Lyudmila Mikhailovna Pavlichenko.
One of the most famous female snipers in world history is Lyudmila Pavlichenko, who killed more than 300 Nazis. American journalists nicknamed her “Lady Death,” although, of course, this smiling girl did not deserve such an ominous nickname. When the war began, Lyudmila immediately volunteered for the front. She killed the first Nazi near Belyaevka in the Odessa region with a Tokarev SVT-40 rifle. After two and a half months, she already had 187 killed enemies. In December she was sent to Sevastopol, where she fought for another eight months. By June 1942, she had already destroyed 309 fascists, including 36 snipers.
In total, about two thousand female snipers served in the Soviet army during the war, of whom only 500 survived the war.

• STG-44 Automatic Rifle
The StG 44 (abbreviation of Sturmgewehr 44, "assault rifle 44") is a German selective-fire assault rifle also known as the MP 43 and MP 44 developed during World War 2.
MP 43, MP 44, and StG 44 were different designations for what was essentially the same rifle with minor updates in production. The variety in nomenclatures resulted from the complicated bureaucracy in Nazi Germany. StG is an abbreviation of Sturmgewehr. According to one account, the name was chosen personally by Adolf Hitler for propaganda reasons. The rifle was chambered for the 7.92×33mm Kurz cartridge. This shorter version of the German standard (7.92×57mm) rifle round, in combination with the weapon's selective-fire design, provided a compromise between the controllable firepower of a submachine gun at close quarters with the accuracy and power of a Karabiner 98k bolt-action rifle at intermediate ranges. Studies had shown that few combat engagements occurred at more than 300 metres (330 yd) and the majority within 200 metres (220 yd). Full-power rifle cartridges were excessive for most uses for the average soldier. Only a trained specialist, such as a sniper, or soldiers equipped with machine guns, which fired multiple rounds at a known or suspected target, could make full use of the standard rifle round's range and power. The British were critical of the weapon, saying that the receiver could be bent and the bolt locked up by the mere act of knocking a leaning rifle onto a hard floor. A late-war U.S. assessment derided the StG-44 as "mediocre", "bulky" and "unhandy", declaring it incapable of sustained automatic fire and prone to jamming, though the report accepted that its accuracy was "excellent for a weapon of its type".
In the late 19th century, small-arms cartridges had become able to fire accurately at long distances. Jacketed bullets propelled by smokeless powder were lethal out to 2,000 metres (2,200 yd). This was beyond the range a shooter could engage a target with open sights, as at that range a man-sized target would be completely blocked by the front sight blade. Only units of riflemen firing by volley could hit grouped targets at those ranges. That fighting style was taken over by the widespread introduction of machine guns, which made use of these powerful cartridges to suppress the enemy at long range. Rifles remained the primary infantry weapon, but in some forces were seen as a secondary or support weapon, backing up the machine guns. In early 1918, Hauptmann (Captain) Piderit, part of Gewehrprüfungskommission ("Small Arms Examination Committee") of the German General Staff in Berlin, submitted a paper arguing for the introduction of an intermediate round in the German Army with a suitable firearm. He pointed out that firefights rarely took place beyond 800 metres (870 yd), about half the 2 km (1.2 mi) sight line range of the 7.92×57mm round from a Mauser Gewehr 98 rifle or less for MG 08 machine gun. The German Army showed no interest, as it already had the MP 18 submachine gun firing 9 mm pistol rounds and did not want to create a new cartridge.
At the start of World War II, German infantry were equipped with weapons comparable to those of most other military forces. A typical infantry unit was equipped with a mix of bolt-action rifles and some form of light, medium or a general-purpose machine guns. A problem with this mix was that the standard rifles were too large to be effectively used by mechanized and armored forces, where they were difficult to maneuver in the cramped spaces of an armored vehicle. During the invasion of the Soviet Union, increasing numbers of semi-automatic Tokarev SVT-38 and SVT-40s were used by the Red Army – mostly elite units and non-commissioned officers – while some Soviet rifle companies were completely equipped with PPSh-41 submachine guns. After experiencing high volumes of automatic fire from these weapons, German commanders re-thought their small arms requirements. The German army had been attempting to introduce semi-automatic weapons such as the Gewehr 41, but these proved troublesome in service, and production was insufficient to meet requirements. By 1941, it was becoming clear that action needed to be taken. Although various experimental rounds had been developed to one degree or another by this point, the Army instead decided to select yet a new design, the Polte 8×33mm Kurzpatrone ("short cartridge"). This used a spitzer bullet and basic cartridge design of the standard 7.92×57mm Mauser rifle cartridge, cutting down the cartridge from the original 7.92×57mm Mauser to 7.92×33mm Kurz.
