Or, I just wanted to self-indulge with my own OC and fix the mess that happened at Marineford.

Pearl's tie with Whitebeard was set into the cosmos, nothing could break it. Yet, as she stood by his side her tears welled in her auburn and red flecked eyes. It was mere minutes to the time Ace was set to be executed– no murdered. He was going to die, all because he was a remnant of a man the Marines didn’t know. She scowled and her fists balled themselves so tightly that blood ran from her palms. Her God, Fenghuang, was silent. The tie between Whitebeard and Pearl is holding strong. 

Pearl gazed up at Whitebeard and pleaded, “Let me fight! You know I have the power, I can change the tide of this war and end it for good!” she yelped. She looked away from her stalwart captain and back at the chaos unfolding in front of her. Why the hell had she made that damn tie with him in the first place? She could have said no and that would have been the end of it. Now she was bound by his word and his word alone. She couldn’t break that unless she wanted a shard of her soul to drift off into the nothingness that surrounded the great cosmos. Lost forever. She had already done it once and it was an agonizing experience to live through, but if it meant that she would be able to save Ace’s life and save the souls of those on the field then she would gladly give up a part of her soul to achieve her goal. 

“Have faith in the fight, Luffy must be the one to get Ace.” He replied. Whitebeard’s eyes never left the fight in front of him, in fact, he was solely looking at Ace. His son, his second in command. The snot-nosed brat was a spitfire and deep down Whitebeard wished that things never turned out as they did.

Pearl clenched her hands tighter. She was digging into muscles now. Though it didn’t matter, Fenghuang was feeding her enough power to regenerate those wounds. It didn’t even hurt. 

In the back of her mind she could feel Fenghuang ache, she felt her worry and wondered if she too had fallen for the freckled second commander as she had. They were inseparable. Platonic twin flames meant to conquer the seas together.

“What if he fails, tell me you’ll give me your word and set me free. I can’t stay here and just watch!” Pearl grated. 

Whitebeard hesitated, this was the fissure that ensured her win.

“If he loses, you will have full reign to leave and do what you want.” There was a grimace plastered on his face but Pearl didn't care, those words sealed themselves into the tie and allowed her to break it without fear of losing her own soul. If luffy fails in his duty to set his brother free then she would step in and achieve his goal for him. 

Pearl slammed her fist in her palm and smirked deviously, “So then it is sealed, I’ll rip apart this dusty old fortress and save Ace!”

Fenghuang stirred within her as she too felt the shifting of the tie that bound them to Whitebeard.

A tie was a singular thread that wound itself through the souls of the party that agreed to the verbal terms and drew and shared blood– the needle was the one who called the shots while the thread followed along, willingly or not. It was pure and stronger than any other force within the universe. Only the void that surrounded the outerbanks of the universe could break it, or when the users agree to un-sow the vow to one another. It was a binding spell only used to reign in Gods. 

As the battle raged on Luffy ever so slowly closed in on the podium that held Ace. Her gaze never drifted far from his figure as he raced to save his brother. It wasn’t long until he reached the podium and unlocked Ace from his shackles, however, in an equal turn of events Akainu rippled and stormed after the duo. For a short time the two brothers danced in fire and stretchy limbs. Pearl hoped beyond the Gods themselves that they would come out of this alive, but when Akainu shoved his grisly fist through the throng of marines Fenghuang instantly knew that Ace’s death was imminent and that Luffy had failed to save his older brother. 

Whitebeard's eyes widened in horror– everyone's eyes widened in horror as the burning hot fist barreled through the pool of marines and towards its target. The tie snapped into its new order and without another word Pearl blasted from her spot beside her captain and flew with great strength to Luffy's side. Shoving both him and Ace out of the way. Luffy was awestruck at the force and speed of her movements. She was above them all, Fenghuang made sure of this. 

Just in time to the fierce attack of the Admiral she captured his fist in one fell swoop and laughed maniacally. “You’re getting nowhere near these boys.” She said cruelly as she threw Akainu’s fist right back at him. The surprised and growing rage on his face was immaculate to witness first hand.

“Pirate scum!” he yelled as his attention was focused on Pearl now.

“5th Gate– Solaris’ Rage!” She bellowed as she charged the admiral. “I’ll fucking kill you, shitty fist!” Fenghuangs rage was so close to her soul that it singed and burned and shackled her own rage as the Gods' own, billowing it ten times its original force. She had no devil fruit to call upon the strong wings of Fenghuang, her rage and burning fire was her only ally.

“I’d like to see a bitch like you try.” Akainu growled.

