We are leaning hard into the 80's here! None of that trying to modernize StEx they've been doing since the 90's. It doesn't work, and the hyper-80's...ness is one of the best things about StEx!

This is about 60% the 1984 original, so keep that in mind.

Dinah & Greaseball look most like the original Dinah and Greaseball. (Though Dinah's hair looks like this. I'll get to her costumes below.) Greaseball looks completely like Jeff Shankley's GB.

Most of the costumes look like the Broadway versions.

However, Pearl gets 3 costumes; her pants outfit from the '84 previews (but with white pants), followed by her sleek Broadway dress outfit (w/ Electra), and then the fluffy dress outfit (w/ GB).

Dinah has 2 costumes; the first one being more Broadway (but I dislike the leggings, so different ones), and then, when she pairs with Electra, she changes to an outfit that is similar to her OG outfit.

C.B.'s look is very similar to the original, except his pants are black, and he has his later hat.

Dinah & Greaseball banter a bit because "Incapable of feeding yourself, Greaseball?" Ohhh *chef's kiss* 2017 London Workshop did something right!

*Dinah & Greaseball get a couple's duet. It's a fun, cute, rock/80's pop mix song that touches on their love for each other and how they don't care about others' bullshit. ("Our Lips Are Sealed" kind of vibes, I suppose.)

Ashley and Duvay are sisters.

Greaseball pulls the girls during "Freight," like he originally did.

*Dinah gets a solo after "Pumping Iron" after the Sleepers talk their bullshit. It'd be about 3½ minutes long. If you've read my Dinah rants, you can get an idea of what it's about.

Greaseball, Bobo, and Espresso are part of the choreography during "Crazy" toward the end, racing around with Dinah, Ashley, and Buffy. (I promise this is FIRE in my head. Have faith. 🥺)

Cruel Intentions vs. Do Revenge

I never shit on any new movie I disapprove of because I think that’s what frustrated old men and failed filmmakers-turned filmcritics do. I also think it’s disrespectful to all involved artists – cast and crew - to rate a film’s value with however many stars out of ten as a film is after all ART and its entertainment or artistic value is therefore highly subjective. However, I’ll have to make an exception for Do Revenge (2022) as it pays homage to Cruel Intentions (1999) and it’s a good occasion to compare the state of teen entertainment of 1999 and 2022.

Let’s get budget, star power, and directors out of the way first: If we consider inflation, we can estimate a budget of $18.5 million for the creation of Cruel Intentions and an estimated budget of $25 million for Do Revenge which makes the pair very comparable. When it comes to star power, Sarah Michelle Gellar was already famous as the main protagonist in the Buffy (1997) tv show before she appeared in Cruel Intentions and Ryan Phillippe had his break with I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997). I admit that I have never heard about any of the talent in Do Revenge prior to this film but I guess that’s my own fault. Considering the tsunami of shows on all these streaming platforms, I don’t think I can be blamed. I’m saying that Sarah and Ryan were iconic actors already and Mendes, Hawke, and Abrams are not (I’m sorry). I appreciate that Sarah Michelle Gellar has a minor role in Do Revenge as well and consider her as an asset for this Netflix film. Considering the looks and theme of the Do Revenge, it was always meant to be a Netflix film and seasoned writer/director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson did a good job fitting it into their current portfolio. Cruel Intentions started as a passion project by first-time director Roger Kumble with very little money and was then picked up by Columbia.

Now we get to the entertainment value: Do Revenge has good production value in terms of costume, locations, and other eye-candy. Cruel Intentions had these assets too – the difference is that Kumble staged them masterfully. I’d argue that Theo van de Sande’s magnificent cinematography in Cruel Intentions can’t even be compared to the very standard work of Brian Burgoyne in Do Revenge. The reason for that is that Theo and Roger were inspired by Bertolucci films like the Conformist (1970) which made the simplest scenes a joy fest for the viewer’s eyes. The style of cinematography in Do Revenge was not inspired by an old Italian master but by the brand image of Netflix and maybe – only maybe - by Cruel Intentions – it left no impression on me. Do Revenge has good acting and good direction, but the dialog is often “on the nose” and cliché. The plot twists and the duality of its characters are enjoyable, but this is overshadowed by a general lack of originality. I find the character’s omnipresent strive to publicly expose their counterparts annoying and meaningless. It’s like publicly showing Sebastian Valmont’s diary– but not as dramatic (where’s the soundtrack, where are the cool montages?) and very repetitive. Somehow, I find Drea’s Yale ambitions not very believable – just like Rosehill’s crazy graduate party/orgy that is supposed to be attended by ivy league material exclusively. Aren’t these people supposed to be smart, eloquent, and have some academic ambition? Sebastian Valmont and Kathryn Merteuil were deliciously evil when they had to be and wickedly smart and charming when we wanted them to be just that. The characters in Do Revenge are written without much depth because they are always the same: ditzy and politically correct – even when they’re making fun of wokeness. Seriously, imagine any of Do Revenge’s main characters (rich ivy league candidates) using a pocket watch, journalling regularly or being a real book worm – it doesn’t work. There is no serious ambition, sophistication, or enjoyable dark academia trait to be seen in these shallow personalities. If you’re going to adapt and pay homage, why not use the cool stuff?

