Guess who's excited to get their ballot in the mail tomorrow? Me! So I slapped together a quick comic, as well as a map based off of this and this. A list of when same day registration is available is at the bottom of this article.

But also: wow, early voting stuff is so confusing! For example, I get my ballot in the mail tomorrow, and I can immediately mail it back. But if I want to drop it off in person, I need to either go to a special ballot drop box by city hall, or wait for early in-person voting sites to open, which isn't until Oct 22nd for my state.

Or like, early voting in Louisiana is apparently from Oct 16 to Oct 29th? And then there's a week of no voting, and then polls open again on Nov 5th? Or like how the only day you can register and then immediately vote is Oct 26th?

Anyway, best way to figure out the info for your area is to check your state and county's election website. I've found usvotefoundation.org to have clear fact sheets for each state (including ID requirements, polling location finders, as well as direct links to state election websites): https://www.usvotefoundation.org/state-voter-information . You can also jump to each state's election websites via usa.gov, or by searching directly, though some websites are more confusing than others.

So, I'm going to either make this joke more or less funny by explaining it, Colin Robinson-style:

Nandor isn't being an idiot by misspelling 'knowledge', he's spelling it phonetically.

Why? Well, it's probably not just that English is a horrendous abomination sent by god to punish us and an even worse trail for English learners either, but Persain is a (mostly) phonetic language!

This means each letter has a corresponding sound and words are phonetic in spelling (again, for the most part), unlike 'knowledge' in English where there are like...at least three?? unnecessary extra letters.

So, what's the phonetic spelling of 'knowledge' look like?

sheriffs are in charge of county jails, including conditions for those detained and the contractors they use. county jails are, in fact, the only carceral institutions run by an elected official. sheriffs are not accountable to a mayor or city council or county commissioner or the governor. the only thing they can do is zero out the sheriff's budget line item (county and city officials are elected). sheriffs have virtually no transparency or oversight mandated. sheriff departments are sometimes contracted to supervise local police offices. sheriffs set department policy. one of those policies is whether or not they cooperate with ICE (which is voluntary). sheriffs have no term limits in most states.

The thing that shook me the most about the last chapter to the point I haven't been able to talk about it until now is Atsushi's portrayal. It's so deeply devastating in the pure desperation he's depicted having. But what makes it so specifically heartbreaking is how his character is being destroyed to his core, to his main theme and distinctive traits. Atsushi wants to live; it's been there from the beginning. It's arguably what moves every of his actions. From the second page of chapter one, Atsushi has consistently been represented as a character desperate to prove he's worthy of living.

And now... He can't take it anymore. He's completely offering himself to Dostoyevsky with no care of what that means for his life. Dostoyevsky offers him five minutes to think about it, and Atsushi doesn't hesitate a second– that really emphasizes his apprehension, his sheer desperation. He's begging Dostoyevsky to kill him, because he can't keep going anymore. And it's devastating. It's heart-shattering to see Atsushi having gone though such a great grief, he's not himself anymore.

And the thing is, there's even more to that crushing - both psychologically and thematically - Atsushi's character. Dostoyevsky assigns Atsushi the responsibility of his friends' deaths due to his inability to protect them. Do you understand what that means for him? Atsushi, who had once come to the conclusion that he could gain his right to live by saving other people, is now facing his own failure to protect the people dearest to him. Of course he would find his life empty of any reason to keep existing after that.

Not to mention Atsushi's complicated relationship with his ability. After hating it for so long and wishing it'd disappear, with Dead Apple he seemed to finally have come to terms with it; if only, now again his ability is the cause of him to be separated from all the others, the cause of him being left alone which is what Atsushi fears the most. In all honestly, the true miracle of this chapter was Atsushi being able to smile at the end of it. It's very moving to see Akutagawa - although he doesn't remember him, although he doesn't know who he is - giving him hope again even after all of this.

Hey! I do my best to update as often as I can, and thank you so much for reading it! I appreciate the heck outta all the reblogs and comments and all that!

Updates might have to slow down a bit though, I do all the writing, drawing, coloring- the whole process is me! And doing as much as I've done for the last month has been a bit insane so I'm trying to have a better comic/life balance. That, and work balance. Comics are my passion but they unfortunately do not pay my mortgage!

Don't you worry though! It'll update soon, I'm working on coloring page 4 of the chapter, but YEAH I definitely have to slow down from my insane pace a bit.