Pearl's power here was reminiscent of a life she had lived before. Her fight with Akainu was hot, fierce, and filled with molten lava that spilled from both sides. In the heat of battle she couldn’t place the memory, but the strength and moves she had used in her previous life were burned into her soul that she just knew it wasn’t from this lifetime. Flashes of green and blood orange filled her vision for an instant before leaving her breathless. 

In the raging heat of her own skin and blood red vision the fight had come to a close. Ace was saved and had assisted Luffy in warding off any other attacks the marines may have hidden up their sleeve. Death was equal amongst both sides. After Koby’s fiery speech the war of the best had come to a close. Akainu himself was buried deep into the dusty old fortress– hopefully dead. Remnants of their fight were burned and melted into the very ground where pearl stood. Turning from the fortress her eyes fell upon her friend, her twin flame and his baby brother. A warm smile wrapped itself onto her face as her blood boiled below her skin. 

Get to the water to cool off. The velvety voice of her God called to her in her mind. She all but nodded and wandered to the water that was slowly melting from Aokiji’s attack. As she jumped into the water it bubbled and sizzled immediately. She had grown accustomed to the heat she radiated but sometimes it was always a surprise. 

“Pearl!” Ace’s voice called from behind her as she floated in the cold water. He knelt beside her and smiled widely, his baby brother standing behind him with an equally large and goofy smile. “I want to say thank you for coming in there like that. I wasn’t sure I would have made it out alive if it wasn’t for you.”

“I was just doing my job protecting my favorite brother!” Pearl responded as she folded her arms on the rapidly melting ice floor.

“I coulda had him!” Luffy rebutted half-heartedly. Pearl just laughed and got out of the water. She walked up to him and just patted his head. “I’m sure you would have, but I wanted to ensure your brother's safety first hand, I know you mean a lot to him and I’m sure the feelings are reciprocated in equal measure!”

Luffy laughed heartily. 

Turning to Ace, Pearl held her hands out in an opening gesture for a hug, Ace immediately complied and pulled his friend into a strong and warm embrace. He was safe, everyone was safe. 

“It’s time to go home.” Pearl muttered into his neck. Her worry slowly slipped into the oblivion of the outer banks.

But on that note now that the death pact’s been animated I’m left scratching my head wondering how he’d actually feel about it. Because while I think he’d be genuinely appalled, I’m trying to speculate on the full extent of his reaction and coming up a bit empty. full disclaimer, I have a killer headache but I’m gonna try to write what’s come to mind.

Luffy is very in-tune with his crewmates so, I don’t think the revelation that Zoro and Sanji have become loyal to the point of death would come as shock, exactly. We’ve seen his reaction to Zoro declaring that he intends to follow Luffy to the grave, essentially telling Kaido that if he kills Luffy he has GOT to kill him next. He was, all things considered, pretty chill about that. He got up and with a laugh told Zoro that sorry, but he’s got no intention of dying anytime soon. So he’s not unaware of the fact that he’s got lives in his hands. He’s just accepted the responsibility, backed by self-believe and self-confidence. Zoro’s allowed to make those dramatic vows because Luffy won’t let anything happen to either of them, and they are therefore of no consequence.

I think, then, that what might get to him would not be Zoro and Sanji having a death-related failsafe in case of disaster per se. What he wouldn’t like is that failsafe placing the full responsibility of their lives on each other. He is their Captain, so if they have an obstacle they don’t think they can overcome without extreme measures, they should to come to Luffy first. If they’re gonna make a death pact to make themselves feel better, they should do it with him, because then he can move heaven and earth to ensure it never actually comes to fruition. But as it stands, I don’t think he’d see death pact as something born from loyalty. Or chalk it up just another instance of Sanji and Zoro proving how far they’re willing to go to protect the crew. I can see him drawing the line at them vowing to hurt each other in secret, and even seeing the entire promise as a display of a lack of faith in their Captain, and in Luffy’s ability to do right by them when the time comes. Sanji’s worst fears may be coming to fruition, but that doesn’t give him and Zoro the right to decide when and who gets to die for the Strawhats.

Kozuki Oden

Coming from a family of stonemasons 💎 in Wan Country, Kozuki Oden was the Daimyō of the Kuri region. On the family level, he is the son of Kozuki Sukiyaki , the former Shogun of Wan Country who disowned him at the age of 18. Married to Amatsuki Toki, he is the father of two children, namely Kozuki Momonosuke and his little sister Kozuki Hiyori. Kozuki Oden  was the leader of the Nine Red Scabbards, a group of Samurai 🤺 serving the Kozuki family. He was also the commander of the second fleet of Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard and was part of the crew of the Lord of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger.  

