I'm not sure I ever mentioned this here, but in my canon my Tav's first druid mentor was an old spore druid living down in the sewers of Baldur's Gate. She's only known as "Nana" to the locals, and is a bit of a strange figure few choose to seek out unless they're in dire need of her extended knowledge of fungi and poisons.
It was my headcanon for a long time that she was a bit "strange" from spending her very long life inhaling spores and gods know what else, like that seems like something that would mess you up a bit. But then there's some banter dialogue in-game that confirms this, so uuh that's canon now I guess! (see banter under cut)
But then @ottobooty asked me if Jay, who spent a lot of time around Nana in his youth, had been affected by the spores somehow, and that's honestly such a good question. Yeah, probably? Maybe his short term memory is a bit poor, and he has gotten into the habit of writing everything down as soon as he can before he forgets? Or the spores fucked up his lungs, and he developed breathing problems similar to asthma? Most of the effects should have dissipated when he stopped seeing Nana so much, but I imagine there are a few long-term effects that never really went away.
Gale: My, my. Well I'll say this for the bonecloaks: they know their mushrooms.
SH: Perhaps they should expand their horizons. Too much time spent obsessing over fungi seems to leave them a bit, well… like them.
Gale: Oh, a byproduct of their profession. Few can spend a lifetime inhaling fungal spores without turning out a bit… muddled between the years.
