok in Seoul. The easiest way to get to Bukchon in Seoul is to go out Anguk Station (subway line 3) Exit 3.
Cheongdo - I probably couldn’t stomach the bull fights but I always wanted to see the Wine Tunnel (와인 터널).
I really wanted to go to Chuncheon/Gapyeong again just to eat the Dak Galbi (닭갈비). I could eat dalkkalbi every day, and it really is the best where it was invented. The two best places are “Tong Na Mu Jip” and “1.5.″
I’ve been to Geoje several times, but, yeah, I want to go again. I’d love to hike up Mt. Daegumsan, take a short boat ride to Oedo Island, and ride the zipline at Deokpo Beach.
I visited my friend Anne in Suwon when she was teaching a camp there, but I didn’t have the time to explore the Hwaseong Fortress (수원 화성) or Toilet Museum.
Jeonju - I’d like to try the bibimbap and visit the Hanok Village (전주 한옥마을).
Jirisan - What a shame that I never made it to the top of this mountain. I’ll always cherish the lovely trips I’ve had out there and only wish I could have spent more time there.
Kimchi Museum - I walked by this place so many times in Insadong but never went. Where else in the world will you be able to go to a museum solely dedicated to the Korean staple, kimchi? Kimchi, or seasoned fermented vegetables, is at the heart of Korean culture and its food and is usually eaten with every meal. There are 187 different documented types, ranging from kimchi of different ripeness levels to water kimchi, cucumber kimchi, and radish kimchi varieties. In addition, it is not uncommon for Korean households to have refrigerators solely dedicated for the storage of kimchi. At the museum, you can taste 7-8 different types of kimchi, view bacteria found in kimchi under a microscope, and even learn how to make kimchi in the education room.
Oh, to see Kyeongju again. Korea used to be divided into three major kingdoms (Silla, Baekje, and Goguryeo) until the Silla kingdom conquered the other kingdoms and made Gyeongju the capital. Gyeongju remained the capital of this region for approximately 1000 years, leading to the creation of a number of archaeological treasures that are well worth your time.
On several visits to Seoul, I missed out visiting a Hanbok Cafe in Insadong or the Princess Diary Cafe outside Exit 3 of the Ehwa Women’s University subway station. These dress cafes give you the opportunity to wear a Korean traditional dress or wedding dress at rental prices of 15,000₩ ~ 40,000₩ an hour.
The Robo Life Museum in Pohang does require a reservation but looks pretty awesome. Some are miniature robots programmed to be Psy back up dancers, some are robotic fish that swim, and some are robotic seals designed for therapy.
Seonyudo sits off the west coast of the peninsula, 90 minutes from Gunsan by boat.
Seoraksan again. It was so lovely in the fall --but I see endless beauty in every season.
Seoul Fortress Trail, the Naksan section covers an enjoyable scenic route from Hansung University Station and the Hyehwa Gate traveling south alongside Naksan Park and Ihwa Mural Village until you arrive in the crowded, neon streets of Dongdaemun with the landmark Dongdaemun Gate at the foot of the pathway. The route itself doesn’t take too long to cover with sunset a recommended time to visit so as to enjoy the spectacular views across the city at their finest. Accessible from Hansung University Station, Seoul Subway Line 4 Exit 4.
Seoul Palaces - There are a lot of them (e.g. Gyeonghui Palace. Deoksugung, Changdeokgung, Changgyeonggung, Gyeongbokgung) and many are near each other. I always planned to see them all but ultimately got a distracted or bored.
Seoul Forest - This park was opened in 2005 and features absolute beauty. It’s a bit of a trip from downtown Seoul, but I’ve heard it has five connected parks and it’s possible to see deer Located outside Seoul Forest Station (Subway Bundang Line) Exit 3.
Ujeon Beach in “Slow City”
Controversy aside, I wanna see Ulleungdo + Dokdo.
Uponeup (우포늪) is the largest and oldest wetland area in Korea, a protected area that dates back to times when dinosaurs ruled the world. A favouite with Korean photographers due to the unspoiled setting and views that the wetlands offer up, it sounds like a romantic weekend.
