wahoo! just finished reading the September house. It was REALLY good, but the author saying she tried to avoid horror tropes is very funny considering: walls bleeding. well meaning ghost children. Person being haunted is crazy moment. Certain [blank] all along reveal that happens TWICE. also its a metaphorical and cyclical haunting. i do not think she has seen the babadook

#also the ending RULED but was also kind of tropey? unsure what she meant #and the big bad seemed like a loser the second you knew his backstory and it was much harder to be scared of him #but it was still SUPER good. esp that scene where the cops are questioning ber. very good.#lauratexts2024 #laurareads #she didnt HAVE to avoid tropes. if her whole point was to write a book where someone doesnt mind being haunted.#she should have tried to fit in as many as possible #to reiterate. finale was cool as hell. the deaths? cool. the breaking the cycle? cool. the working together? cool #elias? my son boy.#also i think their wedding anniversary being in september or something #REALLY would have tied it all together
