the lotus' story is one that is so rife with tragedy and her abuse by ballas is of course focused on a lot in the new war, but i think one aspect of this abuse that's often overlooked is how it was actively enabled by erra, the lotus' own brother. when the lotus re-assumed her identity as natah, she thought she was going back to (relative) safety, finally free from orokin control, to subjects and a family that loved her. and erra used her trust and love for him against her, collaborated with the man that imprisoned and brainwashed her, stood by and let him use her for his own ends, and was willing to play second fiddle himself to ballas in the hopes that ballas would attain the sentients dominance over the sol system. even at the very end, erra wasn't sorry that he used his own sister as a tool, and helped her long-time torturer & abuser do the same, very nearly resulting in a horrific drawn-out death after which she would have been discarded by trash. erra did not care that ballas sexually assaulted the lotus, cut her hand off, and threw her into the void in front of him. erra was only sorry that ballas pulled the wool over his eyes and made him out to be a total fool, and put the rest of the sentients at risk. if he had any regret at all for the lotus, it would have been that she would have died for "nothing," rather than the fact that he was happy to let her die at all