Do Revenge’s sexy scenes unfortunately won’t stun its audience with iconic locations, scandalous dirty talk, or explosive chemistry like Cruel Intentions. They are watered down and uninspired. This brings me to my next point: Nobody would be able to distribute a film like Cruel intentions nowadays. It’s dialogue is too hardcore and unapologetic for the teens of now and for the woke streaming platforms who love their virtue signaling. That is also why it’s impossible to portrait any of Do Revenge’s characters as iconic as the celebrated and often copied protagonists of Cruel Intentions – they had an edge and they made their props and their rooms work for them. It is my understanding that is forbidden and not marketable to have a teen movie with edgy characters like that, who have class and have become style icons. If Sebastian Valmont was alive in the universe of Do Revenge, he would be the character who can’t be found on Instagram or tik tok – he’d tell you that “that’s for geeks and pedophiles.”

Do Revenge had everything going for it but it doesn’t work at all and that makes me sad.

Trick...and treat her well (Pedri x Reader) / Halloween '23

After another long day at uni, you just wanted to go home and sleep. Thankfully, the following day was a bank holiday, so you knew you could just sleep in and sort of do nothing all day. But your boyfriend had other plans. Plans that interrupted your own plans.

“What are you doing in bed? Come on! Let’s get ready”, said Pedri, in a too loud voice, when he got to the room. You usually liked how hyper and excited he got by the smallest of things but not at that exact moment.

“Ready for what?”

“It’s Halloween!”

“Pedro, we live in Spain, not America. No one cares about Halloween around here”, you rolled your eyes and laid back down in bed.

“But we talked about going to that party…do you not want to go? I bought us the costumes and everything”.

It was so rare for him to want to go to something like a party that you felt bad saying no. His mood got so much better after being back in training with the team too, and he wanted to celebrate. So you got up and put the costume on, even though you kind of hated it, and you both left for the party.

But it was impossible to concentrate on having fun. Your mind was somewhere else. In all the classes you had to go to, the assignments you had to get done, …it was a bit overwhelming at the moment. People were drinking and that always made your anxiety worse. You didn’t like how hard it was to guess what a drunk person could do next. And when a few of them bumped into you, that feeling only got worse.

“Trick or treat?”, screamed Pedri, making you jump.

“Treat?”

“Here”, he said, offering a bag of sweets and pecking your lips. “Double treat. Just for you”.

You smiled at him but the smile was soon gone when you checked the time and saw how early it was. You had only been there for twenty minutes but it felt like hours.

The only good thing about the party was that Pedri stayed with you the whole time. You definitely didn’t want to be left alone somewhere where there were so many people. You didn’t know who many of them were either. And, even though Pedri was busy chatting and laughing with people, he knew you well. So he soon noticed there was something wrong.

“You ok?”

“Sure”, you answered, trying to smile.

“You don’t look ok. Are you not feeling well or something? Is that why you went to bed earlier?”

“Kind of. But you’re having fun so forget it”.

“No, I’m not having fun if you aren’t too”.

Despite appreciating his kindness, you also felt bad about his reaction. Your mood was not only annoying you, but it was now going to annoy him too. Great. It only made you feel worse about yourself.

“Let’s go home”.

“Pedri, we don’t have to…”.

“We do. I don’t even like parties anyway. You know that”.

“But…”.

“Shh”, he said, placing his index finger on your lips. “You come first always. Let’s go”.

It didn’t take you long to get back home and Pedri told you to go to the sofa and wait for him. He was going to make a drink for you.

“Trick or treat?”, he asked again, this time without yelling.

“Can I have both?”

“Greedy”, he laughed. “You can have this cup of tea I made for you and all these sweets I took from the party”.

“Oh my God”, you said, laughing too. “That’s so much. It’ll take me a week to eat all of it”.

“I might help you finish it”.

“Is this how American kids feel after trick or treating? I don’t even know what to eat first”. “I guess. My only source for it is the movies I watched. And the videos where parents pretended they ate all their sweets”.

“Those videos are horrible. So cruel”.

Pedri sat down next to you and brought you closer to him before turning the TV on and finding the channel you liked. More Buffy reruns were on. Perfect.

“So…wanna talk about it?”

