I kinda prefer that Kieran isn’t being mind controlled, actually.
it means that all his actions and decisions are purely human and allows for a lot deeper analysis of his character. You have to actually question his arc and why it happens instead of just going “yea he was possessed that’s why”

there’s only so much you can do with three personality traits before you have to start making your own
ive been seeing so many posts about people being confused by calf1sh and its so funny cause its like. the splatoon community really is just a bunch of people split up into sections that dont understand how or why the other parts do their thing huh

Sidelines
I fear that once the dust has settled, I will only be able to observe love as if watching it through a window. My friends will up and leave - journey on, marry. I will shed tears of joy on these poignant milestones but they shan’t be for me.
I can only hope to mirror their gumption for life. If I break the mould I use to contain myself within, I’ll be met with disgust and dismay.
I cannot love another; they will see my complexities and usher themselves to an easier path. I can’t blame them. I would do the same if I wasn’t shackled to the curse that follows with this surname. How does one prove they aren’t rotten when they are birthed from it?
I am sewn from morally corrupt cloth. Who wants to devote their time to such a wretched creature? I am not rotten. I promise. But how can they tell and who would dare take such a risk?

// minor spoilers for the scarvio epilogue dlc!!
okay, so Penny is actually Peony’s daughter??
this was theorized for a while bc they’re both from Galar, named after peonies, and Penny says her dad is super loud and gives her “stupid” nicknames. But it just got confirmed when she tells her dad not to call the trip to Kitakami an “Adven-tour”. That’s Peony everybody
This also means that by extension, Peonia is her sister and Rose is her uncle
Now, Peonia is probably around 15-16 in the Crown Tundra and scarvio take place around a year or two after swsh. Penny is likely around 15 in scarvio so therefore, Peonia is probably abt two years older than Penny (she DEFINITELY helped Penny dye her hair for the first time)
This also means Penny is related to (to an extent) Bede so this makes an Ortega and Bede fight actually plausible,,, don’t want to think about how that would go
We can assume Penny’s natural hair color is blonde or black, but I kinda prefer black bc otherwise she looks nothing like her father
But I’m gonna chock that up to genes being unpredictable, even though in Pokémon relatives are usually super obvious
Imagine Penny coming home after Operation Star and, not really wanting to talk about what she’s been doing, asks her family what’s been going on, and Peonia immediately goes “Uncle Rose got arrested for summoning the Darkest Day”

