The Boss Baby (2017) Dir.: Tom McGrath Un chico vive una vida idilica junto a sus padres que termina de pronto con la llegada de un hermanito. Un hermanito muy inusual pues habla y gesticula como un empresario cincuenton. Alli veremos que este bebe llego con la mision de detener a una compañia de vender perritos para asi evitar el inminente reemplazo que estos tendran en las familias. La pelicula cae en la formula tipica de este tipo de cintas, pero aun asi logra sacar sus buenas carcajadas y pasar un buen rato, pues es conciente de sus limitaciones. La historia es bastante demente y la imaginacion del protagonista esta muy bien llevada como tambien Alec Baldwin como el bebe, pero todo eso siempre y cuando la veas predispuesto a la experiencia y sin esperar el santo grial. 7.5/10 #thebabyboss #tommcgrath #alecbaldwin #stevebuscemi #movies #dreamworks

On 23rd October 1940 playwright, poet and jazz musician, Tom McGrath, was born.

Born in Rutherglen, Glasgow, McGrath lived in London in the 1960s and was strongly associated with the UK’s underground ‘counterculture’ as founding editor of the hippy bible International Times. He returned to Scotland in 1969 and studied for a degree in English and drama. In 1972 McGrath worked with Billy Connolly as musical director of The Great Northern Welly Boot Show. He also managed the Third Eye Centre (now Centre for Contemporary Arts) for three years from 1974.

He is most famous for writing the popular play Laurel and Hardy. McGrath’s later work included The Hardman in collaboration with gangster-turned-sculptor Jimmy Boyle and an adaptation of Tankred Dorst’s Merlin.

More recently, he was Scottish Arts Council’s associate literary director: a post crucial to the development of many younger playwrights which McGrath held for over a decade.

Tom McGrath passed away 29th April 2009 from liver cancer.

THE BOSS BABY (2017) Concurrent direct de Pixar en termes de films d’animation en CGI à destination du grand public, la section animation du studio Dreamworks n’a su véritablement qu’offrir deux oeuvres mémorables, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON (2010) et l’incroyable leçon de 3D HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 (2014) -non, CHICKEN RUN (2000) et SHREK (2001) sont définitivement exclus de la liste-. On retrouve ici derrière la caméra Tom McGrath, responsable de la trilogie moyenne MADAGASCAR (2005, 2008 et 2012) et du décevant MEGAMIND (2010). Le concept vaseux de THE BOSS BABY n’a qu’un but, attendrir la masse de beaufs à la manière des insupportables Minions de vous-savez-qui: à grands renforts d’expressions faciales surexagérées mixées à un chara-design vie et sans âme, le film essaie par tous les moyens de nous attendrir par le biais de cet envahisseur opportun, avec à la clé un mensonge idiot sur la dite origine des bébés. Curieusement censuré lors d’une scène de nu (nous qui avons tous vu le zizi de Sangoku sans en être choqués à vie), THE BOSS BABY tente maladroitement dmarcher sur les pas de la narration du mémorable TOY STORY 3 (2010) qui demeure encore la référence ultime du genre “fable de la nostalgie de l’enfance + passage à l’âge adulte”. Expédié, sans saveur, le produit de Tom McGrath passe à la moulinette tout ce qui aurait pu lui construire une identité: voguant d’un style graphique changeant (au cas où le spectateur, enfant ou non, serait stupide) à des situations mettant en scène des stéréotypes caricaturaux dénués d’inventivité, on ne peut que consulter l’heure pendant le visionnage, pour estimer la durée restante du calvaire à subir. THE BOSS BABY est clairement LE film calibré pour les jeunes mamans qui fantasmaient sur LE PRINCE D’EGYPTE (1998) lorsqu’elles étaient encore pré-pubères: quoi de mieux que cette douche froide pour les réconforter du fait de n’avoir jamais eu de vrai prince, mais bel et bien un bébé, auquel le film les renverra à grands coups de mimiques et de séquences formatées -ô combien en rapport avec leur vie actuelle- énervantes par tant d’évidence. Même les doublages d’Alec Baldwin (HARPIES - 2007) ou encore Steve Buscemi (DESPERADO - 1995) ne rattrapent rien: un bon ratage des familles total, ou quand consommable rime avec oubliable.