You sighed. Did you want to talk about it? Maybe. But it wasn’t easy to put into words things you didn’t fully understand.

“I don’t know. It’s just…life, I guess. Uni kicking my ass and I just feel very defeated sometimes”.

“Did something in particular happen? Or is it just a general thing?”

“General, I think”.

“That’s…well”, he laughed. “I don’t know if better or worse. I guess if it was just one problem, we could try to fix it but if it’s just a general thing, it’s a bit harder”.

“I suppose it is like that, yeah”.

“What can I do to help?”

You looked at him and smiled immediately. He was always so eager to help. “You’re doing well so far. But I guess just be there when I need you. Talking is helping me right now. And, I don’t know, maybe you could pamper me a bit”.

“So it’s all just an excuse to be treated like a princess, got it”, he joked and your smile became wider.

“I can’t fool you, can’t I?”

Time to make a too-long post about Kate Bishop (because I love her 💜) and her potential future in Marvel comics

The most recent major appearance of Kate Bishop was (I believe, I’m not perfectly up to date on my Marvel) in Avengers (2023)’s blood hunt tie in from mid-2024, and it was GREAT. I loved getting to see Kate in her element, and I really enjoyed the way CF Villa draws her. This new costume took an adjustment period, but I really like it!

HOWEVER. Because she’s my favourite and I’m totally biased, I think she should get an ongoing comic where she’s the/a main character again, and this post breaks down some potential ways I think it would be cool to see them do this!

I hope no marvel news that I’m not aware of comes out while I’ve been writing this that makes this post completely redundant

Also! This is an open invitation to share what kind of comics you’d like to see Kate headline!

Option 1: A New “Hawkeye” Book

- Hawkeye (2017) Vol.1 cover, and Hawkeye (2012) #9 cover

The most obvious option is to give her a new series all to herself. The Kelly Thompson run is really good, and a character-defining comic for Kate. I also enjoyed the miniseries Kate got in 2021 to coincide with the Hawkeye show - I don’t think it was as strong as some of her other appearances, but it was a fun comic that introduced Kate’s sister on-panel for the first time (and gave KB a new look as Hawkeye).

For me to properly get behind a new solo series for Kate, I don’t think I would want it to tread the same ground as Thompson’s - primarily tonally, but also with the move to LA - and would be thrilled to see someone give Kate a type of story she hasn’t been in before (at least as the sole main character).

Maybe it’s just because I recently read a comic set during this period, but something like Grayson (2014) did for Dick Grayson, in giving a character a “spy arc”, I feel like an espionage-inspired run wouldn’t feel out of place (and it is canon that Kate wanted to be a SHIELD agent growing up).

- Avengers (2023) - Blood Hunt tie-in

Alternatively, (and in a very different direction) following up on Blood Hunt and (spoilers for Kelly Thompson’s Hawkeye run) with the fact that Kate’s mum is a vampire, something that learns more into that horror and supernatural side of things and maybe feels a bit Buffy the Vampire Slayer (although with the private investigator background, Angel: The Series might be a better ref) could be really cool!

Going to the other side of Kate’s lineage, taking notes from Clint’s story in Freefall, and having Kate go against her father, who is able to exploit his wealth to get away with it all, could be a really interesting read!

I’m sure there’s many different new takes or types of story to get out of Kate as a character, and as long as it was trying something new, I’d be pumped to see how it went! (If anyone has new directions they’d want to see this character taken in a solo, PLEASE share!)

While I adored the Thompson and Romero run and would’ve loved if it had gone on longer, it was strong and unique enough that I’d prefer to see something fresh as opposed to an imitation.

Option 1b: A “Hawkeyes” Comic

- Hawkeye (2017) Vol. 3 cover, Generations: Hawkeye & Hawkeye (2017) cover, and All-New Hawkeye (2016) #6

Unsurprisingly, as a Hawkeye fan, Fraction & Aja’s 2012 run is one of my favourite comics of all time. Part of this is because of how well the characters of Kate and Clint play off of each other, and I love the weird hard-to-define-but-definitely-codependent relationship that develops.

I also love Clint, so would be thrilled if the pair of them had a new comic together (oh hey! And maybe they could introduce a variant of Charli Ramsey into 616! The more Hawkeyes the merrier!)

However, with that said, similar to my view on the 2018 Hawkeye comic, this dynamic has already been done *fantastically* in this way in Hawkeye 2012, and while I am desperate beyond desperation to see these two together in a comic again, and have their relationship explored, I’m not certain how excited I would be for something trying to get at that and not succeeding quite as well (which - and this might be a hot take - I think the Lemire and Perez run kind of does).

