Finished it. Final review is that it sucked

What started out as fun combat turned into a tedious repetitive slog by the end and I was relieved to be done

Literally never encountered so much stupid ass writing in a product meant for adults

also it is wild just how mean-spirited the entire thing felt towards previous fans of the games, towards previous characters and settings. I can handle a shitty product born out of love (see below) but a shitty product that thinks it's morally and artistically superior to everything it owes its existence to? Nope. Hard pass.

BG3:

Started playing immediately after I finished Veilguard and while I don't think it's fair to compare... my god it's so much better. Having dialogue options that actually change and affect the game? Having to use your brain to think about how your words are going to be received so you don't fuck everything up? I feel like this isn't too much to ask for a RPG

Re: my complaint above about how Veilguard felt spiteful towards the DA series as a whole, I know Engage was a swing and a miss for most of FE fandom but the key difference for me is that you can just tell the FE devs love their series and my emotional ass over here is crying over Marth saying "as long as you remember us, we'll be here." I just think that's a nice concept to honor where they've come from and specifically how those old games are meaningful to people. I'm not even one of them, I just got into this stuff last year, but mannnnn