why ocho is one of the most interesting coroika characters (analysis/speculation)
Ok, so I think we all know that coroika isn’t exactly known for its incredible character writing. But every now and then when digging for iron and coal, you find some diamond ore (epic minecraft reference). I do really think Ocho/Octophones is the most compelling character in coroika, story-wise. Vintage is definitely second, but there’s something about this guy. So allow me a few minutes of your time to think way too hard about all this. I've never done an essay-style post like this before so it may be a little disorganized/confusing, sorry in advance.
When we first meet Ocho, he’s your typical coroika antagonist. Rude, cocky, and entirely sure that he’s right. He presents the actually interesting concept that battles are boring and that there should be a bigger punishment for losing in order to weed out the weak people. He thinks that the best 8 of splatsville should be based on power, not popularity. (Which is fair!)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He stays pretty static up until his vs. chapters, aside from a small moment of expressing remorse after black-labelling 8-Bit (likely because he knows how much pride she has in her position).
Ocho wants power, simple as that, and he’ll do whatever it takes to get it, including hiring teammates instead of building an actual team. The reason he wants power so bad is because the real thing he wants is to be strong - or to believe that he’s strong. This is, of course, because according to the  Hierarchy, the important people in Splatsville are the strong ones. So in order to be worth anything to the Hierarchy - to Splatsville - he needs to be strong.
So what happens when he gets defeated? What happens when the core foundation: being able to win battles, of all that pride in himself and his position gets toppled? Probably more than what actually did happen.
Wineglasses and how he may have severely fucked up Ocho's mindset
Wireglasses is the leader and the founder of the Hierarchy, and presumably the one who first presented their philosophy. (That the strong stay strong and the weak stay weak, and that thus the weak are worthless.) Of course, keep in mind that "strong" and "weak" are largely subjective terms here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ Goggles hits the nail on the head here. This idea likely comes from a place of insecurity, the idea that Wireglasses may lose his position as the strongest player in Splatsville. Duh, he doesn’t want that, so he spreads the idea that people shouldn’t even try. But Wireglasses is willing to hear Team Blue out, if even just to prove them wrong. After he’s defeated, he does as he promised. He dissolves the Hierarchy, because Team Blue proved their worth to him. They seemed like a weak team, but they did manage to take them all down. So, Team Blue must be strong. (I believe that Ocho takes the loss not as Team Blue are strong, but that the Hierarchy are weak.)
So all things considered, Wireglasses is actually quite reasonable. He’s got a big ego, but he’s able to recognize when he’s wrong, if he’s been proven so.
Ocho joined the Hierarchy after being defeated by Wireglasses, who despite the win, admired his skill and asked him to join (where he later gained the position of the second strongest member.) Essentially, Wireglasses gave him the opportunity to have a sense of actual worth in Splatsville, not just superficial popularity, and he clung onto that idea for dear life and went on preaching about the Hierarchy. He even echoes Wireglasses’ rule of “The weak will be silenced.” As their leader, it isn't too farfetched to at least partially blame Wire for why Ocho and the others act the way they do. This isn't meant to be a Wireglasses analysis, though, so whether or not this was intentional or malicious manipulation is up to you.
Tumblr media
The defeat
Tumblr media
So when Ocho gets defeated, it kinda screws him over. He’s so sure of this idea Wireglasses presented to him, that taking down the weak to stay on top by any means necessary is the true meaning of strength, that he doesn’t even turn around immediately and become a friend to Team Blue like many other coroika antagonists do. He instead relies on the last remaining sign that this philosophy isnt flawed (and just as senseless as a system based on popularity), Wireglasses. This is shown with his immediate shift in focus to how Wireglasses will keep the black label going, even if he’s defeated. Okay, maybe he got taken down, but surely Wireglasses, the strongest guy he knows won’t, right?
But Wireglasses doesn’t just lose, he loses and ends up agreeing with Team Blue, then dissolving the hierarchy. And we don’t see much of Ocho after this happens, but he keeps the same straight face he had all throughout Wireglasses’ battle and up until the Salmon Run chapter (likely some time later) didn't say a word since his defeat. This combined with how much reliance he had on his position, shown by his insistence of how strength worked to the point of losing his usual cool during his battle, gives me a good idea that he wasn’t exactly stoked about this. Plus, he’s still a jerk during the salmon run chapter, which is a rare occurrence for coroika antagonists. But he seems to be getting a little better, so maybe he’s learning his lesson after Wireglasses sided with Team Blue.
Tumblr media
Conclusion
Tumblr media
Ocho is a guy who wants a sense of importance past just popularity, which is a respectable motivation. But after Wireglasses gives him a sample of that, the proposal of the Hierarchy, he gets way too caught up in it to the point where he needs more than three panels to turn around. And that, my friends, is why I believe Ocho is the most interesting coroika character. (with a whole lotta angst potential...looking at you, fanfic writers!)
Thank you and good night :>

playing the epilogue and wow Arven is way shorter than I thought he was. He’s the same height as if not shorter than Nemona, and he’s definitely shorter than Carmine. I guess I’m just used to him being portrayed as really tall in fandom

What if Paul is Acht’s younger brother who grew up following Acht and Marina around and then they left for the army, Marina disappeared and Acht became more distant and eventually got sanitized so Paul started to make his own music using things he’d picked up from his sibling and their friend. And then he leaves for the surface after Acht blips off the radar because he learned Marina went there so what if Acht was there too and he spends years tirelessly searching for them (even joining a band along the way) but never finds them so eventually gives up and then Acht gets their memories and free will back after Side Order and Marina, who was the only person Paul rlly had to lean on about Acht during this time, reminds them of their brother and they finally get reunited.
….what if that’s why acht and paul have the same symbol on their hat and a reason why paul knows Marina? :]

