I Remember Everything
bradley ‘rooster’ bradshaw x mitchell!reader
Inspired by the song ‘I Remember Everything’ by Zach Bryan -> you and Bradley were only together back then to piss off your dad.. right?
Flashbacks & song lyrics in italics
top gun masterlist
“What can I get ya?” You ask, back turned to the patron but you could feel their expectant presence behind you. “Rotgut whiskey's gonna ease my mind” your breath hitched in your throat as you recognised the voice, pivoting to the voice you used to yearn for just to comfort your own sanity. “Bradley.”
Yourself and Bradley went way back. Back further than you wanted to admit. You started fraternising with him when you were freshly eighteen, pissed off at your father, Pete Mitchell. And as president of the ‘Pete-Mitchell-Hatred Club’, Bradley was more than happy to oblige. He himself was 25, finally managing to begin his naval training without any support of his surrogate uncle, and he’d just dumped you in California and fucked off to the dessert for annoying some admiral, leaving you with Penny despite your argument that you were old enough now to make your own decisions.
Bradley was at a two month station at top gun, not to train; no he wasn’t at that stage in his naval aviation training yet, but to boost morale and promote dog-fighting initiative amongst the new recruits. To throw them in at the deep end and put them up against the best.
You knew the two of them didn’t get along and you knew how your father yearned for a relationship with Bradley, so it was the perfect was to get under his skin in a way that would truly aggravate him. Being with Bradley.
At first, the reason Bradley even entertained your behaviour because he knew how it would get to maverick and how, realistically, Maverick had absolutely no say in what you did anymore. Because you were an adult making your own choices, and he surrendered any parental ties on Bradley when he withdrew his papers. It was a win-win situation as far as he was concerned, that was until he really started to fall for you.
It was a hot day in mid-July and Bradley had a day off so he opted to spend it with you, honking his horn twice in his Bronco, right outside Maverick’s house as you came running out and your dad shouted after you - regardless of the fact you were always in the passenger seat. You made it to the beach but ended up in Bradley’s military accommodation, as per usual. He watched the way your hair whipped as you observed passers-by, in nothing but a bikini as your beach towel rests on the dryin’ line.
He approached you and rested his head on your shoulder, hands on your hips as he followed your eye-line to where you were watching a couple of golden-coast born boys playing volleyball on the beach.
“Do I remind you of your daddy in his ‘88 Ford?” He asked as you handed him his whiskey from across the bar. You scoffed. “You were like a Labrador hanging out the passenger door” he continued, reminiscing on the way you used to hang your body half out of the window to feel the humid breeze against your skin, a panicked Bradley with his knuckles going white as his fingers grasped at the loop holes of your worn denim shorts to keep you in the vehicle.
The sand from your hair was blowing in his eyes. He’d blame it on the beach, grown men don’t cry. He knew what you wanted out of this: a bit of fun, a dig at your father. And he knew that he shouldn’t be feeling the way he did, a sense of growing adoration for you and your company. Your constant sleep overs and loving attention.
“Do you remember that beat down basement couch?” He asked after the silence and for the first time since you looked at him, you smiled. “God I loved that thing, of course I do Brad” you say in an almost accidentally small voice. “I'd sing you my love songs and you'd tell me about how your mama ran off and pawned her ring” you nodded “I remember,” you began with a steady inhale “I remember everything.”
You worked at the hard deck over the summer while you waited on news from the colleges you’d applied to, Bradley always overstaying his welcome despite you giving a cold shoulder at closing time, before he’d approach you and manage to coax you away from the bar for the evening.
“You were begging me to stay 'til the sun rose” you remembered with a grin, thinking back on all the times you’d given into him. Bradley could hardly muster any sort of words, unable to string a sentence together as he realised you really did appreciate his first summer in North Island; strained words come on out of a grown man's mouth when his mind's broke. Thinking of the pictures and passing time, all these years apart. He wondered if you were married now, if the hard deck was what you actually did for work, if you had a man, a child, a life without him, before you broke the silence with your realisation. “You only smile like that when you're drinking” you tell his dopey grin. “I wish I didn't, but I do… remember every moment on the nights with you” he tells you.
