It had been a long damned day. Chasing a damned ShadowDemon all over the city, stopping a theft, then tripping over his own two feet after getting some coffee.

Tolaas just wanted to be back in his villa, sit on his couch, and have a drink. He pulled out his black keycard, stuck it in the hotel's elevator, and then hit the button for the top floor.

The elevator dinged and opened, and Tolaas stepped out. He walked to the door to the villa, stuck his keycard in the card reader, opened the door, and began kicking off his boots the moment he entered.

His senses immediately went off. Someone was here and they weren't human. He slammed the door and whirled around, growling and baring his teeth in a grimace and... there she was, sitting on the couch. Just sitting. Waiting for him.

He stood up completely and looked at her with bored, half-lidded eyes. "I'm not even gonna ask how ya got up here an' in here without a keycard," he said, annoyed. "What the hell er ya doin' here, Stella?" he sighed.

Tolaas took off his duster and hung it on the coatrack by the door, then did the same with his Stetson. "It's been decades since we saw each other. We agreed not ta see each other 'gain," he reminded her, Then again, every time they'd broken up in the past, they've said that, And yet, they always come back to this - tracing the other down.

He moved into the kitchen, then turned around and made a beeline for the liquor cabinet. He grabbed a glass, the bottle of Jack, and poured some into his glass. He downed the brown liquid in on =e swallow, and refilled the glass. This time he filled it full.

He shook his head as he walked back to the couch and took a seat on the other end. "Yanno where the liquor is, fix yerelf a drink if'n ya wanna." He tried not to look at her, especially into her eyes. If he did that, he might do something stupid. Stella did have gorgeous eyes, as it were. Nope, no locking eyes.

Tolaas took another drink from his glass.

Tolaas, which of your lovers is the most difficult to get along with? Are there any who concern you lately?

Tolaas gave a sigh, and closed his eyes, pinching them together at the very top of the bridge of his nose. "Stella (@casualscx) is the only one that's difficult ta get 'long with. She's so damned frustratin'! She's got this damned smirk that she gives when she gets her way, an' it's annoyin' 'cause she's so damned arrogant, an' she always has ta be right! She acts like she's smarter'n everyone! An' she rarely takes no fer a answer! She'll keep needlin' at ya, li'l by li'l 'til ya get ao 'nnoyed ya finally give in! An' she-"

He stopped himself before he went completely off. His voice calmed a bit, then a small smile came across his lips. "But she's got this way, y'know, 'a lookin' at ya, makin' ya feel like yer the only one in the room. She's got this smile that just... lights everythin' up. She walks inta a room, an' all heads turn, y'know? But when she likes ya, 'specially when she loves ya, no one else matters."

There was a sigh, and he looked down at the ground. He pursed his lips together, stuck his tongue against the inside of his cheek, then sighed softly once more. There was a small shake of his head as he spoke. "But it never works out. We... end up lettin' the small stupid shit get in the way 'a things. Maybe if'n we tried harder, let the little things go, stopped focusin' on the past an' focus on the right now, maybe... maybe we could actually make it work. That's me hopin', anyway. Every few decades we end up bumpin' inta each other, an' the cycle starts over 'gain. Maybe she just don't wanna make it work, I 'unno. But I'd like it ta last this time. Y'know?"

"But any who concern me?" He thought for a moment. "No, not really. Least none uvem have given me a reason ta be concerned."

Tolaas' hands came to rest on her hips. He raised his brow and pursed his lips. "Well, 'cause I know what it's like ta get involved with someone again after ya said goodbye. It ain't always a good idea..."

His thought turned to Stella for a moment. Someone he loved, and who loved him, but they never seemed to work out. Every few decades they'd get back together, and then later it would end it heartache, so Tolaas understood better than she knew.

"Trust me," he said. "Ya an' Lindsey may've been a thing at one time, but it ain't a good idea ta rekindle anythin' with him. It'll only end badly."

Lilah spent the next few hours talking and reconnecting with Lindsey. It was morning when she returned to the castle. She dropped her things off at her room and then went to Tolass’s room. She knocked on his door.

Who's your worst ex and why?

"Uh..." Tolaas immediately thought of Stella, because the wounds of their last breakup (which was over thirty years ago) were still fresh. This seemed to happen with her every several decades. She was toxic. The relationship was toxic, and he knew it. But then he thought about how much he still loved her, too. He kept bouncing back and forth.

That was unfair however, because he thought of an old flame who had ended up on the wrong side with a group of people that was actively trying to harm a different group of people he was trying to protect.

It did not go well, and Tolaas ended up being caught and tortured by the wrong group of people, which included the woman whom he loved.

"No one really comes ta mind," he lied.
