i have a confession to make. when i said i enjoyed the a2z designs.. i was lying a bit

i didn't like a2z sofdti design ⊙﹏⊙∥. i dunno. something about that arm.. fluff.. shawl thing wasn't my favorite. and while i do appreciate how fucking hard it is combining her two personas together with their colors and. completely different shape language i just. it wasn't for me

so i brought back her shadow self a bit. gave her her some fluffy princess sleeves because technically, she IS the netkings daughter. making her a princess. also added some glitchiness because.. well. artificial little lady

as a quick note, i probably wont make any more tome content after the redesigns (we are at 3/6). but i love how welcoming the fandom has been even after like. a several year absence. if i have talked to you in the past and we are mutuals, dont be afraid to shoot me a message to ask me for my discord :> even just to say hi

X-Whip Comics Season 2 Ep.3 (2/??)

And so, the exhibition match gets underway as Alpha and Zetto demonstrate the new rules. But what surprises will the X-Whips find, as the duo reveal their super forms?

As a reminder, this is a story that takes place after the events of a What-If Season 3 story that I made before the A2Z movie trilogy was even conceived. So while some things from the trilogy may carry over, this is essentially a separate timeline.

Also, the new names in the tags are of characters that make an appearance in the crowd on page 4 of this part. We'll be seeing them later in the story.

man coming back to tome as like. an interest has been so nice for me actually. forgot how much all these guys mean to me

so. a lot of people seemed to like the comm drawing i drew of the tome girls. so i gave in and watched a2z finally after it being out for like... 7 years apparently? and god. everything was so fun and nostalgic. and then i blinked + blacked out + drew an alpha redesign. not that i didn't like the a2z designs, but i saw a good opportunity to flex some character design muscles yknow?

some design notes: i wanted to try and combine elements i liked from both season 1 and 2 designs while also adding a couple things. as much as season 2 looks are peak for me after a rewatch, i missed the blue... so i put that back on him while also adding some gold inspired by his game design.

his top is a kind of. blend between all the tops he's worn? idk how to explain it rn. but i also gave him sandles.. i just thought that would help with the whole. mythology theme he's supposed to have. i also got rid of his like... roman numeral tattoos on his eyes. im so sorry. i just never really liked them. what i replaced them with is a small circular eyelash to kind of imply a lowercase a? (one is technically reversed. but do you see the vision) i also gave him a roman numeral earring. this would probably be a bitch to animate but its cute, dammit

i smoothed out the tail because while i LOVE his tail. its so cute. i was so mad he didn't have his tail in the game. i just wanted it to match the roundness of his wings? i DID give him some pointy fangs, kind of a leftover present from the virus? i know they're game avatars but i always liked when trauma/big events changes a character's design in some way. (zetto's arm, for example)

anyway. im tired. i might tackle the others (i REALLY wanna do softdi + flamey. but alpha is my favorite so he was first.) but we will see.

X-Whip Comics Season 2 Ep.3 (1/??)

And so we begin the next chapter in the Guilder's Crown arc: the Exhibition Match! This chapter, we'll get an idea of how the new rules regarding super forms come into play. And who better to show it than two of the most famous players in TOME!

redraw challenge of various years strikes again! personal rambling + old versions under the cut

ahaaa um. hi. so ive been posting like a TON of tome art recently and you all definitely know this, BUT! a2z 3's release i decided now is probably a good time to revisit an old redraw challenge i tasked myself with when i was younger! i had drawn an image of rubirules in 2016, and in 2017 i was like...hm. i can do better. and the cycle repeated over and over except for a Few Years. anyway, here are the old versions for you to see

2016, 2017, 2018, and 2020, respectively.

i already got mushy about this on twitter and i dont usually bare my soul like this but tome is a VERY dear series to my heart despite its flaws, it had very tangible effects on my art and taste in story, and thinking about it again as an adult and being able to draw the characters competently now...its like. young me would be overjoyed yk? it's far from perfect but thats just how art always is i think. im excited for the coming years where i can try again.

anyway! i tried to be pretty antiperfectionist about this one, not bothering to freak out over little things n shit. i also used a brush meant to mimic the default flash pen for the lineart. im satisfied and if i ever get a time machine and go back to 2016 i could explode little cosmos brain.