You begin to wipe down the counter, questioning his reiterative choice of beverage. “You're drinkin' everything to ease your mind?” You asked, rhetorically. “But when the hell are you gonna ease mine?” He retorted in question and you creased your brows. He peered around the bar, it still technically closed, being only 4pm, but you couldn’t deny Bradley entrance. Not after your history together. Acknowledging that there was nobody else, he took it in his stride to zip around the bar to you, trapping you against the bar and leaning closer, you could smell the Rotgun whiskey on his mouth. “You're like concrete feet in the summer heat” he tells you with a shake of his head, laughing sarcastically as he throws his head back “It burns like hell when two souls meet”.
You look up at him and trace his moustache with your thumbs, hands cupping his chiselled jaw. “No, you'll never be the man that you always swore” you tell him, reminding him that he was nothing like your father, but you nod to the familiar Bronco in the parking lot “but I'll remember you singin' in that '88 Ford”, you smile.
“Are you gonna give me a cold shoulder at closing time?” He asked “are you gonna be begging me to stay ‘til the sun rose?” You ask in response. “You of all people know that strained words come on out of a grown man's mouth when his mind's broke” he whispers, moving to bury his head between your collar and jaw. “I still think about the pictures and passing time” you tell him, threading your hands into his hair.
You feel his brows raising “what? So I wasn’t just a way to get back at your daddy?” He asked and you shook your head. “What? I thought I was a way for you to get back at him. No, you were everything to me Bradley. Everything. You just happened to be there when I wasn’t getting along with Mav” you tell him and he takes his head from the crevice of your neck to give you a boyish smile as he realises after all this time, his feelings were always requited. “You only smile like that when you're drinking” you tell him. “I wish I didn't, but I do remember every moment on the nights with you” you tell him and he creases his brows.
“Now why’re you tryna forget me, honey?” He asked, nose almost pressed against your own. Almost. “Well you’re probably married now, kids, job, everything.” You say meekly. “And I never moved on.” His breath caught in his throat. “Darlin, I ain’t married. Ain’t got no kids or anything, no girl, no nothing. I never got over you” he tells you. “No one was ever as good as you Brad, no one made me feel the way you made me feel” you tell him as he inches dangerously close.
“Well can I give you something to take the edge off, princess?” He asks, eyes meeting yours after fleeting between them to your lips for the past few moments. “Rotgut whiskey's gonna ease my mind” you tell him as he finally leans into close the gap between the both of you, tasting the bitter sweetness on his tongue and the smell of the liquor on his moustache.
You pull away and become acutely aware of how he’s only in his swim shorts and a Hawaiian shirt, as his beach towel rests on the drying line. “Do I remind you of your daddy in my '88 Ford?” He asks as he leans his forehead against yours and you nod, with a jokingly “Labrador hangin' out the passenger door.”
“Why’re you still in North Island, sugar? Still working the Hard Deck?” He questions as he nips your neck with his teeth. You stop him and pull his head from where it was taunting against your sight. You hold his head in your hands as you shake your head with a serious look crossing your face. “Bradley I’m only helping Penny clean up. I’m stationed here for the foreseeable.” You say, as the obvious dawned on him. He hadn’t seen you since that summer before you started college “you’re in the navy?” He asked “aviator.” You replied and he grinned to pick you up and sling you over his shoulder as you yelp with surprise.
“Bradley! What are you doing?” You ask with a breathless laugh. “Got a lot to catch up on, sugar.” He tells you as you approach his Bronco. “How about an all night revival?”

Unholy (1/3)
Summary: Evelyn Brewer is August Walker’s girl, but that doesn’t stop Lloyd Hansen from pursuing her.
Pairings: Lloyd Hansen x OFC, August Walker x OFC
Warnings: 18+, Minors DNI
Status: Complete
Also hosted on AO3
Part 1, Part 2, Part 3
Montecito, California
It was another lonely night for Evelyn. Alone in August's mansion with nothing but bodyguards and security cameras for company, she was left to amuse herself while he was out on a job again. As one of the top government contractors for the CIA, August was consistently in high demand. Luckily her boredom was subdued when her old friend Lloyd Hansen texted her out of the blue.
Lloyd: Hey Toots, I heard Auggie-boy is on a top secret job.
Evelyn: It can’t be so top secret if you know about it.
Lloyd: How about you get on top of me and it’ll be our little secret?
“Typical,” Evelyn scoffed at Lloyd’s most recent text under her breath.
Lloyd always found a way to make things sexual with her. It had been like this since they met years and years ago when her parents had sent her to D.C. to visit her sister Suzanne one summer during high school. Though she had not yet met them, Evelyn had long since become familiar with the names of two of her sister’s closest friends since their Harvard days– Denny Carmichael and Lloyd Hansen. Sharply intelligent and keenly ambitious, the three of them had been recruited into the ranks of the CIA.
