Watashi ga Motenai no wa Dou Kangaetemo Omaera ga Warui! (or Watamote, to simplify the things) is a manga created by Nico Tanigawa that started being published in 2011 at Square Enix’s online service, Gangan Comics Online, and was later adapted into an anime in 2013.

The story is about Tomoko Kuroki, a 15 years old girl that realizes that in her first 2 months of preparatory, she hadn’t talked with anyone of her class, or her school, or the world outside her family, being completely unpopular, so she decides to become popular at any cost…..the thing is…..that she is extremely shy and socially awkward, being unable to have a simple conversation; but she doesn’t surrender and always tries her best to accomplish her objective……failing every time. We see the numerous social screw ups of a lonely girl………..and we laugh about it……‘cuz is a comedy after all.

 -That doesn’t sound so nice……..why should I watch/read it?

Because the premise is interesting…..instead of having the usual protagonist of a normal slice of life story, that hangs out with their friends after school and whose only problems are tests and stuff, we have a socially unsuccessful protagonist that pass all her free time alone, trying to become well-liked by the people, using unorthodox methods, like numerous anime and videogames tropes, that only work in fiction, as she realizes after failing in her attempts continuously; the series manage to show, through a humorous approach (though it has its serious moments), the life of a person with a serious social anxiety in a very accurate way. Also, the protagonist is not the usual moe archetype of a shy girl that is gentle and sweet and only wants to have friends but can’t because of her shyness….instead we have Tomoko, who is desperate to be popular (or to have someone to talk to at least), and is not a pleasant person, being inside a huge pervert and having a grudge against popular people and some kind of superiority complex, probably as a way of coping with her loneliness; as a result, we have a more realistic character, whose imperfection makes easier to identify with. All these things make the series very relatable, as there are many persons in the same position as the protagonist (this is the main reason why the story of this unpopular girl became ironically popular in the west……or at least in 4chan…)

In synthesis, the story is good and is really funny (though you can argue whether is correct or not to laugh about some person misfortune, but whatever…), so you should definitely read the manga or watch the anime, especially if you were or are in a similar situation as the protagonist, because….well……is nice to laugh of yourself now and then (though it can let you a little extremely depressed if it’s too similar to your life……like in my case……)

Thinking about the blood curse and how perfect a metaphor it is for OCD. Shadow Tomoko being this kind of totalitarian dictator who wants to overthrow Hikari and impose a government based on her own philosophy, with intentions to expand Ku's borders. Tomoko struggling with this voice saying all these things, impulses to kill her father, and sometimes she just has to tell him she loves him to make these thoughts go away and reassure her that she isn't going to harm him.

i think tomokoverse deserves a modern au, and there's a cute twist! however that would involve spoilers for the fic i'm working on which is also one of the most painful things about it

I think. imho. Hikari would be terrible during pregnancy. Even late into it he would insist on working For His People meanwhile Benkei (and later Partitio) is like boy if you don't rest

Ok but y'know, it's extremely likely Tomoko spent a lot of time with people in lower classes so chances are she doesn't speak with a posh accent and isn't as formal as Hikari

Still don't think she'd have Partitio's accent cause she splits most of her time between Ku and Roque Island.