Yeosu is a port city on South Korea’s East China Sea coast. I haven’t researched what to do there but I’ve always wanted to visit.
I don’t know much about the city of Yulpo but when my friend Allison went, she couldn’t wait to share: “I just spent three days there and visited the big tea plantation ten minutes away (TWICE!). It's a tiny farm village next to an empty beach. And there is a green tea spa on the beach. It was heaven.”
Alright, Korea, maybe next time.
A Simple Act.
Set just prior to Series 33, Episode 16 and references events in Episode 15.
-x-
Charlie reentered their bedroom after his morning shower to find Duffy still sat at her dressing table, looking into the mirror, various hair accessories and make up items scattered across the surface in front of her. Buttoning up his shirt he watched her once again attempt to start braiding her hair ready for work. She was able to divide her hair into sections but each time she lifted her left arm to begin weaving the sections together he'd see, via the mirror's reflection, her wince silently in pain.
"Why don't you just tie it back in a ponytail if your shoulder is still bothering you?" He suggested.
She sighed. "I can manage Charlie."
"Maybe you should stay home another day if you're struggling..."
She rolled her eyes at him through the mirror. "I'm perfectly fine now. I'm needed at work and I'd go crazy spending another day here all by myself while you're on shift."
He walked over to her and placed his hand on her right shoulder. "I could help you put it up?"
She turned and looked at him aghast. "Have you ever actually styled hair before?"
He looked down shyly. "I used to sometimes brush my mother's for her. When she was poorly." He replied quietly.
Duffy's features softened at his admission and she raised her hand to grasp his. He didn't often speak about his mum. She knew the topic caused him great pain so she didn't push him further. She squeezed his hand and smiled gently at him. She tilted her head and her smile widened. "Right then, let's put your hairdressing skills to the test."
"Um... OK..." He moved to stand behind her and ran his fingers through her hair nervously.
"Do you need me to talk you through it?"
"I can manage! I've seen you do it enough times. It can't be that difficult."
Taking the brush from her outstretched hand he used it to begin to seperate her hair, trying not to get distracted by the silky softness of the strands between his fingers.
Charlie eventually managed to get the top part of her hair into three equal sections but then stopped. What now? He'd been so confident when he'd suggested the idea, not thinking for one second that she'd actually take him up on the offer. He was quickly realising that although he had indeed watched her do her hair many times in the past he hadn't actually been paying attention to what she was doing, there had been far too many other things to distract his focus away from that.
Seeing his indecision and confusion in the mirror, Duffy giggled. "Left over middle then right over middle."
Well that just baffled him further! Why did women's hairstyles have to sound like such a riddle? Then he suddenly realised, he was holding three sections of hair - left, right and middle... He shook his head, chuckling to himself, and began to slowly plait her hair.
"Make sure you bring in the side sections as you work your way down. You also need to plait it tighter than that or it's going to start falling out later." She pointed out as she watched him in the mirror.
He continued til he reached the hair near her ears. Lifting it as carefully as he could he still caught sight of her wincing. "Sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you. I was trying my best to be gentle." He said sadly.
"You didn't hurt me, it's fine." She replied softly, attempting to reassure him.
"Your face told a different story sweetheart."
She sighed and their eyes met in the mirror. He bent down and placed a gentle kiss next to the scar that was still healing under her hair. "You really scared me when you called last week. I couldn't bare the thought..." His eyes shone with unshed tears and he didn't trust himself to finish the sentence.
"Hey, come on. I'm fine. I've already said I'll be more careful in future."
Charlie sighed and turned to continue braiding Duffy's hair. Why was she still insisting on putting on a brave face? Even when they were alone. Finishing the braid, he held out his hand as she passed him a hair tie to secure the ends together. "Now what?" He asked.
"Twist it under and pin it in place." She instructed, handing him a couple of grips.
He quickly completed the task and stood back slightly. "Ta da!" He announced with a grin.
Duffy tilted her head to look at how he'd gotten on, the serious look on her face spoiled by the mischievous glint in her eyes. "Not bad for a beginner." She concluded.