It was when Suzanne wasn’t looking that Denny introduced Lloyd to Evelyn. Much to Suzanne’s displeasure and Denny’s entertainment, Lloyd immediately struck up a regular flirtationship of sorts with a then-teenaged Evelyn. His attention usually left her in a confused and flustered state. With his superficial charm, the attention he lavished upon her each time they met, and the fact that he was disgustingly good-looking, she was hard-pressed to return home to her parents at the end of her visit to D.C. without nursing a crush on Lloyd. It was clear to her and everyone else that Lloyd only flirted with her to get a rise out of Suzanne but as Evelyn got older and she learned how to flirt back, it became their twisted version of banter. All the while she kept her crush a secret from Suzanne, from Lloyd, from everyone.
Their little flirtationship was a game, a dance they had perfected over the years. They’d whisper dirty jokes to each other in quiet corners of parties just to get each other all hot and bothered without removing a stitch of clothing and usually without even a sensual touch. It was exciting and intoxicating to go back and forth with each other, like playing a game of cat and mouse except they only found out who was the cat and who was the mouse at the end of each round based on who came off worse after all the teasing.
*~*~*~*~*
Suzanne was annoyed. Lloyd had weaseled an invitation from her parents to a party being thrown at their home in Evelyn’s honor. Her precious baby sister had just graduated high school and was set to attend Stanford in the fall. Ever uptight and type A, Suzanne’s insistence that Lloyd was perving on young Evelyn fell on the deaf ears of her parents. They had met their older daughter’s friend turned colleague before. Dazzled by his eloquence and elegance, they completely missed the devious undertones of his manner.
“Oh Suze, honey, he’s just proud to see Evelyn growing up. We all are,” her mother said exasperatedly.
“Perhaps he’s here to see you,” teased her father.
Upstairs Evelyn preened before a full-length mirror in her bedroom. She could hear the growing rumble of voices coming from below as guests arrived. Her teenaged heart thumped away in her throat as she thought of seeing Lloyd again. He had RSVP’d but he was getting busier and busier at the CIA so she tried not to get her hopes up. Finally satisfied with her appearance, she floated down the stairs in her lilac chiffon dress.
“Oh, Toots, you’re killin’ me.”
Just as she arrived in the cool empty foyer, Lloyd’s bulky figure stepped out from the shadowy threshold of her father’s office. Dressed in a light linen suit with a bright white dress shirt and dark brown loafers, lolling lazily against the dark wooden doorframe, he cut a fine figure. He always did.
Blushing prettily she acknowledged him. “You made it.” She crossed the foyer to join him. “Did you bring me a present?”
“Gimme a twirl first, gorgeous,” he all but purred and she obeyed, the skirt of her dress rising slightly to show off her dance toned legs as she spun around for him. In the years to come, he’d usually greet her in a similar fashion and she’d respond in kind. It was their opening act.
Winking saucily up at him, Evelyn held her hand out expectantly. “Now for my present.”
Lloyd rolled his eyes but still produced an envelope and booped her gently on the nose with it. “Six tickets to see Taylor Swift for you and your little girlfriends. I don’t get the appeal but to each their own.”
Evelyn accepted the envelope gleefully. “You did not! I was joking!”
He allowed her a moment of pure, unadulterated joy before he dropped his voice, making sure no one passing through the foyer might hear him. “Now, why don’t we sneak upstairs and play Barbie and Ken for a bit.”
Evelyn, knowing he wouldn’t give her anything so freely, didn’t miss a beat. “I already masturbated this morning, Lloyd.” She batted wide Bambi eyes up at him. “But don’t worry, I was thinking of you the whole time.”
*~*~*~*~*
Were they keeping score? Kind of not, kind of yeah. Did Evelyn have a mental hall of fame of all the times she had induced Lloyd's hard ons over the years? Oh, absolutely . She particularly loved reminding Lloyd of the time he stained his pants with his own pre-cum while dancing with her at a club in Vegas. Served him right for crashing her spring break a few years back and it wasn’t her fault that he couldn’t control how his dick reacted to her.
Evelyn: Are we ever going to have a conversation that doesn’t include you propositioning me behind my boyfriend's back?
Lloyd: Are you ever going to ditch Auggie-boy for me?
