hualian omegaverse headcanons because i have brainworms (autism and a special interest in omegaverse)
(pt 2 here)
these are for A hc/Ω xl but i am a firm dynamic switcher bc they could both so easily be read as A/Ω
hc’s scent: as hong, he had his milky pup scent with a bitter undertone. as the soldier/wu ming, he smells like maple wood and incense. when he emerges from the kiln, he smells like burning leaves, with his original scent being more of an undertone and the smell of blood like…lingering on the back of the tongue.
xl’s scent: wildflowers, rose oil. when he ascends, his scent takes on what can only be described as the scent of heavenly official. like light and gold and power.
hc knew xl was his fated mate when they first met, back when he was 10
xl didn’t realize at the time because hong was so young; he still had his pup scent
xl did feel protective of hong though, hence the mommylian ‘you’re not; i know you’re not’ scene and his refusal to seal one of hong’s senses
xl didn’t realize during the war bc he was preoccupied and used spiritual power to dull his senses—too many agitated alphas in the army was distracting and he needed to lead them
the land of the tender sent xl into full heat; likewise tong’lu opening sent hc into full rut
calamitylian knew wu ming was his mate but he was. fucked up and rejected him
xl’s cursed shackles essentially sealed his scent—it was for his mate, and his mate is gone. when he ascends again, he smells like heavenly official but not much else
when hc enters his tong’lu ghost rut, he becomes agitated by the fact that xl can’t scent him properly :(

Yeah, exactly. I genuinely cannot tell if I'm witnessing a misce individual, or if I'm just seeing someone who thinks this is just "another omegaverse trope to be used in fictional works".
And yeah, I created the label in order to distinguish this aspect of us (misces) from the rest of the Omegaverse fans and creators. Obviously at the time when I created the term I was only thinking of canine-like and more traditionally presenting misce people, aka people that identified with the more traditional and classic interpretations of Omegaverse. Which, admittedly, was an oversight on my part. But it was a self-leveling issue, given others expanded on it in order to include different presentations. Such as:
- Miscefelis
- Miscelupus (technically this one I suggested also at the time of the coigning of the term),
- Misceanimalis
- Miscelapin (I don't know if I can call this one also deriving from my own suggestion in this post. Because it might have been in use before by other people).
And so on and so forth. And to be very clear, I have no issue with these expansions, at all.
But the influx of new labels and scents makes me confused, and I think the crux of this confusion is the term I keep seeing over and over again: Misceverse.
I've seen the suffix "verse" refer to things in the real world before such as "twitterverse". But even then, the connotation behind the usage was often one of sarcasm and mockery, exactly because the suffix made it sound like something less than real, something apart from reality. And this is its most common usage.
People use the suffix verse to refer to a universe (hence the name) that is different from this one. Its focus is other, and its inhabitants are also other. I can give a practical example:
The Veraverse fanfics, by infamous author George DeValier. It was called that because the fanfics were written around the framework of Vera Lynn's war songs.
I guess the exception to this would be when regarding cosmological terms such as "omniverse" or "multiverse", or even more recent virtual or augmented reality spaces, such as the "metaverse".
But even then, the connotation is still one of separation, one of otherness and departure from our current reality.
And within omegaverse itself there's the issue that we all call our made up worlds and collection of headcanons "our verse/my verse". Which I understand can be used to refer to one's interpretation of something, but it also refers to fictional ideas and concepts, yet again making it difficult to set apart which is which. It just adds to the confusion.
It makes me uncertain when I see that word. Because we aren't apart from reality, we still live in the same world we always lived in, only now as misce-aligned individuals. A main reason for the choice of this blog's name btw.
It makes me wonder if they're referring to a fictional construction. A world other than this one, where there are characters or people with these scents and identities, or if they're referring to the community.
If it's the former then I think there's a fundamental misunderstanding on their part on what Misce is and its intended usage (which, again, still bears no form of authority because I remain not being the Misce police) and I think a word other than "misce" would be more appropriate in order to avoid all this identification problem. If it's the later, then I still think the term is ill fitting, for the reasons I expressed previously.
And what worries me about it, is the potential confusion it might cause for those outside of the community or Omegaverse to begin with. If you're an outsider looking in, and saw the term "misceverse", wouldn't you assume it's a variant or even interchangeable term with Omegaverse itself, and thus, a fictional trope? I know I would. It's not unlikely at all, this whole confusion stems from this very connection. And if you are someone who thinks misce is applicable to only fictional things, then why wouldn't you tag the whole post or work with misce tags? They aren't at fault for doing so. Because the term (misceverse) is muddy and frankly misleading.