"I'll let you struggle by yourself in future then." He pouted playfully.
She twisted on the stool to face him and placed her arms around his waist. "Thank you for helping me Charlie." She replied with a smile.
Leaning back she caught sight of the clock on the bedside table. "Is that the time already?" She exclaimed. "Can you go check everything is ready downstairs while I do my make up quickly?"
After Charlie left the room she looked down at the various items on the table in front of her. She sighed, she didn't really feel like making much effort but also didn't want to look like crap either. She settled on a light base with just a bit of mascara and lipstick. That'd do. Looking back over at the clock she saw they needed to leave right now or they would be late for their shift.
Standing in the hallway Charlie saw her leave their bedroom and hurry towards the stairs, throwing items into her handbag as she did so. "Duffy! Look where you're going and don't run down the stairs!" He called up at her.
She reached the bottom of the stairs and almost crashed into him. "Huh?" She finally looked up from her bag.
"Do you want to end up a patient again? You didn't even look as you ran down the stairs!" He tried to keep the panicked anger from his voice but some leaked into his tone.
Her harsh reply died on her tongue as she looked at his face and saw the genuine terror in his eyes. She placed her arms around his waist and kissed him gently. "Sorry." She replied, looking sheepish. "I didn't think."
Charlie stroked her cheek and gave her an indulgent smile. "Whatever am I going to do with you eh?"
"Well you could drive me to work before we're both late." She giggled, attempting to lighten the mood.
"Alright, alright, lead the way." He laughed as they walked to his car.
The first part of the journey passed in comfortable quietness but as they pulled up at the traffic lights leading into the town centre Charlie turned to look over at Duffy with a smile. "I've been thinking..."
"Do I need to brace myself for this?" She chuckled.
"You know how I said I was going to make more time for us? Well I think we should plan some adventures, make some unforgettable memories while we have the chance to."
Panic gripped Duffy's chest at his words. How did he know? He couldn't possibly have seen the tablet. Was this his way of raising the topic? She snapped her head around to look at him but at just that moment the traffic lights changed to green and his attention was diverted back to the road. No, she was just being paranoid. She needed to calm down. She took a deep breath and swallowed. "So, um, what did you have in mind for these adventures?"
As they turned another corner the familiar outline of the hospital buildings loomed into view. "Well you can get these experience days. I saw them online. There's all sorts of different ones - car racing, spa days..."
"Car racing?!" She repeated incredulously.
"It was just an example. Actually there was one I saw that looked good. Give me a moment to park the car and I'll show it to you."
Dedicated to my sweet family
SET THE SCENE
I’ve been on my fair share of cruises – Hawaii, Caribbean, and another Alaskan cruise by Holland Cruise lines – and thus, I think I can safely say that I have had enough comparison to write a pretty good review on a cruise ship. The Bliss is the newest and biggest ship to sail the Alaskan waters and I will say it definitely lives up to its ship name. But before I go into the ship, let me give you a snapshot of beautiful Alaska.
Cerulean blue waters with hints of green flow around the gorgeous state of Alaska. The skies alternate between clear blue and a light gray and there is a chill in the air that is a profound welcomed relief from the humid heat of Texas (where I’m from). The air is devoid of heavy pollution and car traffic fumes and every city has its quiet charm. Salmon in every shape and color climb the salmon ladders while bald eagles dominate the skies.
The cold air is contrasted by a hot cup of chowder in chilled hands. One of the little things in life is having your insides immediately warmed by sip of a hot latte. Or being in the middle of a forest surrounded by trees connected together by fairy lights while roasting marshmallows over a large fire.
The most brilliant sharp icy blue glaciers and its pieces float enchantingly and menacingly in the waters. Whales swim by, peaking their heads and showing off their tails as cruisers lean over, awed, with binoculars. Waterfalls bloom out of the sides of mountains with the force of the water creating a thunderous sound.
This state is so breathtaking in every way.
THE BASICS
Time of Travel: July Type of Travel: Family
THE SHIP
Size: While Bliss is definitely not the biggest cruise ship in the world, it definitely appears like the biggest ship on the Alaskan waters when all the ships are parked next to each other at the ports. It’s impressive to see from afar and to walk up to when returning from the city.
