Simon’s lack of media training is not an oversight
tldr; Simon is deliberately not media-trained (or protected, for that matter)
The Royal Court disregarding Simon’s safety or even the need to media train him - groom him to be the suitable royal partner is not only because they think this isn’t serious and that Wille and Simon would break up soon and not be worth the effort.
Hypothesis: they’re deliberately throwing Simon to the wolves to encourage him to leave on his own will.
The PR disasters sure might be a problem in the short run, but the Crown’s main audience to appeal to is royalists (and the ones on the fence). Singing about revolution doesn’t automatically infer Wille’s betrayal to his role - it only shows Simon’s unsuitability.
Ultimately they don’t care about bad press about Simon, because he will never be part of the Royal Family, nor do they want him to be. If Simon embarasses himself enough the entire nation would bully him out without the Royal Court having to do the dirty work themselves.
They don’t mind Simon being a public embarassment (to the Crown), despite verbally telling (Wille teling) Simon to lay low. If they care about protecting Simon’s reputation, there was no way they would have let Simon continue to travel by public transport with ample opportunity to be harrassed and provoked to make a statement or reaction.
If they didn’t want Simon to be ‘embarassing’, they would have either banned him from Wille’s birthday event, or meticulously groomed him to be suited, booted and briefed to be the perfect royal partner. But no - they’re happy for Simon to appear woefully unprepared and let all the press and public make their own conculsions.
No one thought to explain to Simon the unspoken rules - such as the poisoned cake - because up until now, (White and European) royalty has always married their own. (Sometimes literally within the family sksk). There was never a need to share this knowledge - this is assumed knowledge within the upper class, who are famously known for gatekeeping their little quirks so they can always tell who is an ‘imposter’ and maintain their class structure.
Simon being out of the loop is another way to exclude him - if he’s struggling to adapt, that just proves that he was never up for the role, up for the challenge. Definitely not because he’s not of the right class, race or gender.
Wille being the one given the responsibility to “control” Simon is to further drive them apart and shoo Simon away. Maybe Wille would even come to his senses and realise that this relationship is not worth the trouble. He is the best candidate to deliver the blow - because the Royal Court can’t force Simon out themselves, that’s Bad and Homophobic!
But well, if Simon can’t handle the pressure himself - hmm that’s just his luck. It’s not that the Crown Prince can’t be queer or date a ‘commoner’ - it’s just Simon who’s not good enough.