Evelyn sighed at the screen of her phone. Lloyd knew the answer to that question and it was ‘no’. It had been ‘no’ the last dozen or so times he’d asked her over the last two years she’d been exclusively with August. Not that it mattered either way. Lloyd would never actually do anything to her, consensual or not, because he couldn’t risk pissing off Suzanne, especially now that the latter was a high ranking within the CIA’s Directorate of Operations. Suzanne could broadly blackball Hansen Government Services within the CIA if Lloyd pissed her off enough. The one thing Lloyd definitely cared about was his company simply because it was an extension of himself– the only person he cared about. It was the safety in this knowledge that made Evelyn feel bold enough to reply to Lloyd in a way that showed her hand, even just a little.
Evelyn: Maybe, if you didn’t spend so many years being a pussy about me, then I wouldn’t be with August to begin with. Or maybe you’re just all talk and no substance.
She knew better than to put such things in writing but throwing caution to the wind and her phone onto the bed she shared with August, she drifted off to the bathroom for a bubble bath. Lloyd would go radio silent after this exchange. Evelyn was confident he would because the alternative would mean action on his part that was unprecedented in the history of their flirtation– action that she was so fucking curious to experience firsthand.
Lloyd, by reputation, psychological profile and profession, was a different kind of animal and not to be underestimated. And maybe, just maybe, there was something wrong with Evelyn because, on God, those very qualities that made her wet with desire. She knew this insane curiosity was born of her teen years and one she kept to herself because all hell would break loose if she ever admitted to it aloud. Lloyd would know he bested her in their game. Suzanne would lose her shit. August would probably break her neck.
Hours later Lloyd followed up with another text which was unusual for him considering she only heard from him a handful of random times in the course of a year and saw him in person even less frequently.
Lloyd: I'll be in Montecito tomorrow. Let’s have dinner.
Evelyn: Why will you be in Montecito?
Lloyd: To see you for dinner, Toots.
Evelyn: Alright, but no funny business.
Lloyd: I can only promise to be on my worst behavior. Taverna. 7:30 PM. Wear something that’ll look good on the floor.
Evelyn checked where the restaurant was. It wasn’t far from the hiking trail she frequented with her security detail. She inspected the restaurant info more closely. Taverna was located at a ranch-turned-luxury-resort. The choice of a restaurant in the grounds of a hotel was as subtle as a hand grenade. Trust Lloyd to be an utter sleazeball.
*~*~*~*~*
They were attending some sort of criminal underworld auction. Evelyn came as August's date but he was busy networking with current and potential clients. This left her to peruse the auction items on her own just for something to do until Lloyd ultimately sought her out. He always did, even if just for a moment.
Evelyn sensed him before she saw him, stalking up to her from behind. The smell of his signature cologne– Tom Ford Oud Wood– with its spicy sandalwood scent, reached out to her in tantalizing wafts as his shadow engulfed her.
“You and me, let’s get a hotel room and just fuck this sexual tension out of our systems,” Lloyd suggested in a low voice without so much as a greeting.
“That’s considered cheating on my part, seeing as I have a boyfriend,” Evelyn quietly, unruffled at his opening line. She continued her examination of a card bearing details of a fully armored tank that was up for auction without looking at him.
“I won’t tell Auggie-boy if you don’t.”
“You’re such a dirtbag,” Evelyn whispered back to him with a ghost of a giggle. Then she turned around to see him in his sharp black tie affair. She met his burning gaze with her own mischievous cat-like eyes. She stepped toward him and pretended to fix his bow tie to add, “A really hot dirtbag I’d like to fuck if I were a bad girl.”
He smirked down at her, his eyes practically slits. “And if we did fuck, would you let me come inside you?”
Evelyn scoffed, unable to recover as quickly as she usually did.
Lloyd chuckled darkly. “I bet you would and you’d enjoy every drop,” he quipped in a smug, sing-song tone.
*~*~*~*~*
The night following their text exchange, Evelyn dressed in a slinky deep green slip dress that complimented her tan skin and was sure to make Lloyd suffer. To be clear, she didn't dress for his pleasure, but rather for the thrill she got when she made him hard without giving him any sort of real carnal pleasure.
Knowing that the security cameras all over the interior and exterior of the house would show her going out for the evening, Evelyn texted August earlier in the day that she was meeting a friend for dinner and would be out late. He hadn’t replied to that text all day which left Evelyn to assume that he was still working. She left her bodyguards at home because it was a known fact that no one in Montecito would dare harm the girl who belonged to August Walker.