I think it should be altered or dropped in order to prevent the mix up and prevent potential misunderstanding. Because it could cause the term (misce and its variants) to become essentially useless.
I'll try to give some suggestions, granted y'all don't have to take any of the ones I suggest. Come up with something more to y'all's liking if you wish, but I do strongly advise to ultimarely drop misceverse.
Suggestions:
✦ [Referring to data or information on any misce-aligned identity]
- Miscelloge (misce + sylloge).
- Miscelectum/miscelegis/Miscelegere or whatever the correct form is (Misce + many forms of the word "lego").
- Misceinfo.
- Miscentitatis (Misce + Identitatis).
- Miscendicina (Misce + Indicina).
- Miscertyria (Misce + Martyria).
- Miscehood.
- Miscelegium (Not to be confused with legumes, but derived from the word florilegium, this one is my personal favourite due to this connection).
✦ [Referring to the community or collective of Misce-aligned identities]
- Miscemia (a little medical sounding, but it could work).
- Miscemedley.
- Miscemunity. (Misce + Community - I particularly like this one, I think it's cute)
- Misceglomerate.
- Miscekith (I made sure to not make this one "miscekin" as not to further confuse people, given the whole otherkin community).
- Misceciety (Misce + Society).
To finish it off, I'm not saying all of this in order to be mean, or to "gatekeep" or to bash or diminish or "call out" people for doing these things. I don't think they did anything wrong or with ill intent. But ultimately my concern is that we Misce people may lose our space here and other places, which mind you is already rather small and niche, due to potential confusion. Confusion that can be avoided and corrected by simply changing the word we use to refer to it. So no, I don't think it's just a matter of semantics. I think it's a matter of self-preservation.
Alas this is all my own opinion. I don't know if other Misce people would agree with me or not. And honestly this is an individual decision, and no one, including I, can tell you what you should or should not do.
I do, however, beg everyone in the misce community, or that has come in contact with it to think about it. It may seem small and insignificant to you, all this that I'm saying, but it's very important to other people. And I think that's enough reason to at least consider it.
I am an advocate for people doing whatever they want with a/b/o, but sometimes I can't tell if people are using the "misce" side of it for real people, or if they're using it for fictional things. And that is slightly uncomfortable...
Again you can do whatever you want. I'm not the Misce police. But the uncertainty at times is disconcerting.
If they're using it for real people, then that's that. But if they're using to refer to fictional people and things part of me wonders if they know about real misce people, and if they do, why would you use it for fictional things?
This isn't a bashing post of "how dare you!" or "we own the right to everything related to it, you can't have it!". It is a genuine inquiry.
Is there a reason? Is this just a mix up or misunderstanding? Am I unaware of something I should be aware of?
Like I could, 100% be missing the plot and there's an obvious reason for it all.
Waiting for clarification if anyone could help me with this one.

What type of characterisation do u like for fics? I do find that fic from back in the day is mostly 1 dimensional but I was curious what ur issues w it where?
I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to answer this but I’m gonna be real my opinions on stuff like this have led to me being labeled toxic to the point where people have literally implied they want me and people who share similar opinions with me to leave the fandom, so I’ve been kind of hesitant to answer something like this bashing some recent characterization again. So if you’re one of those people I’m sorry and you should probably stop reading now.
opinions under the cut with some lawlight characterization stuff I don’t like + some stuff I do like:
Honestly? I try and read at least the first chapter or so of every new lawlight fic in the tag and recently it’s been impossible for me to enjoy a lot of it because when I read it it just doesn’t feel like L and Light to me at all? Like it feels like someone at some point wrote a big fic with strong characterization and interesting characters, except they weren’t much like L and Light and they acted in ways L and Light wouldn’t act. And a lot of fics now are based off that same characterization, which in turn inspires fics with that characterization, rinse and repeat. And that’s just not enjoyable to me when I’m looking to read lawlight fanfiction.
Obviously old lawlight fanfiction wasn’t all 100% perfect and there were a lot of doozies in that mix too but it felt like there were more really solid multichapter fics that might have been messy and toxic in ways but they made sense with the canon characters. And fics that did have a happy ending and some fluff thrown in were still written using circumstances that could be believable, even if it took a long time or a slow burn to get there.