Any new run with these two at the helm would have to

1.) capture their pre-existing dynamic

2.) present this dynamic in a way that didn’t feel like it was just using fraction/Aja’s run as a crib sheet without expanding or adding anything

Option 2: A New “Young Avengers”

The 00s had a young avengers run, the 10s had a young avengers run, it is only fair that the 20s get one as well. Also- I think they’re leaning towards this vis-a-vis the movies, so this could be something we see emerging in the run up.

The 2021 Kate Bishop: Hawkeye miniseries also ended with Kate teaming up with Cassie Lang and America Chavez, and teased potential future missions, so it would be cool to see this trio setting up a new group!

My personal ideal roster would be a bit of a merge between 2005 and 2013’s Young Avengers - with additions from the Kate-led West Coast Avengers team: Kate (obviously), Wiccan & Hulkling (they may be too busy being married space royalty, but they feel essential to YA), Speed, America Chavez, Cassie Lang, with new additions Fuse & Alloy (because I love them), and if we wanted fully fresh blood, add Shela Sexton and Brielle Brooks to the team. I am aware this is… a lot of characters - definitely too many, even - but I could not cut anyone from this list because I love them all.

Oh hey a “Fuse & Alloy” comic run would also be cool as hell. But this post isn’t about that rn.

A criticism I have of both Young Avengers runs is they never quite establish a “status quo” for the heroes to work from. This is probably very much personal taste, but I would enjoy a comic that firmly sets up their day-to-day/Homebase/etc. and then has them going on individual adventures, fighting off threats episodically, or in longer several-issue-spanning stories (I think Thompson’s West Coast Avengers is really good for this).

Option 3: A “Kate Bishop & America Chavez” team-up

- America (2017) #5 cover, Civil War II: Choosing Sides #3

I have an agenda and its name is Amerikate.

I think it is very telling that despite only minor (but great) interactions in Young Avengers 2013 these two were quickly established as best friends by writers afterwards. They play off each other very well, and I love to see their closeness and friendship.

This could be a fun dimension-hopping adventure! Combining an overarching plot of America and Kate traveling these different realities, but also the individual stories and problems of the duo in these realities (and the denizens they would come upon and want to help).

While if I were at the helm, I would obviously want a “Hawkeye & Ms America” comic to build towards a romance between the two, given the flirtatiousness of their friendship (and hey there was even that pitch for them to actually kiss a few years ago), with it starting as two friends fighting crime/monsters/aliens/supervillains/etc. and feelings reaching a tipping point… but honestly I would also be totally okay if we got a comic like this and it was purely platonic, with that kind of teasing flirting vibe that they already have. I love both these characters and their friendship is always so enjoyable to read.

When I first read Young Avengers 2013 years ago as a teen, it was actually America, not Kate, that I initially gravitated towards and went “holy shit she’s the coolest woman alive” and became one of my favourite comic characters. I would love to see America as a title name in a new comic run. Especially because her own solo titles have unfortunately not really been as strong as I was hoping for.

Option 4: “Jones & Bishop: Private Investigators”

Given that “superhero” isn’t the only profession they’ve shared, I can already see the image of this building so clearly in my mind. I think the dynamic they have in comics has been really great to see so far (Jessica Jones’s appearance in Thompson’s Hawkeye is such a good issue), and I would be so pumped to see what direction this could go.

I also think as character parallels, the conversation they have during Young Avengers Special about their different trajectories following a similar event is deeply meaningful and I think about it a lot.

Eddie Month Day 9

Steve was in hell. There was no other possible explanation. This might’ve been worse than the upside down. That at least he could do something about. 

Something had happened, not something inter-dimensional but something weird or magicky. Hell, he’d think this was all a big practical joke, if it wasn’t for all these seemingly real soldier memories and facts that he couldn’t shake that kept popping into his head.

They’d all gotten Halloween costumes from this new store that popped up downtown. Ethan’s Costume Shop was quaint and this older gentleman had helped pick perfect costumes for all of them.  

Eddie wanted these leather chaps so became a cowboy. Robin was a witch who kept trying to do spells and setting small fires. Nancy was a princess who was scared of everything and kept screaming bloody murder at the kids. 

The kids were the worst part. Max, Lucas and El were zombies who kept biting everyone, thankfully not hard enough to actually eat them. Dustin, probably the only one who would actually know what to do in this situation, was an ogre who just grunted and whacked people with his club. Mike was a werewolf and kept trying to escape to howl at the moon. Will had dressed as a ghost and had turned invisible. Thankfully Steve had made everyone take glow sticks trick or treating so they could follow his green glowing necklace. 

Somehow Steve had convinced cowboy!Eddie to help corral all of them to his house when the streets became mass chaos as everyone transformed to their costumes. Jonathan and Argyle had decided dressing up was too pedestrian and they’d been extra hands, but as high as they were, Steve wasn’t sure if they even knew what was happening. 