Ever punctual, she arrived at Tarverna in her chauffeured car five minutes before the appointed time. She found Lloyd at the bar looking dapper in all black, down to his loafers.
“My favorite girl,” he greeted as he took her hand and gave her a twirl. She simpered for him like a beauty contestant as she always did. “You look good enough to eat, Toots.”
“You’d be so lucky if you did.”
Lloyd inclined his head towards her, a sinful leer playing on his lips. “Let's go, I got us a private room in the back,” he led her by the hand past the bar to a private dining room just for the two of them.
*~*~*~*~*
“You know I’m only joking. I don’t actually want you to leave him,” Lloyd said halfway through dinner. “I just wanna hear you moan my name.” He was bargaining with her again, trying to make his ask seem as innocent as could be.
“Oh, that’s it, is it?”
“Yeah, I’m staying in a bungalow here tonight. We can go back there. I’ll fuck your brains out while you moan my name. We’ll be done in like an hour or two.”
Evelyn closed her eyes. She tipped her head back slightly and began to moan. “Oh, God, Lloyd… Fuck… oh fuck me Lloyd … Ohh Lloyd yes!” Her eyes flicked open to see Lloyd looking like he wanted to leap across the table and take her right then. She arched an eyebrow at him. “There you go. And it only took like two seconds.” She went back to primly eating her food as if she didn’t just make Lloyd’s cock twitch with a few well-expressed words.
Lloyd grimaced and shifted in his seat, trying to ignore his building arousal. “Come on, just for one night. Be a bad girl for me.”
“Even if I can tell you that you have some decent dick in your pants,” Evelyn admitted. “You are trouble and I’m with August. Who, by the way, would probably lay your ass out if he found out what you’ve been proposing.”
“I’d lay his ass out if it meant you’d lay that ass on me. Besides, if actually gave a shit about you, he wouldn't leave you alone in that house all the damn time.”
“Like you care what August gives a shit about,” Evelyn replied sarcastically. “Anyway, that's how this works. Very important men like August need arm candy like me to sit pretty at home and worry about how to get blood stains out of his clothes.”
Lloyd shook his head as if she disappointed him. “You're smarter than this,Toots. I don't know why you're with him when you could be doing anything or anyone else.”
“Maybe I like the life of leisure he gives me,” she said with a nonchalant shrug. “A black AmEx does wonders for time apart.”
Evelyn had always been materialistic and she wasn’t ashamed to admit it. Spoiled and pampered since childhood by her parents, dear sister Suzanne, and eventually August, it wasn’t really a surprise that she turned out this way.
Dessert arrived and Evelyn continued to be the perfect cock tease in answer to Lloyd’s lewd overtures. She even managed to dribble some of the vanilla crème anglaise from her souffle onto her chin before sweeping it away with a finger and popping said finger into her mouth to suck on it absentmindedly.
“Well, this has been fun, Lloyd. Thanks for dinner. Let’s do this again soon,” Evelyn said nonchalantly. She rose from her seat and left Lloyd to settle the bill and his hard on thanks to her. They may not be officially keeping score in this tense game of theirs but Evelyn was sure she won that round.
She sauntered out of the restaurant and was on the cusp of calling her chauffeur to pick her up when Lloyd finally caught up to her.
“Your chauffeur isn’t coming,” Lloyd informed her. He slipped a well-muscled arm around her waist, drawing her close to him so that she collided with his chest. She hadn’t planned that he’d be so physical with her. It wasn’t part of their game… usually.
“Let me guess, you shot my driver?” she asked cooly, as if she was unaffected by the fact that she could feel his dick through the fabric of their clothing.
Lloyd pulled a face and waggled a pedantic finger at her. “ Technically one of my men shot him. He's fine, just out cold from blood loss. I can give you a ride back to your place after we fuck.” He began to guide her down a footpath that led towards the bungalows, away from the front of the resort where Evelyn needed to be. She didn’t resist. She couldn’t show him that she was nervous to go to his bungalow with him. They’d been alone plenty of times over the years but going back to a hotel room with him was new territory. Fine, if he wanted blue balls for this next round, she could arrange that.
“Well, someone will have to explain to August why my driver was injured on the job and why you, of all people, are dropping me off. You know he only tolerates you for business purposes.”