To answer your question more specifically, here’s some common tropes that feel out of character to me (and I’m not calling out any specific author or saying fics that do any of these things are poorly written because they’re not and we have a lot of talented and dedicated people here):
Either one of them changing their principles and switching sides within the first 20k words and without a LOT of persuading. IMO “we’re two sides of the same coin and not that different despite both being hugely stubborn” is shit I love, “actually I’ve sided with you secretly the whole time/your magical dick has cured me of disagreeing with you/I’m willing to sacrifice the principles I literally died for in canon easily because I want to be with you” is shit I don’t love.
We suddenly agree and work super well together as partners now that we’re in an AU and there’s no death note” doesn’t feel authentic to me because death note or no death note their entire outlook on the world is different. Light would think L’s methods are disgusting. L would think Light’s initial idealism is naive. Light believes mankind is inherently good and once you get rid of the bad that can shine, L…doesn’t seem to share that. That’s not to say they can never work together but the good shit is when it’s a long journey into understanding each other and where they’re coming from and slowly making compromises and falling in love.
L being a naive uwu tries his best baby who’s being taken advantage of by Light. Light being a misguided uwu baby who tries his best and is being taken advantage of the whole time by L. They’re more complex than that and they’re both bad people but they also both have good sides so any sort of simplification of the characters into one being a villain and one being a victim is uninteresting to me.
They shouldn’t work but somehow despite everything they do, because they’re alone and because despite disagreeing and being enemies by circumstance and by beliefs, they know without the other they’d never really be challenged or fulfilled. That’s neat. I like that. It’s messy. They’re drawn to each other even as they’re disgusted with each other.
It’s more interesting when they are their own conflict rather than the conflict solely coming from outside sources.
The 500000 fics where Light is a rebellious and progressive omega who actually secretly wants to be protected by L and feels grateful that they’ve found each other? don’t love that. I dislike omega fics in general even if there’s a couple I’ve thought were pretty alright so that doesn’t help either. It is kind of interesting that despite their differences this could be an in-universe reason to force them together. It just seems like omegafic is the lawlight default right now. Like even fics where the plot doesn’t revolve around omegaverse stuff is sometimes omegaverse and that’s ? hard for me to wrap my brain around? that’s not just a lawlight problem though that seems to be happening in a lot of fandoms
Similarly to point one, either of them being okay with losing like lol what.
yotsuba can be difficult to tackle because there’s so much going on there with the characters, but there’s so many interesting layers to explore and dive into that sometimes get ignored in favor of fluffy hijinks and that’s boring to me. from Light’s perspective L took everything from him and has made his life pretty miserable because of this whole Kira thing and catching the real Kira is the only real thing that could totally clear Light’s name and L just sort of….gives up, for a lot of it. mopes about and acts unmotivated and uninterested because Light isn’t Kira. that’s probably very frustrating for light! and fun wacky fluff or hijinks can happen, but I love when it happens in the “we got so distracted being the smartest people in the room we forgot we’re supposed to be enemies” way because that’s juicy to me
sometimes it’s the little things, too, that bother me. stuff that’ll happen and it’ll completely pull me out of the story. like L Lawliet made Naomi Misora destroy her whole damn computer after he slid into her DMs and you really think there’s any way in hell he’d have any sort of google home or siri or alexa? or casual social media, even under fake names? facebook knows everything. or light saying something or making a joke that i could never in a million years see him saying in canon because the author thought it would be funny or cute.
anytime Light is suddenly some kind of beacon of goodness champion of justice just because he didn’t find the death note. the death note didn’t make him a completely different person, he’s bitter and jaded and thinks some people would be better off dead even before getting the death note. self righteous yeah totally but actually righteous? nah man
or Light just being a fucking awful person who kidnaps and r*pes L because he lusts after him but it’s okay because somehow in the end they end up together ? i’ve seen that trope a few times and i know it existed in 2007 too i just avoided it like the plague then also.