We saw so many whales from our cruise ship windows! Not the best photo but I got too excited and eventually put away my camera to just enjoy the magnificent sights
Exterior Décor: The front of the ship is beautifully decorated and my brother and I joked that the artwork definitely invited all the whales to swim up near our ship. I was honestly so surprised by how many whales I saw on the cruise – definitely more than the last time I was in Alaska. The front of the ship is illustrated with the wildlife of the ocean – whales, turtles, and rays. It’s the perfect artwork for a cruise ship.
Interior Décor: The inside of the ship is also tastefully ornamented. In the center of the ship is a gorgeous glass-appearing staircase that wraps around and glitters in the light. The hot tubs are purposefully placed at the tail end of the ship and on the sides so there is a clear view of the ocean. Every room is carefully constructed to its theme.
Service: The staff on the ship is 5/5 stars. They are so incredibly friendly and accommodating and always willing to strike up a good conversation with you but they also know when to leave you alone as well. They always have a smile for you and their response to everything is quick. They all come from different countries around the world and it is fascinating to hear their stories and everywhere they have traveled!
THINGS TO DO ON THE SHIP
Observation Lounge: Located at the front of the ship, this area was one of my favorite areas on the ship. Decked out in large windows showcasing the beauty of Alaska, the lounge is full of comfy arm chairs and the best part? The bar in the middle as well as two buffets of tea time food fully stocked with finger sandwiches, salads, and desserts. On the days at sea, it’s the perfect area to chill with family and friends, play cards, and observe the Alaskan magnificence without being in the cold.
The Pool and Aqua Park: On one of the top decks of the ship is the pool and the incredible water slides on the ship. There is one water slide where you slide down in rafts and there is one thrilling slide that literally hangs over the ocean! There is a fun area where the kids congregate and hot tubs that dot the sides of the ship as well as the rear end. I highly recommend chilling in the hot tubs at the rear so you can see the full view of the ocean behind you as the ship sails.
Race Track: Yes, this ship has a whole level dedicated to a race track where you can race your family and friends either in a single cart or a double seater cart.
TIP: Book your reservations before you get onto the ship! My family and I did not realize that seats were limited so we did not get to try out this part of the cruise.
It does cost a small fee per drive
Mini Golf
Laser Tag: a small fee
Bliss Casino
Video Arcade
Bowling Alley: a small two lane bowling alley. It gets busy really fast! A small fee
Entourage Teen Club: a haven away from the parents – this place has video games, music, movies!
Fitness Center: this fitness center is legit. There is a running track outside and every machine and weight you could possibly need for a week long cruise.
Guppies: A great area for parents and their kids. Many interactive activities
Hair Salon
Plenty of Spas
Mandara Spa and Salon
Spa Salt Room – natural salt caves – halotherapy
Spa Snow Room – an ice cold arctic environment
Spa Thermal Suite
SHOWS
My favorite thing about cruises is the kind of night time entertainment the ship provides meaning the evening shows. I would say my review for this ship’s shows is probably a 4/5 stars in comparison to the other ships I’ve been on. The best shows I’ve seen on a ship still goes to Allure of the Seas, but this ship definitely provides a great entertainment and truly hats off to the hard working actresses and actors!
Happy Hour Prohibition: The Musical – $30 per person. This musical is set in a speakeasy and set in the Prohibition Era. My family and I chose not to see this one just because there was a fee and plenty of other free shows to see
Jersey Boys – such a great show about Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons
Havana – set at The Palace of Lights, this show brings you the beat and culture of Cuba (takes me back to my time in the Cuban capital!)
The great bands on the ship that play across different bars and lounges
Plenty of comedy shows – make sure you book when you get on the ship!
SHIP ROOM
My family of four booked two separate rooms without ocean views. I always encourage people that if you go on a cruise, try to book rooms with ocean views but obviously if it’s not affordable or available, then it is definitely not the end of the world. I only encourage ocean views for two reasons. One, I think it really helps with orientation to time and feeling as though you are not holed up on the ship. A window or a balcony brings light, views, and a breath of fresh air.