“I’d be happy– so fuckin’ happy – to explain it to him if you don’t mind me divulging to him that you were having dinner with me and not one of your little girlfriends.” Being too near to him, feeling his body against hers through the thin material of her dress, made her head foggy with desire. She needed to put plenty of space between them pronto but she couldn’t be obvious about it because it would mean that he’d gotten to her and he’d win this round. And Lloyd was insufferable when he gloated.
Evelyn halted their progress, leaned back in his hold just enough to cross her arms over her chest and looked up at him with a pout. “Really, Lloyd, coercion and blackmail? Boring. You can do better than that.” She tweaked his mustache and used her weight and a little backwards momentum to pull away. If Lloyd had indeed ordered for her driver to be shot she needed to Uber home. It was in everyone's best interest that Lloyd stay far away from the house.
Lloyd reeled her back in with his arm before she could get too far. In a moment, her back was flush against him, there was no avoiding the fact that she could feel him grinding his dick against the small of her back or the heat of his breath along her neck as he spoke again.
“If we don’t fuck, we’ll always wonder. If we do, it’ll be done and we won’t wonder anymore. And I promise I won’t ask you to be a bad girl for me again.”
She had never heard such a precarious deal in her life. But her curiosity to see if there was any action behind all these years of innuendo and fruitless flirting was making vast inroads with her ability to see reason. Evelyn took her time in answering him. She weighed the risk.
August probably wouldn't find out because she could keep a secret and he hardly paid any attention to her these days. For Lloyd it'd be in his best interest to keep quiet about it if she did sleep with him. The two men ran in all the same circles as they were both shadowy government contractors (read: ridiculously over-compensated hired guns). Neither man could risk more than a fist fight and a bruised ego over her and they all knew it. It was indeed a precarious deal though not so precarious that she thought she couldn't worm her way out of it at the last minute.
Fine, she'd go toe to toe with Lloyd and once she had him begging like a starving dog… she’d lord that victory over him with zealous pride and add it to her hall of fame.
Wordlessly, she turned in his arms and ground her hips into him. Pressed up against his well built chest, she snaked a hand between their bodies and palmed his impressive length through his slacks. “Alright, let’s see if these moves fuck.”

Mr. R. T. Englund and

The R.T. Englund Company
P.O. Box 517
Salinas, California
Gentlemen:
Pursuant to paragraph a) (4) of Article 30 of the Migrant Labor Agreement of 1951, as amended, a statement of alleged violations was transmitted to you under date of October 11, 1962 alleging, among other violations of the Agreement and the Standard Work Contract, there was a violation of Article 19 of the Standard Work Contract through the maintenance of inaccurate and inadequate records of employment of Mexican Nationals in lettuce harvest activity in that such records showed in at least seventeen instances a greater number of hours worked than is in fact were worked by such Mexican National workers. The response of the R.T Englund Company, transmitted on November 29, 1962 by George C. Lyon of the law firm of Moss, Lyon and Dunn, attempts to explain the seventeen instances of alleged discrepancies between the time of arrival of the last loaded lettuce truck at the cooler and the indicated final employment of the crew in the field by the practice of your company in utilizing the crew after the lettuce was picked in picking up leaves from furrows and placing them on top of the lettuce bed, The affidavit of R.T. Englund submitted with your response includes sworn testimony that such picking up of leaves takes anywhere from fifteen minutes on up to three hours."
[page 2]
The response of the company with respect to the picking up of leaves as an explanation of the field slips covering the employment of Mexican National workers in the lettuce harvest requires a consideration of whether or not this alleged activity may itself constitute a violation of Article 4 of the Standard Work Contract and Article 19 of the Migrant Labor Agreement is that such activity may have been performed without any compensation being provided therefor. The existing Article 30 proceeding initiated through the Article 30 a) (4) letter of October 11, 1962, described above, is therefore suspended until a response is given by you to the allegations of indicated violations concerning the picking up of leaves following completion of the loading activity in the field. Your response should be directed to the following specific points:
1. Describe with particularity the different occasions when leaf picking activity occurred after the final loaded truck left the field for the cooler. Specify the particular dates when this activity occurred.
2. Particularize as to the amount of time required for the leaf-picking activity on each of the days when the activity occurred.
3. Identify the number of members of the crew engaged in this activity, with particular explanation of whether such activity was performed by Mexican National workers only or both Mexican National workers and domestic workers comprising Crew No. 1.
