I sat down pretty much for the first time since uhhh 1pm and its like my body drooped into a relaxed goopy posture but when i got up
DEAR LORD IN HEAVEN, THINGS HURT SO BAD. 😱 I'm so stiff. Ow. Omg. Yikes
I'm taking a half a tramadol. Amazingly my body hasnt actively protested beyond my right hip locking up. But its gonna hurt later. So I'm gonna take double the muscle relaxants and the tramadol and hope my body just deals with the aftermath while I sleep, cause I got shit to do tomorrow.
I don't know what shit, exactly, but we're aiming to explore more than the 5 block radius around broadway. Which was great, mind you but. Y'know. The NYC experience.
I mentioned to dad someone suggested I see the Empire State building. Found out tickets were $80 and that wasnt even to the tippy top. Dad thinks I'm just being passive about my lack of determination to see anything but. I really just have no strong interest in anything.
(If the weather were decent, I would pick a carriage ride in central park and a double decker bus tour. 🤷)
I appreciate seeing the city. The cool architecture. The bright lights. The cool touristy shit. The different "culture" of a big famous city. But it's still a very mild excitment. Just appreciation. I mean, I try to be interested, but I'm just not? 😥 These people wanna take me to art museums but I just do not connect with art. It's just endless walking to me. Which isn't something I need more of.
So when he was like "I will totally pay for your ticket if thats what you want to do"
I'm just like "honestly I would rather go shopping. I wanna see the pop-up markets and Christmas lights."
A short bit later hes got cash in his hand and is like "do you want me to break your $100?"
👀
I tried to break it earlier but a shop dude couldn't. (Dude, a goddamn $2 tote anywhere else was $15. I only needed 5 20s, you lazy pos 🤣 I'm lucky I had so many 1s!!) so I said sure. Handed it to dad. He handed me the 20s. As he's taking it he's like "....do you wanna keep your hundred..."
And I'm just. "Uhh... sure..?" And he slowly hands it back in addition to the 20s. Somehow I have $200 now?
He said he was willing to shell out the 80 on a ticket to see a view, so if I'd rather shop than see sights, he could give me cash. 😲
I love my daddy. He's been so good to me this trip. 😭 the bougee bastard
All this "I have no money to host you" crap a month ago and hes taking me to new york, buying me new boots and $20 avocado toast like its nothing? Seriously, I just wanted to hang in a clean, quiet house and eat vegetables and drink coffee. I am an EASY date, man. I feel so spoiled. Jesus.
We are POOR. I mean, not go-without-food poor, but we do hit the salvation army food pantry occasionally. Just eating the organic food at dad's is bougee to me. That shit's expensive even in a small town, let alone D.C. area prices.
.. Speaking of food.
Dad said he wants me for a few months to deprogram me. I'm like "sure, I'm all for it. But know that as soon as I go back, things are going right back to where they are."
Other day dad was telling me how bad all the food they sell us is. I agree. But I cant afford the quality shit. 🤷 I also can't take care of myself, sooo... yeah. I'm at the mercy of my habitat. There's only so much I can affect without running into someone else's needs.

How to Operate POS: A Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners
Tumblr media
Operating a Point of Sale (POS) system may seem daunting at first, but with the right guidance, you can master it quickly. A POS system is essential for businesses, enabling efficient transaction processing, inventory management, and customer tracking. Whether you’re using a traditional register or a modern tablet-based system, this guide will help you understand the basics of operating a POS.
1. Understanding Your POS System
Before diving into operation, familiarize yourself with the components of your POS system. Typically, a POS setup includes:
Hardware: This may consist of a computer or tablet, cash drawer, receipt printer, barcode scanner, and card reader.
Software: The program you’ll use to ring up sales, manage inventory, and generate reports.
Network Connection: Ensure your system is connected to the internet or local network for cloud-based services and updates.
Choosing the Right POS
Selecting the right POS system for your business is crucial. Consider factors like your business size, industry, and specific needs. Popular options include Square, Clover, and Toast, each catering to different business types. Research features such as payment processing capabilities, inventory management, and customer relationship management (CRM) tools.
2. Setting Up Your POS
Once you have your POS system, the next step is to set it up:
a. Installation
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions to install the hardware and software. Ensure that all components are connected correctly and that the software is up-to-date.
b. Configuration
Log into your POS software and configure the settings. This may include:
Creating User Accounts: Set up profiles for employees with varying access levels.
Adding Products: Input product details such as name, price, and inventory count. Use barcode scanning to streamline this process.
Setting Up Payment Methods: Configure options for cash, credit/debit cards, mobile payments, and gift cards.
c. Testing the System
Before going live, conduct a few test transactions. This helps you ensure that everything is functioning correctly and that you are comfortable with the process.