He leaned against the kitchen island and hung his head in his hands. All he wanted to do was to take the kids trick or treating then come home and have a relaxing evening. The kids were all supposed to be going to the Wheelers for a sleepover.

“Why the long face, darlin’?” Eddie asked with a terrible southern accent. And this. If he called him darlin’ or puddin’ or fucking baby cakes one more time he was going to go find his nail bat. 

“Eddie, for the last time, stop with the names. And I think it’s perfectly reasonable, actually, for me to be upset right now. Look around!” 

Steve felt bad instantly when Eddie looked down and started to walk away. 

“I’m sorry, Eds. I don’t even know if you’re actually even Eddie in there. But for the record, this is not a nice normal night for me. How many times have you corralled ghosts and zombies, man?”

Eddie nodded and looked around. The kids had resorted to chasing each other around the house, which was honestly an improvement to them trying to get out of any available door or window. They’d put Nancy upstairs in a bedroom away from anything scary. Steve had taken Robin’s wand away and hidden it and she was searching the place for it. 

“I guess you’re right, there.” Steve winced at the accent. 

They just stared at each other for a moment. Steve sighed. “You want a beer?”

Eddie shrugged and nodded. They ended up sitting on the island, so they could keep an eye out for the kids. Somehow it became a drinking game. Drink every time one of the zombies bites someone. Drink for every grunt. Drink for every time Argyle giggles at nothing funny. Soon they were giggling at nothing themselves, leaning into each other and almost falling off the island. 

It was someone’s idea to relocate to the couch. They threw a movie on and weirdly all the creatures flocked to the light or the sound or it was just background neurons firing that they go watch the tv when it’s on. They all piled in a little nest of blankets like puppies and nodded off. 

Close to midnight, something snapped in his brain, like a rubber band. He looked at Eddie. 

“What the fuck?”

“Oh you’re back?” He yawned. 

“Back? Where did I go?”

“Do you remember being a cowboy and the kids were zombies?”

Eddie’s eyebrows went up under his bangs. “Jeez, that wasn’t from my stash, right? That must be Argyle’s-“

“No, man. I don’t know what happened but everyone became their costume. You’ve been talking in a terrible southern accent all night and calling me- never mind. Will was invisible!”

Eddie smirked. “Callin’ you what?” The accent was even worse now, combined with the slurring. 

“That’s the part you’re worried about?”

“That’s the part you’re gunna tell me first.” He leaned in close. “Was it sweetheart? Was it pretty boy?”

Steve shivered. “Uhhh, nope.” Eddie sat back and put his finger to his chin, thinking. It made Steve huff a laugh at him. “Think more southern, more cowboy, Eds.”

He nodded, leaning back in. “Buttercup? Sweet pea?”

Steve laughed and shook his head. 

“I dunno, darlin’, I guess we’ll never know.” Eddie pulled him close and their lips met.

and continuing her legacy we have monet de haan, the gg spin off might have been painfully mid but monet is my daughter and i am in love with this dress

speaking of teen show fashion, pretty little liars had some truly awful fashion moments but troian bellasario in this dress has literally changed the trajectory of my life

and for my niche audience, noora and her itertions in all skam version did the clean girl aethetic before tiktok was a thing, here are the two 'noora' outfits that are living rent free in my head

for most memorable wedding dress i nominate leslie knope's newspaper dress which i assume was inspired by carrie bradshaw's dress, both are inspiring fashion moments

game of thrones costume design is stunning, like i could have put so many more on this list

buffy in her brown leather pants and a simple white tanktop, this is too hot

another show with absolutely stunning costume design: the queen's gambit

i have not stopped thinking about audrey plaza wearing this white dress in the white lotus in over a year

i love pose, the show itself is so good and it has some amazing fashion moments, this is the most memorable to me, elektra as marie antoinette

reign was a hot mess, so addicting but a mess, but the fashion - as inaccurate as it may have been - was so stunning, this is my all time favorite dress on the show

dickinson on the other hand is such a fun and good interpretation of antebellum US/emily dickinson's life, emily's yellow dress and her cute little hat has all my heart

skin's effy truly inspired so many edgy teen girlies in the 00/10s, no one can deny her influence on teen media and fashion

I love this question, thank you for asking!! I will talk forever about my favorite things!! The descriptions are going to be short because if I go too much into why I love the media/characters I would literally be talking forever.

Favorite media (in no particular order):

The Magicians (tv show) - I have not read the books but the TV show is just very well done imo. A lot of things change season to season and it does not follow the typical formula that I'm used to which makes it very interesting.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer (tv show) - Truly one of my favorite shows of all time. I honestly don't think I can summarize what makes it so good; you just have to watch it.