Contracts for rifles firing the 7.92×33mm Kurz round were issued to both Walther and Haenel (whose design group was headed by Hugo Schmeisser), were asked to submit prototype weapons under the name Maschinenkarabiner 1942 ("machine carbine") or MKb 42. Both designs were similar, using a gas-operated action, with selective fire. Since both rifles shared the title of Maschinenkarabiner 42 the letters (H) and (W) were added to differentiate the two. The MKb 42(H) along with the less successful MKb 42(W) were predecessors of the later MP 43, MP 44, StG 44. The majority of the MP 43's features came from the MKb 42(H), with the hammer firing system and closed bolt coming from the MKb 42(W). As work moved forward to incorporate this new firing system, development halted when Hitler suspended all new rifle programs due to administrative infighting within the Third Reich. Hitler ordered that newer submachine guns were to be built, and he strongly disagreed with the use of the Kurz ammunition. To keep the MKb 42(H) development program alive, the Waffenamt (Armament Office) re-designated the weapon as the Maschinenpistole 43 (MP 43) and, making a few improvements, billed the weapon as an upgrade to existing submachine guns. Much time was wasted trying to make the MP 43 a replacement for the Karabiner 98k rifle. This goal was eventually realized to be impossible; the MP 43 cartridge was too weak to fire rifle grenades, too inaccurate for sniping, and the weapon was too short for bayonet fighting. In September 1943, it was decided that the MP 43 would supplement rather than replace the Kar 98k.
Adolf Hitler eventually discovered the designation deception and halted the program again. In March 1943, he permitted it to recommence for evaluation purposes only. Running for six months until September 1943, the evaluation produced positive results, and Hitler allowed the MP 43 program to continue in order to make mass production possible. The weapon made extensive use of for the 1940s advanced cost-saving pressed and stamped steel components rather than machined parts. The first MP 43s were distributed to the Waffen-SS; in October 1943, some were issued to the 93rd Infantry Division on the Eastern Front. Production and distribution continued to different units. In April 1944, Hitler took some interest in the weapon tests and ordered the weapon (with some minor updates) to be re-designated as the MP 44. In July 1944, at a meeting of the various army heads about the Eastern Front, when Hitler asked what they needed, a general exclaimed, "More of these new rifles!". Production soon began with the first batches of the new rifle being shipped to troops on the Eastern Front. By the end of the war, a total of 425,977 StG 44 variants of all types were produced and work had commenced on a follow-on rifle, the StG45. A properly trained soldier with a StG 44 had an improved tactical repertoire, in that he could effectively engage targets at longer ranges than with an MP 40, but be much more useful than the Kar 98k in close combat, as well as provide covering fire like a light machine gun. It was also found to be exceptionally reliable in extreme cold.
A primary use of the MP 44/StG 44 was to counter the Soviet PPS and PPSh-41 submachine guns, which used the 7.62×25mm Tokarev round. These cheap, mass-produced weapons used a 71-round drum magazine or 35-round box magazine and though shorter-ranged than the Kar 98k rifle, were more effective weapons in close-quarter engagements. The StG 44, while lacking the range of the Kar 98k, had a considerably longer range than the PPS/PPSh submachine guns, more power, a comparable rate of fire, an ability to switch between a fully automatic and a default semi-automatic fire mode and surprising accuracy. At the end of the war, Hugo Schmeisser claimed that 424,000 MP 43/MP 44/StG 44 rifles were built between June 1943 and April 1945 in four plants: 185,000 by C.G. Haenel in Suhl; 55,000 by J.P. Sauer & Sohn in Suhl; 104,000 in Erfurt; and 80,000 by Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG in Steyr, Austria. This was fewer than the 1.5 million ordered, and far fewer than the 4 million planned. Some 822 million rounds of 7.92×33mm Kurz ammunition were produced from 1942 to 1945. At the beginning of March 1945, the troops had 273.9 million rounds.
The Sturmgewehr remained in use with the East German Nationale Volksarmee with the designation MPi.44 until it was eventually replaced with variants of the AK-47 assault rifle. The Volkspolizei used it until approximately 1962 when it was replaced by the PPSh-41. It was still used by other public security formations thereafter. Other countries to use the StG 44 after World War II included Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia, where units such as the 63rd Paratroop Battalion were equipped with it until the 1980s. Argentina manufactured their own trial versions of the StG 44 made by CITEFA in the late 1940s and early 1950s, but instead adopted the FN FAL in 1955, because it used the then more common and powerful 7.62×51mm NATO round. 7.92mm Kurz ammunition is currently manufactured by Prvi Partizan of Serbia. The extent to which the Sturmgewehr influenced the development of the AK-47 is not clearly known. Apart from external layout similarity and the gas-operation principle, the AK-47 was not a copy of the German gun because the AK-47 used a very different mechanism. However, tens of thousands of Sturmgewehrs were captured by the Soviets and were likely provided to Kalashnikov and his team, so it is likely that he knew of it while designing the AK-47. United States and, later, NATO developed assault rifles along a roughly similar path by at first adding selective-fire capability in a reduced power, full-caliber cartridge.