I see a lot of AUs that are less “what would L and Light legitimately do if this was the situation or universe they were placed in” and more “i want to write this situation happening like this and i want to make it lawlight because that’s my main ship”
like, the characters that are being written are fine but if you want to write OCs right OCs. I know all of this seems really harsh which is why I put a warning about it at the beginning, and of course I know some of these problems were also prevalent between 2013-2017 and there’s tropes here that have been happening like this since the dawn of lawlight fanfiction, but since it’s happening now and now is when i’m frustrated by it now is what i’m complaining about, it could be the reason i go back to older fanfiction so much is because i had lower standards back then and it was easier for me to wade through the ones i hated to get to ones i liked and now it’s easy for me to find those again. who knows. Also I agree most fanfiction from 2007-2009 were pretty 1 dimensional.
And like, fuck me I guess but I actually like the canon characters and I joined the fandom to experience more of them and apparently that makes other people feel unsafe.
I’m not saying people aren’t allowed to express opinions that are different than me or that I Know Better Than Everyone Else or that I don’t like people posting their own headcanons or ideas or things they wish were different about the series, it’s just not my cup of tea and it’s a little frustrating that fanon is mostly all I get in fics now and that people are allowed to express opinions but only if those opinions are “people who stick too close to canon are elitist and should die and are sticks in the mud and need to leave the fandom to stop ruining things for everyone else” because like, we’re people too?
Anyway sorry this veered in a bit of a different direction and I hope I don’t lose followers over this because it’s sad to see people go but I’ve been blogging here for over 5 years and I’m not going to stop anytime soon. I also wrote most of this while having bad anxiety at like 3am last night so it’s all over the place and i’m probably going to think of like eight things in the shower later I forgot to mention because i’ve been thinking over this ask for like two weeks now.

So, what cause to Chuck to have a affair with Jasmine ?(BTW i love your blog)
(Thank you!!! ( ˃̣̣̥ω˂̣̣̥ )  That really means a lot to hear! Also, sorry I info-dumped. Whenever someone asks something that even tangentially relates to the omegaverse headcanons I keep hidden, I tend to go…overboard).
Tbh, Chuck having an affair with Jasmine has less to do with there being canon evidence to support the idea and way more to do with me deciding I needed more diverse family situations. They were just the unfortunate pair I chose. That being said, there’s a specific headcanon I have about how cheating would be viewed in an ABO setting that I wanted to explore with this pair, which sort of relates to what causes Chuck to cheat on his wife with Jasmine.
In this specific version of ABO, when someone goes into their heat or rut, it’s not quite to the point where they’re completely out of control (which is a thing in some interpretations of ABO).  While the urge to have sex is very strong and decision making is certainly impaired, the person is still conscious and can make choices.  It would be incorrect to say they have no free will, and you wouldn’t be able to use that as a defense for something you did during your heat/rut (well, you could try, but whether people would buy it is another story).
However, because an alpha exposed to an omega in heat is affected to the point that, they too, have impaired decision making, people are more willing to overlook people cheating in this type of situation. Essentially, it’s a ‘less bad’ form of cheating.  Not everyone has this viewpoint, and it’s arguable how accurate it is, but it’s still something I think would come up in an ABO setting.
Related to this, Chuck’s wife is a beta, while Chuck is an alpha.  As such, they can’t form a mate bond, which, if they could, would actually work towards keeping Chuck from being as strongly affected by an omega in heat.  One of the (debatable) benefits of an alpha/omega couple forming a mate-bond is it causes each member to not to be as affected by other people during their heat/rut.  When they do go into their heat or rut, instead of a more generalized lust for anyone, it’s all focused on their mate.  It has the effect of making them more clear-heading around other people, but it’s also more stressful to be separated from their mate.
As such, there’s an additional underlying bias in society about pairs that don’t fall into the alpha/omega dynamic.  Other types of couples aren’t actively discriminated against, but they are viewed as being prone to being less stable.  To some, an alpha/beta or omega/beta pair is viewed as the alpha or omega settling, and at the most extreme, viewed as being doomed to fail and the alpha/omega just waiting to find a better partner.  I’ve always seen Johto as the region that would have more conservative values and beliefs, so the above biases would be more common in that region over the others.
To actually answer your question though, Chuck and Jasmine’s short lived affair results from Jasmine’s heat hitting at an unfortunate time and the two just going for it.  While the two don’t know each other very well during the events of HGSS, over the years of working together as fellow Gym Leaders, they slowly develop a friendly relationship. Past seeing each other at conferences the Gym Leaders have to attend yearly, they do talk and occasionally meet up (always in Olivine though, never Cianwood).  Usually it’s because Chuck needs to come to the mainland to get something (and of course he’s going to check on his fellow Gym Leader while in the area, maybe she’ll even be up for some battling if she’s not busy), but sometimes he’ll bring her things from Cianwood.  The next time Jasmine finds herself in need of medicine from Cianwood, it turns out it’s easier to call up the Gym Leader there instead of waiting for a kind, 11 year old passerby to help you out.