His Dark Material (book series) - This is about the book series. The movie is bad; the HBO TV series adaptation is decent. The writing is what makes the book series stand out for me; it's phenomenal and has cemented it as probably my favorite book series of all time. It's beautiful and tragic and I'm a sucker for biblical themes. I wouldn't recommend reading unless you're okay with a little sacrilege.

Lord of the Rings (book series/movies) - I'm mainly talking about the movies. The books are great too but for me it's a rare instance of the movies being as good or possibly better than the books. Amazing casting, costuming, scenery, cinematography, and practical effects!! They still hold up 20 years later as some of the best movies of all time.

The Left Hand of Darkness (book) - I read this recently and it became one of my favorite books. It's a sci-fi book about an envoy who visits a planet that is always cold and the people there have no gender. I'm not gonna say much more about it but I really cannot recommend this enough; it stayed with me in a way that not many things have.

Trigun (manga/anime) - I still haven't read the manga (i'm going to) and I've heard that the manga knocks the anime out of the park, which is impressive because the anime is one of the most moving things I've ever seen (both the 98' and 23' adaptations). It's very character driven and it very quickly became on of my favorites of all time.

Avatar the Last Airbender (tv show) - the OG series is one of the best shows I've ever watched. I know it's for kids, but it is truly an almost perfect show to me.

My Hero Academia (manga/anime) - I'm biased because this is my current hyperfixation but I've become very attached to the characters and I think it's a really interesting look at society and the way it elevates some people and breaks down others.

Favorite characters (in no particular order):

Buffy (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - She's just… character of all time. She works so fucking hard and goes through so much and she can barely hold on but she still just keeps fucking going. See the season 2 finale "Bargaining part 2" for a full understanding of why I love her.

Vash the Stampede (Trigun) - He's so old and isolated and has gone through so much but he still has so much faith and hope and love and peace. His ideology has flaws but he is just so good at his core and I love him.

Quentin Coldwater (The Magicians) - He's so fucking depressed and sad and he wants to be good at things but he's just not as good as he wants to be but he still tries and people still love him because of/despite it. God I fucking love him (I relate to him a little too much).

Nico Di Angelo (Percy Jackson) - He has a lot of darkness in him and is scared of it but still keeps trying to be good and you know what? He's succeeding. I love him.

Bakugou Katsuki (My Hero Academia) - He has extreme anger issues and starts as a huge asshole but betters himself because he can't stand to be that way anymore and I really respect that.

Natalie (Yellowjackets) - She's a fucking mess in the real world but extremely helpful in the wilderness. Something about her needing to be useful and handling it very poorly when she's back in a situation where she can't be just really speaks to me.

Adora (She-Ra) - Much like Buffy, she works so fucking hard and is literally the chosen one against her will and she still stands up and fights no matter what.

Tenth Doctor (Doctor Who) - I think I'm biased on this one because I watched David Tennant act his ass off at a formative age, but man. Once again, characters who are very lonely/isolated but still try their best to help people who won't get it and won't thank them just really get to me.

Spike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) - An extremely complicated character. I think the main thing that draws me to him is that he kind of breaks the rules regarding vampires/vampire souls within the Buffy universe.

Zuko (Avatar the Last Airbender) - Best redeption arc of all time. Idk what else to say.

Merlin (Merlin) - I think this is number 11 but I have to include him. I've never seen a better example of someone whose moral compass is exclusively being loyalty to one person. He disregards everything else. His entire existence is solely devoted to Arthur and the realm and also Colin Morgan's acting is extremely compelling to me.

LAST SONG: so a thing about me is that eventhough I love music, I do have a hard time with noise, it gets too much for me easily, so I don't tend to just have music on. Sometimes when I drive. THREE SHIPS: Meryta/Tansui (ffxiv), they make me insane. I've lost it over these guys, I have so many thoughts, so many things that compel me, so many ideas about their dynamic and the implications. I'm in a one-man rowboat for this ship and I appreciate everyone who is taking interest and cheering me on. Solas/Iwyn (Dragon Age), they just always and forever live rentfree in my brain. Sarkan/Agnieszka (Uprooted), they're delightful and their dynamic is so fun. I was waffling here, and ended up picking a ship I've written for and not just one that compels me or some of my fave friend's OC ships because there is a few. Also *this* close to picking Magnai/Hien, it's not a ship tho. It's not that would be madness, right?

Babysitting the Puppet : I love this because I turned Chu Shuzhi's puppet into a full character and that was fun. Also I love being able to make Guo Changcheng act all brave and kickass.