“ The Gewehr 43” is a 7.92×57mm Mauser caliber semi-automatic rifle developed by Germany during World War II. The design was based on that of the earlier G41(W), but incorporated an improved short-stroke piston gas system similar to that of the Soviet Tokarev SVT-40. It was manufactured using innovative mass-production techniques. Germany's quest for a semi-automatic infantry rifle resulted in two designs – the G41(M) and G41(W), from Mauser and Walther Arms respectively. The Mauser design was introduced in 1941 and at least 12,755 were made, but it proved unreliable in combat. The Walther design fared better in combat but still suffered from reliability problems. The problems with both designs stemmed from a demand made by the Army that the rifles not use holes drilled into the barrel, known as ports, to run the automatic loading mechanism. Meeting this requirement meant the designs had to use uncommon mechanisms that were simply unreliable and highly prone to fouling. The German invasion of the Soviet Union led to small numbers of the SVT-40 being captured and returned to Germany for examination. These used a simple gas mechanism powered from a port cut into the barrel about 1/3 of the way back from the end, and replaced the conventional stripper reloads with a modern box magazine. It was clearly superior to the G41's, and simpler as well. In 1943, Walther combined a similar gas system with aspects of the G41(W) providing greatly improved performance. It was accepted and entered into service as the Gewehr 43, renamed Karabiner 43 in April 1944, with production amounting to just over 400,000 between 1943 and 1945.

A Captive State
A Captive State is an upcoming action adventure video game from the Tom Hoffman's novel from 2016, Beneath a Captive State, and its film adaptation, and the spiritual sequel to 2018's To The Extinction. It was developed and published by WB Games, Annapurna Interactive and Square Enix. Set in the 1990s Chicago, when the city was torn apart between the Legion Horde and the human inhabitants of the city. The alien invasion of Chicago had become widespread, after the city suffers from the great heatwave of 1995. Players take control of many individuals whom were fighting for their lives in the war-torn Chicago, and eventually stopping the infamous Project Anvil (a scientific project created by the US military that helped to defend Chicago from the alien invaders, also the outsiders too). It is set to be released on 18 January 2019 through Xbox One, Playstation 4, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch.
Gameplay
A Captive State is an action adventure role playing game, that features many similar gameplay mechanics and environment from its predecesor, To The Extinction. It supports 4-player co-op. The game also features an elements of life simulation, which players can buy some items for the unlimited amount of inventory. Aside from the player-generated individuals, players can take control of four main characters; Gabe, Rafe, Rula, and Jurgis. "As its predecesor To The Extinction, A Captive State follows the amazing blend of Grand Theft Auto 5, Just Cause, Prototype, InFamous, Gears of War, Fallout 4, Singularity, and Dark Sector", developer Annapurna Interactive explained. The main enemies were revealed as the Legion Horde, FBI and the US military. Some of the other enemies, such as hobos, cultists, and several other people. The iOS, Android, 3DS, and PSVita versions looks more isometrically point of views, rather than PC and console versions.
Plot summary
A Captive State takes place during the mid-to-late-1990s Chicago, when the alien invaders known as the Legion Horde, had invaded the entire city after the great heatwave that ravaged the entire city. Players takes on the Rittenhouse Corporation, a private military contractor that is made up of the banished US military personel and it is led by Staff Sergeant Alan Rittenhouse (Darius Rolince), formerly of the US Army's 3rd Infantry Division. Their main opponents were the illusive man (Quinten Hyde) and his wife (Lauren Jane Koons), Colonel Charles Levitt (Zachary Zakibe) of the US Army's 3rd Infantry Division, and FBI Agent Stuart Kermode (Jordan Brenda).
A Captive State begins in October 1969, when the three-day communist uprising in Chicago known as Days of Rage had began with the student protests. On 11 October 1969, a group of alien invaders known as the Legion Horde (called Scavengers in A Captive State) invaded and inherited the entire city of Chicago. A group of cultists, known as The Disciples, had established shortly after the alien invasion of Chicago, and their main purpose is helping the Scavengers to defend Chicago from the US military intervention. In 1979, the US Army (with the help of the US Marines) had intervened the city of Chicago amidst the alien invasion of Chicago ten years earlier.