Oden's appearance

Oden had long black hair and wore an imperial-style beard. He always had a thick mustache except when he was a member of the Pirate Roger Pirates. A large hat in the original style was enthroned on the top of his head as well as a kimono. 🥋 Rather tall, he appeared to exceed in height the vast majority of the pirates of Gol D. Roger's crew.

Oden personality

Being very daring, but also contemptuous and selfish, Oden committed many horrific and violent acts when he was still a teenager. In particular, he set fire to the establishment of the yakuza in revenge for the fact that he was banned from it. Also being a pervert, he kidnapped women to form a harem 👩🏿‍🤝‍👩🏼 in the mountains. Little worried about the consequences of his actions, he took part in a large number of brutal fights, such as against the yakuza or against the relatives of the women he kidnapped. Note that these women, being charmed by his attitude, finally decided to stay with him. Following his incarceration in the quarries for forced labor, Oden finally changed his mind. Become less egocentric, he sought to make the lives of others better. However, he did it the wrong way, which made his actions ever so shocking. This was particularly the case when he wanted to divert a river 🏞️ towards the city to save the inhabitants from a drought. Unfortunately, the city was inundated with it. Afterwards, it is noticed that Oden improved as he managed to bring peace to Kuri after he was exiled by his father,  Kozuki Sukiyaki . Another trait of his personality was his fearlessness and his immense need to sail the sea to the point of leaving illegally. When he was still young, this desire was more important to him than to prepare to take his father's place as Shogun. That's why he was part of the crew of Gol D. Roger . On his return, he made the decision to succeed his father in order to open the borders of the Land of Gold 🏅 and change the world. Moreover, he preferred to choose his own vassals as faithful samurai instead of others.

Daimyo skills

Having been a member of the Whitebeard  Pirates as the Commander of the Second Division and the Pirates Roger Pirates,  Kozuki Oden has been a formidable fighter. Thanks to his impressive physical strength, he was able to withstand an assault from Whitebeard with his Bisento. He was also able to slice the Mountain God with great ease 🌄 when others were unable to confront this enormous creature. In addition, during his first meeting with Gol D. Roger, the latter prevented his two most powerful pirates from facing Oden. Even though the real reason was that the Pirate Lord was excited to fight Oden, it also implies that Oden was very powerful in his eyes. Oden's other abilities are his stamina and unwavering tenacity. For a night and a whole day, he was notably able to face Kuri's most dangerous criminal, Ashura Doji, accompanied by his men and defeat them all. Another example of his endurance is that he was able to get pulled by a boat for several days just by being hung on a chain. Another of his exploits is to have been able to withstand more than an entire hour immersed in a pot of boiling water while at the same time carrying on his shoulders a large wooden plank where all his vassals were standing. Like Monkey D. Luffy , Gol D. Roger or his son Kozuki Momonosuke, Oden possesses the power to hear the voice 🗣️ of all things, this ability that allows whoever possesses it to understand creatures or even inanimate objects even s 'they don't speak the same language as him. In addition, thanks to this ability, Oden is able to read Poneglyphs. These are these mysterious blocks of stone scattered around the islands of the Grand Line and where we find inscribed in esoteric language the location of the Ancient Weapons as well as the location of the Laugh Tale where the legendary One Piece treasure is said to be hidden.   Right

Kozuki Oden has a great mastery of  Busoshoku no Haki or Haki of Weaponry , which is known as Ryuo in Wan Land. We saw him in particular during his confrontation with Whitebeard when he impregnated his sabers with Combative Fluid. It is important to note that Oden is the only one to date to have been able to control one of the 83 legendary Meito: Enma, while the latter can drain the Fluid from its user until it is depleted. . As criminal Ashura Doji revealed, Oden also possesses the Haoshoku no Haki or Haki of Kings . He used it in particular in chapter 963 of volume 96 of the One Piece manga during his conflict with Whitebeard. Adept at fighting with two sabers, Oden has developed his own style called the  Nitoryu of Oden which is based on the use of two blades at the same time. The Meito Enma known as "The Sword That Can Cut Hell" was his first saber. This is the only blade known to date to have injured Kaido at the Hundred Beasts. 🐲 Oden used another Meito as his second sword, the Ame no Habakiri or "Sword that can cut through the sky". Forged by Tenguyama Hitetsu, the latter is part of the Ô Wazamono, otherwise known as the 21 Great Blades.

