Happy International Peace Day 2017 Today as we celebrate the day of peace, I wish to share these beautiful #Youth4Peace pictures from the International Youth Day 2017 that we, at the Ambassadors of Africa (@AOAfricaOrg) recently hosted in Ondo State, Nigeria. We must all know that the important role that youths can, and must play in deterring and resolving conflicts are key constituents in ensuring the success of both peacekeeping and peacebuilding efforts. Therefore, we have to all play our parts in building global peace because sustainable development cannot be realized without peace and security. To achieve global peace, it must start with individuals having peace of mind which will in turn spread to others. Peace within the family is also very crucial because as the smallest unit of the society, it goes a long way in determining how much of peaceful coexistence we can achieve in the world. So, international peace starts with you and I. It is only when we love one another that we can indeed live peaceably. #ShareLove Show love to someone today and do your part in building global peace. #PeaceDay #Together4Peace #YouthDay #IYD2017 #ActOn2250 #TeamAOA #YouthMatter #WeMatter #GlobalPeace #Peace #Love #Empathy #SDGs #GlobalGoals #SustainableDevelopment

CANADIAN PEACEKEEPING: Proud Tradition, Strong Future?
May 29th is The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers and is commemorated each year to salute the men and women who serve in some of the world’s most volatile and dangerous environments to manage complex crises that threaten international peace and security. According to the latest data from their website, in April 2015, there were 107,805 UN peacekeepers in operation throughout the globe. \
122 of them were Canadian.
The Conservatives have turned away from peacekeeping, instead spending billions of dollars on war-fighting.
Retired Canadian general Roméo Dallaire, perhaps the world’s most famous face of peacekeeping, devoted much of his speech as he resigned from the Senate, to Canada’s shifting priorities. “Today, we point to the humanitarian aid dollars we’ve given, which are never enough, and proclaim we’ve done our part. Today, we have more sabre-rattling and less credibility, more expressions of concern and less contingency planning, more endless consultation with allies, or so we are told, and less real action being taken, and more empty calls for respect for human rights and less actual engagement with the violators.” He said, “This is an outright abandonment. Any description that tries to minimize that is creating a falsehood in Canada’s position.”
Peacekeeping has a place of pride in the Canadian national identity. The Canadian government has a strong mandate from the public to contribute to UN peacekeeping and a long-standing heritage to uphold.
In the conflict-ridden world, there are both great challenges and new opportunities for a new Canadian government in 2015 to help the UN to develop a robust and more effective peacekeeping approach, and thereby regain its position as a leading UN peacekeeper.
Find out which countries provide military experts, troops and police to UN Peacekeeping. You can sort contributions by type, or search individual countries for the most recent statistics.

Our engineers play a key role in our peacekeeping missions, working with host countries, UN agencies, and others to improve electricity provisions, air strips, and make roads passable.
Here a Nepalese Engineering Company serving with the UN Mission in DRCongo repairs a road between Aveba, Bukiring and Tchabi by installing a steel culvert. This culvert will help prevent the road from getting washed away by rain water. #Working4Peace