Fic #4 Torchwood & Buffy the Vampire Slayer Mashup - John Hart/Ethan Rayne

Hearts in the Rain - I wrote a Torchwood homage to the Buffy episode where Ethan Rayne rents out Halloween costumes that make the wearer turn into the costume and at the end obviously John Hart was behind it but then, I decided on the twist of having him be dating Ethan Rayne (he so would). And then I really really started thinking about them. And that resulted in this. This is one of my favourite rare pairs.

The Buffy Re-watch: S2E6 (part 2)

Halloween

Buffy looks good in her costume, as does Willow.

Correct reaction Xander on both counts.

Cordy is confusing, Oz thinks so too.

Who gives toothbrushes to kids on Halloween? And how many did they buy to be able to give out to kids? Like did they buy a few shop's stock of them? Are they dentists so they are able to get them in bulk, if that's a thing? Just get candy, it would be easier and cheaper.

What was the point of Ethan's plan? Just complete chaos with no actual goal? Just doing it for shits and giggles. Not judging, just curious.

Willow is a ghosty, Xander is an army man, and Buffy is an 18th century noble woman. This is going to be fun.

To someone from the 18th century a car would seem like a demon. Sort of reminds me of the Star Trek: TNG episode where Picard had to convince a group of proto Vulcans that he wasn't a god. Specifically, the conversation he has with one of the villagers about how technology has advanced and how it might appear to others from the past. To an 18th century woman, a car could be seen as something horrible and evil because she can not comprehend the technology, just like in Star trek where Picard was believed to be a god because his crew saved someone's life. Does that make sense? Because it does to me, but I know that not everyone might follow what I'm saying.

And after only a few seconds of 18th century Buffy, Willow is already done with her shit.

'Who died and made her the boss?' Well, Willow technically died and since she was the only one who remembered her own name when she got turned into a ghosty, she got to be the boss.

Spike loves the chaos.

Has Giles been oblivious to the chaos this whole time?

Cordelia is good at recaps, Very succinct. Hey maybe she should do the intro recaps.

How and when did someone get in to the Summer's house basement? That made no sense to me. They just hide in there until someone happened to be around for them to come out and kill them? I know it's a fantasy, horror show, but come on. Because there's no way Angel would have left the door open when he walked in and he would never have let anyone follow him in. And before Angel got there, they locked the place down. So, someone give me a realistic answer to this, please. I'm struggling for one.

Giles is curious as to how Willow's costume makes her a ghosty. It's a fair question since he probably never saw her before the trick or treating started.

Giles goes quite at the name Ethan. He has good reasons to.

Spike rounding up mini demons to hunt Buffy.

Larry the Pirate from earlier is now an actual gross pirate.

Janus- the Roman God with 2 faces. In season 1 episode 3 of Sherlock, this particular god was used as the name of the hire car company that Sherlock and John investigate.

'Hello Ripper.' Damn, Giles has a dark past we don't know about. We'll find out in 2 episodes time.

Xander gets revenge on Larry the Pirate. Okay, but still needs to work on his issue of feeling inadequate.

Angel just picks up Buffy, sweet.

Giles has been hiding a lot of himself from Buffy and friends.

Spike, if you're going to kill someone do it quickly, because at any second the tables could turn and you will get your ass handed to you.

'Hi honey, I'm home.' See, I get that you want to savour the moment but if your goal is to kill someone, don't talk, just do. Think of all the heroes who would have died if the villains didn't monologue. But also slight parallel here as Spike will being saying this to Buffy in season 7 episode 21.

Ethan disappears and Spike knows when to get the hell out of Dodge. Self preservation skills.

I like that after this entire night Willow feels confident to wear her outfit without the ghosty costume. It's a great look for her and Oz likes it too. It's the second time he notices her.

Angel hated women from his time. We could have saved so much trouble if we knew this earlier. The scene between Angel and Buffy is cute, I won't deny that. And Buffy is just as pretty in a tank top and sweatpants as she was in her costume.

Ethan is gone for now, but the look on Giles' face, damn that's dark. He really doesn't want people finding out about his past. I mean, you really wouldn't want anyone to find out if your secret was as bad as his is. Which we will find out about in 2 episodes time. I seriously thought that gap between these was bigger for some reason.

Okay, that's it for this episode. Tomorrow, Buffy has an unexpected visitor with some shady shit going on.

I hope if this audio series does well, maybe one day we’ll get a full animated sequel. Like a Netflix film or something. Because (to me) animation would be the perfect way for all the OG’s to reprise their roles perfectly without aging-up the characters too much. So many cool stories they could tell, whether it’s the cannon continuation from the comics, the stories about Willow’s daughter (from the novels, which are surprisingly a lot of fun), or even an animated adaptation of the audio drama. Also, if you have the time, I recommend reading “Buffy: The Lost Summer” comic. It’s a one and done story, that takes place somewhere around Season 6 or 7, and it’s a riot! A lot of callbacks to Season 2’s “Halloween” and has the Scoobies attending a convention with a “Spike” costume contest. I just finished reading it and had a great time.