4. Give further explanation as to the specific authorization of the leaf-picking activity under the DE-3401 authorization issued by the California Department of Employment local offices at El Centro, California.
The evidence now available to me indicates that the leaf-picking activity,
[page 3]
when performed after the final packing and loading activities of the crew have been performed for the day, is not considered as a part of the lettuce harvest authorized activity included in the lettuce ground harvest activity described in the Form ES-366 as "lettuce, cut, trim, pack, spread cartons, spray, pad, close, carry and windrow" or "lettuce, load, stack." The requirement that such work be performed by the harvest crew, with the compensation therefor to be included within the piece rate of twenty-four cents per carton for the authorized lettuce harvest activity, would therefore constitute a violation of Article 4 of the Standard Work Contract and Article 10 of the Migrant Labor Agreement.
You have ten days from the data of receipt of this supplemental notice to respond to the allegation set forth in this letter,. Please direct your response to the undersigned.
Sincerely yours,
John Murray
Representative of the Secretary of Labor

Report Forecasts US Healthcare Worker Shortage Will Continue to 2028
According to a report by Mercer, the United States is facing a shortage of healthcare staff that may persist until 2028. However, some states will have severe shortages while others grapple with staff surpluses.
The Mercer report titled “Future of the US Healthcare Industry: Labor Market Projections by 2028” where Mercer developed the report after extensive research on the state of US healthcare workers. The company employed a team of researchers to analyze publicly available data on healthcare workers’ supply and demand. The team then compared the current numbers with historical data leading up to 2023 before making projections for 2028.
Mercer projects a shortage of 100,000 healthcare workers by 2028, which will complicate existing shortfalls in healthcare access in the country.
New York will experience the most acute healthcare worker shortage, with 61,473 workers. New Jersey is second, with a projected shortage of 17,769 people. The top five are Tennessee, with a shortage of 16,719; Massachusetts, with a shortage of 12,329; and Georgia, with a shortage of 11,308.
Some healthcare workers will be in shorter supply than others. For example, nursing assistants will have the highest deficit among healthcare workers. Mercer projects a deficit of more than 73,000 nursing assistants in the country by 2028. States such as California, Texas, and New York will have sharp deficits of 14,000, 12,000, and 11,000 workers, respectively.
For physicians, the country will have a modest surplus of them. However, some states will have a significant shortage. For example, California will have a shortage of more than 2,500 primary care physicians by 2028.
Other healthcare workers in oversupply include registered nurses and home health and personal care aides. Mercer projects that the country will have an oversupply of 30,000 registered nurses by 2028, and the oversupply for home health and personal care aides may reach 48,000.
Several reasons exist for the overall shortage of healthcare workers. They include accelerated resignations following the COVID-19 pandemic, an aging workforce, and healthcare wages lagging behind the general labor market.
Left unchecked, healthcare worker shortages will exacerbate issues resulting from limited access to healthcare. As such, the federal and state governments should work together to identify viable solutions to the crisis.
Healthcare organizations should also address shortages. They must start by understanding their worker supply risks in all locations and departments. Where is the shortage so severe that it will affect healthcare quality?
Once they know where the shortage is most severe, they can take steps to mitigate it. For example, they can partner with local medical institutions to train and recruit workers in those fields. Next, they can collaborate with staffing solutions providers to strengthen their healthcare worker supply pipeline. This way, they will always have a pool of applicants to tap into whenever vacancies arise.
Healthcare organizations should also do more to retain their existing talent. If an organization has a high turnover in certain locations or departments, it can investigate the cause and rectify the situation. Suppose the problem is much broader, affecting the entire healthcare organization. In that case, leadership should improve its value proposition to employees by increasing compensation and benefits or creating more flexible work schedules for existing employees so they have a better work-life balance.
Organizations could also leverage technology to lower demand for tough-to-fill positions, automate tasks, and eliminate others.

The Future of HRMS: Trends to Watch in HR Technology
1. Introduction to HRMS and HR Technology
Human Resource Management Systems (HRMS) have become an integral part of modern business operations. These systems are designed to streamline HR processes, manage employee data, and improve overall organizational efficiency. As the business landscape evolves, so does the technology that supports HR functions. HRMS, which once started as basic payroll management tools, have now transformed into sophisticated platforms that encompass various HR functions, including recruitment, employee engagement, and performance management.
The importance of HR technology in today's businesses cannot be overstated. It is the backbone that supports the efficient management of human capital, enabling companies to remain competitive in a rapidly changing market. With advancements in technology, HRMS solutions are becoming more robust, offering enhanced features and capabilities that address the complex needs of modern organizations.