To this day, we only know of five members of this family: Kozuki Sukiyaki, Oden's father and former Shogun of Wan Country, Kozuki Oden himself, his wife Toki and his two children Momonosuke and Hiyori. Oden cared deeply about his clan as when he sacrificed himself in order to allow his son Momonosuke, threatened by the pirates ���️ of Kaido, to escape. The Minks

Among the allies of Kozuki Oden and his family are the mighty Minks, this tribe of humanoids with animal characteristics. Indeed, Oden and his family have a very friendly, even almost fraternal, relationship with these Minks. Two of their members are even in the service of the Daimyō of Kuri, namely  Inuarashi the King of Dawn (a dog 🐶 Mink) and Nekomamushi the King of Twilight (a Mink cat) , while they were themselves both. Dukes of the Principality of Mokomo on the island of Zô. These two Minks followed Oden everywhere and were considered members of The Whitebeard Pirates as well as Gol D. Roger. Thanks to their unwavering loyalty to the Kozuki family, all Minks respected the Kozuki enormously to the point of even giving their lives for one of their other vassals. Indeed, Inuarashi was ready to sacrifice his whole Kingdom as well as his people in order to protect the ninja Raizo of the Mist, servant of the Kozuki and member of the Nine Red Scabbards. For his part, Nekomamushi sacrificed himself and lost an arm during the same event. Being rivals for a long time, these two Minks even agreed to make peace in order to satisfy Oden's son, Momonosuke. Kozuki Oden was once a member of the Roger Pirates. He was notably present when they disembarked at Laugh Tale and it was in their company that Oden learned the real story. It is also the members of this crew who nicknamed this island Laugh 😹 Tale, which means the story of those who laugh, because all of them laughed after they found the island as well as the pretty nest egg. that Joy Boy left there 800 years ago. There seems to be a very good understanding between Oden and the other pirates of Roger's crew. According to the latter, they were downright very lucky to have Oden among them. It turns out that Shanks the Red and Baggy the Clown had even offered to help him make his dream come true. The Whitebeard Crew

Prior to joining the Gol D. The 9 children of Oden, the Red Scabbards

The group called the Nine Red Fourreaux was formed informally 41 years ago. This was following the denial of Oden by his father the Shogun Kozuki Sukiyaki. These are 9 orphan children taken in by Oden and whom he made very powerful Samurai. Kinemon aka The Fire Fox and Denjiro (later  Kyoshiro the Sleepy 💤 on Oden's death)  were the first two to join Oden and follow him out of the Flower Capital after the events with the mountain god. Kinemon would later become the leader of the Nine Red Scabbards and he had stated that he was even willing to give his life for Oden. When theTaikomochi Shimotsuki Yasuie had asked Kinemon why he and the others obeyed Oden, he replied that Oden was the only person in the world to whom they all owed their lives. Kinemon and Denjiro had even gotten to the point of arguing over which one was Kuri's Daimyō favorite. Next are the others who were recruited after Oden rescued them throughout his journey across the country. First of all, Oden met Izou and Kikunojo, two orphaned brothers, in the Ringo region of Wan Land. Then it was in the Kibi region that he met Kurozumi Kanjuro who wanted to steal his horses 🐎 but the latter was defeated and joined Oden. Afterwards, it was the turn of an excellent ninja and ex O-Niwaban, Raizo de la Brume to follow him. After the clash and Oden's victory over Ashura Doji, the latter also joined him. It was after that, 39 years ago, that Oden had transformed Kuri into a land where it was nice to live. His father then put an end to his denial and named him Daimyō de Kuri. With this appointment, Oden made the decision to make samurai of his six recruits and formally form the Red Scabbard. Six years later, 3 other young people joined their ranks. These are the Minks Nekomamushi and Inuarashi as well as  Kawamatsu, the Fugu fishman . 🐠 You should know that these three young people found themselves stranded on Kuri beach. Villagers had mistreated them for not being human, but Oden saved them, which is why they had come to his service and joined the Red Scabbards. We can also talk about Izô recruited also 39 years ago and who remained at least 9 years in the service of Oden. However, as the group is known today as the Nine Fourreaux Rouges, it can be deduced that Izô was never part of it.