In some ways, they do have a bit of an emotional affair going on before anything physical happens.  They both find themselves enjoying the others company more than they probably should.  While Jasmine clues in on their relationship being more than just friendly before Chuck does, she always tells herself nothing is going to happen because he’s married.  And even once Chuck acknowledges to himself that he’s attracted to Jasmine, he doesn’t plan to do anything, because he does love his wife (even if the two don’t spend that much time together, with him always being busy with the Gym or training).
So when Jasmine’s heat come early while Chuck is visiting her in Olivine, it’s actually Jasmine that suggests sleeping together.  Initially, once she realizes her heat is starting, she makes some hasty excuse and is ready to head home alone, but then stops herself.  Part of her is tired of being so shy and withdrawn all the time. She’s use to just going along with others and not pushing for what she wants. And really, she’s tired of being alone. So, not truly thinking Chuck will accept, she throws the invitation out there. Would you like to head over to my place with me?  And to her surprise, he accepts. They both know it’s a bad idea, but Jasmine’s heat makes for a good excuse to just give in.
They continue to see each other for a while after that, but once Jasmine realizes she’s pregnant (not from the first time they sleep together, it happens later), she calls the affair off.  She informs Chuck about her pregnancy and tells him to go back to his wife, she’ll be fine raising the kid on her own. But Chuck refuses to let her raise the kid by herself (plus, as unfortunate as the situation is, he’s not opposed to the idea of being a father. Once the dread of the situation lessens, he might maybe even be a bit excited).  Jasmine is very firm about them not being involved romantically anymore though, so the possibility of Chuck leaving his wife for Jasmine doesn’t come up.
Obviously, Chuck has to explain the situation to his wife, Tara. Unsurprisingly, she doesn’t take it very well. Really, the main reason she doesn’t leave him ties in with some of the headcanons I discussed above. From a certain viewpoint, some would say what Chuck did wasn’t all that surprising. And again, since Johto is the conservative regions (and Chuck’s wife seems like a traditional, conservative woman), she would be influenced more by these biases than other people might be.  Their marriage is extremely strained for some time after this, but the two do ultimately stay together, taking steps to try to repair their relationship.

general svsss omegaverse yapping ahead, with a note that this is all specific to the context of svsss and ofc there are different cultures which value different things etc etc:
first of all, the “real world” is the real world. there are no alphas, betas, or omegas. PIDW is a stallion novel about the alpha-est alpha, luo binghe, and most of his wives are omegas bc sexism or whatever
now. in PIDW, most humans are betas. maybe 1 in 20 people is either an alpha or an omega. (originally i went on a long tangent about the social evolution of the demographic division but i am Controlling Myself and trying to keep this short lmao)
alphas of any gender are seen as strong, powerful, capable leaders. omegas with single-purpose birth canals are seen as the ideal spouses and parents, able to more easily cope with pregnancy, carry multiples, and keep a home organized for the wellbeing of their clans/packs/families. while omegas with multi-purpose birth canals (i mean they get butt pregnant okay. they get butt pregnant) are also (generally) instinctually inclined toward keeping an environment suitable for pups, they tend to have far more difficulty becoming pregnant, and their pregnancies are almost always high-risk.
in the sense that the hegemonically prized/privileged/idealized familial makeup in the us is ‘father, mother, and a number of children,’ the hegemonically prized/privileged/idealized familial makeup in PIDW is ‘dominant alpha, chief omega, and their pups; other alphas/betas, their omegas, and their pups.’ clans/packs/families are far more communal. the cultivations sects, for example, are treated as large packs.
among demons, the scale is strongly tipped toward alphas and omegas. hierarchies are established very directly, with displays of power/strength/violence determining the explicit pecking order (as opposed to humans, who are generally indirect with implicit hierarchies). everyone knows who is above whom, and to rise in that order, a challenge must be issued and won.
this got too long and i haven’t even gotten to the point, which is. actually extremely on par for me, if you’ve seen my main blog (@omegaverse-anthropologist). i yap and yap abt background before i get to the point. so. i will be inflicting another svsss omegaverse post upon you shortly