But like I said before, if you can’t get a room with ocean views, then it is completely okay too! My family got non-ocean view rooms and we were completely satisfied. The rooms were on the smaller side (but to be expected with cruise ships), but they were clean. The beds were super comfortable and could be put together or turned into two beds. The TV has a huge list of movies to buy but also a great select of TV channels that plays a cycle of movies depending on genre (action, romance, drama).
Nothing better than opening the door to your room and finding complimentary champagne!
BARS AND LOUNGES
There are so many bars and lounges on the ship and they are all excellent. So many options to choose from that I didn’t even get a chance to make it to all of them
Atrium Bar: This is the center of the ship and where a lot of the main ship’s entertainment occurs. There is a stage area and a movie screen where there are nightly movies and hilarious game shows.
Horizon Lounge
Humidor Cigar Lounge
Maltings Whiskey Bar
Mixx Bar
Skyline Bar
Social Comedy and Night Club
Spice H2O – the pool bar
Sugarcane Mojito Bar
The A-List Bar
The Cavern Club
The District Brew House
Vide Beach Club
THE FOOD
The Local: The 24hr pub experience! The two pros of this place is that it is open 24 hrs, the food is free, and there is a great view of the Atrium Bar stage meaning you can eat and watch entertainment one floor below
The Dining Rooms: There are three dining rooms on the ship that you can eat lunch and dinner at. Unlike the other cruises I’ve been on where you had to make reservations ahead of time and to eat at an assigned time, this cruise gives you the liberty to go whenever you would like. Because there are several dining rooms, there is always plenty of space at any time and thus you can dine on your own schedule.
Every day, there is a menu posted outside the dining rooms. You don’t have to look at each of the dining rooms’ menus because they are all the same. The menu does change for lunch and dinner every day
My mom was a bit disappointed that there was no true formal night with a lobster dish as we have found on other cruise ships
The Garden Café Buffet: I have to say that usually I am not a fan of the cruise buffets. The food usually is sub-par, but I have to say I was mildly impressed with the menu at this buffet. My family and I actually ended up eating here more than the dining rooms because of the expansive options and the ever changing menu.
There are hamburger/hot dog stations, Indian food station, a hot food station that changes every day according to the theme, Italian station, cold cuts station, Asian food station, salad station, and a huge dessert station
For drinks, there is a bar and non-alcoholic beverages such as tea, coffee, and different flavored waters
Room Service: This is complimentary and 24hrs a day but there is a service fee!
Restaurants (not complementary)
Ocean Blue – Seafood
Los Lobos – Mexican
Food Republic – Fusion
Cagney’s Steakhouse
Coco’s – Chocolate, Crepes
Dolce Gelato
Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville at Sea
La Cucina – Italian
Le Bistro – French
Q – Texas BBQ
Teppanyaki
The Bake Shop
Starbucks
Tea Time Snacks
Room service juice with my champagne to make mimosas
PROS AND CONS
Pros
The last Alaskan cruise I went on seemed catered to adults, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that this cruise really catered to family and the young kids.
Flexible dining room schedule
Plenty of activities on the ship
Friendly staff
Entertaining game shows that allows most of the ship guests to interact with each other
The buffet food is better than the other cruise ships I’ve sailed with
They have a package that every room gets on the ship – meaning that your price of the cruise comes with every ship getting a certain amount off at each excursion per port or a drinking ticket in which all the alcoholic beverages were free
They were also very big on hygiene and sanitizers
Cons
No main lobster dish
Not a true formal night on the ship (this is a pro or con depending on what your opinion of this is)
Most of the activities on the ship came with a small fee
The room service food was definitely not as good in quality as the rest of the food on the ship
ITINERARY
Detailed itineraries on how to do each port coming soon!
Seattle, Washington
Ketchikan, Alaska
Juneau, Alaska
Skagway, Alaska
Victoria, BC
Basically, I highly recommend this cruise as your first way of exploring Alaska!
Happy Traveling!
