parasyte thoughtsss
so after finishing parasyte's manga, the anime was overall a pretty close adaptation, but it lost some of the lightheartednesses and the pacing felt unbearable to me, somehow emphasizing the preexisting flaws, so i wish i read it instead, lol.
i watched noragami after, and saw the main girl's friends, and it made me realize that the parasyte anime added friends for the girlfriend to have, that's just about the major other difference. with that, though, i think parasyte is kinda conflicting to me bc i technically agree with it, but it does a really bad job with protraying humans in a good light.
humans werent shown as evil or were lacking in appearances, but the main character doesnt have any important relationships with other people; no close friends, he has a girlfriend he cant communicate well with (and the entire series they inexplicably stay with each other) his only family: a mother dies and his father becomes irrelevant after a certain point (idk if he was even mentioned in the end at all), he stopped going to school, he's not active in the community, doesnt have any hobbies he talks abt with others, doesnt interact with neighbors, and so on. you could try to say that happened bc of Migi, but he's never shown at all to be fleshed out in a realistic human way. girls in the series attach themselves to him for some reason and often die because of it, or are harmed in general, his girlfriend gets attacked even in the last chapter.
shinichi is a good, normal boy, but also unrealistically isnt shown to be too concected to anyone, many times he was alone in his room w migi, i remembered light yagami from death note, lol, who we all know was trying to kill everyone. it just really did feel weird that there wasnt too much of an enjoyable focus on characters. i think personally the most interesting characters were migi and tomura reiko, both parasites. shinichi and his gf's relationship just frustrated me. it was just really weird to me bc you'd have thought w the way he interacts w others, he was like a recluse or something, not that if he did hate humans, he couldnt also respect them, but thats not the case, lol. it just felt strange that the end message was saying to appreciate other people and then... there wasnt much to love concerning the humans in parasyte, again, not that they were all like the serial killer, but i felt there could've been more to like about them? so i technically liked it, but it didnt feel enjoyable