2. The Role of HRMS in Modern HR Practices
HRMS plays a crucial role in modern HR practices by streamlining various processes, enhancing employee experiences, and supporting data-driven decision-making. By automating routine HR tasks, HRMS frees up HR professionals to focus on strategic initiatives that drive business growth.
One of the key benefits of HRMS is its ability to enhance employee experience. With features like self-service portals, employees can easily access their information, submit requests, and receive timely responses. This not only improves efficiency but also boosts employee satisfaction and engagement.
Moreover, HRMS supports data-driven decision-making by providing HR professionals with access to real-time data and analytics. This enables them to make informed decisions about workforce planning, talent management, and employee development.
3. Cloud-Based HRMS: The Shift to SaaS
The shift to cloud-based HRMS, often referred to as Software as a Service (SaaS), is one of the most significant trends in HR technology. Cloud-based HRMS solutions offer numerous benefits, including cost savings, scalability, and ease of use. They eliminate the need for on-premise infrastructure, reducing the burden on IT departments and allowing businesses to focus on their core competencies.
SaaS adoption in HR technology is growing rapidly as more organizations recognize the advantages of cloud-based solutions. These platforms are accessible from anywhere, making them ideal for remote and hybrid work environments. Additionally, they offer enhanced security features and ensure compliance with data protection regulations, which is crucial in today's data-driven world.
However, the shift to cloud-based HRMS also comes with challenges, particularly in terms of security and compliance. Organizations must ensure that their chosen HRMS provider adheres to the highest security standards and complies with relevant regulations such as the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA).
4. AI and Machine Learning in HRMS
Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning are revolutionizing HRMS by introducing advanced capabilities that were previously unimaginable. AI-powered recruitment tools, for instance, can analyze resumes, conduct initial screenings, and even schedule interviews, significantly reducing the time and effort required in the hiring process.
Predictive analytics, driven by AI, is another area where HRMS is making a significant impact. By analyzing historical data, predictive analytics can forecast future trends, such as employee turnover, and help HR professionals make proactive decisions to retain top talent.
Moreover, AI is enabling personalized employee experiences through the use of chatbots and virtual assistants. These tools can provide employees with instant responses to their queries, guide them through complex processes, and offer personalized recommendations for career development.
5. Automation in HR Processes
Automation is a key trend in HR technology, with HRMS systems increasingly incorporating automation features to streamline routine tasks. From automating payroll processing to managing employee onboarding, automation reduces the administrative burden on HR teams and allows them to focus on more strategic activities.
Workflow automation is another area where HRMS is making significant strides. By automating workflows, HR departments can ensure that tasks are completed efficiently and on time, reducing the risk of errors and improving overall productivity. For example, automated workflows can handle tasks such as approval processes for leave requests, performance evaluations, and expense reimbursements.
The role of bots and AI assistants in HR is also expanding. These tools can handle tasks such as answering common employee questions, scheduling meetings, and sending reminders, further enhancing the efficiency of HR operations.
6. Employee Self-Service Portals
Employee self-service portals are becoming a standard feature in modern HRMS, empowering employees to take control of their HR-related tasks. These portals allow employees to access their personal information, view payslips, update contact details, and submit leave requests without needing to go through HR personnel.
Self-service analytics and reporting are also gaining traction. With access to data and reports, employees can gain insights into their performance, track their career progress, and make informed decisions about their development. This not only enhances transparency but also fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
By providing employees with the tools they need to manage their own HR tasks, self-service portals help to increase engagement and reduce the administrative workload on HR teams
Conclusion:
Embracing the Future of HR Technology
As HR technology continues to evolve, the future of HRMS holds exciting possibilities for organizations willing to embrace innovation. From cloud-based solutions and AI-driven processes to enhanced data security and employee-centric tools, the trends shaping HRMS are not just about improving efficiency—they’re about redefining how businesses manage and support their most valuable asset: their people.
To stay competitive in this rapidly changing landscape, businesses must invest in future-ready HRMS that are flexible, scalable, and capable of integrating emerging technologies. By doing so, they will not only streamline their HR processes but also create a more engaged, satisfied, and productive workforce.
The strategic role of HRMS in driving business success cannot be overstated. As we look ahead, it's clear that those organizations that adapt to these trends will be well-positioned to thrive in the future of work