It’s almost time for Mochi Mayhem and I want to see Kieran and Penny become friends who bond over their introversion and similar experiences (obsessions with certain Pokémon, older sisters, and of course their struggles socially) and then when the others are all talking while Arven helps the siblings’ grandparents make dinner, Penny is sitting on the couch playing fnaf on her phone and Kieran is beside her watching through his fingers
Penny should also introduce him to Sonic and accidentally cause Carmine to have to hear I Am All of Me played at full blast from Kieran’s room every night…at least he’s letting out his emotions?

can you do a deep Namida analysis? you can include personal hcs i need her i need h < wants namida lore so bad orz
Tumblr media
Namida. Naminami. Master Namida. Mida-Chan. The Girl From Planet Namik.
I’m much more of a headcanons guy than an analysis guy, so this will probably be more “headcanons slightly based on analysis” than the other way around, sorry 😵‍💫 (however, a little while ago fishhjuice did a compiling of all the canon namida facts)
Namida likes to present herself as the most orderly and put-together member of Squid Squad, but in actuality she’s probably the strangest one. She can be quiet around strangers, but once you get her talking you’ll never get her to stop. She knows all sorts of seemingly useless facts that somehow always manage to come in handy. She has insane spice tolerance and usually finds herself adding copious amounts of hot sauce to foods she thinks are too mellow. She likes photography and art, sometimes doodling her friends in her free time. Her lack of a complete eyemask is a mutation that she used to touch up with makeup, but later abandoned it after it started to become integral to her image. She’s willing to sing but is a bit embarrassed to, as she isn’t sure her singing voice is all that good.
Namida grew up fairly wealthy and her parents fostered her love for music at a young age, sending her to a music school where she learned piano and picked up some jazz theory. Later, she began to grow bored with the prim and proper lifestyle, and was the first member to join Squid Squad after becoming fast friends with Ichiya.
Namida is the emotional core of Squid Squad. Shes the best at talking to people and has a way with words that make it impossible to stay mad at her (even if she just did something that definitely warrants it). She’s also the most affectionate member and is responsible for the most group hugs.
Out of all her bandmates, Namida is closest with Ichiya. She was the first person he met after moving to Inkopolis, and he was pretty much the first really close friend she ever had. However, this closeness meant that during the final weeks of Sqdsqd’s lifespan, she tended to brush off how much of an ass Ichiya was being out of fear of damaging the band further. This did not turn out to be the right decision and she went on to feel a little guilty about it, wishing she could have done more. She puts up with a lot of his shit, but is willing to give him another chance come Front Roe. She’s a little worried about it all, but she has hope that it will work out. (go read my fic for more on that 😋😋😋) (shameless plug)
Namida and Murasaki are partners in crime, two chaotic-good bundles of energy. They’re pretty much the only duo who never had any ill will towards one another. The majority of Namida’s nicknames were coined by Murasaki. They lost contact with each other after the breakup but happily reunited later down the line. In Front Roe, Nami wishes that Murasaki wouldn’t be so dismissive of Ichiya nowadays, because that definitely isn’t going to fix anything. Wow, finally a pair that isn’t that complicated!
Namida always respected Ikkan for his musical prowess and considered him the funniest (even though he cracked jokes the least often). They would end up sharing the quietest moments together, making easy small talk and sometimes exchanging personal musings they wouldn’t share with the others. However, even Namida had concerns that some of his criticisms of the band were a bit too harsh, but they were all in good faith, right? So it wasn’t a big deal, right? She misses having someone to talk to where she didn’t feel a need to be the bigger person.
that’s all I’ve got for Namida! I really don’t draw her enough for how fun she is to draw. Thanks for the ask!!

In splatoon 1 ikkan and ichiya both wear clothes with green but with contrasting backgrounds, white and black. By 3 they’ve both switched to gray shirts with red designs (gray is in the middle of black and white, and red is the opposite of green)
this was probably not an intentional thing but it’s fun to give something meaningless meaning yknow. Or at least fun to think about

I think it would be neat if coroika fans played into army’s energy more
I often see him portrayed nowadays as kind of a cautious, slightly quiet skeptic trying his best to hold the s5 together and although there is definitely credibility to that interpretation, I’d rlly like to see more takes on Army that include his energy! He’s loud! He’s passionate! He’s smart but also kind of stupid!
