My apartment is looking so beautiful. I hung up most of my pictures this week, and finished some other projects including the stripping, sanding, staining, and whitewashing of a battered but solid old trunk. I'm so pleased with how it's coming together! I didn't really do much to my apartment in Japan, so while I was very happy and comfortable in it, I can't say it invoked pride. But I've spent five months now picking furniture, thrifting decor, and DIYing small things, so I'm very proud. I think I'll post photos soon.

#i think I have a real knack for finding treasures at good prices #today I found a beautiful blue-green iridescent coral-shaped vase #and a wooden doohickey that's basically an O on a stand but cool #for $20 and $10 respectively #it's weird to admit that shopping is my hobby #but I get so much contentment from wandering around for hours #until I find the perfect little treasure #I try to thrift the vast majority of what I buy #in my whole apartment only three major pieces were bought new– the couch the washing machine and the mirror #everything else bigger than like a plate was secondhand #or from an outlet/liquidation store #so I feel good about my environmental impact