ZETTO:

favorite thing about them: when i was a kid the kirb/zetto twist did genuinely make me insane. in a good way. i think hes a really fascinating character in his like...Mentality Switches between personas yk. guy whos a jerk in a funny way vs guy who just actually sucks

least favorite thing about them: honestly i wish it was just made more clear during like episode zero or smth what his stance in sofdti as like....a living thang was? not that it would matter much in the grand scheme of his development but idk kizuna said some SHIT yk

favorite line: id probably say like...a lot of stuff from the nylocke battle in the gemini tournament. absolute lowest point of that guy its really interesting. (obligatory MY ARM AAAAAGHHHHH mention purely because holy shit he was screaming)

brotp: HIM AND GAMESOFT oh my godd them together. aughh. the only two guys who Know the guys who can talk abt shit and he can be sad. solace in understanding and so on

otp: i know its basic but like....alphazet mannn. everything abt the two of them was PAINFULLY gay and its honestly kind of funny kirb (the guy not the character) didnt notice. runner up is him and nylocke becahse i just think they are silly and funny

notp: i dont really have anyone with him that i actively LOATHE but i think its probbably him and kizuna. putting my personal gay zetto hc aside i think theyd both be wayy too codependent unless they got like. therapy. i know a lot of what ive been saying so far makes it sound like i hate kizuna but i dont i PROMISE

random headcanon: i feel like postseries hed find a way to set gs up with a virtual machine desktop of her own so her knowledge of the world can extend beyond what she knows in tome. they spend time bonding over computer science n junk :)

unpopular opinion: im honestly never good at this part but as an adult with better drawing skills now...i actually like drawing his hair

song i associate with them: zetto was never someone i had much of a playlist for back in the day so i had to scrounge a bit but i think i found something satisfactory

favorite thing about them: REALLY underrated secondary antagonist, interesting moral code, she has insane girlie guilt over her actions that doesnt get explored enough.....and shes a kitty cat :)

least favorite thing about them: her arc in the original series was like...a little inconclusive? i wish she couldve come to terms with sofdtis sentience and whatnot. the trajectory of a2z is changing her in a way im really liking so far though! im excited to see where she goes

favorite line: that whole rant at the tail end of the series where shes just like. a bunch of people she cared about almost died and she was freaking the fuck out. it hurts....i love her she needs THERAPYY

brotp: she doesnt get to interact with too many characters during the series but in my perfect world i think shed be chill with demonking. dont question my madness i know im right

otp: re the previous answer she doesnt interact with a lot of characters, on this note Especially im hesitant to give a definitive answer but i think if her parallels with flamey were more explored...in my perfect world.........theyd work so spicily

notp: same as zetto but also tacking gs onto this. less out of kizunas ability to see her as a person currently and more that in the future if/when she does end up coming around i do feel like gs would still be hurt by it. theyd be buddies tho:)

random headcanon: with the rpg version of tigerlily i sometimes wish that series kizuna had like...a secret lil roleplay presence. not necessarily on tome itself but she has to cool of SOMEHOW right. she made an anime catgirl avatar i KNOW she has thoughts about that shit

unpopular opinion about them: kizuna is probably the most divisive character ive done for this so far...all i can really say is like...i joke about supporting womens wrongs and stuff but i think introspectively she does have a lot of potential as a character that we dont see a lot of because most of the scenes with her are from zettos perspective. AGAIN tho im reallly liking where a2z is taking her so far i hope i get more scraps

ive been kinda waffling on this so ill put it to a vote. ive been talking about having a tome server ready for a bit. BUT!

NOTE that if i open it in time for a2z part 2, ill host a watch party for it! the reason i added the days before as options is in case people think it'd be a good idea to be able to get settled in the group earlier...