3. Training Staff
Proper training is essential for smooth operations. Organize training sessions to ensure all employees understand how to use the POS system effectively. Key areas to focus on include:
Transaction Processing: Demonstrate how to ring up sales, apply discounts, and handle returns.
Customer Interaction: Teach staff how to use the system to assist customers, including looking up products and processing payments.
Troubleshooting: Provide guidance on common issues and how to resolve them.
4. Daily Operations
Once your POS system is set up and your staff is trained, it’s time to start operating daily:
a. Starting the Shift
At the beginning of each shift, log into the POS system and check that the cash drawer is balanced. Ensure that all necessary supplies, like receipt paper, are stocked.
b. Processing Transactions
When a customer is ready to check out, follow these steps:
Scan Products: Use the barcode scanner or manually enter the product code.
Apply Discounts or Promotions: If applicable, enter discount codes or promotions.
Select Payment Method: Choose the appropriate payment option (cash, credit, etc.).
Issue Receipt: After payment is processed, provide the customer with a receipt.
c. Handling Returns and Exchanges
When processing returns or exchanges, follow the store’s policy. Generally, this involves scanning the original purchase receipt, selecting the item for return, and issuing the refund or store credit.
5. End-of-Day Procedures
At the end of each day, perform a cash count to ensure the drawer balances with sales records. Generate daily sales reports from the POS system, which can help you track performance, inventory levels, and customer preferences.
a. Backing Up Data
Regularly back up your data to prevent loss. Most cloud-based POS systems automatically save data, but it's good practice to perform manual backups periodically.
b. Reviewing Reports
Utilize the reporting features of your POS system to analyze sales trends, inventory turnover, and customer behaviors. This information is vital for making informed business decisions.
Conclusion
Operating a POS system is a valuable skill for any business owner or employee in the retail and service sectors. By understanding the components of your POS, properly setting it up, training staff, and following daily procedures, you can streamline operations and enhance customer service. As you gain experience, you’ll find that the POS system becomes an invaluable tool for managing your business efficiently. Embrace the technology, and watch your business thrive!

Lobstah Roll Po' Man
I certainly didn't wake up this morning expecting to eat lobster. I'm currently located about 1000 km from the Atlantic Ocean but grew up in New England not far from the coast, so my high standards are rarely met. (A couple of months ago I bravely purchased a live lobster at my local grocery store at a sickening price and made myself a barely decent lobster roll.)
We come to today. I get on pretty well with my local fishmonger, and while picking up my usual salmon this morning, I noticed some very fresh-looking monkfish at $10/pound. Horrifically ugly, and I've never cooked it before, so why not? We bantered a bit and I took home around 3/4 pound.
I intended to eat it for lunch tomorrow, but I had chicken stock on the stove and schmalz rendering on the back burner and chicken tinga in the oven for taco lunches this week and I was a little bit hungry, dammit. So between lunch and dinner I searched and found this recipe for "Monkfish Rolls" from the New York Times which looked promising. The comments section almost dissuaded me, but I soldiered on and decided the best course of action was to aggressively clean the fish (my fishmonger had already removed the outer layers of skin), poach it in butter and wine with aromatics rather than in plain water, and hedge my bets with a flavorful mayonnaise. It turned out pretty good.
Lobstah Roll Po' Man
Ingredients
3/4 pound bone-in monkfish steak, bone removed, skin, membranes and veins thoroughly trimmed
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup sauvignon blanc
A few sprigs of parsley
Salt and pepper to taste
1 preserved Meyer lemon, minced to a smooth paste
2 hefty pinches Sichuan pepper, finely ground
2 tsp tarragon-infused white balsamic vinegar
1 cup Hellman's mayonnaise
Your best available approximation to a top-split bun
Directions
Cut the aggressively cleaned monkfish into 1/2 inch pieces. Season with salt and pepper. Melt 3 tbsp of the butter in a non-stick skillet with the sauvignon blanc and parsley over medium high heat. When bubbling persists even with an aggressive swirling action, move the parsley to the side of the pan and add the fish. Meanwhile, combine the mayonnaise, preserved lemon, Sichuan pepper, and vinegar and mix well. Set aside. After a few minutes, turn the fish (chopsticks are helpful) and finish cooking. Chill the fish in the fridge, setting aside the infused butter for something else. Meanwhile, toast your bun in the remaining butter. Combine the chilled fish with a healthy dollop of mayonnaise and stuff the bun.
Makes one large "lobster" roll, a few spoonfuls of a "lobster" and white wine-infused butter, and a bunch of leftover flavored mayonnaise.