In 1989 (ten years after the US military intervention in Chicago), Raphael "Rafe" Conway had being held orphanage in Chicago by the US military, after his parents were killed by Colonel Charles Levitt's men. A few days later, Brian "Jurgis" McPhee moved to the apartment Wicker Park in Chicago, after his parents were killed by the US military raid in his birthplace in Tinley Park.
Six years later in April 1995, while in Pilsen, Gabriel Conway (Victor Kamanga), Raphael "Rafe" Conway (EJ Wilkes), and Carrie Conway (Steph Oliver) were celebrating their Thanksgiving party in Aragon Ballroom, when the rock band The Nailed played their gig inside. After he meets one of his friends at the party, Rafe meets Brian "Jurgis" McPhee (Jared McKenna) who claimed his new name after he had a sex with his Lithuanian boyfriend while visiting to Chicago. A few hours later, the group of the police officers, FBI agents and the US military personnel raided Aragon Ballroom soon after The Nailed's gig ended. Rafe then rescues Jurgis, but he knocked out by the FBI agent after he fails to rescue him. After that, Ellison (Tyler Brown) and Rafe were also sent into Chicago MCC. Outside Aragon Ballroom, the two of them were rescued by Rula McPhee (Kody Theo) and her British boyfriend Danny Howells (Miles Rich).
In July 1995, after he locked up in jail, Jurgis awakens inside Chicago's Metropolitan Correctional Center. His name was revealed by the Chicago Police Department, after he had abandoned and murdered his Lithuanian boyfriend visiting to Chicago. By early morning, while Jurgis killed one of his cellmates with the kitchen
knife, the raid had began around the prison, but Rafe and Frank keeps Jurgis into safety from the prison guards. After the raid breaks out inside the Chicago MCC, Gabe and Rula finds her brother Jurgis and her boyfriend Ellison escaping from Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago. The great heatwave in Chicago had caused many Scavengers inherited the city. A few days later inside his bedroom in Wicker Park apartment, Jurgis tells his friends about the alien invasion that caused by the great heatwave in Chicago.

By the age of 7 in 1990, Jurgis left orphaned after his family were murdered by the US military. After his parents were murdered by the US military, Jurgis moves in the Wicker Park by his friends from Tinley Park. Jared McKenna portrayed Brian "Jurgis" McPhee. After Jurgis went out of jail, Rula discovers his new name was faked, and that his real name was Brian McPhee. He claimed his new name after murdering his abandoned Lithuanian boyfriend in Chicago. Alongside his adopted sister Rula, Jurgis was an avid heavy metal fan. His favourite hobby was playing guitar and skateboards. His favourite radio station were Adrenaline 90.4, Juvenile 101.5 and Chicago Hardcore. Although he was born in London, Jared McKenna had started his acting career in 2006, while he first appeared in the long running police procedural series CSI: Crime Scene Investigation and in 2007, his feature film debut was Joe Wright's period drama Atonement. He took his recent success in the 2018 movie Solo: A Star Wars Story, while portraying the young Han Solo. In January 2017, Jared McKenna had officially cast as Brian McPhee in A Captive State. Jared McKenna had cited Cole McGrath from InFamous and Stranger Things's Mike for his portrayal of Brian McPhee.
Caroline "Rula" McPhee (born 1984), is one of the four main protagonists of the story, and she was the adopted sister of Brian McPhee. Her birth name was Caroline Howells. Rula's parents were originally from Britain, but she left orphaned after her parents were murdered by the US Army's 3rd Infantry Division while visiting Navy Pier in Chicago. She was a biggest fan of rock music. She lives in Pilsen neighbourhood with her boyfriend Narciso "Nark" Hernandez (Randy Lopez). Her favourite radio station was Adrenaline 90.4 and Willows 103.1. Lesbian actress Kody Theo portrayed Rula McPhee. She came out gay at the age of 7 in 2010, and she made her acting debut in her native Ireland with TRTE's children's show Roy. At the age of 10 in 2013, she made her breakthrough role in the UK with BBC's long running medical drama Casualty. In January 2017, Square Enix had already found the 14-year old Irish actress Kody Theo (Casualty, Roy), for auditioning the role of Rula McPhee.
Gabriel Conway (born 1985), is one of the four main protagonists of the story. Victor "Vic" Kamanga portrays Gabe Conway. After his parents were murdered by the members of the US Army's 3rd Infantry Division, Gabe finds his childhood memories leading to the alien invasion of Chicago. While auditioning for Gabe, Square Enix already found Vic Kamanga, when he played the role of Alessio Jones in Spectral earlier in 2016. In January 2017, Vic Kamanga had choosen to play the role of Gabe Conway in A Captive State, and the motion capture work had began earlier.