I’d love that and I completely agree !! I wouldn’t want a reboots, I’d need a continuation and I think animation would be the way to go too !!

Do You Cosplay: Back when I used to dabble in LARPing, I did lots of costume work, so I GUESS you could count that as cosplay? Also have fursuited a few times back when I was still active in the fandom. I'd like to tell myself that someday I'll get back into making cool character costumes when I have the perfect combination of time/money/space ... buuuut we'll see. X3

What Each Muse Smells Like (because I'm a weirdo that overthinks this sort of thing)

Buffy: When she was in high school she used to wear those generic "designer" brand spoofs. She still sometimes does but only on special occasions or date nights, but more often than not she smells like her shampoo (some kind of mysterious floral scent that can't be identified but is pleasant nonetheless), deodorant (something basic like powder fresh or just the hopelessly vague "regular"), and mint and baking soda from her toothpaste. She reasons that she's trying not to have a signature scent when she goes hunting, even if it's already in her blood, she figures it better not to add some distinctive perfume as well.

Willow: Sooo...I know by canon she smells like strawberries which. Fine okay (kinda irritates me tho cos there's a part of me that's like, it's cos she's a red head, huh?). But I kinda like the idea that it's that fakey scent of strawberry. That overpoweringly sweet scent from gum or a bag of skittles. She also smells of incense (Dragon's Blood or Sandalwood sticks), coffee, and cheap leather (from the chair set in front of her computer, providing she's been preoccupied with it for one reason or another).

Cordy: She smells like the real versions of the designer imposters that Buffy wore in high school. If you asked her she'd swear she could tell the difference. This is patently untrue. For some time she'd thought Buffy's questionable fashion were due in part to her spending her allowance on Dior and Mugler, a thing that she'd almost found admirable until she learned the truth. After leaving Sunnydale, she could not afford the luxury anymore. Although she eventually shifted to using Bath and Body Works or Victoria's secret body sprays, I can also see her being the type of person who's frugal when it comes to monthly sub services, aside from something like Scentbird. She favours delicate floral scents and the more mysterious ones that smell like nothing but their price tag.

Tara: Having some crunchy hippie tendencies, she tends to smell like patchouli and bonfire. She could be described as smelling like a hearth or well used witch's alter. Dried candle wax, old flowers, incense smoke of so many different scents that they all blended together to become some thing unique and unknowable, and other burnt offerings. She also usually smells like whatever tea she'd made for herself in the mornings. Often Earl Grey or Darjeeling if she's feeling fancy.

Harley: She got in the habit of wearing cheap body sprays with Jay (Joker), the kind of stuff you buy at Walmart or Target that smells of Cotton Candy or Gummie Bears. After she broke up with Jay, she just never got out of the habit. She also smells like gun metal and powder/smoke, blood, and greasepaint depending on her costume, otherwise she just might have the powdery scent of someone who wears a bit too much makeup.

Crowley: Apples, cinnamon, and wood smoke. I actually did look into what snakes smell like because I can't resist adding a new snake aspect to the list. The overall consensus seems to be that snakes don't have much of a natural odor apart from a danger musk, which can vary from species to species but often smells of death. Hard pass, ta. So we went with the other fallback of "Eden Reference lmao". Also may add to that the scent of red wine or smokey sweet whiskey, coffee, and tea and old books if he's been paying a substantial amount of time in a certain bookstore.

Matt: Perhaps the most particular about scents for obvious reasons. Due to particular sensitivities, he rarely wears colonge, though he doesn't necessarily mind it on others. All of his toiletries are made with as few chemicals as possible. He often smells of fresh sweat, blood, the city, and leather.

StEx Appreciation Month Day Twenty-Nine: Favorite Characters!

I chose my favorite character from each main group: Engines, Freight, Coaches, Components, and Nationals (because I have too many favorite characters! I swear I am so normal about this musical)

Electra: Ough there's so much, the wig, the make-up, the costume, the songs, the attitude, the canonical bisexuality and gender fluidity. What more could you want in a character?

Dustin: He's so friend-shaped! And I'll say it again, I think he's underrated within the fandom (I also think he should get a little more recognition within the musical for being the other half of the winning team, but what can you do)

Ashley and Buffy: Oops, it's a tie! I love them both so much, I can't separate them. I love their dynamic with each other and with Dinah! They just seem like such a close-knit bunch

Krupp: I'm gonna be honest, my favorite component rotates so much because they're all such cool characters! For now, Krupp gets the honor

Brexit: Yeah, he kinda just wiggled his way to the top. He's just so small and silly!