Oden's greatest enemy, Kaido

Kozuki Oden and Kaido of the Hundred Beasts were enemies. Indeed, the Yonkô had allied with Kurozumi Orochi to bring him military support when the latter had seized the status of Shogun in Wano during Oden's absence. It happened 28 years ago with the help of Kurozumi Higurashi aka The Old Woman . 👵🏼 Upon his return 25 years ago, Oden discovered the changes in the country and learned that the Emperor had wanted to remove his children Momonosuke and Hiyori. Seeing that his wife Toki was injured in the thigh by an arrow while protecting her children, Oden went into a mad rage and rushed to the castle to chastise those responsible. Unfortunately, he came up against the very solid barriers of  Bari Bari no Mi,, d'Orochi. It was at this point that Oden was forced to make a deal with Orochi and Kaido in order to protect the people of Wano. Indeed, Oden had to dance 🕺🏼 almost naked in the streets of the Capitale Fleurie every week for 5 years if he did not want to see 100 people die every day. At the same time, even if he lost all credibility in front of his people, he also wanted to avoid a war against the Hundred Beast Pirates.which would have caused several thousand deaths among the inhabitants. In return, Kaido promised to provide him with a ship that he could use to leave Wano with his family and his vassals. However, once the 5 years had passed, Emperor Kaido broke his promise. And when he killed 16 of Flower Hyogoro's subordinates as well as his wife because of his rebellion, Oden got angry and confronted him. During their clash, Kaido was scarred for life with a scar inflicted by Oden. Unfortunately, the latter lost the fight due to a cunning of Kurozumi Higurashi. The latter had pretended to be her son Momonosuke taken hostage thanks to his Devil Fruit Mane Mane no Mi (Travesti-Fruit) . Having been distracted, Oden could not avoid Kaido's K anabo ⛏️ blow. Angry with the Old Woman for interfering in their confrontation, Kaido killed her. Even though he had won the fight, the Yonko had respect for Oden and he decided he would perform it himself so that he would be remembered for a long time. And the choice was the killing by scalding in a huge pot.

Story

Kozuki Oden's story begins with his birth, 👩🏼‍🍼 in the Capital of Flowers, 59 years before One Piece's main narrative. He started his escapades at an early age and they were numerous. Here is a small enumeration: - When he was still less than a year old, he managed to throw his nanny with a single punch. - At the age of two, he managed to get his hands on two fleeing rabbits. - At the age of 4, he terraced a bear 🧸 thanks to a rock - At 6 years old when he entered the pleasure district to indulge in games of chance while stoning the family fortune. - He was only 8 years old when he started drinking and bathing 🛀🏼 with the Yakuza in their establishments when it was forbidden to enter without being Yakuza. He was then banned from entering these establishments the following year. - At the age of 10, wanting revenge on the Yakuza, he burned down one of their establishments and faced them in a fight. He was then arrested for assault and battery. - It was after his confinement in a quarry to cut stones that Oden changed his attitude. He now wanted to help others once he had served his sentence, but these acts unfortunately turned out to be awkward. When he was 14 years old when a terrible drought was raging in the country, he made the decision to divert the course of a river so that it reached the capital and saved the people. Unfortunately, his action had terrible consequences since it caused huge floods. Then charged with this incident, he tried for the first time to flee by sea 🌊 but his attempt was unsuccessful. - At 15, he decided to take refuge in the mountains. Unfortunately, his old quirks took over. He began to kidnap women in the capital at night to bring them to his temple in the mountains where he created a veritable harem. When the relatives of these women (husbands, lovers or family) tried to get them back by defying him, the consequence was a war, the Harem War to be precise. The latter only ended thanks to the intervention of the most influential and powerful Yakuza of the Land of the Wazas at the time:  Hyogoro of the flower . Kozuki Oden

Coming from a family of stonemasons 💎 in Wan Country, Kozuki Oden was the Daimyō of the Kuri region. On the family level, he is the son of Kozuki Sukiyaki , the former Shogun of Wan Country who disowned him at the age of 18. Married to Amatsuki Toki, he is the father of two children, namely Kozuki Momonosuke and his little sister Kozuki Hiyori. Kozuki Oden  was the leader of the Nine Red Scabbards, a group of Samurai 🤺 serving the Kozuki family. He was also the commander of the second fleet of Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard and was part of the crew of the Lord of the Pirates, Gol D. Roger.  

Oden's appearance

Oden had long black hair and wore an imperial-style beard. He always had a thick mustache except when he was a member of the Pirate Roger Pirates. A large hat in the original style was enthroned on the top of his head as well as a kimono. 🥋 Rather tall, he appeared to exceed in height the vast majority of the pirates of Gol D. Roger's crew.

Oden personality

Being very daring, but also contemptuous and selfish, Oden committed many horrific and violent acts when he was still a teenager. In particular, he set fire to the establishment of the yakuza in revenge for the fact that he was banned from it. Also being a pervert, he kidnapped women to form a harem 👩🏿‍🤝‍👩🏼 in the mountains. Little worried about the consequences of his actions, he took part in a large number of brutal fights, such as against the yakuza or against the relatives of the women he kidnapped. Note that these women, being charmed by his attitude, finally decided to stay with him.
