First off, a shoutout to @singlemaltwhiskey for sending me a sample of this ultra-rare single-malt. ... Tomatin 1982 - With only 560 bottles produced world wide, this is the rarest whisky I’ve every tried. Distilled in 1982 and bottled in 2010 this 28yo whisky literally blew my socks off! Officially opened in 1897 Tomatin’s roots can be traced as far back as the 18th century. Tomatin sold the majority of its production to blend distilleries, but due to declining demand was forced into liquidation twice. In its last stint, it was purchased by Takara Shuzo and Okura making it the first wholly Japanese-owned Scottish distillery, in 1986. Since the purchase the brand has undergone an overhaul of its strategy and focus was directed at growing its own brand name through single-malt production. The 1982 Single Cask is directly from Refill Sherry Puncheon Cask #92, bottled at 57% abv; and is one prime example of the 30+ regular, limited and travel-market offerings.
